:00:25. > :00:29.Good morning and welcome to the City of London. A glorious morning

:00:29. > :00:34.it is. I am surrounded by smiling people who have gathered here to

:00:34. > :00:38.watch one of the greatest parades in the British calendar. Obviously,

:00:38. > :00:41.the financial tpwuegss of the world have rarely been out of the

:00:41. > :00:44.headlines, but today a chance for the City of London to relax, to

:00:44. > :00:48.show itself off, to wave the flaggings and to celebrate the

:00:48. > :00:53.arrival of the new Lord Mayor. This is the Lord Mayor's Show, over,000

:00:53. > :00:57.people are to take part in a parade coming up here, in fronts of

:00:57. > :01:02.Mansion House, at the centre of it all, is the new Lord Mayor, David

:01:02. > :01:07.Wootton. You will see spectacular floats. If you are wandered why

:01:07. > :01:12.they are called floats, well, up until 155 years ago, the parade

:01:12. > :01:16.would take place on the river. As a rower, wootwoot with the was keen

:01:16. > :01:21.to take it back to the water. -- David Wootton was keen to take

:01:22. > :01:25.it back to the river. Earlier this morning he joined the Royalkm barge,

:01:25. > :01:31.Golden Jubilee Year to take it along the Thames.

:01:31. > :01:39.On arrival at HMS President, he was given a special salute.

:01:39. > :01:43.He was allowed to enjoy a tot of rum! He then board the more

:01:43. > :01:48.familiar gold Stagecoach. Shortly he is arriving here, up to the

:01:48. > :01:52.Mansion House, that is to be his home for the next 12 months, on the

:01:52. > :01:56.corner of the balcony, we find Paul Dickenson.

:01:56. > :01:59.Good morning everybody. I have the best seat in the house here on

:01:59. > :02:05.Mansion House. The parade is to pass in front of us. They are

:02:05. > :02:10.lining the streets here in terms of the crowd. All of the way up to the

:02:10. > :02:15.Royal Courts of Justice, where David Wootton sways his oath of

:02:15. > :02:19.allegiance to the sovereign in a ceremony dating back 800 years.

:02:19. > :02:23.Below me is the Guard of Honour, formed by the Reserve City of

:02:24. > :02:29.London. Taking part in a special medal presentation in a while.

:02:29. > :02:39.Alongside them is the Band of the Royal Marines Collingwood. So all

:02:39. > :02:43.are ready and waiting. The scene is set for the arrival of the new Lord

:02:43. > :02:50.Mayor, David Wootton, but how did he arrive from the streets of

:02:50. > :02:55.Bradford to become a leading city lawyer? It is not a sudden leap

:02:55. > :02:59.from the streets of Bradford to the office of Lord Mayor. Everywhere, I

:02:59. > :03:04.have been, school, university, it has been a place of encouraging you

:03:04. > :03:07.to move on. I was encouraged to apply for

:03:07. > :03:10.Cambridge. At Cambridge most people are getting jobs in London, but

:03:10. > :03:16.again, that was a place of aspiration.

:03:16. > :03:22.Then once I got here, the message I was given was it was up to you.

:03:22. > :03:26.Here we are on one of the terraces here at the law firm which I am a

:03:26. > :03:32.partner, from which you can see a magnificent view of the city and

:03:32. > :03:37.what it does. Here is EC2, the banks, the asset

:03:37. > :03:44.and fund investments, where your pension and mine is looked after.

:03:44. > :03:53.You have to look at the office of the Lord Mayor as the ambassador

:03:53. > :03:57.for the City Information Services, and given where we are, I think

:03:57. > :04:00.that the most important thing is to emphasise the connection, as

:04:00. > :04:04.opposed to the disconnection between the city and the rest of

:04:04. > :04:08.the community. We need to look and project our

:04:08. > :04:13.message about the good things that the business side of the city does

:04:13. > :04:18.and making sure that there are not bad things that the business side

:04:18. > :04:26.of the city does. Over here is the heart of the city.

:04:26. > :04:31.The area of London that is being less advantage. Further over is

:04:31. > :04:36.Bethnal Greenkm technology College. The students and staff from here

:04:36. > :04:40.are combining the local artists to design a float for the Lord Mayor

:04:40. > :04:47.Show. My old grammar school is having a

:04:47. > :04:51.float. Flets from welcome Yorkshire that covers the -- floats from

:04:51. > :04:56.Welcome to Yorkshire and a steam bus. I will spend most of my

:04:56. > :05:01.journey in the coach with my head out of the window, waving at the

:05:01. > :05:09.corrodes, but I have been told that it rocks in the American of a ship

:05:10. > :05:15.in a storm, so I'm going to take some sea sickness tablets! Well,

:05:15. > :05:20.David Wootton is arriving in the beautiful gold state coach soon.

:05:20. > :05:26.His escort today, the personal troops from the Blues and Royal

:05:26. > :05:30.Squadron. So, the atmosphere is absolutely

:05:30. > :05:34.building all of the time. He will be getting off the state

:05:34. > :05:39.coach in just a little while. He is coming up to the Mansion

:05:39. > :05:44.House, then he will be enjoying his own show in 2011.

:05:44. > :05:48.Well, let's get a word live now with David Wootton, the new Lord

:05:48. > :05:51.Mayor. You were worried about feeling sea sick, how is it there?

:05:52. > :05:55.It is OK so far. I promised everyone brilliant sunshine, that

:05:55. > :06:00.is what we have got. And a wonderful reception. Great

:06:00. > :06:04.corrodes? Yes. A great crowd. We started on the flotilla. It was

:06:04. > :06:12.wonderful, lots of colour. Very good luck. Enjoy the day. I

:06:12. > :06:17.may come and see you on the balcony. Thank you very much.

:06:17. > :06:22.Well, certainly David Wootton has had a long day already. An

:06:22. > :06:28.enjoyable day we all hope as well, but nothing will compare to being

:06:28. > :06:35.up here on the balcony and watching this brilliant show unfold.

:06:35. > :06:45.The state coach is over 250 years old now.

:06:45. > :06:46.

:06:46. > :06:56.It is being pulled by six extraordinary Shire horses.

:06:56. > :06:58.

:06:58. > :07:08.Just at the back of the coach, just out of shot, we can see Mr Montoya

:07:08. > :07:09.

:07:09. > :07:18.and plfplt Vardez -- and pl MrVardez.

:07:18. > :07:22.So, on dry land now, a great round of applause here today. David

:07:22. > :07:32.Wootton, the new Lord Mayor of London.

:07:32. > :07:32.

:07:32. > :07:39.Being met by the Pageantmaster. Being met also by the First Sea

:07:39. > :07:45.Lord, Admiral Mark Stennet. Presiding over his 20th show. More

:07:45. > :07:55.about that later on. They are going over to inspect his

:07:55. > :07:59.

:07:59. > :08:02.Guard of Honour. The First Sea Lord. The head of the

:08:02. > :08:08.Navy. He is here as they are celebrating

:08:08. > :08:15.the relationship between the Royal Marines ReSerbists who served in

:08:15. > :08:25.Afghanistan for a ten-year period now. They are being met by the

:08:25. > :08:25.

:08:26. > :08:30.commanding major or, Major WillHale. He is recently returned from

:08:30. > :08:39.Afghanistan. The first man to receive receive his medal this

:08:39. > :08:49.morning is marine Adams from Kent. All of the men are, of course,

:08:49. > :09:03.

:09:03. > :09:13.volunteers. All of the men have day Adams served with 42 Commando,

:09:13. > :09:17.

:09:17. > :09:22.Royal Marines. So, each of the Marines in the

:09:22. > :09:29.front rank are receiving their service medal.

:09:29. > :09:35.All of these guys have served on operations in Afghanistan. The Lord

:09:35. > :09:44.Mayor there. The First Sea Lord move on to

:09:44. > :09:48.Colour Sergeant Gammore from Reading. He normally works as a

:09:48. > :09:58.communications planner for a large media company. He too joined in

:09:58. > :10:33.

:10:33. > :10:40.Moving on next to Marine Danielkm holder.

:10:40. > :10:49.-- Holder. He works as a tree surgeon. He

:10:49. > :10:59.passed out in 2008. He served a six-month deployment

:10:59. > :11:00.

:11:00. > :11:04.with 40 Commando in sanguine in Afghanistan.

:11:04. > :11:09.Well, certainly as we watch the medal presentation, we are reminded

:11:09. > :11:13.how well all of the day's events are planned and excuted and the

:11:13. > :11:18.responsibility for the parade goes to one man. I mentioned him before,

:11:18. > :11:23.there he is in person, the Pageantmaster, Dominic Reid. It is

:11:23. > :11:29.his job to guide and to assist each Lord Mayor and to create this

:11:29. > :11:32.amazing three-mile long procession, we are minutes away from witnessing.

:11:32. > :11:42.This year Dominic Reid has a special reason to be very proud

:11:42. > :11:42.

:11:42. > :11:50.indeed. I started in 1971 when my father

:11:50. > :11:58.was asked to look at producing the show, his first show in 1972. As an

:11:58. > :12:04.11-year-old I came along and held his hand and had a good look around

:12:04. > :12:10.and saw what we thought about it. When my father died, unexpectedly,

:12:10. > :12:16.I was asked to carry on. I said "yes", here I am, 20 years

:12:16. > :12:21.later, still doing it. It is endlessly fascinating. You get to

:12:21. > :12:26.work with a lot of wonderful people from all sorts of walks of life.

:12:26. > :12:31.There have been fantastic floats. We push the boundaries in terms of

:12:31. > :12:37.what we deliver to the audience and the fun that is involved. Lord

:12:37. > :12:39.Mayor's Show is a platform for good citizenship. From the smallest

:12:39. > :12:46.child to the soldiers that come back to us from Afghanistan. They

:12:46. > :12:51.always have a story to tell. 2011 is my 20th year in the role. It is

:12:51. > :12:55.significant as the record for tenure of this job is held by my

:12:55. > :13:00.father with to. I am equalling that record. That is a nice thing to be

:13:00. > :13:05.able to do. I don't think it is given to many people to step into

:13:06. > :13:13.the shoes of their father and actually carry on doing pretty much

:13:13. > :13:18.exactly what they did. For me it has been an incredibly riching

:13:18. > :13:22.experience. I think there are few people here who remember my father

:13:22. > :13:29.as the Pageantmaster, I have sort of always been here now. It is a

:13:29. > :13:36.very curious feeling. Well, Dominic has lost his whis

:13:36. > :13:43.acres this year! He is still a proud man to be presiding over

:13:43. > :13:51.another Mayor's Show and equalling the record set by his father.

:13:51. > :14:01.We are still on the Royal Marine Reservist presentation.

:14:01. > :14:08.

:14:08. > :14:14.We are on to Lance Corp ral Harvey from Chingford.

:14:14. > :14:24.The first sea Sea Lord a very proud man indeed,

:14:24. > :14:27.

:14:27. > :14:35.accompanying David Wootton. Certainly when these men marched

:14:35. > :14:43.out into the middle of the great circus here, surrounded by the Bank

:14:43. > :14:50.of England, the Mansion House and the Royal Exchange, there was a

:14:51. > :15:00.huge round of applause. Everybody appreciated, appreciating what

:15:01. > :15:03.

:15:03. > :15:09.these guys have done. So Corporal Nigel Coleman.

:15:09. > :15:19.Joining back in 2000. He has just returned from Afghanistan.

:15:19. > :15:25.

:15:25. > :15:35.He served with the Yankee Company, On to call Paul Andrew from Bromley.

:15:35. > :15:38.

:15:38. > :15:48.He joined the Royal Marines way back in 1992. He joined the Royal

:15:48. > :16:01.

:16:01. > :16:11.Marines Reserve after his regular And finally on to call Paul Duncan

:16:11. > :16:31.

:16:31. > :16:35.Stuart. He works for the Ministry After this presentation, the new

:16:35. > :16:45.Lord Mayor will make his way up onto the balcony and then the

:16:45. > :16:46.

:16:46. > :16:49.parade will start in earnest. Some very proud men out there and I am

:16:49. > :16:59.sure the Lord Mayor himself feels very privileged to have made that

:16:59. > :17:07.

:17:07. > :17:15.Dominic Reid will escort the Lord Mayor up to his position on the

:17:15. > :17:23.balcony and then the Pageantmaster will move over to Princes Street,

:17:23. > :17:29.where the Irish and Welsh Guards will give the parade an absolutely

:17:29. > :17:33.fabulous start. So, with Dominic at casting an expert eye over

:17:33. > :17:38.proceedings, even after 20 years in the job, he does not leave anything

:17:38. > :17:43.to chance. If you have got a burning question for Dominic or the

:17:43. > :17:49.new Lord Mayor, we would love to hear from you. You can send in an

:17:49. > :17:54.email and we will get through as many as we can. Even if you want to

:17:54. > :18:04.wish somebody taking part in the parade lots of love. Here is our

:18:04. > :18:33.

:18:33. > :18:38.So as the new Lord Mayor goes on to the Mansion House balcony, the

:18:38. > :18:45.Irish Guards and Welsh Guards are waiting patiently underneath a

:18:45. > :18:55.giant blue banner that has been set up. As the signal is given for the

:18:55. > :19:20.

:19:20. > :19:29.parade to begin. The famous tricorn hat comes off,

:19:29. > :19:35.just about obscuring David Wootton! The Irish and Welsh Guards being

:19:35. > :19:41.followed on horseback by the Assistant Commissioner of City of

:19:41. > :19:51.London Police and the deputy commander, Frank Armstrong and

:19:51. > :19:55.

:19:55. > :20:00.Brigadier Matthew Lowe, who is riding Oscar. And continuing the

:20:00. > :20:03.theme of David Wootton's connection with Yorkshire and Bradford, the

:20:03. > :20:09.first time that Bradford Grammar School have ever appeared in the

:20:09. > :20:19.show. It is over 400 years old and celebrating 350 years of its Royal

:20:19. > :20:21.

:20:21. > :20:26.Charter. So that will give David Wootton a huge amount of pleasure.

:20:26. > :20:34.The Lord Mayor's appeal, one this year is Fit for the Future,

:20:34. > :20:41.inspired by London 2012 and his love of rowing. That's a very nice

:20:41. > :20:44.likeness of David Wootton! It has been inspired by 2012 and the Lord

:20:44. > :20:54.there is supporting charities that help and promote a healthier future

:20:54. > :21:00.for us all. He is also supporting the trauma centre at the Royal

:21:00. > :21:10.London Hospital, the Rowing Foundation, London youth rowing and

:21:10. > :21:17.

:21:17. > :21:19.the fields Trust. So, walking with the banners there, Allen & over a

:21:19. > :21:27.Bethnal Green technology College, which you heard David Wootton

:21:27. > :21:34.mention in that film we showed you. Bethnal Green technology College is

:21:34. > :21:42.one of the areas where David Wootton is supporting all of the

:21:42. > :21:46.youngsters. And the Langbourn Ward Club. That was established way back

:21:46. > :21:56.in 1890 and for the past six years, it has been led by the man who was

:21:56. > :21:59.

:21:59. > :22:03.known in those days as Alderman. He is now the new Lord Mayor of London.

:22:03. > :22:10.Already there's a fantastic atmosphere. I hope Clare Balding

:22:10. > :22:14.can hear any? I certainly can and I am now in the company of the

:22:14. > :22:22.Worshipful Company of Fletchers. We have for Paralympic Archer, Pippa

:22:22. > :22:26.Britain. How are you? If it is so exciting to be here. How important

:22:26. > :22:33.is it to what you do and working ahead to the Paralympics in London,

:22:33. > :22:38.how important is the support? brilliant. They have done so much

:22:38. > :22:48.of the sport and putting money into the sport. It is going ahead to

:22:48. > :22:52.2016 as well, so it is fabulous. And you will be here? I hope so.

:22:52. > :22:56.That is the Worshipful Company of Fletchers, who make bows and arrows

:22:56. > :23:01.and they used to make longbows. is hard to believe that this time

:23:01. > :23:06.next year, both the Olympics and Paralympic Games will be over. It

:23:06. > :23:15.will be a distant memory. We have certainly got a lot to look forward

:23:15. > :23:21.to. The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. And once again, the Society of

:23:21. > :23:31.Young Freemen. This is the mythical protector of the City of London. In

:23:31. > :23:34.

:23:34. > :23:40.the show for over 450 years. Their patron is always the new Lord Mayor.

:23:40. > :23:48.Looking absolutely magnificent once again. These are regular visitors

:23:48. > :23:58.to the Lord Mayor's Show. The Romford Drum and trumpet call. They

:23:58. > :24:08.

:24:08. > :24:12.are playing Sons Of Brave. Each year, an association of past

:24:12. > :24:19.masters and delivery companies is here. We have a record number

:24:19. > :24:25.taking part in this year's show. They are associations of

:24:25. > :24:28.professional people who do a huge amount for charity throughout the

:24:29. > :24:37.City of London. There's the first of them, or the Worshipful Company

:24:38. > :24:47.of Woolmen. Have we got any sheep on there? Yes, we have! I bet they

:24:48. > :24:48.

:24:48. > :24:58.are warm! The patron is the Royal Highness, -- His Royal Highness,

:24:58. > :25:08.the Princess of Wales. Somewhere on that flowed we have got somebody

:25:08. > :25:15.

:25:15. > :25:25.with giant knitting needles. -- on that float. That's Julian Wilson. -

:25:25. > :25:27.

:25:27. > :25:30.- Gillian Wilson. And they are being closely followed by the

:25:31. > :25:40.Worshipful Company of Lightmongers. They are one of the Modern Livery

:25:41. > :25:43.

:25:44. > :25:47.Companies. They aim to foster the art and science of lighting, and to

:25:47. > :25:57.encourage the invention and imagination of the use of light in

:25:57. > :25:58.

:25:58. > :26:08.education. There we have the clockmakers. They are a bit older

:26:08. > :26:22.

:26:22. > :26:27.There is actually a museum of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers

:26:27. > :26:37.situated at the Guildhall and it is one of the oldest and finest

:26:37. > :26:46.

:26:46. > :26:51.collections of clocks, watches and I am now alongside Nigel Colman,

:26:51. > :26:57.who received his operational medal from the Lord Mayor. How long were

:26:57. > :27:05.you in Afghanistan and what were your duties? I was there for 5, 6

:27:05. > :27:09.months and I was employed as the intelligence head, insisting

:27:09. > :27:14.counter-insurgency operations. special is it to be here today,

:27:14. > :27:18.receive your medal and have so many people around? It is lovely to be

:27:18. > :27:24.recognised for deployment and service. How long have you been in

:27:24. > :27:28.service? For 10 years. How long will you carry on doing it? A good

:27:28. > :27:38.few years yet. A few more adventures to be had!

:27:38. > :27:55.

:27:55. > :28:05.Congratulations to you and The band and the marching

:28:05. > :28:22.

:28:22. > :28:32.detachment of the Royal Air Force They have also got the RAF Search

:28:32. > :28:32.

:28:32. > :28:40.and Rescue helicopter squadron and the 600 Squadron is the oldest of

:28:40. > :28:48.the Auxiliary Squadron in the country, formed back in 1925, when

:28:48. > :28:58.Commander Michelle Crossman -- and Commander Michelle Crossman is

:28:58. > :29:07.

:29:07. > :29:13.They are now based at RAF Northolt and provide personnel across a wide

:29:13. > :29:21.range of specialisations to support headquarters, including

:29:22. > :29:30.intelligence, communications, operations and logistics. Commander

:29:30. > :29:34.Michelle Crossman. It is her last day as Officer Commanding. The

:29:34. > :29:42.Institute of Directors, the third time they have entered a float in

:29:42. > :29:48.the Lord Mayor's Show. It was established way back in 1903. And

:29:48. > :29:58.once again, the Yorkshire thing continues with this beautiful

:29:58. > :29:58.

:29:58. > :30:08.Leyland Tiger bus. Totally restored. She spent her youth touring between

:30:08. > :30:14.

:30:14. > :30:21.Whitby and Hull. She was made in A very proud moment for Yorkshire

:30:21. > :30:25.and a very proud moment for David Wootton, who hails from Bradford.

:30:25. > :30:31.And right behind the Yorkshire tiger, we find London's Air

:30:31. > :30:37.Ambulance. Steve Jones, you were on duty last night? Yes. I finished

:30:37. > :30:41.this morning. So straight here? How long have you been part of the

:30:41. > :30:50.service? For five years but I have been with the London Air Ambulance

:30:50. > :30:55.for 12 years. And it started in 1989? Yes. How important is it? Is

:30:55. > :31:02.seen as a critical service? Are yes. We cover a whole of London and we

:31:02. > :31:08.only have one team covering the whole of London. 24 hours. Very

:31:08. > :31:15.important. Today in the parade, a chance to show yourselves off and

:31:15. > :31:22.make people aware of what you do? Yes. It is great. It is lovely to

:31:22. > :31:32.meet people who are not hurt for a change! Exactly! Enjoy it. Thank

:31:32. > :31:34.

:31:34. > :31:41.Her name is Joan, she weighs eight tonnes. Doing a brilliant job of

:31:41. > :31:51.pulling the float along with the Worshipful Company of Paviors.

:31:51. > :31:55.

:31:55. > :32:04.86 years old is the steam roller. And John Prince and John Barnes and

:32:04. > :32:14.Michael are up there somewhere. All connected with the livery company.

:32:14. > :32:25.

:32:25. > :32:35.Somewhere around that float are the Paul Davis Jazz Band.

:32:35. > :32:41.MUSIC PLAYS Thomson Reuters, they are

:32:41. > :32:44.delivering information to the financial sector here in the City.

:32:44. > :32:49.They deliver information to all industries, in fact, in the heart

:32:49. > :32:55.of business here in the City of London.

:32:55. > :33:05.Their float signifys what they call the knowledge effect. It represents

:33:05. > :33:17.

:33:17. > :33:27.the global nation of their business. The Air Training Corps Band from

:33:27. > :33:41.

:33:41. > :33:47.London and Middlesex's Wings Air The 900 squadrons of Air Training

:33:47. > :33:57.Corps all across the UK. They have 40,000 members, aged between 13 and

:33:57. > :33:58.

:33:58. > :34:02.Now, here is a face, I am sure that you will recognise. Lloyd Grossman,

:34:02. > :34:05.here with Worshipful Company of Glaziers, why? Well, because of my

:34:05. > :34:09.long-standing interest in the historic environment I was very

:34:09. > :34:16.keen to get involved with the Worshipful Company of Glaziers.

:34:16. > :34:20.They do so much educational and charitable work in relation to the

:34:20. > :34:25.preservation and the study of stained glass and training young

:34:25. > :34:30.people. It is important to realise that the Lord Mayor's Show is not

:34:31. > :34:36.just about wearing funny cost uems or the City. It is about all of

:34:36. > :34:41.these great organisations who do such great things for the

:34:41. > :34:45.communities up and down the country. For you it is the connection with

:34:45. > :34:53.the Worshipful Company of Glaziers. In terms of the parade, have you

:34:53. > :34:56.been here before? I came to watch the show in 19 75 when I was a

:34:56. > :35:00.student and then about five years ago when my daughter was marching

:35:00. > :35:05.in it. Now you are in the centre of it?

:35:06. > :35:11.is aiz maizing to be participating in it, but it is great fun and very

:35:11. > :35:18.important. Thank you very much for talking

:35:18. > :35:28.with us, Lloyd Grossman. The Intelligence Corps going

:35:28. > :35:32.

:35:32. > :35:42.through the picture there. 3 Military Intelligence Battalion,

:35:42. > :35:43.

:35:43. > :35:53.all volunteers, of course. Another TA unit.

:35:53. > :35:59.The weather has been so kind to us today.

:35:59. > :36:03.Also students there from the Skinner's Academy. So yet another

:36:03. > :36:12.reference to the livery companies that date back, way, way back to

:36:12. > :36:22.the Middle Ages. The earliest reliable records date back to 1155.

:36:22. > :36:22.

:36:22. > :36:28.That was the Weaver's Company. We have the National Youth Marching

:36:28. > :36:33.Band going through our picture. There they are.

:36:33. > :36:38.It is coming down Princes Street, making a right-hand turn into

:36:38. > :36:44.Mansion House. Of course, to remind you that the

:36:44. > :36:50.parade continues all the way past St Paul's Cathedral where the new

:36:50. > :36:52.Lord Mayor and his wife are invited on to the steps much the famous

:36:52. > :37:00.landmark. They will be there for the blessing

:37:00. > :37:10.and then on to the Law Courts, where he will swear his allegiance

:37:10. > :37:13.

:37:13. > :37:18.to Queen and country. The marching band is made up from

:37:18. > :37:28.the Red Hill Corps of Drums from Surrey.

:37:28. > :37:34.

:37:34. > :37:39.There we have the Admiral Scaffold ing Group.

:37:39. > :37:43.Now, Chinese celebrations nearly always involve a lion. We have two

:37:43. > :37:51.here today at the Lord Mayor's Show. One here and one with Dominic Reid.

:37:51. > :37:55.They must be woken up. To be woken up they need eyes. Am I doing this?

:37:55. > :38:01.Put a dot here on the mirror and then on the right and the left eye

:38:01. > :38:07.and it will come to life. So, the mirror is to ward off evil

:38:07. > :38:17.spirits and the eye here in the middle and there on the left.

:38:17. > :38:17.

:38:17. > :38:22.OK, wake up, lion! Go on! Wow! This is going to join the Hong Kong

:38:22. > :38:31.Government float. The other one has woken up on the

:38:32. > :38:38.other side of the arch. Goodbye, lion! Thank you! It has

:38:38. > :38:41.always been a huge connection with the City of London and Hong Kong.

:38:41. > :38:46.They are both huge financial centres.

:38:46. > :38:52.I have seen Clare waking the dragons. The dragon, is, of course

:38:52. > :38:57.noisy. I think that they will be drowned out by the crowds here

:38:57. > :39:06.today. They are here in their thousands. They are standing around

:39:06. > :39:16.Mansion House, almost ten deep. The guests at Mansion House were

:39:16. > :39:19.

:39:19. > :39:29.treated to seeing the Wishing Tree being driven past a few moments ago.

:39:29. > :39:29.

:39:29. > :39:39.There is Fireman Sam. He started on our screens back in

:39:39. > :39:45.1987. He is celebrating his 20th birth day this year.

:39:45. > :39:54.Well, there is another big connection between the Lord Mayor

:39:54. > :39:56.and the City of Stoke-on-Trent. The two serving Lord Mayors

:39:57. > :40:06.enjoying the parade here this morning.

:40:07. > :40:08.

:40:08. > :40:14.The Lord Mayor of Stoke and the Lord Mayor of London on the balcony.

:40:14. > :40:17.Terry Follows is being waved to there by David Wootton.

:40:17. > :40:21.David Wootton invited Stoke-on- Trent because that is where his

:40:21. > :40:31.father came from. There he is.

:40:31. > :40:35.

:40:35. > :40:42.He must be a very proud man today. Stoke-on-Trent celebrating the fact

:40:42. > :40:47.that they can boost such people as Robbie Williams, a great sing frer

:40:47. > :40:51.Stoke-on-Trent. Sir Stanley Matthews, where the iconic

:40:51. > :41:01.aeroplane, the Spitfire was designed. They are looking forward

:41:01. > :41:10.

:41:10. > :41:16.to seeing the Olympic Torch coming their way this year. That float is

:41:16. > :41:26.celebrating Incredible India. Showing the art, culture of the

:41:26. > :41:28.

:41:28. > :41:34.southern Indian state of Kerala. And this is Elizabeth. The Whitby

:41:34. > :41:39.Steam Bus. Vernon is drying, his wife is with

:41:39. > :41:44.me now. Where have you been with her? We have steamed her all the

:41:44. > :41:49.way from Whitby. It has taken a week. My word. How dot public react

:41:49. > :41:55.to her? Elizabeth makes lots of friends. She brings a smile to

:41:55. > :42:01.everyone's face. There are lots of waves and smiles.

:42:01. > :42:06.How fast does she go? Her top speed is about 50 miles an hour, but she

:42:06. > :42:10.does about 35. We are celebrating Elizabeth's 80

:42:11. > :42:14.birthday. You also took her, I know that this

:42:14. > :42:19.sounds eccentric, but you took Elizabeth to see some of the sights

:42:19. > :42:23.of London? We did indeed. We wanted her to know where she was. We were

:42:24. > :42:28.all around the city centre it caused a bit of chaos with the

:42:28. > :42:31.traffic, but it made a few people happy as well.

:42:31. > :42:37.It makes perfect sense. Thank you very much.

:42:37. > :42:40.You would get the shock of your life if you were out for a gentle

:42:40. > :42:46.stroll and Elizabeth came steaming past you.

:42:46. > :42:56.Believe it or not, Elizabeth, the Whitby Steam Bus has got over 1200

:42:56. > :42:58.

:42:58. > :43:03.friends on Facebook. The B Company 4 Para. The Parachute

:43:03. > :43:08.Regiment formed in 1940 after Winston Churchill declared the need

:43:08. > :43:14.of at least 5,000 paratroopers. It is a lot of history being paraded

:43:14. > :43:19.here today. 25 members of the company have been

:43:20. > :43:29.deployed over the last year to Afghanistan.

:43:29. > :43:39.They are in support of both 2 and 3 Para on operation.

:43:39. > :43:40.

:43:40. > :43:50.There is the F & G Companies 7 Rifles.

:43:50. > :43:57.

:43:57. > :44:03.And 254 ( City of London) Field Hospital. They are joined on the

:44:03. > :44:07.float by Captain Nolan, he re received a Queen's common

:44:07. > :44:14.deportation for valuable services of his work on infection control in

:44:14. > :44:24.the field. He now works with the Olympic Authorities in preparation

:44:24. > :44:51.

:44:51. > :44:58.The 135 Indepnedent Geographic Now among the crowds watching the

:44:59. > :45:06.Lord Mayor's Show we have lots and lots of children, but who is this?

:45:06. > :45:10.Sasha! What is she? It's a doggie! Of course, silly me! Is that your

:45:10. > :45:15.lucky mascot? Yes. Who is this? Sooty.

:45:15. > :45:22.What have you liked today? I liked all of it.

:45:22. > :45:32.I like the dancing. There is a bit of a dance coming. How old are you?

:45:32. > :45:32.

:45:32. > :45:38.Five! Five! Where are you from? UpDp Minster.

:45:38. > :45:45.Lovely to see you. I bet when they got out of bed this morning they

:45:45. > :45:49.never dreamt they would be interviewed by Clare Clare Clare --

:45:49. > :45:59.by Clare Balding on television this morning.

:45:59. > :46:18.

:46:18. > :46:25.The 151 Transport Regiment. And just coming around the corner,

:46:25. > :46:34.regular visitors to the Lord Mayor's Show. The 1st Hook Scout

:46:34. > :46:43.and Guide Band player in the Royal salute as they pass financial house.

:46:43. > :46:49.-- Mansion House. And the Guild of the Royal Hospital of St

:46:49. > :46:59.Bartholomew. And of course, the Lord there is supporting them with

:46:59. > :47:00.

:47:00. > :47:08.his appeal in 2012. -- the Lord Mayor. St Barts is a world leading

:47:08. > :47:18.cancer centre. Like so many other institutions, not solely reliant,

:47:18. > :47:38.

:47:38. > :47:42.but partly reliant on a brilliant The Worshipful Company of Loriners.

:47:42. > :47:48.If you have just joined us and you are wondering what is going on, we

:47:48. > :47:56.are just about halfway through the Lord Mayor's Show. There he is,

:47:56. > :48:06.David Wootton, just waving to the passing parade. And celebrating his

:48:06. > :48:06.

:48:06. > :48:15.election to the status of Lord Mayor of London. This certainly is

:48:15. > :48:18.a historic day and one which will take in all over the world. He is

:48:18. > :48:28.basically singing the praises of the City of London and everything

:48:28. > :48:30.

:48:30. > :48:40.that it has to offer. The Square Mile Salute. An annual banquet held

:48:40. > :48:42.

:48:42. > :48:47.at the Guildhall that raises funds for wounded troops. Some of those

:48:47. > :48:55.funds will go towards the charities which I am sure many will be aware

:48:55. > :49:02.of by now. Help the heroes, The Royal British Legion among spend. -

:49:02. > :49:06.- among for them. And the Automobile Association, another

:49:07. > :49:15.group of people who come to the Lord Mayor's Show on a regular

:49:15. > :49:25.basis. Some splendid vehicles there. The one in front was made in 1905.

:49:25. > :49:33.

:49:33. > :49:40.It is a Renault. Absolutely beautiful. I am not sure who is

:49:40. > :49:45.driving it but I bet he is having a cracking day today. And what a

:49:45. > :49:55.great registration! Do you remember when we used to start winding cars

:49:55. > :49:56.

:49:56. > :50:03.up by winding round a handle? I actually remember winding a handful

:50:03. > :50:12.around on an Austin that fell apart eventually! -- wind in a handle.

:50:12. > :50:16.There we have some of the more modern vehicles belonging to the AA.

:50:16. > :50:22.Judging from the cars parked around the back of Mansion House belonging

:50:22. > :50:28.to so many of the Lord Mayors that have come here today. I do not

:50:28. > :50:36.suppose they will have to call out the AA on too many occasions.

:50:36. > :50:44.CLARE BALDING: Right behind we have Hammersmith Academy, a brand new

:50:44. > :50:50.school that opened in September. If Tom, what was the inspiration

:50:50. > :50:55.behind the Academy? For we wanted to create a school for the 21st

:50:55. > :51:02.century that has all the technology you could imagine for a will next

:51:02. > :51:09.generation school. And a lot of the information we have is going back

:51:09. > :51:15.500 years. What is special about your school? All the new media and

:51:15. > :51:20.everything, since it is brand new, nothing is broken! Brilliant! Is it

:51:20. > :51:26.true you got the idea for school from seeing children in a shop

:51:26. > :51:30.being really fired up by the internet, computers? Absolutely. I

:51:30. > :51:34.went into my shop and you saw the teenage children playing with the

:51:34. > :51:40.computers, learning, engaging, and I thought, it wouldn't it be

:51:40. > :51:45.amazing to have a school with that kind of draw. And we have TV's,

:51:45. > :51:55.radios everywhere, computers. The kids love it will stop -- we have

:51:55. > :51:56.

:51:56. > :52:02.TVs. Around the school, we have TVs to show pictures from trips and to

:52:02. > :52:08.show their headmaster's speech. sounds sensational. You should be

:52:08. > :52:16.the presenter or interviewer for your film. Yes! Thank you so much,

:52:16. > :52:26.Tom. A lovely display for Hammersmith

:52:26. > :52:27.

:52:27. > :52:31.Academy. We are just watching the Jack Petchy Foundation. They are

:52:32. > :52:37.going past at Mansion House. An award will be made today by a

:52:37. > :52:42.youngster from the Jack Petchy Foundation. It recognises the

:52:42. > :52:48.leadership skills shown by the Lord Mayor. Leadership and achievement

:52:48. > :52:52.is what the Jack Petchy Foundation is all about. It is run in almost

:52:52. > :52:58.2000 schools and clubs in London and Essex. It is not just about

:52:58. > :53:08.being academic. It celebrates a wide range of skills. Somewhere in

:53:08. > :53:09.

:53:09. > :53:18.there we have the Ascension Eagles. They do tremendous trip acrobatics

:53:18. > :53:26.and circus performances, too. They are the current national champions

:53:26. > :53:30.in their age group. They are the junior team. And like the Jack

:53:30. > :53:40.Petchy Foundation, they aim to transform and inspire young people

:53:40. > :53:45.

:53:45. > :53:49.to reach their potential. That is what the foundation is all about.

:53:49. > :53:59.If you are wondering what it Broda ring is all about, it is about

:53:59. > :54:13.

:54:13. > :54:23.embroidery. They are now supported by the Royal School of Needlework.

:54:23. > :54:32.It was formed originally to protect the craft of embroidery. It has

:54:32. > :54:42.been in existence for over 400 years. Now to the band of the Royal

:54:42. > :54:51.

:54:51. > :54:59.Yeomanry and City Yeomanry. All part timers. The 71 Signal Regiment.

:54:59. > :55:03.When King George the Third inspected the troupe, he had a huge

:55:03. > :55:13.dislike of lawyers, particularly those carrying weapons, and he

:55:13. > :55:25.

:55:25. > :55:30.The marching detachment made up of 13 riders, cavalry blacks or

:55:30. > :55:34.charges, and those of horses belong to the Household Cavalry, face down

:55:34. > :55:42.in Kensington, so they have travelled quite a long way today

:55:42. > :55:48.already. -- based at down in Kensington. There will be a return

:55:48. > :55:52.ceremony in the afternoon after they have visited the Royal Courts

:55:52. > :55:57.of Justice and then the parade comes back towards Mansion House,

:55:57. > :56:02.starting on the Embankment. Just a reminder to anybody in the vicinity,

:56:02. > :56:06.if you want to see something spectacular, at 5pm this evening on

:56:06. > :56:16.the banks of the River Thames, there is an absolutely superb

:56:16. > :56:18.

:56:35. > :56:40.making of the parade? Good morning! We are having great fun on this

:56:40. > :56:45.parade. It is fantastic and now the sun is coming. Zurich greets London

:56:45. > :56:50.and we are enjoying London are very much. You have your own parade in

:56:50. > :57:00.Zurich in the spring? Yes. On that occasion, we get flowers from all

:57:00. > :57:04.the ladies and they get kisses. And we distribute chocolate to the

:57:04. > :57:09.people in London. It is a bit different. I understand the new

:57:09. > :57:13.Lord Mayor has been invited over to Zurich for your parade? Yes. We

:57:13. > :57:18.have the privilege that David Wootton will come to our next

:57:18. > :57:22.parade in Zurich in the spring. This is the sign of a long-standing

:57:22. > :57:27.traditions between our guilds, the relationships between them. Between

:57:27. > :57:34.London and Zurich and the two nations. Fabulous! Felix, thank you

:57:35. > :57:44.very much. Asking for Swiss chocolates. He has got chocolates!

:57:45. > :57:59.

:57:59. > :58:09.There have been so many fantastic bands parading in front of us this

:58:09. > :58:12.

:58:12. > :58:17.morning and the costumes have been absolutely outstanding. The Royal

:58:17. > :58:24.British Legion Band and the Corps of Drums from Romford. The Royal

:58:24. > :58:34.British Legion, of course, so prominent over the last few weeks

:58:34. > :58:46.

:58:46. > :58:51.The City of London solicitors have been appearing in the show for over

:58:51. > :58:55.30 years. They have made a big effort this year. Walkers in

:58:55. > :59:03.gazelle heads symbolising speed and athletics. That comes the day after

:59:04. > :59:13.London was awarded the 2017 World Athletics Championships. And the

:59:14. > :59:15.

:59:15. > :59:25.Modern Library -- Modern Livery Companies just in front of that

:59:25. > :59:29.

:59:29. > :59:39.float, with some tremendous motorbikes. A couple of Harley-

:10:37. > :10:41.scenes. And another organisation that we

:10:41. > :10:51.are so proud to see representing young people as well as some of the

:10:51. > :11:05.

:11:05. > :11:09.older ones too. There we have an octopus here! That

:14:55. > :15:05.special too. They are just coming around the corner.

:15:05. > :15:09.

:15:09. > :15:12.They are all electric! There is a tremendous atmosphere here just

:15:12. > :15:22.going past Mansion House. Pan Nation there and their steel band.

:18:02. > :18:11.Filipinos, the Filipino community. You can see the dance troupe behind

:18:11. > :18:21.us. You are very, very well represented and this is a

:18:21. > :18:23.

:18:23. > :18:33.magnificent float. Thank you very As we look at Paraiso School of

:20:37. > :20:47.The Worshipful Company of Tin Plate Workers in that beautiful three-

:20:47. > :21:02.

:21:03. > :21:08.When you are talking about millions raised for charity, the next float

:21:08. > :21:13.it marching past the Mansion House is very well known to many people.

:21:13. > :21:18.The Variety Club of Great Britain. 60 years, they have been raising

:21:18. > :21:26.millions of pounds, particularly, of course, on their Sunshine Coast

:21:26. > :21:36.programme. That started way back in 1962. Since then, they have raised

:21:59. > :22:09.money! There's somebody enjoying themselves but you must not get too

:22:09. > :22:42.

:22:42. > :22:48.And now community policing and their cycle team. Not a daredevil

:22:48. > :22:55.cycling team but these guys and girls have a primary function all-

:23:01. > :23:07.-- over the City of London. CLARE BALDING: one thing I find

:23:07. > :23:14.remarkable about the Lord Mayor's Show is how the horses cope with it.

:23:14. > :23:24.This is Desirable stop this is your 20th Lord Mayor show, equalling the

:23:24. > :23:26.

:23:26. > :23:33.record of Dominic. He is lovely, this horse. He has been treating me

:23:33. > :23:38.well. Who has been giving you riding lessons? I am very lucky. I

:23:38. > :23:41.have been taught by one of the best riding instructors there is. We

:23:42. > :23:47.have worked quite hard and hopefully I am confident in doing

:23:47. > :23:54.the things I need to do him parade. I have to say, you look even more

:23:54. > :24:02.magnificent up there. It could be 150 years ago, 200 years ago, and

:24:02. > :24:06.that is the way the parade is. Thank you. That is very kind. It is

:24:06. > :24:16.great tradition but it has lots of lovely modern elements as well. And

:24:16. > :24:18.

:24:18. > :24:23.we have had great weather. Here The parade carries on for some

:24:23. > :24:28.hours yet, so for many spectators, a lot to look forward to. But as

:24:28. > :24:33.the Pageantmaster said, it is a mixture of the old and the very,

:24:33. > :24:43.very new as well, to celebrate the election of the next Lord Mayor of

:24:43. > :24:47.

:24:47. > :24:54.London. And what a year he has to CLARE BALDING: yes, as Paul says,

:24:54. > :25:04.an extraordinary year, including the Paralympics, the Olympics, the

:25:04. > :25:06.

:25:06. > :25:12.Cultural Olympiad, the Diamond Jubilee. I was talking earlier and

:25:13. > :25:16.he said it was very important that every boy is in London was heard.

:25:16. > :25:20.The Lord Mayor will now make his way to the will cause of justice

:25:20. > :25:27.and the parade starts again at 1pm down the embankment and makes its

:25:27. > :25:34.way back here to Mansion House, and also have a fantastic fireworks
