:00:16. > :00:19.Hello and welcome to our look at the morning's papers. With me are the

:00:20. > :00:23.political journalist, Sean Dilley, and the journalist and feature

:00:24. > :00:28.writer Eva Simpson. Let's start with a look at the front pages. The

:00:29. > :00:31.Observer has a warning from the cabinet minister in charge of

:00:32. > :00:38.Scotland that complacency could lead to sleepwalking in to a split from

:00:39. > :00:42.the UK. The Sun has an exclusive. It says the Tory MP Mark Menzies has

:00:43. > :00:46.quit his job as a ministerial aide over sex allegations. The

:00:47. > :00:49.Independent leads with a new climate report that says we risk a future of

:00:50. > :00:58.dying forests, catastrophic wildfires and insect plagues as

:00:59. > :01:01.climate change worsens. A picture of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

:01:02. > :01:06.with Prince George features on the front of the Mail on Sunday. The

:01:07. > :01:09.Telegraph carries an interview with the former Archbishop of Canterbury

:01:10. > :01:15.Rowan Williams, in which he claims that affluent western lifestyles

:01:16. > :01:21.have pushed the environment towards crisis point. The Sunday Times says

:01:22. > :01:24.Labour are planning to slash university tuition fees in a bid to

:01:25. > :01:28.woo votes from Middle England. And the Express leads with the claim

:01:29. > :01:29.that the government is struggling to contain the problem of our pets

:01:30. > :01:41.being infected with TB. Let's begin. Plenty of different

:01:42. > :01:47.stories making the front pages this week. Let's start with the Observer,

:01:48. > :01:51.that warning from Alistair Carmichael, a cabinet minister,

:01:52. > :01:57.saying we are in danger of losing the Scottish independence poll

:01:58. > :02:02.because of complacency. I suppose as a political spokesperson, we should

:02:03. > :02:06.start with you? Spokesperson? And I just say, Alex Salmond, watching

:02:07. > :02:16.this at home, will probably be throwing his tartan tea cosy at the

:02:17. > :02:25.telly, when you said that Alistair Carmichael is in charge of

:02:26. > :02:29.Scotland. But he saying it is not impossible, people could take their

:02:30. > :02:34.eye off the ball and Scotland could's everybody could sleepwalk

:02:35. > :02:41.into independence. I find it surprising if anybody really thinks

:02:42. > :02:43.that. The Republicans, the pro`independence camp in Scotland,

:02:44. > :02:54.they would say clearly there is complacency within the no campaign,

:02:55. > :02:58.and that this would suggest this is a device in which to show the

:02:59. > :03:03.priorities in not being complacent. It's also good to give people a bit

:03:04. > :03:08.of a shake. I don't think it will happen, but when people can get

:03:09. > :03:12.complacent, it they think, we are not going to break away, everything

:03:13. > :03:17.will be fine. If there is an summary reminding them saying, do vote for

:03:18. > :03:23.what you want, if you don't, and you don't get the right result, you

:03:24. > :03:27.can't complain. Alistair Carmichael can give his coalition government

:03:28. > :03:32.colleague advice. David Cameron has a lot to say on the independence

:03:33. > :03:36.debate. Let's be very clear, 83% of people in Scotland, I'll say that

:03:37. > :03:41.again, 83% of Scottish people voted for someone that was not David

:03:42. > :03:46.Cameron due to the Conservative's history in Scotland. If you want to

:03:47. > :03:52.be respected, I guess you should stand up if you want to be heard,

:03:53. > :03:55.speak up. You say they are putting up the wrong person to talk about

:03:56. > :04:01.this? Entirely the wrong people. People are not stupid enough, north

:04:02. > :04:05.or south of the border, to be persuaded by these arguments. It is

:04:06. > :04:06.entirely the wrong thing to do, for mistrusted politicians in

:04:07. > :04:14.Westminster to tell Scottish people what to do. Be quiet, zip it like

:04:15. > :04:20.the fellow of the little map off Rainbow. That phrase comes from the

:04:21. > :04:24.newspapers. You know this, I'm a journalist, we use ridiculous

:04:25. > :04:28.phrases. I wasn't criticising you. Just interesting that phrase is

:04:29. > :04:31.being used, we will have to see if Alistair Carmichael's comments

:04:32. > :04:39.layout in any direction. Staying with the Observer, looking at

:04:40. > :04:43.opinion polls, Labour's support has slumped to its lowest level since

:04:44. > :04:50.soon after the 2010 election, this, of course, after the budget. Is this

:04:51. > :04:55.going to put a lot more pressure on the readership? According to this,

:04:56. > :05:01.it is at its lowest since the last election, 2010. They say it is down

:05:02. > :05:08.two points, they are now 133%. Yes, Ed Miliband, reading these, will be

:05:09. > :05:14.panicking. The suggestion was, after the budget, that things would even

:05:15. > :05:22.out again. To be this far behind, when people are so cross with what

:05:23. > :05:27.is going on with the cuts and the rest of... I don't think he'll panic

:05:28. > :05:35.too much. The is doing better than Ed Balls, with his flat`lining

:05:36. > :05:40.motion, would have suggested. There is a poll we are going to come onto

:05:41. > :05:44.that says they are on 40 points. From what you know, are their senior

:05:45. > :05:48.Labour figures that are beginning to panic? I don't think so. At the end

:05:49. > :05:52.of the day, oppositions have everything to win, not to lose. I

:05:53. > :05:56.think they are a little bit worried. There's been an awful lot of talk

:05:57. > :05:59.about Ed Balls, whether he is the right man to lead the economic

:06:00. > :06:04.poverty for the Labour Party. But then he has an awful lot of friends

:06:05. > :06:08.as well as those that would seek to criticise the new personality.

:06:09. > :06:11.Having said that, this close to an election, you're right, there is

:06:12. > :06:16.another poll in the Sunday Times that paints a different for the

:06:17. > :06:20.Labour Party. The European election will be the worry. You were saying

:06:21. > :06:26.about UKIP's position, 15 points, being significant? They are on 15,

:06:27. > :06:32.the Lib Dems, that is the surprising thing, they are on ten. I think if

:06:33. > :06:39.anyone should be worrying, it should be them. The kingmakers, as they are

:06:40. > :06:45.potentially going to be again. The paper also refers to the so`called

:06:46. > :06:48.omnishambles budget of March 2012, when the polls were much closer.

:06:49. > :06:56.When they were going around putting on pasty taxes and claiming to eat

:06:57. > :07:00.Cornish pasties at stations that don't exist. You would think this

:07:01. > :07:04.one was gone through with a fine tooth comb? The last thing you want

:07:05. > :07:08.to ask about economics is new chancellors. To be fair, you could

:07:09. > :07:11.give George Osborne that point. When there is plenty of sunshine above,

:07:12. > :07:15.the coalition have always said they intend to get the economy back on

:07:16. > :07:19.track. As long as the economy is not crashing and burning, as it looked

:07:20. > :07:25.like it very well could, things will look slightly better for David

:07:26. > :07:29.Cameron. It's not uprising, these figures. After the budget, the

:07:30. > :07:34.response from Ed Miliband, the general consensus was that it wasn't

:07:35. > :07:39.very robust. We have been saying for ages it was not going to work... On

:07:40. > :07:44.that very point, the Sunday Times lead story has a claim that Labour

:07:45. > :07:49.will take an axe to student fees, saying that instead of this cap of

:07:50. > :07:54.9000, which sparked riots when it was debated in 2010, apparently Ed

:07:55. > :08:00.Miliband is thinking of pledging to cut it to ?6,000, or even more.

:08:01. > :08:05.There is no doubt that is going to be a major decision maker for some

:08:06. > :08:10.people. It's very appealing. If it is going to be their policy, it

:08:11. > :08:13.would appeal to lots of middle England, middle`class parents. But I

:08:14. > :08:18.think tuition fees have often been used as a bit of a political

:08:19. > :08:21.football. The last time this came home to roost for the Lib Dems, when

:08:22. > :08:26.they claimed they would not introduce student tuition fees, they

:08:27. > :08:34.pledged to vote against it and the minute they got in, they did it.

:08:35. > :08:38.They were in coalition, to be fair. It's all well and good saying we are

:08:39. > :08:42.going to do this, but voters are not stupid, they have seen is not a

:08:43. > :08:47.country before. They are saying they are going to have a graduate tax.

:08:48. > :08:55.See this, it is the face of a very cynical political journalist! They

:08:56. > :08:59.claim that it is currently ?9,000. We're watching you, Labour,

:09:00. > :09:03.conservatives and Lib Dems. You are suggesting this was put out but is

:09:04. > :09:07.not going to happen? It's very nice, the idea to get rid of debt

:09:08. > :09:14.and everything. If there is a graduate tax... It's carefully

:09:15. > :09:18.worded, they say you will still pay. Old conservatives, as opposed to the

:09:19. > :09:22.new Progressive Conservatives we have now, there would probably say

:09:23. > :09:26.it would be punishing success. Old Labour would say, as all of the

:09:27. > :09:31.parties do, those with the broadest shoulders, mine are very broad at

:09:32. > :09:35.the moment, plenty of running needs to be done, they should take the

:09:36. > :09:42.main burden. It is appealing. Just to recap, we were talking about fees

:09:43. > :09:47.of ?3000 a year. There was a riot and I'm afraid I was injured in the

:09:48. > :09:51.line of duty. Very seriously! Firstly assaulted by protesters and

:09:52. > :09:58.then accidentally hit by the City of London Police. Cheers, guys(!) That

:09:59. > :10:04.was whilst helping a casualties. What he's is that he would reduce

:10:05. > :10:07.it. Keen to get onto the Telegraph, that have a very different story,

:10:08. > :10:10.talking about a climate catastrophe. This is according to

:10:11. > :10:16.the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams. He seems to be more

:10:17. > :10:20.in the news now than when he was Archbishop? SOCA he's got a lot of

:10:21. > :10:23.time on his hands, so he can write for papers like the Sunday

:10:24. > :10:32.Telegraph. He has written for them exclusively and he is saying it's

:10:33. > :10:35.the Western lifestyle. It is the use of fossil fuels to blame for climate

:10:36. > :10:40.change. The reason why he has written is because the UN

:10:41. > :10:44.intergovernmental panel on climate change is publishing its latest

:10:45. > :10:49.report, which apparently runs into thousands of pages and it is all

:10:50. > :10:53.about the consequences of the rise in global temperatures. Which will

:10:54. > :11:04.tell us, at the end of the century, it will cost ?60 billion a year, our

:11:05. > :11:10.use of fossil fuels. A lot of money, a very worrying report and worrying

:11:11. > :11:15.words. 60% of the NHS budget, in real terms. I think the climate is

:11:16. > :11:22.something people care about very deeply. Is it something that the

:11:23. > :11:25.Church show... Well, I suppose you could say... He has written this

:11:26. > :11:29.piece in his capacity as a chairman of Christian Aid. He says the people

:11:30. > :11:35.that are going to suffer the most are South America, Africa and Asia.

:11:36. > :11:41.Some of the poorest people are going to suffer the most, which is why

:11:42. > :11:44.he's been very vocal. The language is good, inasmuch as one thing an

:11:45. > :11:51.awful lot of people get frustrated about, however neutral one may be,

:11:52. > :11:58.the worst climate change denier is there. It's word association that is

:11:59. > :12:02.unfortunate. It's a lot more measured and tempered. Briefly, a

:12:03. > :12:07.look at the Mail on Sunday. A picture of Prince Charles. Della

:12:08. > :12:15.there's no story on the front page! It is a nice photo. And adorable

:12:16. > :12:21.photo. Looking more and more like Prince William in that. Some people

:12:22. > :12:33.will come plain how close the dog is to the Prince. That is it, thanks to

:12:34. > :12:38.our guests, who will be back at 11:34 another look at the papers. At

:12:39. > :12:40.11 we will have the latest on the resume search for the missing

:12:41. > :12:43.Malaysia Airlines plane. Coming up next, Reporters.
