:00:00. > :00:00.And coming up after the papers, the Film Review takes a look at Piers
:00:00. > :00:14.Brosnan and Emma Thompson's new film, The Love Punch.
:00:15. > :00:20.Hello, and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be bringing
:00:21. > :00:21.us tomorrow. With me are the barrister Sophia Cannon, and Tim
:00:22. > :00:30.Montgomerie from The Times. The Financial Times claims that
:00:31. > :00:35.Barclays is poised to announce it is to pull out of parts of its
:00:36. > :00:39.commodity business. The paper says an announcement is due later in the
:00:40. > :00:42.week. The Daily Telegraph features the new portrait of the Queen taken
:00:43. > :00:47.by David Bailey and released to celebrate her 88th birthday
:00:48. > :00:50.tomorrow. The paper leads on a letter which 55 public figures have
:00:51. > :00:52.signed which accuses David Cameron of fostering alienation by his
:00:53. > :00:59.insistence that Britain is still a Christian country. A striking
:01:00. > :01:03.picture of the Pope graces the cover of the Guardian, greeting crowds
:01:04. > :01:06.after his Easter mass. The paper also reports on how the shootout at
:01:07. > :01:10.a Ukrainian checkpoint is threatening the Geneva peace deal.
:01:11. > :01:13.The Independent highlights a report which it says shows teachers are
:01:14. > :01:19.facing an increasing amount of online abuse by pupils. The Times
:01:20. > :01:22.says the Chancellor may soon find some room for tax cuts, according to
:01:23. > :01:28.some latest research on consumer spending. The Mail reports on the
:01:29. > :01:35.rise in skin cancer cases since the 1970's being blamed on more holidays
:01:36. > :01:40.taken abroad. The Express highlights the improving survival rates for
:01:41. > :01:44.people with skin cancer. And the Sun reports on how the graves of some
:01:45. > :01:45.World War One heroes have become neglected because they are not being
:01:46. > :02:03.officially maintained. Let's begin with the Daily
:02:04. > :02:05.Telegraph. That headline, which is not in any of the other papers,
:02:06. > :02:10.David Cameron divides Britain over faith. This letter, signed by 55
:02:11. > :02:17.prominent people, was saying that he is at risk of alienating people. I
:02:18. > :02:24.think this is nonsense. If David Cameron or the PM was a Muslim, and
:02:25. > :02:29.it talked about his Islamic faith, then people would not have dared
:02:30. > :02:32.criticise him for saying that. If he was an atheist and talked about
:02:33. > :02:36.that, people would say it was great that he had the courage to do this.
:02:37. > :02:39.All he is doing, is he is a man who has been deeply comforted by his
:02:40. > :02:46.religious faith over the last few years, particularly after the death
:02:47. > :02:48.of his son. He is talking about his fate, and they think it is
:02:49. > :02:52.regrettable that people are trying to shut him down for saying this. He
:02:53. > :02:54.is not in any way trying to stop other people from different faith
:02:55. > :02:57.traditions having their say, playing their full part in British public
:02:58. > :03:03.life, and they think what we have here is some people who quite enjoy
:03:04. > :03:13.taking offence doing exactly that. You think it is Christian bashing? I
:03:14. > :03:20.think he is trying to alienate Ukip. He has alienate some people by not
:03:21. > :03:27.allowing `` by allowing gay marriage, and that has pushed some
:03:28. > :03:31.people to Ukip. We always knew that David Cameron, and Tony Blair, who
:03:32. > :03:37.couldn't wait to convert to Catholicism, have been prime
:03:38. > :03:42.ministers of faith. Coming out at this time, at this stage, saying it,
:03:43. > :03:47.it is a political move. I see him as someone who spends far to much time
:03:48. > :03:52.following politics, and he has given a number of Easter messages. That is
:03:53. > :03:59.including before the gay marriage issue. Perhaps people are paying
:04:00. > :04:02.more attention to what he says now, because it is before the general
:04:03. > :04:07.election, but he is not saying anything very new from things he
:04:08. > :04:17.said last time. I want my PM legislating, not proselytising. The
:04:18. > :04:23.article says, we respect the fate of the PM, but we wish to object to the
:04:24. > :04:27.repeated characterisation of our country as a Christian country, and
:04:28. > :04:33.the negative consequences for our politics and society that this view
:04:34. > :04:36.engenders. I think they are wrong, this is a Christian country. Through
:04:37. > :04:39.a quirk of our political system, we have an established church and state
:04:40. > :04:44.and they are linked together. In this we are going to have them
:04:45. > :04:50.disestablished, this is a Christian country and we have to support that
:04:51. > :04:55.in any way, shape or form. We have this idea that our church and state
:04:56. > :04:58.are knitted together. And think what is great about our country, is that
:04:59. > :05:04.you can send your child to a Christian, was long, Jewish school,
:05:05. > :05:08.a school with no religious background. Anyone of any religion
:05:09. > :05:13.can serve in the House of Representatives. We are one of the
:05:14. > :05:25.most tolerant societies, and what these people try to do is that ``
:05:26. > :05:30.they tried to say that you can have any faith except Christianity. We
:05:31. > :05:33.will move on, it is thought the French President has information
:05:34. > :05:44.that points to the fact that Bashar al`Assad has continued to use
:05:45. > :05:47.chemical weapons. I think 2014 will go down as the year of the
:05:48. > :05:56.dictator, and also the year of people in the West doing nothing.
:05:57. > :06:02.But we have proof? What is that? If we believe that Bashar al`Assad is
:06:03. > :06:10.using chemical weapons and killing his people, we should have stepped
:06:11. > :06:16.in in March. It wouldn't stand up in a court of law, to think that. Sigh
:06:17. > :06:22.and there is more than a whiff, isn't that? We know that chemical
:06:23. > :06:28.weapons were used in the civil war. Bashar al`Assad's troops possessed
:06:29. > :06:35.those weapons, even if he didn't use them himself he was responsible for
:06:36. > :06:39.their safety. At that time, remember Barack Obama saying that it is a red
:06:40. > :06:45.line and if it is crossed we will take action, President Putin the
:06:46. > :06:49.main sponsor, he looked into Obama's eyes and said, these people
:06:50. > :06:55.don't mean what they say and I will take advantage of that. You are
:06:56. > :07:02.agreeing wholeheartedly with that? Wholeheartedly. It is a slippery
:07:03. > :07:08.slope on where we go. Staying with Syria and Ukraine, look at the
:07:09. > :07:12.Financial Times. The picture on the back of the pope informal downs the
:07:13. > :07:19.Vatican, with Easter Sunday being a major highlight of the Christian
:07:20. > :07:30.calendar. The Pope leading prayers for peace in Syria and Ukraine. The
:07:31. > :07:36.Pope is doing more than the EU and the West by saying, pull your finger
:07:37. > :07:39.out and get this done. In Ukraine, it is an orthodox question country,
:07:40. > :07:44.and it should hopefully listen to this pontiff. I know they have their
:07:45. > :07:48.own pontiff, but there is the idea that this Pope is saying more about
:07:49. > :07:55.world peace than the UN and the EU at the moment. I think one of the
:07:56. > :08:00.things is, other Christian leaders notice as well, this is an age of
:08:01. > :08:03.extraordinary Christian persecution. The wars and conflicts that we are
:08:04. > :08:07.seeing in the Middle East mean that the Christian populations of that
:08:08. > :08:10.region, who once lived quite peacefully in coexistence with
:08:11. > :08:16.Muslims and other people, are being driven out of the region. Syria was
:08:17. > :08:22.a place were particularly Christian worship was free. Now, Christians
:08:23. > :08:27.are very embattled as they are in Iraq and Egypt and other places, and
:08:28. > :08:30.a pink one of the reasons why the Pope is so clear and anxious about
:08:31. > :08:41.this decision, is that he is here from the frontline about her serious
:08:42. > :08:53.the situation is. A charming picture on the Guardian. This shows why this
:08:54. > :09:02.Pope is so popular. He must be up there with Justin Bieber, the Queen,
:09:03. > :09:11.Kim Kardashian... He is well`known, he is well and well liked. Not very
:09:12. > :09:13.often you say that about a Pope. The main stories about Ukraine and the
:09:14. > :09:19.shootout we have been reporting on that Sloviansk. The Ukrainian crisis
:09:20. > :09:25.is showing all the signs of hitting the wrong way. We had a little bit
:09:26. > :09:29.of hope last week when we have those breakthrough talks between America,
:09:30. > :09:35.Europe and Ukraine, but the trouble is now that you have so much
:09:36. > :09:40.intermingling of these little green men, basically Russian troops that a
:09:41. > :09:43.well`equipped but don't have the insignia of the official Russian
:09:44. > :09:49.army, with Ukrainian paramilitaries, Ukrainian army, and there is no one
:09:50. > :09:55.really in control any more. Of course there is! Vladimir Putin is
:09:56. > :10:02.in control! He has been in control from the start. And the West has sat
:10:03. > :10:06.on air like an old man trying to satisfy his wife, sitting at the
:10:07. > :10:13.front door with a half cocked gun while Vladimir Putin is sneaking up
:10:14. > :10:17.the drainpipe. It is that clear. We can't do anything unless we want to
:10:18. > :10:27.do something, and we are not, we are impotent. Back to the UK, we are
:10:28. > :10:30.going to look at the Daily Mail. A huge rise in skin cancer cases since
:10:31. > :10:37.the 1970s, claimed on Sunshine getaways. Everybody remembers the
:10:38. > :11:00.carry on film where they are all going off to Costa Del Sol. Appears
:11:01. > :11:07.that it is the, the Costa Del Kill. There has been an increase... If you
:11:08. > :11:12.look onto the Daily Express, a very different story. They must wonder
:11:13. > :11:20.who has got the story right, because that is the success in war on skin
:11:21. > :11:25.cancer. Because eight in ten people survive, and it is the most common
:11:26. > :11:30.cancer in the UK, it is survivable if it is recognisable. You have to
:11:31. > :11:33.check your skin, and you have to make sure when you go on holiday
:11:34. > :11:37.that you don't burn, and that you do cover`up. As brown as IM, I myself
:11:38. > :11:43.got burnt, and I have children who are mixed race, and you have to be
:11:44. > :11:46.so careful. One person who appears to have very good scheme would be
:11:47. > :11:54.Her Majesty, and distorted for her 80th birthday tomorrow, taken by
:11:55. > :11:59.David Bailey. It is a beautiful picture, one of the most attractive
:12:00. > :12:02.features of anybody's face is always there smile, and here is a beautiful
:12:03. > :12:16.smile from the Queen. It has taken Her Majesty for the front page, and
:12:17. > :12:25.not Kate! It shows our monarch in her prime, she looks beautiful for
:12:26. > :12:34.her age, and 88! Charles must be thinking, 20 more years! She looks
:12:35. > :12:39.fantastic. He would be taking the throne any time soon. No, not from
:12:40. > :12:46.that picture. Thank you for your time. Stay with us on BBC News,
:12:47. > :12:49.because at midnight we will have the latest on the ferry disaster in
:12:50. > :12:54.South Korea, as transcripts are released of the moment he ferry
:12:55. > :13:01.started to sink. Up next, The Film Review.
