:00:00. > :00:00.investigation. As the British swimming Championships come to a

:00:00. > :00:15.close, we will round up another record`breaking day in Glasgow.

:00:16. > :00:18.Hello, and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be bringing

:00:19. > :00:21.us tomorrow. With me are Elizabeth Orcutt, deputy picture editor at the

:00:22. > :00:31.Times, and Oliver Wright, Whitehall editor at the Independent. Time for

:00:32. > :00:35.a look at the front pages. The Metro is leading on a report by the UN

:00:36. > :00:41.boys' club. The Independent focuses boys' club. The Independent focuses

:00:42. > :00:44.on a report by a food bank charity that claims nearly one million

:00:45. > :00:47.people in Britain rely on handouts to eat. The growing number of those

:00:48. > :00:51.depending on food parcels in the UK is also the splash in the Mirror.

:00:52. > :00:54.The Guardian's main story is the crisis in the Ukraine, though its

:00:55. > :00:58.main picture shows fans at the commemoration for those killed at

:00:59. > :01:00.Hillsborough 25 years ago. The Telegraph's main story looks at the

:01:01. > :01:04.health service, which it says is stretched to breaking point. The

:01:05. > :01:10.Mail front page features more allegations of a Lib Dem cover up

:01:11. > :01:13.over the Cyril Smith scandal. The Times leads with claims that UKIP

:01:14. > :01:18.members have been blocked from raising questions over the party's

:01:19. > :01:21.use of EU funding. And the front page of the Sun shows a picture of a

:01:22. > :01:30.12 and 13`year`old couple, who they say have become Britain's youngest

:01:31. > :01:35.parents. The i has a pig of Liverpool fans raising their scarves

:01:36. > :01:42.in honour of those who died. `` a picture of Liverpool fans. The UK

:01:43. > :01:45.has the sixth largest economy in the world and has more millionaires than

:01:46. > :01:53.ever before, but that picture is of someone who is not sharing in the

:01:54. > :02:01.uptick, one would say, in the economy. It's a very arresting

:02:02. > :02:06.image. It solves a tearful child. The picture is not a live picture,

:02:07. > :02:11.it has been sourced with an agency. The story is about foodbanks and I

:02:12. > :02:16.cannot think of any mother who would not go hungry in order to feed her

:02:17. > :02:28.child. It's arresting but you wonder if it really reflects the story.

:02:29. > :02:32.Particularly if this child has not been photographed by the journalist

:02:33. > :02:41.doing the investigation. It is from an agency. All newspapers do that,

:02:42. > :02:44.don't they? Yes, but we try not to do that when it is a splash story or

:02:45. > :02:51.a serious story. We will use illustrative pictures but in an

:02:52. > :03:01.ethical way. In an ethical way? LAUGHTER. We will say that it is a

:03:02. > :03:09.muddled picture. I will look out for that. `` a picture with a model.

:03:10. > :03:12.Oliver, your paper decided not to use a photograph for this particular

:03:13. > :03:20.story and went with Ukraine instead. You think that your headline is

:03:21. > :03:25.arresting enough, clearly. We serve a different market from the Mirror,

:03:26. > :03:29.and we are trying to have several different stories on the front page

:03:30. > :03:34.of things you might like to read in the paper. Occasionally, we will

:03:35. > :03:38.dedicate the entire front page to a story but on a day like today, what

:03:39. > :03:43.is happening in Ukraine is very important. We have the most

:03:44. > :03:48.important domestic story, as we see it, of the day and the most

:03:49. > :03:52.important international story. But the Mirror has the big blowout of

:03:53. > :04:00.this one thing. Regardless of how we present the various stories... It is

:04:01. > :04:02.a powerful story. And not one that the government will want after

:04:03. > :04:07.spending weeks trying to trumpet the good news about the economy to the

:04:08. > :04:11.extent that other ministers are being told that they are not allowed

:04:12. > :04:16.to speak out. They want to get the message out that the economy is

:04:17. > :04:20.getting better. And then we have this report suggesting that the

:04:21. > :04:26.number of people using foodbanks has gone up from 346,000 people last

:04:27. > :04:30.year to almost 1 million this year, and that is not great, and it shows

:04:31. > :04:35.the divide between the people for whom the economy is improving and

:04:36. > :04:40.those people who are on benefits and for whom it is definitely not. And

:04:41. > :04:45.this story as well, it is Ukraine. And a crisis there that is reaching

:04:46. > :04:51.the point where it could explode, frankly, now that the Ukrainian

:04:52. > :04:55.authorities have decided to send their own forces into retake parts

:04:56. > :05:07.of the east. And which way will it go? Who knows? The Sun.

:05:08. > :05:12.Interesting, this, Elizabeth, because the Sun obviously has to

:05:13. > :05:17.cover this story. It's a huge story. One of the most important stories of

:05:18. > :05:20.the day, the commemorative service at Anfield for the 25th anniversary

:05:21. > :05:25.of the Hillsborough disaster, but there is an interesting story behind

:05:26. > :05:31.some of the pictures that are coming out of Liverpool and the Sun itself.

:05:32. > :05:35.Certainly, some of the pictures we have seen have been coming through

:05:36. > :05:39.the wires since this afternoon. Some of them could not have been

:05:40. > :05:45.published by the Sun. They have a full set here. But certainly, some

:05:46. > :05:53.of the providers did not want the Sun to publish them and that goes

:05:54. > :05:56.back to 25 years ago, when... The Sun's infamous headline and its

:05:57. > :06:01.publication of some of the allegations that were being made by

:06:02. > :06:05.the police force in Sheffield, concerning what had happened at

:06:06. > :06:11.Hillsborough. Clearly, that anger still lingers in Merseyside. Is it

:06:12. > :06:15.local agencies today that were saying that this cannot be published

:06:16. > :06:21.in the Sun? To be honest, I don't know. But possibly, it was pictures

:06:22. > :06:26.coming out of Anfield it's itself, because they have their own

:06:27. > :06:31.photographers and their own agencies. I could not say exactly.

:06:32. > :06:35.There are still some people who refuse to purchase the Sun. You

:06:36. > :06:43.cannot get it in some places. Newsagents won't stop it. Does this

:06:44. > :06:50.caption here, the photographs, the child, does that get across what

:06:51. > :06:55.happened, do you think? Because of any potential restrictions that may

:06:56. > :06:59.have been on the Sun? That does look like a fair representation of what

:07:00. > :07:05.happened. The ground was packed full of people, there was one minute's

:07:06. > :07:09.silence, when people stood with their scarves in the air and you can

:07:10. > :07:13.see that. The image of the little boy who never knew his uncle and

:07:14. > :07:19.grandfather, who were both killed. You can see the sculpture of the 96

:07:20. > :07:35.nights, you can understand what that is. `` lights. I think they have

:07:36. > :07:40.done a good job. And the inquest into those who died has been

:07:41. > :07:45.reopened. A huge and very important moment for the people, obviously.

:07:46. > :07:52.The inquest will go on for quite some time but it's extraordinary

:07:53. > :07:54.that 25 years on, there are still very fundamental questions and

:07:55. > :08:00.disagreements on things which have not yet been solved. You can only

:08:01. > :08:04.imagine what it would be like if it was your father or grandfather who

:08:05. > :08:13.had been killed. This very long fight to get to what they hope will

:08:14. > :08:17.be the truth. The truth, indeed. The Metro. There is an obvious reason

:08:18. > :08:24.why I will ask you this question and not Oliver. Boys' club Britain? The

:08:25. > :08:33.world's most sexist country? What is the story and do you agree? This is

:08:34. > :08:43.the woman appointed by the UN as a special consultant to the UN and she

:08:44. > :08:48.has come to the UK and she has done 14 days worth of intense

:08:49. > :08:57.investigation and she says we are boys' club Britain. That we live in

:08:58. > :09:12.a very sexist society. It has echoes of the Brazil not... LAUGHTER `` the

:09:13. > :09:19.Brazil nut, which is how some of the papers referred to her, but... Do we

:09:20. > :09:23.live in a sexist society? Yes, there are still vestiges of that, but

:09:24. > :09:31.equally, it is lastly improved from when I started my career 25 years

:09:32. > :09:34.ago. All this lady had to do was look at the make`up of the current

:09:35. > :09:45.Cabinet. There are more parliamentarians `` female

:09:46. > :09:50.parliamentarians in Afghanistan than in the UK. I'm not sure how

:09:51. > :09:56.seriously we should take this after 14 days of research. I'm a bit

:09:57. > :10:03.sceptical of these... It's quite good publicity. It's a great talking

:10:04. > :10:08.point. But if you are going to look at an issue that is important, that

:10:09. > :10:13.is diffuse, that is serious, you need more than 14 days. It's almost

:10:14. > :10:17.like journalism, isn't it? You spend more time digging up this story than

:10:18. > :10:32.most of us do eating up other stories. But she asks, it's not so

:10:33. > :10:36.in your face in other countries. She says she is not so sure about what

:10:37. > :10:42.gives rise to such sixes portrayal of women and girls in this country

:10:43. > :10:45.in particular. She is talking about advertising and television. Scantily

:10:46. > :10:51.clad ladies flogging cars. It happens a lot. Yes, but in other

:10:52. > :10:55.countries in Europe. France and Italy. It does not seem that much

:10:56. > :11:02.different but maybe it is in her view. Well, she's from the UN, so

:11:03. > :11:07.there you go. UKIP blocked questions over party's EU funding. As UKIP

:11:08. > :11:13.rises higher and higher in the polls, the... How shall we put this?

:11:14. > :11:19.The microscope is going to be on them friendly. This story is a

:11:20. > :11:31.follow`up to this story that the Times ran. `` the microscope is

:11:32. > :11:36.going to be on them forensically. Nigel Farage has accused the Times

:11:37. > :11:41.of being an established paper which has a vendetta to get them. But

:11:42. > :11:47.looking at this story in detail, I think that he has some serious

:11:48. > :11:54.questions to answer. He claimed between ?15,000 and ?17,000 in 2013

:11:55. > :12:00.on offices which were no bigger than 630 square feet. He did not pay any

:12:01. > :12:04.rent on those offices. That ?17,000 did not include office equipment or

:12:05. > :12:09.stationary or telephone charges. That's a lot of money to be playing

:12:10. > :12:18.in business rate, to be paying in electricity... I think that he has

:12:19. > :12:21.made a lot of MPs over the way they have misused or allegedly misused

:12:22. > :12:28.expenses, so when anyone questions his expenses, surely it is in his

:12:29. > :12:31.interests to explain it and show the receipts rather than say this is a

:12:32. > :12:36.political attack and everyone is out to get him. This story is serious

:12:37. > :12:42.enough for him to answer these questions will top first, he says he

:12:43. > :12:47.has done nothing wrong and is willing to have an independent

:12:48. > :12:52.auditor coming in. He also says he is consulting his lawyers. And that

:12:53. > :12:59.is always an interesting phrase. Interestingly, the point Oliver

:13:00. > :13:06.razors, he does talk about this conspiracy from the established

:13:07. > :13:13.media. `` Oliver razors. It sounds like Sarah Palin, when the lightest

:13:14. > :13:18.scrutiny was on her, and appealing to those people who do the

:13:19. > :13:22.potentially a new and fresh candidate coming out of the blue and

:13:23. > :13:28.upsetting the Apple cart. It is a tactic that some people might

:13:29. > :13:33.actually find appealing. Yes, but there is more to this story, which

:13:34. > :13:36.is that people have gone on the record as saying that when they

:13:37. > :13:42.tried to raise this question about these figures not adding up, they

:13:43. > :13:50.were blocked. UKIP blocking questions over party's EU funding.

:13:51. > :13:53.Yes, I think Oliver is right. Fine, let's bring in the accountants and

:13:54. > :13:59.have some transparent he and see where the money went. Now, very

:14:00. > :14:06.briefly, North Korea fails to smile at jokes. A barbershop that poked

:14:07. > :14:13.fun at the North Korean leader's haircuts. LAUGHTER. Is it poking fun

:14:14. > :14:20.or saying he has a great haircut, come in and have it done? This is

:14:21. > :14:30.great fun. This is a small hairdressing salon in Ealing, I

:14:31. > :14:42.believe, who put a poster on `` in their window of Kim Jong Un. And he

:14:43. > :14:48.has quite a nice haircut, in fact. And the men in Black came in when

:14:49. > :14:54.they saw it. Possibly, that level of responsibility is so ingrained that

:14:55. > :14:58.they thought... I cannot help but feel that if this had been in North

:14:59. > :15:06.Korea, it would not just have been a couple of men coming in. It's a bit

:15:07. > :15:21.of fun. Thank you for coming in. Sportsday is next.
