:00:00. > :00:00.have been forced to concede that a Tour de France win is highly
:00:00. > :00:20.unlikely. That is all coming up in about 15 minutes.
:00:21. > :00:26.This camera keeps catching me by surprise... Welcome to Outlook at
:00:27. > :00:37.what they are newspapers will be bringing us tomorrow morning. ``
:00:38. > :00:46.welcome to our look. The Financial Times says the US president is
:00:47. > :00:49.warning of further action. The father of one of the ten British
:00:50. > :00:54.victims confirmed Lays blame firmly on Putin. Pictures of the British
:00:55. > :00:59.victims on the front of the Daily Telegraph. The Mirror devotes its
:01:00. > :01:05.entire front page to those who died on the flight. The Times says the
:01:06. > :01:09.flight was lost after rebels shot down the wrong jets. The Guardian
:01:10. > :01:16.reports on what they described as a cover`up. Rebels have destroyed all
:01:17. > :01:21.links to the atrocity. A rebel fighter at the crash site, holding
:01:22. > :01:31.up a cuddly toy. The headline is the quote: People fell from the sky.
:01:32. > :01:35.This is the story that is dominating the front pages tonight and it is
:01:36. > :01:42.where we will begin. The rebels have destroyed all links to the MH17
:01:43. > :01:49.atrocity, according to the Guardian. Separatists block access to the
:01:50. > :01:54.crash site. A Russian fighter holding up a cuddly toy among the
:01:55. > :01:57.debris that has been found. James, the concern is that this team of
:01:58. > :02:02.experts that have only been given limited access to the crash site
:02:03. > :02:08.today, which they are obviously very pleased with, really must get in
:02:09. > :02:13.there before the site is ruined by people travelling all over it and
:02:14. > :02:17.taking things from it. The Guardian have done a good job. They have
:02:18. > :02:21.worked out what the story is. There is not a lot of hard evidence
:02:22. > :02:25.around. This story is that there should be experts on site. If you
:02:26. > :02:29.want to find out what happened, you should have experts on this site
:02:30. > :02:32.looking for evidence to prove one way or another whether the Russians
:02:33. > :02:41.were involved. That is not happening. The article makes the
:02:42. > :02:45.point that this is according to evidence from Weston `based defence
:02:46. > :02:49.and intelligence specialist. There are sceptics as to the voracity of
:02:50. > :02:52.even that. Claim and counterclaim. People on social media have been
:02:53. > :02:56.saying that they don't believe them either. Don't forget that some
:02:57. > :02:59.countries claiming Russia was responsible also tried to say that
:03:00. > :03:05.Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Absolutely. It is not
:03:06. > :03:12.immediately clear. I assume the experts they are talking about would
:03:13. > :03:19.be the observers. Yes, with the OSCE. Yes, but at least we have a
:03:20. > :03:24.story from the Guardian that is based on actual observation of
:03:25. > :03:29.events that have happened. They were getting the story from closer to the
:03:30. > :03:36.crash site. Yes. They were there. And their report is that there was
:03:37. > :03:41.actually a stand`off between the OSCE and the rebel commanders and
:03:42. > :03:47.that a shot was fired, which gives you quite a good picture of what
:03:48. > :03:55.that situation was. And I believe those advisers, those specialists,
:03:56. > :04:01.were only on`site for about 75 minutes. They were there for a very
:04:02. > :04:04.short time. They had a big argument. And they were not allowed to do
:04:05. > :04:09.anything very much and were seen off by gunfire. And some suggestion
:04:10. > :04:13.several hours ago that the black boxes on the other devices which are
:04:14. > :04:20.useful to investigators are not at the scene and may have been taken
:04:21. > :04:29.somewhere else. Let's look inside the Times. Rebels should done wrong
:04:30. > :04:32.plane. This suggests that MH17 took a quick and cheap retention not have
:04:33. > :04:39.been flying over this particular area because of the violence we have
:04:40. > :04:44.seen. `` a quick and cheap route. Some of the rebel groups had tweeted
:04:45. > :04:50.that they had brought down what they thought was a military aircraft of
:04:51. > :04:55.some sort. Those posts have now been removed, which is why we have this
:04:56. > :05:01.headline. This is good work from Times, bringing it together very
:05:02. > :05:05.nicely. There is a lot on social media pointing to Russian
:05:06. > :05:10.involvement. Pointing to the Russian backed separatists. And if it was
:05:11. > :05:14.not as serious... It would almost be like keystone cops. Shooting down
:05:15. > :05:19.the wrong plane. You know, if there had not been so many people on
:05:20. > :05:28.board... We should not be bringing anything to suggest either way. It's
:05:29. > :05:31.an interesting theory that they did want to do it in order to draw
:05:32. > :05:36.Russia into the conflict more closely. I cannot see how that would
:05:37. > :05:40.work. Another headline about taking the cheap route. Some airlines had
:05:41. > :05:44.already stopped flying over this part of Ukraine because of the
:05:45. > :05:51.violence but then this article suggests that even at the supposedly
:05:52. > :05:56.safe height this aircraft was flying, it was well within the range
:05:57. > :06:00.of certain weaponry. I think there is a lot more still to come on this
:06:01. > :06:07.aspect of the story. It's quite fascinating. Why was anybody flying
:06:08. > :06:14.across that airspace? But I'm also intrigued by the list of airlines
:06:15. > :06:21.that are not flying and to see that among the ones that are not going
:06:22. > :06:28.across it, Virgin, British Airlines, is the Russian airline.
:06:29. > :06:32.And this is a very bad day for Malaysian airlines and their
:06:33. > :06:40.business. Were they trying to save fuel? It is cheaper to fly directly
:06:41. > :06:50.over that route. The other airlines, Singapore, Air India... It leaves a
:06:51. > :06:58.lot of questions. The Mirror is one of a number of papers who has quite
:06:59. > :07:01.rightly, one could say, with the victims on the front page. You can
:07:02. > :07:08.see the range of people who have been killed in this crash, whatever
:07:09. > :07:13.its cause. And hearing some of the stories from the families is so
:07:14. > :07:18.moving. We report on tragedies all the time but this one seems to
:07:19. > :07:24.really get under the skin. Yes, it does. And these images. The fact
:07:25. > :07:30.that because of social media and smartphones, these images are
:07:31. > :07:34.readily available in a way that in the past they would not have been.
:07:35. > :07:43.And you can immediately see and identify these victims. The Scotsman
:07:44. > :07:49.has a similar front page with this montage of people who were on
:07:50. > :07:53.board. People of all ages, all backgrounds. A global tragedy. The
:07:54. > :07:59.number of nationalities on board has drawn many countries into a conflict
:08:00. > :08:05.that perhaps they had been keeping away from and they now cannot avoid
:08:06. > :08:08.being drawn in now. Yes. It is interesting that we have what is
:08:09. > :08:14.essentially a local paper looking at the global aspect, if you like. I'm
:08:15. > :08:20.not sure the picture works as it is very busy but... This is just a
:08:21. > :08:26.handful of people. And yet there are hundreds more. Exactly. You get an
:08:27. > :08:33.idea of the range of people in the nationalities. It also emphasises
:08:34. > :08:41.how isolated Russia now seems. You have the impression that this
:08:42. > :08:53.represents the world and all of these countries have been affected.
:08:54. > :08:56.It highlights the isolation. On another day, this would have been
:08:57. > :09:01.all over the front pages, I'm sure. Because of the crash, it is not.
:09:02. > :09:05.Israel and Gaza and what is happening between Hamas and the
:09:06. > :09:10.Israeli Defence Force. It has been pushed inside the papers, mostly.
:09:11. > :09:16.This is the second page of the Sun. Israeli tanks pound Gaza. After 2000
:09:17. > :09:21.air strikes in which 274 Palestinians have been killed, the
:09:22. > :09:25.vast majority of them civilians, we now have this ground offensive,
:09:26. > :09:30.which has also become a ground incursion, with troops on the
:09:31. > :09:37.ground. Benjamin Netanyahu says it will be intensified even further.
:09:38. > :09:42.Yes. Apparently, it is to target Hamas's tunnel network and the push
:09:43. > :09:49.continues. That cannot be done from the air, it seems. An invasion is
:09:50. > :09:56.being used by the other side. It's not good news. It's another terrible
:09:57. > :09:59.story. We said yesterday that Benjamin Netanyahu said it would be
:10:00. > :10:06.of limited scope but not limited intensity. It just means that peace
:10:07. > :10:11.is further away because you create more mistrust and anger on both
:10:12. > :10:15.sides. And we will have to wait even longer before we get close to any
:10:16. > :10:18.kind of arrangement. I remember Bill Clinton having both sides at the
:10:19. > :10:24.White House and thinking, here we go, we are almost over the line.
:10:25. > :10:30.That was 20 years ago and it is worse than ever. Egypt tried the
:10:31. > :10:34.other day that lasted for about five hours. If you are in Israel, you
:10:35. > :10:41.want your country to protect you from rockets that are being fired
:10:42. > :10:48.from Gaza. Conversely, how defensible is this in terms of the
:10:49. > :10:52.proportionality of the response? But if the missiles are coming at your
:10:53. > :11:00.house, it would seem proportionate to you. The state has to protect its
:11:01. > :11:02.citizens, every single one. If this is what they think they have to do
:11:03. > :11:07.to protect them, it seems proportionate. I'm not saying it is
:11:08. > :11:11.but that is the kind of defence. It depends on which side of the
:11:12. > :11:17.argument you are on. It's difficult not to see this with the historical
:11:18. > :11:23.perspective and the feeling that there is an inevitability about the
:11:24. > :11:27.way this has unfolded and is unfolding and the hope that there
:11:28. > :11:35.will be a break and a pulling back in the fullness of time. We feel we
:11:36. > :11:46.have been here before. The Sun on the same page. The possible breakup
:11:47. > :11:49.of the big four banks. The big four banks face a lengthy competition
:11:50. > :11:53.probe, a word that nobody ever uses in normal speech, which could result
:11:54. > :12:01.in their breakup. Lloyds and the Bank of Scotland are partly owned by
:12:02. > :12:05.us, the taxpayer. This has been mooted for ages. They have too much
:12:06. > :12:12.power and need to be smaller. This is a very happy story. However, it's
:12:13. > :12:18.not quite as simple as that. As ever. It says in the story that it
:12:19. > :12:28.may spell the end of free banking for many. There is no such thing! Of
:12:29. > :12:33.course there is! You pay for it in other ways, don't you? Apparently
:12:34. > :12:38.they have to advertise and be more transparent and shared data. Only if
:12:39. > :12:44.you read the small print, and who does, frankly? Once again, this is
:12:45. > :12:47.an Ed Miliband initiative which started off great and somehow
:12:48. > :12:57.doesn't quite work out for him. Why not? Because he put forward this
:12:58. > :13:02.idea and it has been taken up but there is a sting in the tail and as
:13:03. > :13:10.James was pointing out, it's not going to be quite as popular as it
:13:11. > :13:13.seems at first. But the costs are hidden. It's not that we don't pay
:13:14. > :13:20.anything, we just don't realise what we're praying. I just feel sorry for
:13:21. > :13:23.Ed Miliband in a way but somehow he cannot get through with his ideas.
:13:24. > :13:30.Let's get through with the Telegraph. Buying the groceries and
:13:31. > :13:37.a new house. As well as your milk and bread, you can get one of 4000
:13:38. > :13:41.new homes that will be built by Tesco on land previously earmarked
:13:42. > :13:44.for supermarkets. The reason the land is available is they have been
:13:45. > :13:49.stopped in their tracks from building in some places. Yes and
:13:50. > :13:56.they are turning it to good use. They are quite versatile. They are
:13:57. > :14:05.in banking as well. They are diversifying. Apparently, the land
:14:06. > :14:08.around this area is worth a lot of money, so if they are going to be
:14:09. > :14:15.building desirable residences on it, they might be making more money than
:14:16. > :14:21.from the supermarkets. They certainly would think of it as a
:14:22. > :14:27.safe bet. This is the south of England where people do not want
:14:28. > :14:32.supermarkets. It's extraordinary. The fingers that supermarkets having
:14:33. > :14:48.so many different pies. It's because they're facing competition from
:14:49. > :14:57.algae `` from Aldi and Lidl. They have so many strange things now.
:14:58. > :15:11.Now, they are selling houses. Thank you for joining us.
:15:12. > :15:27.Time for all the sports news. Hello and welcome to Sportsday. I'm Nina
