:00:00. > :00:00.of Germany versus Nigeria. `` Algeria. Luis Suarez has apologised

:00:00. > :00:00.to Giorgio Chiellini for biting him to stop we will tell you in 15

:00:00. > :00:13.minutes. Hello, and welcome to

:00:14. > :00:16.our look ahead to what the papers With me are Eleanor Mills,

:00:17. > :00:20.Editorial Director of The Sunday Times and Owen Jones, Columnist

:00:21. > :00:30.for The Independent and author. Let's have a look at the front

:00:31. > :00:34.pages. We will start with that police mugshot of Rolf Harris

:00:35. > :00:38.dominating the front page of the Telegraph. The entertainer was found

:00:39. > :00:43.guilty of 12 charges of indecently assaulting four girls. Metro says

:00:44. > :00:48.some of the crimes took place while he was fronting a campaign to raise

:00:49. > :00:52.awareness about child abuse. The Guardian shows a picture there of Mr

:00:53. > :00:56.Harris leaving court with his family after hearing the guilty verdicts.

:00:57. > :01:02.The express also carries that picture, that police picture of the

:01:03. > :01:08.entertainer Rolf Harris. That is also the front page of the Daily

:01:09. > :01:15.Mail. The Financial Times doing a different story. It is talking about

:01:16. > :01:20.BNP Paribas facing pay cuts for its staff after paying a fine of $9

:01:21. > :01:25.billion for breaking sanctions laws. We will start with the Daily Mail.

:01:26. > :01:30.Rolf Harris, of course, is on the front page of most of the papers.

:01:31. > :01:32.For 50 years, he was the face of wholesome only TV. Now we know the

:01:33. > :01:37.truth. Rolf Harris is a predator truth. Rolf Harris is a predator who

:01:38. > :01:45.duped us all. I grew up with him. He was a familiar face on TV. He is a

:01:46. > :01:48.criminal now. I think it is a really strange day, because with all of the

:01:49. > :01:52.Jimmy Savile staff, there was a sense it seemed a bit weird. But

:01:53. > :02:02.Rolf Harris, he was someone that keeps really loved. I remember Have

:02:03. > :02:06.You Guessed What It Is Yet? I think everybody feels horrendous for the

:02:07. > :02:09.victims. I think everybody feels a sense of eight told about Rolf

:02:10. > :02:16.Harris, and details are really gritty. He has been found guilty of

:02:17. > :02:23.all 12 counts. The Telegraph as saying there are 13 more people have

:02:24. > :02:32.already cold in. There may be 37 more people who have come forward.

:02:33. > :02:36.There was this awful film of him singing a song about sexual abuse of

:02:37. > :02:41.children which he fronted in 1985, and that is such a brazen either

:02:42. > :02:47.hiding in plain sight or a kind of really weird omnipotence split

:02:48. > :02:54.personality thing going on. I think it is awful. There was his wife and

:02:55. > :02:57.daughter at the trial. The fact he was abusing these children while his

:02:58. > :03:02.daughter was sleeping, that must be awful for his family. One of his

:03:03. > :03:07.victims, that was the evidence brought before the jury. The fact

:03:08. > :03:12.is, he probably reached the point, and this seemed to be what came out

:03:13. > :03:16.of the prosecution segment today, it was almost as if he was getting away

:03:17. > :03:20.with it for so long, he believed he could continue getting away with it

:03:21. > :03:25.until the end of time. He was above the law. That is the parallel with

:03:26. > :03:28.the likes of Jimmy Savile. That sense of being untouchable and using

:03:29. > :03:32.their celebrity not just in order to gain access to people who they

:03:33. > :03:37.horrifically abused but also to protect themselves from justice.

:03:38. > :03:45.We're talking about victims as young as... Seven. The other disturbing

:03:46. > :03:48.parallel is the use of his daughter almost to gain access to their

:03:49. > :03:54.friends and molesting a friend in front of the daughter. The key point

:03:55. > :03:59.in one of the clips you show before, this should encourage others to come

:04:00. > :04:05.forward. No matter how influential all`powerful or well`respected, and

:04:06. > :04:10.we all talk about how this man we do in his childhood. It was worth with

:04:11. > :04:16.Jimmy Savile because he was so widely suspected, yet nothing was

:04:17. > :04:21.done. `` it was worse. We know every year, 400,000 women are sexually

:04:22. > :04:25.assaulted. 80,000 direct. A small proportion of those ever come to

:04:26. > :04:32.trial and come to justice. If any good comes out of this, this will

:04:33. > :04:36.encourage other people to come forward and be believed to be able

:04:37. > :04:43.to have the confidence to be supported as well. This is a day

:04:44. > :04:49.of... We were looking before it victim of one of the victims. It is

:04:50. > :04:54.young age to be abused like that. It will have a lasting damaging effect

:04:55. > :04:58.on those people. They are survivors. They have survived a terrible

:04:59. > :05:01.incident, but this is such an important day for them because it is

:05:02. > :05:04.finding justice after feeling ignored and powerless at the hands

:05:05. > :05:11.of this celebrity who got away with it. Long. One of his victims said

:05:12. > :05:17.she contemplated suicide. Let's move the Guardian. National treasure,

:05:18. > :05:24.paedophile, Harris. A reference to his place in society for up to 50

:05:25. > :05:30.years. He was a national treasure. He even painted the Queen. He had an

:05:31. > :05:37.OBE. They said they would take away the fellowship. Also it looks like

:05:38. > :05:42.he wait `` he may well die in jail. Papers are saying that it will be a

:05:43. > :05:46.custodial sentence and a long one. It looks as though maybe there are

:05:47. > :05:50.others as well. Going on to the point you were talking about about

:05:51. > :05:54.this giving a voice to those victims who felt they did not have a voice

:05:55. > :05:58.for such a long time, I was speaking to the former Director of Public

:05:59. > :06:03.Prosecutions Keir Starmer who was saying this vindicates the notion in

:06:04. > :06:10.our criminal justice system that suspects are named in these kinds of

:06:11. > :06:16.trials. Even before a guilty verdict. People do come forward.

:06:17. > :06:22.They knew was Rolf Harris. It is a key point to make. Before 1988, it

:06:23. > :06:25.was anonymity for both sides. Margaret Thatcher APPLAUSE

:06:26. > :06:30.Government, it was right for the government to change the law.

:06:31. > :06:32.`` Margaret Thatcher APPLAUSE Government.

:06:33. > :06:38.There are all of these false accusations. People in a sense are

:06:39. > :06:42.the victims who are wrongly named. The real issue we have at the moment

:06:43. > :06:47.is that most victims, most survivors of sexual assault or rape, to come

:06:48. > :06:52.forward, don't end up justice, don't end up with those responsible being

:06:53. > :06:55.taken to justice, and they are likely to do it again. We have this

:06:56. > :06:59.sense of this was all in the past. Things are different then. White dig

:07:00. > :07:04.into the past like this? But also that sense that all of these people

:07:05. > :07:11.have been wrongly dragged to the courts. `` white dig into the past?

:07:12. > :07:13.Seven people have finally got justice after being too long

:07:14. > :07:18.protected because of their status. It should encourage all of those

:07:19. > :07:24.hoping to come forward. Very briefly, a final word on this. Dave

:07:25. > :07:29.Lee Travis found innocent of the charges. Freddie Starr as well.

:07:30. > :07:36.There is this, and Keir Starmer pointed to this, there is a balance.

:07:37. > :07:40.You have to look at the evidence. William Roache also got off. What

:07:41. > :07:45.this shows is that the justices and does work. There was a lot of chat

:07:46. > :07:48.beforehand that these cases were too historical. You could try them

:07:49. > :07:53.because they were so long ago. What has been so compelling about Rolf

:07:54. > :07:58.Harris's is that people have been saying the same thing. Same with Max

:07:59. > :08:02.Clifford. What has been proved is that you absolutely can try this

:08:03. > :08:06.case is fairly, and the ones where they are not fair, they won't work.

:08:07. > :08:10.There is a sense that justice is being done and seen to be done and

:08:11. > :08:13.that has to be a good thing for the victims, and no one should ever feel

:08:14. > :08:17.they are above the law and will get away with it again. Let's hope not.

:08:18. > :08:23.We will stay with the Guardian. We will go down to the bottom of the

:08:24. > :08:25.front page. Israel says Hamas will pay for teenagers, those three

:08:26. > :08:32.teenagers who have been found dead in Hebron. One cabinet member is

:08:33. > :08:37.saying tonight that they should be a widespread operation to eradicate

:08:38. > :08:40.Hamas. These are horrific criminal acts. Let's remember these three

:08:41. > :08:54.names, because what happens now, they will be forgotten. Nothing will

:08:55. > :08:57.ever be able to repair the horrific grief and misery that their parents

:08:58. > :09:00.are now going through. These are crimes no one should underestimate

:09:01. > :09:06.or downplay what has happened to these people. At the same time, five

:09:07. > :09:10.Palestinians were also killed following the disappearances of

:09:11. > :09:13.these teenagers. These were five Palestinians in the West Bank, and

:09:14. > :09:17.others have been killed in air strikes in the Gaza Strip. These

:09:18. > :09:22.also horrors and miserable tragedies which have ripped families apart.

:09:23. > :09:27.The key point is this. These are treated as criminal acts, and

:09:28. > :09:33.justice, these people responsible, they have to be brought to justice.

:09:34. > :09:37.They cannot have corrective punishment and responsibility

:09:38. > :09:42.whereby other people as a result of another operation, well, this is

:09:43. > :09:46.early happens because innocent have been killed, but we do know want a

:09:47. > :09:54.disproportionate attack where many people on both sides die, and that

:09:55. > :09:59.is the data at the moment. `` that is the danger at the moment. They

:10:00. > :10:04.would argue to retaliate in some shape or form. But that will be

:10:05. > :10:11.complicated. It is not as Hamas they are dealing with, but the more

:10:12. > :10:13.moderate Fatah faction. As we know, Israel is an absolute pressure

:10:14. > :10:18.cooker of all sorts of problems. What happened to these lawyers is

:10:19. > :10:24.awful. They were coming back from their religious school. But what is

:10:25. > :10:29.really terrifying is the prospect it raises of even more widespread

:10:30. > :10:35.violence within Israel. The occupied territories are a source of

:10:36. > :10:38.contention anyway. The fact that the president is blaming Hamas for the

:10:39. > :10:45.murders and saying they will pay a heavy price, Hamas will pay, and the

:10:46. > :10:51.economic ministers saying now is the time to act. The Times tomorrow is

:10:52. > :10:54.saying there will be more shelling and military aides in Israel, and

:10:55. > :10:58.the last thing anyone wants there is more bloodshed. It is terrible but

:10:59. > :11:04.these poor kids were murdered, and that is awful. Whoever did it should

:11:05. > :11:09.pay. It is the prospect of another mighty congregation `` conflagration

:11:10. > :11:16.in that area. Given what is happening in Syria, we have had the

:11:17. > :11:23.insurgents and outing themselves today. Life is a life. A death is a

:11:24. > :11:29.death. A tragedy is a tragedy. We have had five Palestinians killed in

:11:30. > :11:33.the West Bank in retaliatory raids following the disappearance of these

:11:34. > :11:40.teenagers who have been so terribly and tragically killed. That ran

:11:41. > :11:45.setup. We have had other incidents with deaths on both sides, but let's

:11:46. > :11:47.make sure now that we do not have a situation where there is a huge

:11:48. > :12:03.escalation and collective punishment is dealt out.

:12:04. > :12:10.considering their options. Suarez, it was an accident, I am a little

:12:11. > :12:20.bit sorry! He originally said he fell into the sky, just happening to

:12:21. > :12:23.hit his shoulder blades. I am a mother of two kids, and you know

:12:24. > :12:27.they have done something wrong, and they say they did not do it. The

:12:28. > :12:36.whole world saw him do it, finally he said he had a few days to go

:12:37. > :12:50.home, talk to his parents. We have all fallen over, and clamped down. A

:12:51. > :12:57.zombie epidemic. You will be back in one hour's time, little bit shorter,

:12:58. > :13:03.actually. Thank you for that. Stay with us, much more coming up at the

:13:04. > :13:09.top of the hour. Including more fallout from that decision that Rolf

:13:10. > :13:33.Harris is guilty of assaulting four women. Coming up now, the sport.

:13:34. > :13:37.Welcome to Sports day, Germany cannot find a way past Algeria,
