:00:37. > :00:46.Morning. As so often, hard Scottish born, Manchester -based Scottish

:00:47. > :00:53.laureate Carolann Duffy has caught a moment of national drama. She has

:00:54. > :00:59.written a love poem to Scotland. In Europe brave, bold, brilliant land,

:01:00. > :01:04.the thistle jags our hearts. Take these roses from our bloodied hands.

:01:05. > :01:09.It is a hymn to reconciliation and shared destiny. But this morning, is

:01:10. > :01:14.everybody happy to sing along? The Sunday papers are full of the

:01:15. > :01:20.fallout from the referendum campaign and a tediously confiscated

:01:21. > :01:27.referendum tangle. Picking through that, Iain McWhirter from the

:01:28. > :01:30.Glasgow Herald and Isabel Hardman from the Spectator. We are in

:01:31. > :01:35.Manchester today plonked halfway between Scotland and London for the

:01:36. > :01:40.Labour Party Conference. If there had been a Yes vote in Scotland,

:01:41. > :01:43.this would have caused such an earthquake, the Conference might

:01:44. > :01:47.have been cancelled altogether. It still casts a shadow over Ed

:01:48. > :01:50.Miliband's last great showcase before the general election. He

:01:51. > :01:55.hopes to get us all talking about Labour's policies, house-building

:01:56. > :02:03.and the minimum wage. But the Furia 1.5 million Scots cannot be brushed

:02:04. > :02:07.aside. -- the Furia of. We are going to be talking about future politics,

:02:08. > :02:13.a parliament for England, perhaps, and his own future. Has he found the

:02:14. > :02:17.substance to win power next year? Also, bruised and battle scarred he

:02:18. > :02:22.may be, but Alistair Darling is still passionately engaged in this

:02:23. > :02:25.debate. This morning he issues a blistering warning to the unionist

:02:26. > :02:31.parties. The agreement reached by the three parties is non-negotiable

:02:32. > :02:35.as far as I'm concerned. It has been promised, it has got to be

:02:36. > :02:40.delivered, and anybody who did -- welshes on that will pay a heavy

:02:41. > :02:45.price for years to come. Will be talking to that fine and beautiful

:02:46. > :02:48.actress, Thompson, who will tell us about her trip to the Arctic with

:02:49. > :02:53.Greenpeace and why she is making a return to the London stage at 25

:02:54. > :02:57.years. First, the news. Good morning. The

:02:58. > :03:01.wife of British hostage Alan Henning has made a public appeal to his

:03:02. > :03:06.captors. In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Barbara

:03:07. > :03:11.Henningsen said her husband is a peaceful man. She implores Islamic

:03:12. > :03:19.State to release him. Mr Henning is being held by extremist in Syria.

:03:20. > :03:24.A peaceful and selfless man. Barbara Henning says her husband travelled

:03:25. > :03:29.to Syria from Manchester to help people. He was on a convoy with his

:03:30. > :03:31.Muslim colleagues, delivering food and water to those in need.

:03:32. > :03:58.She says:: It was a week ago when Mr Henning's

:03:59. > :04:03.captors posted a video of him online in which they threatened to kill

:04:04. > :04:08.him. It also showed the killing of another British hostage, David

:04:09. > :04:15.Haynes. I personally vouch for Alan Henning. Since then there have been

:04:16. > :04:21.many appeals from -- to the militants to free him. Yesterday

:04:22. > :04:27.three Muslim clerics said to kill him would not be Islamic State

:04:28. > :04:33.Barbara Henning says she prays that the people holding Alan will respond

:04:34. > :04:39.to her before it is too late. She implores them to see it in their

:04:40. > :04:42.hearts to release him. Downing Street has dismissed claims

:04:43. > :04:47.that Westminster leaders are reneging on a place to Scotland

:04:48. > :04:51.following the no vote in the Independence Referendum. There is

:04:52. > :04:55.continuing disagreement between the Conservative and Labour parties over

:04:56. > :04:58.how the process of devolution should be handled. Senior politicians from

:04:59. > :05:01.across Scotland will gather for a church service in Edinburgh this

:05:02. > :05:06.morning to put their differences behind them. Ed Miliband has pledged

:05:07. > :05:10.to raise the minimum wage to ?8 an hour by the end of the next

:05:11. > :05:15.Parliament if he wins power next year. Ahead of his party's final

:05:16. > :05:19.Conference before the general election, he is saying the increase.

:05:20. > :05:29.Ordinary workers being left behind. But some economists warn of risks.

:05:30. > :05:32.Turkey says around 66,000 Kurdish refugees from northern Syria have

:05:33. > :05:37.crossed the border since it was opened on Friday. The flow of

:05:38. > :05:41.refugees has been prompted by intense fighting between Islamic

:05:42. > :05:54.State militants and Kurdish forces. Islamic State has captured more than

:05:55. > :05:56.20 refugees. The body of a British woman missing since a hurricane

:05:57. > :06:03.struck the Mexican coast last week and has been found. Simone Wood from

:06:04. > :06:08.London and Paul Whitehouse from Wolverhampton are thought to have

:06:09. > :06:14.been sailing when the hurricane hit. The Foreign Office has confirmed one

:06:15. > :06:16.Briton was killed in the storm. Mr Whitehouse is still reported

:06:17. > :06:24.missing. I will be back with the headlines just before ten o'clock.

:06:25. > :06:31.Back to Andrew. And so to the newspapers, as usual, and the news

:06:32. > :06:40.that Labour will raise the minimum wage to ?8 an hour. The Observer and

:06:41. > :06:49.the Sunday Mirror both carry that story. Mr Miliband saying that life

:06:50. > :06:53.is grindingly hard for too many people. However, the Scottish debate

:06:54. > :06:58.will dominate today and for many days more. The mail on Sunday has an

:06:59. > :07:03.interview with the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister warns Ed

:07:04. > :07:08.Miliband, do not sell out England. Chris Grayling is all over the front

:07:09. > :07:16.of the Daily Telegraph -- the Sunday Telegraph. He tells Scots to get off

:07:17. > :07:18.his lawn. The Sunday Times has a story about right of centre

:07:19. > :07:25.Conservatives wanting Ning this Parliament right now. Scottish MPs

:07:26. > :07:28.should be stopped from voting on any English only matters right now,

:07:29. > :07:34.according to the paper. Iain McWhirter and villas -- Isabel

:07:35. > :07:38.Hardman join me. David Cameron is trying to make life as difficult as

:07:39. > :07:41.possible for the Labour Party by writing in the mail on Sunday that

:07:42. > :07:48.they must explain why they are opposing English votes for English

:07:49. > :07:52.laws. It is a bit of a hand grenade? Exactly. It is difficult to find a

:07:53. > :07:59.great deal of coverage of the Labour Conference because they are still

:08:00. > :08:04.picking over Scotland and challenging Labour. Labour are more

:08:05. > :08:10.interested in more devolution to English cities. It is very difficult

:08:11. > :08:17.for them to justify their position in any terms other than political

:08:18. > :08:21.self-interest. I do not remember on that famous front-page prominence in

:08:22. > :08:25.the daily record that you get all of these new powers as long as we get

:08:26. > :08:33.devolution for England at the same time? Exactly. The Sunday Herald is

:08:34. > :08:38.suggesting that both Alistair Darling and Gordon Brown, who has

:08:39. > :08:43.been stomping around Scotland like an old Testament prophet, he has

:08:44. > :08:49.been calling himself the keeper of the promise that there will be devo

:08:50. > :08:54.max, or substantial more powers devolved to the Scottish

:08:55. > :08:57.Parliament... There is supposed to be a draft bill by January. This has

:08:58. > :09:10.been exploded by David Cameron, linking this now to English laws. It

:09:11. > :09:14.is hard to see how Gordon Brown can actually force the Prime Minister to

:09:15. > :09:21.commit to this pledge? Exactly, he cannot. That is a very serious

:09:22. > :09:26.problem for Labour and all of the political parties in Scotland. The

:09:27. > :09:30.SNP has ruled out any further constitutional questions for at

:09:31. > :09:33.least the next generation. What is curious is that this debate has
