0:03:23 > 0:03:26It made my self-confidence go right down...

0:05:22 > 0:05:27That's vital because I don't know whether they think we're old...

0:05:32 > 0:05:37They're more likely to go to pupils their own age...

0:05:37 > 0:05:41..for advice when things go wrong.

0:07:13 > 0:07:19I was laughing about it because I thought, how pathetic is that?

0:07:19 > 0:07:24But it was a bit, you know, "Oh, my god."

0:07:24 > 0:07:29But things went too far and Kelsey told her mother.

0:07:29 > 0:07:31The bullying has stopped.

0:07:31 > 0:07:34By being part of the Cymer Ofal scheme...

0:07:34 > 0:07:37..she feels that she'll be able to empathise.

0:07:38 > 0:07:42You do feel as if you're on your own, so...

0:08:14 > 0:08:17It could happen to anyone, not just me.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21I still don't know who it was, to this day.

0:08:24 > 0:08:26You don't know who your friends are.

0:08:26 > 0:08:30Someone very close to you could be saying those things...

0:08:30 > 0:08:32..and you get really paranoid.

0:08:33 > 0:08:38She says there's a painful, public element to cyberbullying.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41There internet is everywhere you go.

0:08:46 > 0:08:50The world can see what people think about you...

0:08:50 > 0:08:54..and they could get ideas about you without knowing you.

0:10:04 > 0:10:08..we've got somebody being told to keep cutting themselves.

0:10:08 > 0:10:12"Maybe one day you'll kill yourself. Fingers crossed."

0:10:13 > 0:10:17Educating parents about the latest technology is vital...

0:10:17 > 0:10:19..according to the consultant.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23This is the first generation of young people...

0:10:23 > 0:10:28..that are growing up always on internet access on Smartphones...

0:10:28 > 0:10:33..laptops, games consoles, tablet PCs - all these portable devices...

0:10:33 > 0:10:38..where the old advice of keep your computer in your living room...

0:10:38 > 0:10:41..and you can see what's happening goes out the window.

0:10:41 > 0:10:45Parents have to understand that where kids have 24/7 access to...

0:10:45 > 0:10:49..the internet, bullies have 24/7 access to their children.

0:11:21 > 0:11:24..relating to online bullying.

0:11:24 > 0:11:28Unfortunately, I feel it's a matter of time before we see it in Wales.

0:11:34 > 0:11:38He's a familiar face as an international rugby referee.

0:11:38 > 0:11:43Almost 60,000 people follow him on his Twitter account.

0:11:43 > 0:11:48Although he acknowledges there are big advantages to the internet...

0:11:48 > 0:11:51..he's experienced the dark side as well.

0:11:51 > 0:11:54You can accept, in a way...

0:11:54 > 0:11:57..when somebody talks about a decision in a game...

0:11:57 > 0:12:00..or doesn't like the way you refereed.

0:12:00 > 0:12:04Fine, I can accept that, in a way...

0:12:04 > 0:12:07..although you don't want to hear that.

0:12:07 > 0:12:11But sometimes you get things which are more personal.

0:12:11 > 0:12:14Things about my sexuality.

0:12:14 > 0:12:18Things about being Welsh if they come from other countries.

0:12:18 > 0:12:23There are things that can be below the belt, I'd say.

0:12:24 > 0:12:27I can deal with it, not that I accept it...

0:12:27 > 0:12:30..because there are some things no-one should accept.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33But that's my nature as a referee.

0:12:33 > 0:12:37You have to deal with that side of things.

0:12:38 > 0:12:41Having been bullied at school...

0:12:41 > 0:12:44..he understands how damaging it can be.

0:12:44 > 0:12:47It's odd. You feel like it's your fault.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51It's not your fault at all that you're being bullied.

0:12:52 > 0:12:57The person who should feel guilty is the person bullying you.

0:12:57 > 0:13:01But you feel ashamed and that's why I think so many people...

0:13:01 > 0:13:03..find it difficult to talk about it.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07And he has advice for those suffering online.

0:13:08 > 0:13:13It's not your fault at all and it's wrong to say...

0:13:13 > 0:13:15..that you shouldn't...

0:13:15 > 0:13:18..go on there because you're being bullied.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21You're not doing anything wrong.

0:13:21 > 0:13:25But, if you're on these sites and you're being bullied...

0:13:25 > 0:13:27..come off those sites.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30Back at Ysgol y Cymer...

0:13:30 > 0:13:33..that's exactly what Lowri Mitchinson did.

0:13:33 > 0:13:36Mam spoke to me about it...

0:13:36 > 0:13:41..and said I'm far better off just getting rid of it.

0:13:41 > 0:13:44That's what I did and it never bothered me again.

0:13:44 > 0:13:49Some people can't because they want to know what people think of them.

0:13:49 > 0:13:52If one person does, everyone else might think that.

0:13:54 > 0:13:58After the break, the experience of one family from Anglesey...

0:13:58 > 0:14:01..at the hands of an anonymous bully.

0:14:02 > 0:14:06I was angry, upset, I started crying.

0:14:06 > 0:14:11I was basically running around frantic, not knowing what to do.

0:14:13 > 0:14:17What if it happens to someone who already feels depressed?

0:14:19 > 0:14:19.

0:14:23 > 0:14:25Subtitles

0:14:31 > 0:14:34Llannerch-y-medd, a rural village on Anglesey.

0:14:34 > 0:14:39But nowhere is free from the dark influence of the web.

0:14:39 > 0:14:45In August, Ashley and Shiree Webb were targeted by a troll...

0:14:45 > 0:14:47..which is an anonymous person...

0:14:48 > 0:14:52..who deliberately makes offensive remarks on websites to hurt people.

0:14:53 > 0:14:57Look at him. He's doing it again. You'd think he'd get a life.

0:14:57 > 0:14:58Unbelievable.

0:14:58 > 0:15:00Go away!

0:15:00 > 0:15:03Shiree Webb complained on the Facebook website...

0:15:03 > 0:15:06..about a photo of dead animals.

0:15:06 > 0:15:10This was picked up upon by someone using the fake name Jamie Card.

0:15:10 > 0:15:14He used a photo of the couple's son from the mother's Facebook page.

0:15:14 > 0:15:19He saw that and downloaded the photo to a computer.

0:15:19 > 0:15:24Then he posted it with some terrible comments.

0:15:25 > 0:15:29"Down's syndrome", "abused" and other nonsense.

0:15:29 > 0:15:34I was angry, upset, I started crying.

0:15:34 > 0:15:38I was basically running around frantic, not knowing what to do.

0:15:38 > 0:15:41But the troll didn't stop there.

0:15:41 > 0:15:45The couple say he hacked into Shiree Webb's account...

0:15:45 > 0:15:50..took some photos and posted them on other public pages...

0:15:50 > 0:15:52..and added offensive comments.

0:15:56 > 0:15:59"C***"

0:15:59 > 0:16:00Um.

0:16:01 > 0:16:03"A b****".

0:16:03 > 0:16:05That I'm "fat and ugly".

0:16:05 > 0:16:09Yeah, he seems to be able to get away with it.

0:16:10 > 0:16:11Good boy. Go!

0:16:13 > 0:16:18This isn't the first family targeted by troll 'Jamie Card'.

0:16:19 > 0:16:23There are other, similar reports from young mothers in England.

0:16:23 > 0:16:27Although they have contacted the police and Facebook...

0:16:27 > 0:16:30..the couple say there is little support.

0:16:30 > 0:16:33They are concerned about the effect on vulnerable youngsters.

0:16:34 > 0:16:40What if the same thing happens to someone who is depressed?

0:16:40 > 0:16:42It's just a small thing for us.

0:16:42 > 0:16:47It might have a greater impact for someone in a different situation.

0:16:49 > 0:16:54The Parc and Dare Theatre, Treorchy, three weeks ago.

0:16:54 > 0:16:59Olivia Edwards is involved in rehearsals.

0:16:59 > 0:17:02It's a show called Ton-y-pandemonium.

0:17:02 > 0:17:05It's a show by the National Theatre of Wales.

0:17:05 > 0:17:09Nine of us have been selected to take part in it.

0:17:10 > 0:17:14Last Christmas, bullies targeted her...

0:17:14 > 0:17:18..on the Ask.fm social website.

0:17:18 > 0:17:20When I was being bullied...

0:17:20 > 0:17:26..everything went down and I lost some of my confidence.

0:17:26 > 0:17:32Then, when I went back to acting, it made me feel more confident.

0:17:32 > 0:17:34It helps a lot.

0:17:35 > 0:17:39The social website has been severely criticised...

0:17:39 > 0:17:42..following Hannah Smith's death this summer.

0:17:42 > 0:17:45Like Hannah, Olivia received anonymous comments.

0:17:45 > 0:17:50I don't know how people can write such things.

0:17:50 > 0:17:52She is dead because of it.

0:17:58 > 0:18:01She's dead now...

0:18:01 > 0:18:05..and I feel very lucky that I'm still here.

0:18:05 > 0:18:08Ask.fm is a company from Latvia.

0:18:08 > 0:18:12Since the summer, they have introduced new security features.

0:18:12 > 0:18:16These include appointing a security officer...

0:18:16 > 0:18:19..creating of a category to draw attention to bullying...

0:18:20 > 0:18:24..and making a button to ignore anonymous questions more prominent.

0:18:25 > 0:18:29But some say the changes don't go far enough.

0:18:29 > 0:18:32Young people should never be exposed to that level...

0:18:32 > 0:18:34..of vitriol and nastiness.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38Ask.fm could apply measures...

0:18:38 > 0:18:40..that could filter that stuff at source...

0:18:41 > 0:18:44..to make sure it never appeared on anybody's screen.
