:00:00. > :00:00.The England team arrive at the stadium for their World Cup clash.
:00:00. > :00:18.Kick`off is in half an hour. Hello and welcome to our look ahead
:00:19. > :00:19.to what the papers will be bringing us tomorrow.
:00:20. > :00:24.With me are Oliver Brown, Chief Sports Feature Writer
:00:25. > :00:26.from the Telegraph and Kate Devlin, Political Correspondent at the
:00:27. > :00:34.Herald. Let's look at tomorrow's front pages
:00:35. > :00:37.and we will start with the Observer. That says Labour is calling for
:00:38. > :00:41.cross party talks on how religious education is conducted in the State
:00:42. > :00:46.sector as the paper highlights its own survey on the funding of Faith
:00:47. > :00:50.schools. The Independent on Sunday highlights
:00:51. > :00:54.the crisis in Iraq as Iran offers to help and the US sends an aircraft
:00:55. > :00:58.carrier to the Gulf. The Mail on Sunday says the Prime
:00:59. > :01:06.Minister, David Cameron, has issued a pledge to tackle extremism and
:01:07. > :01:10.reassert British values enshrined in the Magna Carta. The Sunday
:01:11. > :01:15.Telegraph highlights how the number of families that pay inheritance tax
:01:16. > :01:24.will rise this year. The Sunday Times has more allegations about the
:01:25. > :01:28.Qatar World Cup bid. FIFA ignored warnings about a terrorist attack
:01:29. > :01:33.closing down the event. The Sun carries a story about Mick Jagger
:01:34. > :01:38.and his alleged relationship with an American ballet dancer. Well, lets
:01:39. > :01:43.begin now. And this evening we're going to start with the Independent
:01:44. > :01:49.and the story that's been dominating our news about now, the problems in
:01:50. > :01:54.Iraq, Iran, the US, all pledging to join in and the Independent there
:01:55. > :01:59.with the headline, "Baghdad fights back." Kate. It is very interesting.
:02:00. > :02:04.Baghdad is fighting back, but also the US appears to be fighting back
:02:05. > :02:08.as well and in the Independent it points out that the US is sending an
:02:09. > :02:13.aircraft carrier to the Gulf which is a different change from Barack
:02:14. > :02:17.Obama who on Friday said to the Baghdad Government that he expected
:02:18. > :02:22.them to really show now that they could do something about this
:02:23. > :02:27.insurgency and his quote was, "We can't do it for you." Which is a
:02:28. > :02:32.very strong message to be sending and now 24 hours later, it doesn't
:02:33. > :02:38.appear as if the American president has 100% confidence that they will
:02:39. > :02:42.be able to do that. Oliver strangely bringing together two old opponents,
:02:43. > :02:49.America and Iran looking as if they might go together on this? A bit of
:02:50. > :02:57.an unholy alliance. Barack Obama wants flexibility in the options he
:02:58. > :03:03.has. He has been adamant not to send ground forces into the area. He has
:03:04. > :03:11.got the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and he has the option of sending
:03:12. > :03:21.missiles from Turkey and Qatar. Maybe we should see it as at least
:03:22. > :03:25.the Iranians are willing to co`operate. Otherwise with these
:03:26. > :03:32.forces, only 60mph from Baghdad that there would be a serious escalation
:03:33. > :03:37.otherwise. We were speaking to a London School of Economics expert.
:03:38. > :03:41.He said this was unprecedented this possible co`operation between
:03:42. > :03:46.America and Iran and it is odd that it should come about? Indeed. You
:03:47. > :03:51.have got to factor in national interests into all these things as
:03:52. > :03:55.well. Of course. Decades of antipathy and problems and they seem
:03:56. > :03:58.to be po continuationly thinking `` potentially thinking about
:03:59. > :04:02.co`operating. Let's come back to the UK and The Telegraph. I guess we
:04:03. > :04:08.should give this one to you Oliver being a Telegraph man. The headline
:04:09. > :04:13.is, "Middle`class face tax sting. " What the story is about, as property
:04:14. > :04:19.prices have gone up so many more people will find themselves paying
:04:20. > :04:25.inheritance tax. The single most remarkable part of this story the
:04:26. > :04:33.inheritance tax threshold remains as ?325 thou. In the US `` ?325 thou.
:04:34. > :04:36.The Americans don't know how lucky they are. It is the breaking of an
:04:37. > :04:40.electoral promise and George Osborne said that he would raise the
:04:41. > :04:48.threshold for inheritance tax to ?1 million. That won't change until at
:04:49. > :04:56.least 2018. But I think there are two fundamental injustices to this.
:04:57. > :05:00.The taxing of assets such as family homes bought with income taxed when
:05:01. > :05:03.it was earned in the first place and also that this gives a whole new
:05:04. > :05:09.meaning to the notion of being taxed to the end. Surely, accumulating
:05:10. > :05:12.wealth to pass on to the next generation and ensuring that one's
:05:13. > :05:18.children are, you know, are not saddled with this kind of tax burden
:05:19. > :05:24.is a fairly natural human instinct. Kate, there would be a lot of people
:05:25. > :05:29.arguing hang on ?325,000 for a couple is a lot of money and if you
:05:30. > :05:34.have got that much money, you should have to pay something on it? One of
:05:35. > :05:37.the repercussions, why this is happening is because of the
:05:38. > :05:41.increases that we have seen in the London property market and if a lot
:05:42. > :05:44.more people are being left more money by their parents, I wonder
:05:45. > :05:47.what that would do to the London property market. This money does
:05:48. > :05:53.need to come back into the system. It is complicated how you want to do
:05:54. > :05:56.that. But I do think we are in an election year and it would be very
:05:57. > :05:59.trog to see where this `` interesting to see where this goes.
:06:00. > :06:03.It would put more pressure on David Cameron and in March he was tackled
:06:04. > :06:08.on this issue by a pensioner and he said that inheritance tax should
:06:09. > :06:12.only be paid for by the rich. Are you suggesting this is bait offered
:06:13. > :06:18.before the general election? I think the parties will be looking at these
:06:19. > :06:27.issues. OK. In the past the Liberal Democrats have signalled that ` they
:06:28. > :06:33.talked about a mansion tax. This is a tax that the Conservatives talked
:06:34. > :06:35.about. That was the stumbling block 325,000 remained so because the
:06:36. > :06:40.Liberal Democrats blocked any move favoured by Osborne to shift it to
:06:41. > :06:44.?1 million so we can blame them for this burden for the next four years.
:06:45. > :06:48.They haven't really, I mean in all the years of coalition, they haven't
:06:49. > :06:52.really managed to convince more people about this mansion tax idea
:06:53. > :06:59.is a good one. It has problems because people would be potentially
:07:00. > :07:04.property rich, but cash poor. And if you are taxed on a large lump sum
:07:05. > :07:08.and you live in London for instance where property prices has gone crazy
:07:09. > :07:12.that if it goes down to your children they too have got to pay
:07:13. > :07:15.the high prices in order to afford a property. It is a double`edged sword
:07:16. > :07:24.and one that's difficult for anyone to square the circle. On to the The
:07:25. > :07:29.Daily Mail. Sorry on to the Observer next because it links in with a
:07:30. > :07:36.story about the Mail. On The Observer, headline, "Taxpayers' cash
:07:37. > :07:40.should not be used to fund Faith schools, say voters." This is that
:07:41. > :07:44.they have done this survey and it shows clearly that actually people
:07:45. > :07:48.are anti`funding these sorts of schools? Absolutely. It shows a
:07:49. > :07:54.clear majority who think that public money should not be used, but it
:07:55. > :07:59.shows 60% who think the schools promote division and segregation and
:08:00. > :08:04.I'm probably a little bit surprised at how high these poll numbers are
:08:05. > :08:10.actually. I went to a faith school and I have to say I am, I do think
:08:11. > :08:14.there are problems with them. I grew up in Northern Ireland. I went to a
:08:15. > :08:18.Catholic school and I do think that part of the problems that continue
:08:19. > :08:25.in Northern Ireland are about the sectarianism. It is unfortunately
:08:26. > :08:29.and not through anybody's intention, but it is caused by being in
:08:30. > :08:32.separate schoolsful I am sure many of the schools would say the
:08:33. > :08:38.standards of exam qualifications are better than many other schools, so
:08:39. > :08:46.whether it is a faith school or not, the standard is better? Labour are
:08:47. > :08:49.keen not to antagonise parents. Mr Hunt said they represent an
:08:50. > :08:52.important part of the electoral landscape. It is striking if you
:08:53. > :09:01.take the figures in a global sense that there are 6,800 Faith schools
:09:02. > :09:04.in the UK, but only 18 of them are Muslim and I think within this
:09:05. > :09:19.Observer article the Church of England came out with a statement
:09:20. > :09:23.saying that no one could credit bly argue that that they are hot beds of
:09:24. > :09:28.extremism and you have to imagine that the majority of those schools
:09:29. > :09:35.aren't fostering those views and aren't liable to be infiltrated by
:09:36. > :09:39.extremists. This is a background to the Trojan horse story and that's
:09:40. > :09:44.why I jumped the gun. The Mail is a story that's similar, but different
:09:45. > :09:49.if that makes sense with the headline, "Cameron tells UK Muslims
:09:50. > :09:54.be more British." And what being British is about and those so`called
:09:55. > :10:03.British values that's very much up for debate. I'm uneasy about this up
:10:04. > :10:08.surge. Michael Gove said that he didn't regard it as terribly British
:10:09. > :10:14.to have this statement of British values and that seems to be exactly
:10:15. > :10:17.what David Cameron is doing. He mentioning he wants more muscular
:10:18. > :10:22.reassertion of British values pointing out that it is the 800th
:10:23. > :10:26.anniversary of Magna Carta next year, but it happens to be the year
:10:27. > :10:32.of a general election and you have to get to the penultimate paragraph
:10:33. > :10:41.of this Mail on Sunday splash to find out how he identifies these
:10:42. > :10:47.values and the acceptance of personal association social
:10:48. > :10:57.responsibility and a free press. I'm uncomfortable, we are one step away
:10:58. > :11:00.from being like the Americans. I seem to remember the last Prime
:11:01. > :11:05.Minister who thought that was Gordon Brown and it didn't do much for him.
:11:06. > :11:11.I think there is an argument to be made here that you know, there is
:11:12. > :11:15.probably something, but I do feel that it's such an uphill battle and
:11:16. > :11:20.it is interesting that they have kind of gone for this because I do
:11:21. > :11:25.think it will be a struggle to kind of convince people. The University
:11:26. > :11:31.of Manchester looked at the 2011 census and around 14% of some
:11:32. > :11:36.Britons anyway were prepared to say that they were British. It is quite,
:11:37. > :11:39.maybe it's, we are a bit under stated as British people. Maybe
:11:40. > :11:43.that's one of the values. All right. Well, of course, tonight it would be
:11:44. > :11:48.wrong not to mention the World Cup even in the press review. The first
:11:49. > :11:52.match taking place at the worst possible time for Fleet Street
:11:53. > :11:58.because all the papers have gone to press, but the Sunday Times going
:11:59. > :12:03.with the headlines, "FIFA ignored own terror alert." The Sunday Times
:12:04. > :12:07.coming out with explosive stuff about this. It is explosive. They
:12:08. > :12:13.have done superb work on this story for the last three weekends it has
:12:14. > :12:19.been a must read. What I'm slightly wary of, I don't think they have
:12:20. > :12:25.found the smoking gun, but the latest revelation is fascinating and
:12:26. > :12:29.the person in charge of the security operation at the 2010 World Cup in
:12:30. > :12:36.South Africa warned FIFA that it would be a terrorist to hold a World
:12:37. > :12:42.Cup in Qatar due to its proximity where the Al`Qaeda presence and it
:12:43. > :12:50.seemed that FIFA ignored this. There is detail about the corruption. We
:12:51. > :12:57.ought to say allegedly ignored that. We don't have the response back yet.
:12:58. > :13:04.No, but the fascinating detail about this engrained culture of corruption
:13:05. > :13:15.at FIFA. Chris Eton saying he received a wonderful watch and
:13:16. > :13:21.cufflinks from the country's ruler. Kate, trinkets? I agree they have
:13:22. > :13:27.done sterling work on this. I think I probably do wonder about the
:13:28. > :13:32.terrorist story. I just feel it is very, it is probably difficult to
:13:33. > :13:36.find any country in the world that wouldn't potentially be a terror
:13:37. > :13:44.risk when you hold this kind of event. Briefly, we have got a
:13:45. > :13:46.statement from Qatar saying that allegation that they are involved
:13:47. > :13:49.statement from Qatar saying that allegation that they are in paying
:13:50. > :13:53.officials is baseless and designed to tarnish their reputation. It goes
:13:54. > :13:58.on saying following successive weekends of headlines, officials are
:13:59. > :14:03.fighting back and they say that their mref is they are without ``
:14:04. > :14:09.belief is they are without merit. We will have more as the papers come
:14:10. > :14:14.out. Thank you very much. Of course, now just quarter of an hour before
:14:15. > :14:16.kick`off. I was going to ask your prediction for the score. We will do
:14:17. > :14:19.that in an hour's time. prediction for the score. We will do
:14:20. > :14:25.that in We will catch Kate and Oliver back at 11.30pm for another
:14:26. > :14:32.look at the store ies making the news tomorrow. Here, Iran offers to
:14:33. > :14:38.help Baghdad and Washington stop Sunni insurgents from capturing more
:14:39. > :14:41.territory inside Iraq.? Coming up next, it's Reporters.
