:00:00. > :00:00.been not bidding for the World Cup as long as Sepp Blatter remains in

:00:00. > :00:15.charge of FIFA. That is in 15 minutes after the papers.

:00:16. > :00:20.Not our normal studio as you can see ` we're live

:00:21. > :00:26.on the banks of the River Clyde to mark the eve of Glasgow 2014.

:00:27. > :00:29.With me are Richard Walker, the editor of The Sunday Herald and

:00:30. > :00:33.Lindsay McIntosh, Scottish Political Correspondent for The Times.

:00:34. > :00:35.They'll be taking us through their pick of tomorrow morning's

:00:36. > :00:49.First, let's look at tomorrow morning's front pages.

:00:50. > :00:52.And the Independent says MPs are warning of a sharp increase in

:00:53. > :00:55.the sale of weaponry to Russia, just as the European Union considers

:00:56. > :00:57.widening sanctions against Moscow over its support for pro`Russian

:00:58. > :01:00.They've been blamed of course for downing the Malaysian airliner.

:01:01. > :01:03.The Financial Times says the head of the French Socialist party has

:01:04. > :01:06.accused David Cameron of hypocrisy for urging Paris to scrap

:01:07. > :01:09.the sale of two warships to Russia when so many Russian oligarchs have

:01:10. > :01:19.For the Telegraph, it's a photograph of the Queen's racehorse, Estimate,

:01:20. > :01:22.who's tested positive for the banned substance morphine, that features

:01:23. > :01:26.But the paper also says the SNP leader Alex Salmond has broken his

:01:27. > :01:28.own self`imposed ban and already talked about Scottish Independence

:01:29. > :01:39.even before the Commonwealth Games has officially started.

:01:40. > :01:42.The Guardian leads with the Trojan Horse report from former

:01:43. > :01:44.counter`terror chief Peter Clarke into allegations of a hard`line

:01:45. > :01:54.And The Mail, which also pictures the Queen with her racehorse

:01:55. > :01:56.at Ascot, says David Cameron is under pressure to return

:01:57. > :02:02.donations given by Russian oligarchs to the Conservative Party.

:02:03. > :02:13.Let's begin our more in`depth look at the papers. Yes, this is in

:02:14. > :02:19.context of the Malaysian airlines crash, and as the world decides what

:02:20. > :02:24.sanctions to put in place we have a report coming out from the committee

:02:25. > :02:31.on export controls which shows there has been a 52% rise in the licenses

:02:32. > :02:35.for exports to Russia of ammunitions in the last 12 months. This comes

:02:36. > :02:38.after David in the last 12 months. This comes

:02:39. > :02:42.after Cameron addressed the Commons yesterday and criticised the French

:02:43. > :02:46.for their warships they are exporting and saying we need to take

:02:47. > :02:51.a hard line on this, and it also comes on the day when the EU nations

:02:52. > :02:55.were meeting to discuss what sanctions they could put in place.

:02:56. > :03:06.This throws open the issues individual and countries will have

:03:07. > :03:14.and how the sanctions will affect them. What are your thoughts on

:03:15. > :03:21.this, Richard? It is not a great front page for the prime minister,

:03:22. > :03:25.is it? It is not, it is hardly a surprise return sells arms to

:03:26. > :03:34.Moscow, Britain sells arms to almost everybody. But is a shocking and

:03:35. > :03:39.shameful list, Huffington Post reported one year ago that the UK

:03:40. > :03:52.sells ?12 billion worth of arms to the world's worst dictatorships. It

:03:53. > :03:57.is a real embarrassment to David Cameron. Not a surprise because for

:03:58. > :04:01.this Government, business and profits are number one priority and

:04:02. > :04:08.morals are nowhere to be seen. We need to look at what David Cameron

:04:09. > :04:15.does in terms of sanctions that are imposed. The timing of this report

:04:16. > :04:24.is unfortunate for him, and does he stand by the stance he has taken?

:04:25. > :04:30.That obviously happened before this terrible tragedy in Ukraine. That's

:04:31. > :04:36.right, but many of those contracts are still in place. Who would have

:04:37. > :04:42.thought that would be the first question David Cameron would ask his

:04:43. > :04:51.advisers before saying what he said? You are right, there are real issues

:04:52. > :04:56.around what pressure can be put on Putin to act on this. I think it is

:04:57. > :05:02.a really important issue. What is another important issue is why

:05:03. > :05:06.Britain can sell arms to these dictators and nobody questions them.

:05:07. > :05:11.I think we need to look at the policy over that. It needs to be

:05:12. > :05:17.dealt with at some point in the near future. Let's move on to the

:05:18. > :05:21.Financial Times, David Cameron accused of Russian hypocrisy. They

:05:22. > :05:26.are also reporting across the papers that the Labour Party are taking the

:05:27. > :05:32.opportunity to say, actually, David Cameron pointing out that the

:05:33. > :05:37.Conservative Party are accepting donations from Russian oligarchs.

:05:38. > :05:43.Yes, I'm not sure what the detail is, I would be wary about party

:05:44. > :05:48.political politics coming into this at this stage, but in terms of the

:05:49. > :05:53.City of London, that is the issue being referred to in the Financial

:05:54. > :05:59.Times, the accusation of hypocrisy over Russia which came from the

:06:00. > :06:03.French socialist leader. The suggestion was that David Cameron

:06:04. > :06:08.needs to clean up his backyard before he starts criticising the

:06:09. > :06:13.French for their dealings. Each country in the EU has got its own

:06:14. > :06:24.economic reliance and dependence with Russia and one of those that

:06:25. > :06:34.David Cameron will have to look at is London. It will be interesting to

:06:35. > :06:38.see what they come up with. Let's move back to the Independent and the

:06:39. > :06:48.other main story, depressingly familiar, a picture of Gaza and the

:06:49. > :06:52.terrible conflict going on there. This is a pretty shocking image,

:06:53. > :06:58.showing the father of a nine`year`old girl and his face in

:06:59. > :07:04.absolute dismay and grief and horror. What you can see in soft

:07:05. > :07:09.focus behind him is an image of the nine`year`old girl being carried by

:07:10. > :07:18.a relative to the hospital. These images coming out of Gaza, within

:07:19. > :07:21.this they are not showing anything macabre, just showing the extent of

:07:22. > :07:28.the human suffering here and it is horrendous. It is an example of how

:07:29. > :07:33.photography can really ram home the reality of the situation, and also

:07:34. > :07:38.change public opinion. There is no doubt innocent children are being

:07:39. > :07:46.killed and that just has to stop. There needs to be a real attempt to

:07:47. > :07:51.bring both sides under some sort of control, but certainly America has

:07:52. > :07:55.got a responsibility to be more forthright with Israel because I

:07:56. > :08:00.think if you look at the relativity of what is happening there, I think

:08:01. > :08:08.the missile strikes in Israel are clearly wrong. I think the balance

:08:09. > :08:18.is skewed with their firepower that Israel is using in Gaza. 28 Israeli

:08:19. > :08:22.deaths, much higher possibly than Benjamin Netanyahu would have been

:08:23. > :08:30.expecting, and yet there is much discomfort about the levels of

:08:31. > :08:35.suffering in Gaza. It is a very complex situation that has been

:08:36. > :08:40.going on for as long as I can remember. It waxes and wanes in

:08:41. > :08:44.terms of public opinion and publicity, depending on what is

:08:45. > :08:49.going on in these pictures and the ones we saw last week, they would

:08:50. > :08:53.certainly serve to put it further up the political agenda. We can only

:08:54. > :09:00.hope there is a renewed emphasis on finding a way to have a cease`fire.

:09:01. > :09:05.Let's look at the Herald because this is the reason we are here, the

:09:06. > :09:10.eve of the Commonwealth Games tomorrow. It has been a great day

:09:11. > :09:20.here in Glasgow, the sun has been shining. The sun always shines on

:09:21. > :09:25.Glasgow! It's true! It has been an absolutely beautiful day and you can

:09:26. > :09:32.really sends the spirit. You guys spend much more time in the city

:09:33. > :09:35.than I do, but... It is really busy, there are people from all over the

:09:36. > :09:41.world and there is a real sense of anticipation. A real sense of people

:09:42. > :09:45.supporting the Commonwealth Games here and tomorrow night will start

:09:46. > :09:54.the party, the likes of which the world has never seen. We don't know

:09:55. > :09:57.much about the opening ceremony. But we did not know much about the

:09:58. > :10:02.Olympic opening ceremony either, which took us by surprise. We did

:10:03. > :10:06.not know the Queen was going to jump out of a helicopter. Identity that

:10:07. > :10:10.will happen tomorrow. But we don't know who will jump out of what.

:10:11. > :10:14.There are rumours about certain things which I won't spoil by

:10:15. > :10:19.repeating them. What I have heard, I have to admit, I was a bit cynical

:10:20. > :10:22.about it as I was about the opening of the Olympics, and that event blew

:10:23. > :10:26.me away. From what I have heard about tomorrow night, it is going to

:10:27. > :10:33.be absolutely fantastic. I can hardly wait. Maybe you can tell us

:10:34. > :10:42.about the theme, Gallagher us, this impish, self`deprecation with a

:10:43. > :10:46.swagger. Maybe a bit of self`confidence. Yes, definitely a

:10:47. > :10:51.bit of a swagger. You need to experience it to understand what it

:10:52. > :10:53.is but you will see it here. We are hearing from the guy who has

:10:54. > :10:57.orchestrated the opening ceremony that it will have a Glaswegian

:10:58. > :11:01.accent. I'm not entirely sure what that means but it sounds brilliant.

:11:02. > :11:06.Looking at the front page of the Herald, the leaders hail city

:11:07. > :11:11.transformation, ?1 billion investment, 4500 athletes from 71

:11:12. > :11:15.nations, but is it all good? I spoke to a couple of taxi drivers, maybe,

:11:16. > :11:22.who are a bit annoyed about the inconvenience. Never take the

:11:23. > :11:27.opinion of a taxi driver! Others have been happy about it. Any

:11:28. > :11:31.negatives? Yes, some people are unhappy about certain things that

:11:32. > :11:34.have happened. Some people believe that their own areas are not getting

:11:35. > :11:38.the investment and the benefits that they would expect from an event like

:11:39. > :11:42.this. You can completely understand that. I think it is overridden by

:11:43. > :11:47.the benefits of showing Scotland as it is today and Glasgow as it is

:11:48. > :11:53.today, to the world. That is a tremendous opportunity. I think the

:11:54. > :11:56.world will be duly impressed. In terms of the few negative headlines

:11:57. > :12:02.we have had in the build`up, they have been pretty minimal, compare to

:12:03. > :12:03.major events. Like the Olympics. There have been teething problems,

:12:04. > :12:38.issues with the opening ceremony, FA chairman Greg Dyke tells MPs

:12:39. > :12:41.the FA will not bid for FIFA tournaments, as long as

:12:42. > :12:44.Sepp Blatter's in charge. Alistair Cook keeps his captaincy,

:12:45. > :12:48.as England name their squad
