:00:00. > :00:00.for failing to meet UEFA's rules. That's all coming up in around 15

:00:00. > :00:16.minutes. Hello, and welcome to our look ahead

:00:17. > :00:18.to what the the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. With me are

:00:19. > :00:24.Emily Ashton, Whitehall correspondent for The Sun. And

:00:25. > :00:28.freelance journalist Eva Simpson. Let's look at the front page is now

:00:29. > :00:31.starting with the tragic death of that teacher Anne Maguire. It on the

:00:32. > :00:36.front page of the Independent. She was stabbed to death in front of

:00:37. > :00:40.pupils in Leeds. That story is also on the front page of the Metro. It's

:00:41. > :00:45.also leading with Max Clifford's convictions for indecent assault.

:00:46. > :00:53.The financial Times goes with the ?60 billion takeover bid made by

:00:54. > :00:59.AstraZeneca. The Daily Telegraph, another paper leading with the

:01:00. > :01:03.killing of the teacher in Leeds, Anne Maguire. The paper says she was

:01:04. > :01:05.seen as the figurehead of Corpus Christi Catholic College. The Daily

:01:06. > :01:11.Express also believes that teacher's death, reporting that Mrs

:01:12. > :01:18.Maguire was in their final term before taking retirement. The

:01:19. > :01:23.Guardian claims a cross`party claim to brand UKIP as racist is to be

:01:24. > :01:26.launched this week. We will start with the Independent. Death in the

:01:27. > :01:31.classroom is a front page of the Independent. It's been the story

:01:32. > :01:39.leading the bulletins all day. Absolutely appalling story. It's

:01:40. > :01:43.unbelievable. It's the first time we believe a teacher has actually been

:01:44. > :01:46.murdered in a classroom. People will remember the headteacher Philip

:01:47. > :01:50.Lawrence was murdered outside a school in London but this was

:01:51. > :01:53.outside the school gates. He had gone to the aid of a pupil being

:01:54. > :02:00.attacked. This was actually inside the classroom where this young

:02:01. > :02:04.15`year`old boy, who is in custody, is believed to have stabbed this

:02:05. > :02:09.teacher and everyone spoken about her such glowing terms. It's

:02:10. > :02:12.interesting to note that in the Independent, they got some research

:02:13. > :02:18.which shows that figures show nearly 1000 students were caught with

:02:19. > :02:26.lethal weapons such as guns and knives, axes and hammers, between

:02:27. > :02:32.2011`13. I mean, as appalling as this is, actually, what we don't

:02:33. > :02:35.hear about is that there is a lot of violence, a lot of that going on in

:02:36. > :02:42.the classrooms which goes under the radar. Why are we not hearing all

:02:43. > :02:47.about? I think there are these figures about pupils bringing in

:02:48. > :02:52.these weapons into schools. But I think you know, a lot of the focus

:02:53. > :02:55.has been on gang violence, and pupils attacking each other. When

:02:56. > :03:01.you think back to Philip Lawrence, when he was murdered outside that

:03:02. > :03:03.school in London in 1995, it was, that was a very different

:03:04. > :03:09.situation. He was breaking up a fight. He was stabbed through the

:03:10. > :03:16.heart by one of these gang members. This was a pupil, 15`year`old boy,

:03:17. > :03:22.who turned on a teacher. In front of a classroom. How would you ever get

:03:23. > :03:28.over that? As a child, how would you even get over that? There's more

:03:29. > :03:35.detail emerging about the boy in custody. He's meant to be a very

:03:36. > :03:40.bright boy, very gifted, predicted that top grades at GCSE. A very

:03:41. > :03:45.talented artist. Obviously more will emerge as to what the motives behind

:03:46. > :03:49.this attack was, but it's still fresh in everyone's minds, very

:03:50. > :03:54.chilling. Shocking. Emily, is going to be a concerted debate, do you

:03:55. > :03:58.think, now, looking at whether or not kids should be searched before

:03:59. > :04:03.they go into schools? We know there this anecdotal evidence of kids in

:04:04. > :04:07.inner`city city areas of London wearing stab vests going to school.

:04:08. > :04:16.In America, they have metal detectors and so on. I'm sure the

:04:17. > :04:19.debate will reopen, but I think the reports addressing tonight about

:04:20. > :04:26.this particular incident... It seems isolated. I have no doubt this

:04:27. > :04:31.debate will be reopened. As appalling as it is, I don't think we

:04:32. > :04:37.need to start introducing metal detectors and all that sort of thing

:04:38. > :04:44.for every teacher. I think it's very premature. The Daily Telegraph, the

:04:45. > :04:50.teacher on the front. She was actually in her final year as a

:04:51. > :04:57.teacher. She'd been doing it for 40 years, celebrated 40 years on the

:04:58. > :05:03.job, job she loved. She had been at the school since she left

:05:04. > :05:07.university. You know, this is obviously a teacher who was widely

:05:08. > :05:10.respected, and well loved by many of her former pupils. People were

:05:11. > :05:15.travelling to put flowers down there for her. I think she was due to

:05:16. > :05:20.retire this summer, as well, which makes it all the more poignant and

:05:21. > :05:26.very, very sad indeed. Staying the Daily Telegraph, a tipping point for

:05:27. > :05:34.cancer as half of patients are now killed. This is a landmark new

:05:35. > :05:36.research showing half of patients diagnosed with cancer today will be

:05:37. > :05:42.effectively killed. That means that they will be diagnosed to expect to

:05:43. > :05:47.survive for at least ten years, by which point their prognosis is as

:05:48. > :05:51.good as those without the disease 40 years ago less than one quarter

:05:52. > :05:59.would have survived. Researchers are saying... It's good news. Yes,

:06:00. > :06:03.cancer should no longer be seen as death sentence but just a chronic

:06:04. > :06:08.condition. That's incredible. We've all been touched by cancer. Before

:06:09. > :06:13.lost loved ones through cancer, so the fact that 50% of us, people who

:06:14. > :06:17.get cancer, could be jewelled, it's incredible. We have seen the recent

:06:18. > :06:24.government campaign, haven't we, where the emphasis is on trying to

:06:25. > :06:28.get at cancers as early as possible, so watching for the

:06:29. > :06:33.possible signs. That's the kind of thing we are looking at. Absolutely,

:06:34. > :06:39.but this development and research going on all the time, these new

:06:40. > :06:42.drugs being developed, to help, as you say, people are learning to

:06:43. > :06:47.diagnose for themselves when things are wrong. There's some great

:06:48. > :06:54.statistics which saved women with breast cancer now have a 78%

:06:55. > :06:59.survival rate. And also ten years ago, men diagnosed with prostate

:07:00. > :07:07.cancer only had a 25% survival rate and now it's as high as 80%.

:07:08. > :07:12.Incredible. Let's go to the metro. Victims join as Max Clifford found

:07:13. > :07:16.guilty. He assaulted girls as young as 15. These were for historic

:07:17. > :07:25.offences. He was found guilty of eight of the charges. I believe he

:07:26. > :07:32.will be sentenced on Friday. You know, he is the first sort of guilty

:07:33. > :07:36.verdict under Operation Yewtree. I think it will come as some relief to

:07:37. > :07:41.the police and the CPS, who have come in for a lot of criticism

:07:42. > :07:44.bringing these historic cases forward and prosecuting them, so I

:07:45. > :07:50.think that's all a relief to the CPS and to the police. Also to the

:07:51. > :07:56.victims. They had said their faith in the justice system has been

:07:57. > :07:59.restored. This cannot be an easy process for anyone involved. No one

:08:00. > :08:05.wins at the end of the day, even if he was no guilty. There is no

:08:06. > :08:13.winners. It's good they can feel justice has finally been done.

:08:14. > :08:22.Briefly, you were a 3am girl on the sun for the showbiz columnist. The

:08:23. > :08:24.Daily Mirror. No one could have been in the entertainment business and

:08:25. > :08:33.not come across Max Clifford. You would've come across him. He dealt

:08:34. > :08:39.with all the tabloid editors. He was the king of kiss and tell is, the

:08:40. > :08:41.guy who was sort of providing some of the biggest showbiz scoops, the

:08:42. > :08:49.biggest newspaper scoops for decades. Yes, he was hired by many

:08:50. > :08:53.people more to keep their secrets out of the papers than in them, but

:08:54. > :09:01.according to the Sun newspaper which we haven't got it, they say Simon

:09:02. > :09:09.Cowell has been the first person to find him. I'm sure it will follow.

:09:10. > :09:15.The problem the CPS has had with Operation Yewtree which were set up

:09:16. > :09:19.after the Jimmy Savile claims, these claims go back decades. It's very,

:09:20. > :09:24.very difficult for a jury to make a decision. This was the eighth day of

:09:25. > :09:28.deliberations. I'm not many people expected to come back with a guilty

:09:29. > :09:34.verdict today. These are very, very difficult cases and we have seen

:09:35. > :09:41.similar cases which are not part of Operation Yewtree, Michael Le Vell,

:09:42. > :09:46.Bill Roache cleared. The CPS, the police will be grateful that this

:09:47. > :09:49.has happened because it kind of shows it is worthy to take forward

:09:50. > :09:54.these prosecutions and listen to these complaints because it can

:09:55. > :10:02.work. They will feel justified with us. Onto the financial Times. The US

:10:03. > :10:05.steps up pressure on President Putin's in circle with tougher

:10:06. > :10:12.sanctions but the Americans have pointed out this is not an attack on

:10:13. > :10:16.Vladimir Putin himself. The US has toughened sanctions by targeting

:10:17. > :10:21.several officials, several companies linked to oligarchs because they

:10:22. > :10:25.want to tie up the money. There's a lot of oligarchs close to Putin.

:10:26. > :10:29.They hope to have influence in persuading him to back off eastern

:10:30. > :10:32.Ukraine, because there has been talk of his sending in people under

:10:33. > :10:38.cover, even though he says nothing to do with us. They just happen to

:10:39. > :10:42.be pro`Russian separatists. The West doesn't believe that for a minute.

:10:43. > :10:48.But the Deputy Prime Minister has been added to this sanctions list.

:10:49. > :10:52.Vladimir Putin is not on this list, which involves travel bans, asset

:10:53. > :10:58.freezes. The reason for that is because they want Putin to get

:10:59. > :11:02.involved in diplomacy. Can't cut him off completely. They need him to

:11:03. > :11:09.move around. If you slap on a travel ban, he can't get involved in talks.

:11:10. > :11:16.You have to hope that diplomacy doesn't work what are `` what have

:11:17. > :11:22.you to hope is that diplomacy works. One credit rating agency has already

:11:23. > :11:26.suggested that Russia's credit worthiness is pretty near junk

:11:27. > :11:31.status at the moment. Which is a knock`on effect across Europe and in

:11:32. > :11:35.the UK in. America, they're a bit more removed from it. They're

:11:36. > :11:39.further away. This is point as well, the US steps up the pressure on

:11:40. > :11:44.Putin. The sanctions are heavier than the EU. The EU have been

:11:45. > :11:48.cautious, adding names to the list, always warning that there might be

:11:49. > :11:51.big economic sanction as head but never quite moving to it. That's

:11:52. > :11:55.because Europe is next door to Russia and they're dead nervous.

:11:56. > :11:58.You're going to be back in an hour to look at the stories behind the

:11:59. > :12:02.headlines, many thanks for that. Stay with us here on BBC News. At

:12:03. > :12:05.the top of the hour, we will have the very latest from Leeds on the

:12:06. > :12:08.death this afternoon 61`year`old teacher, stabbed by a pupil at her

:12:09. > :12:25.school. Now, it's time for Sportsday.

:12:26. > :12:31.Hello, welcome to Sportsday. Here's what's on the way tonight: Arsenal

:12:32. > :12:37.seize control of fourth in the race for Champions League football next

:12:38. > :12:44.season. Footballers go bananas in support of Barcelona's Dani Alves.

:12:45. > :12:47.Despite missing a record century of centuries, world number one Neil

:12:48. > :12:49.Robertson makes the quarter finals
