:00:00. > :00:00.crisis. Nick Clegg makes his case for European Union membership at the

:00:00. > :00:21.Lib Dem conference and criticises the backward looking politics of

:00:22. > :00:38.UKIP. Welcome to our lookahead at what the peoples will us tomorrow.

:00:39. > :00:49.The Telegraph leads on each story about a new blood test for

:00:50. > :00:52.Alzheimer's disease. It shows Prince Harry and his girlfriend enjoying

:00:53. > :00:58.the sunshine at Twickenham in its picture. The Daily Express shows a

:00:59. > :01:05.picture of people sunning themselves on Brighton beach on what it calls

:01:06. > :01:14.the warmest day of the year so far when temperatures reached 70

:01:15. > :01:22.Fahrenheit. The Guardian claims that 583,000 employees, more than double

:01:23. > :01:27.the estimate of the government, signed up to zero hours contracts

:01:28. > :01:40.last year. The daily Mirror says that spring seems to have finally

:01:41. > :01:46.sprung. The Times leads on the missing plane amid fears that China

:01:47. > :01:57.could have been the subject of a terrorist attack. The Daily Mail has

:01:58. > :02:00.a story on a school head, a Muslim, driven out of her position by

:02:01. > :02:10.extremists intent on taking over Muslim schools. Let us start with

:02:11. > :02:18.the Daily Telegraph. This is looking at the Lib Dem spring conference.

:02:19. > :02:21.Tim, what do you make of this? It is well written and beautifully

:02:22. > :02:26.presented. Nick Clegg lists all the things that make Britain so great

:02:27. > :02:34.such as donning shorts and flip-flops at the first tent of

:02:35. > :02:43.sunshine, the spiky coverage of Private I of the royal wedding. It

:02:44. > :02:49.strikes me as odd that he has to prove he loves his country and these

:02:50. > :02:59.are so cliched. The fact that we like tea and that we have a stiff

:03:00. > :03:07.upper lip. I canny not mention that we are an economic powerhouse. The

:03:08. > :03:14.Lib Dems are very kind to their leader but to be fair he said I love

:03:15. > :03:18.these things, not just that he liked them. This was much more passionate

:03:19. > :03:24.and the only thing I quibbled with was when he said he liked people who

:03:25. > :03:32.wore T-shirts and flip-flops. I think the true Lib Dem like people

:03:33. > :03:39.in T-shirts and sandals. At the heart of this, to be slightly more

:03:40. > :03:49.serious, was an attempt to reclaim Patchett is from UKIP. He says that

:03:50. > :03:54.his mattresses is these things which are underpinned by liberal values,

:03:55. > :04:04.so what he likes about Britain is the BBC, the NHS, but also the fact

:04:05. > :04:13.that we were the first signatories to the European law of human rights.

:04:14. > :04:20.How do you think it will go down with people outside the hall? I

:04:21. > :04:24.think it is a waste of time and he will try and went over everyone who

:04:25. > :04:29.hates UKIP. I feel that the only people who turn out in the next

:04:30. > :04:39.round of European elections will be people who want to protest against

:04:40. > :04:57.Europe. The Conservatives talk about welfare and migration. Labour talk

:04:58. > :05:02.about taxing the Ridge -- rich and the Lib Dems talk about Europe. Will

:05:03. > :05:08.it play well outside that constituency? I am not sure that

:05:09. > :05:17.people like to be told why they love their country and I think they have

:05:18. > :05:25.their own list. There may be able to watching us while drinking tea and

:05:26. > :05:33.waving flip-flops. The Daily Telegraph has a headline about a

:05:34. > :05:40.blood test which will show if people are likely to suffer Alzheimer's. If

:05:41. > :05:46.this is correct, it will tell people earlier on if they will get this

:05:47. > :05:51.horrific condition and the question is, do you want to know? Was people

:05:52. > :05:55.see they do but if you are being told in your 50s or your late 60s

:05:56. > :06:02.are your late 70s that you will get Alzheimer's, that is quite

:06:03. > :06:07.frightening. Then there's the question of whether we will get

:06:08. > :06:14.pre-genetic testing for all sorts of conditions. Then there is a question

:06:15. > :06:21.of how easy it is to get life insurance if you have the condition.

:06:22. > :06:28.I guess the hope is that the genetic testing moves as far as medicine to

:06:29. > :06:33.be able to treat it moves. If we are moving to an area where we can give

:06:34. > :06:39.people a three-year warning, hopefully medicine and then help

:06:40. > :06:44.with the effects over those three years. I personally know that I

:06:45. > :06:47.would want to know and I would think a great number of people would want

:06:48. > :06:52.to know and people feel that they can get help and treatment in

:06:53. > :06:56.advance, I think this may help people through what is the condition

:06:57. > :07:01.that can be very surprising and shocking and frightening and maybe

:07:02. > :07:14.some preparation like that would help. Moving onto the main picture

:07:15. > :07:22.story. We are seeing a lot more of young Cressida. That suggests a

:07:23. > :07:35.rather adoringly. I do not know how long they had to wait for that

:07:36. > :07:42.picture. What a great day out and she obviously likes it. She did

:07:43. > :07:49.accompany him to a global youth conference so she is stepping out of

:07:50. > :07:55.the shadows a bit. I don't blame her and looking at him rather than the

:07:56. > :08:01.match because I do not imagine anything could be more boring for

:08:02. > :08:14.the date than that. His eyes could be shot. He may be looking somewhere

:08:15. > :08:33.else. Is she looking over his head? We will move on to the Daily Express

:08:34. > :08:35.and the story about the sunshine. Today has been marvellous. I have

:08:36. > :08:41.been able to walk around without freezing to death and it is

:08:42. > :08:46.marvellous for this country has extraordinary variations on whether

:08:47. > :08:48.and it felt like we were living in the Arctic last week but now we seem

:08:49. > :08:55.to have jumped straight into spring and I am so thrilled. I never know

:08:56. > :09:02.why newspapers show Brighton beach absolutely packed because it shows

:09:03. > :09:13.this image and it puts me off going to a beach. It is a story that is

:09:14. > :09:19.picked up in almost all the papers suggesting perhaps a quite domestic

:09:20. > :09:22.news day. I think it is also a reflection of quite a difficult

:09:23. > :09:27.winter of flooding and extreme weather conditions and we suffered

:09:28. > :09:38.and I think this is people saying, find God that is over. We will move

:09:39. > :09:47.on to The Guardian. The main story there is about zero hours. We should

:09:48. > :09:56.start off with what serial our contracts are. They have certainly

:09:57. > :10:05.been controversial. You said people signed up to these but they are

:10:06. > :10:07.often not given a choice. What it is its companies saying they want

:10:08. > :10:15.people to be available to work a set number of hours that they also have

:10:16. > :10:19.exclusivity clauses. It says that we want you to be available for 18

:10:20. > :10:25.hours a week for a pass and on call any time a week so there is no

:10:26. > :10:28.guarantee that you will have any work and during that time you cannot

:10:29. > :10:35.apply for another job. That is ludicrous. People want to work more

:10:36. > :10:39.hours than they can and they are forbidden to do this. The second

:10:40. > :10:46.issue is that they do not get holiday pay of sick pay or pension

:10:47. > :10:50.rights and therefore the companies are getting very cheap labour with

:10:51. > :10:54.no responsibility and the workers are getting very poor deal. Some

:10:55. > :11:00.people like them because they like the flexibility of being able to do

:11:01. > :11:02.to three hours a week here are their around their childcare duties on

:11:03. > :11:11.around other commitments they have in the life. They do work for them

:11:12. > :11:18.but in the vast majority of cases they are exploitation. Because the

:11:19. > :11:23.story is not so much about zero hours contracts but about the fact

:11:24. > :11:29.that the figures put out the government has so underestimated

:11:30. > :11:33.what the real figures are. All I would say on all those points, and I

:11:34. > :11:39.agree with the great number of them, is the kind of Labour market we have

:11:40. > :11:43.no rest on flexibility, especially during a difficult period when

:11:44. > :11:51.companies are resistant about taking people on. Anything that has lowest

:11:52. > :11:55.costs for the employer but increases flexibility for the employee is a

:11:56. > :12:00.good thing but I do not think it reliable that there are problems and

:12:01. > :12:06.it can lead to exploitation. Exclusivity is a problem. Last year

:12:07. > :12:09.there was a survey done of people on zero hours and they found that

:12:10. > :12:14.although twice as many people were as many people weren't happy with

:12:15. > :12:16.the contract as were unhappy, one in five said they were penalised if

:12:17. > :12:24.they could not do the work and nearly half were set to work only to

:12:25. > :12:33.be sold at the last minute that it had been cancelled. You talk about

:12:34. > :12:37.flexibility that flexibility is entirely on the work with nine on

:12:38. > :12:44.behalf of of the employer. That is the real issue. They get away with

:12:45. > :12:53.not having to pay any of the basic rights you should get as a worker.

:12:54. > :12:55.But that is why the employee. You should make yourself affordable in

:12:56. > :13:03.the market and to do this you surrender these rights. Who loses

:13:04. > :13:14.out on this? It is you and me as the taxpayer because we'd end up topping

:13:15. > :13:20.up tax credits. You can sign up for one of these contracts and be told

:13:21. > :13:26.that you can work there. But it is undermining the social contract

:13:27. > :13:35.between employer and apply the -- employee. That is it for the papers

:13:36. > :13:41.this hour. Thank you to Jason and ten and we will be back at 11 30

:13:42. > :13:51.with the stories making the news tomorrow. At 11 o'clock we'll have

:13:52. > :13:59.though latest on the search operation for the Malaysian jet.

:14:00. > :14:00.Coming up next, click. --
