:00:00. > :00:07.diving and we will show you how gymnast Max Whitlock landed his

:00:08. > :00:09.second goal of the games, with Dan Keatings from Scotland taking

:00:10. > :00:17.silver. That's all in Sportsday in 15 minutes after the papers.

:00:18. > :00:24.Welcome back to our look ahead at what the Papers will be bringing us

:00:25. > :00:27.tomorrow `` papers. Jennie Bond and Lynn Faulds Wood are with me. Let's

:00:28. > :00:33.go through the front pages, starting with the Metro. It starts with an

:00:34. > :00:38.exclusive interview with a London doctor who gave up his job to

:00:39. > :00:41.volunteer in Sierra Leone. He said doctors are struggling to cope with

:00:42. > :00:44.treating the victims of the Ebola virus. Flames billowing out of

:00:45. > :00:48.Eastbourne Pier dominate the cover of the Telegraph. The paper also has

:00:49. > :00:50.a warning that on one of the busiest weekends of the year, holidaymakers

:00:51. > :00:53.face flying without their luggage from Gatwick Airport because of

:00:54. > :00:56.staff shortages. The Express also has a photo of black smoke and

:00:57. > :00:59.flames engulfing Eastbourne Pier. But its main story is Conservative

:01:00. > :01:13.hopes that the 40p higher rate tax threshold could be raised, if they

:01:14. > :01:15.win the next election. The Financial Times says the incoming European

:01:16. > :01:18.Commission, President Jean Claude Junker, is considering a new EU

:01:19. > :01:21.Financial Services Tsar, who would be charged with regulating the City

:01:22. > :01:29.of London and ensuring financial stability. But the Guardian leads

:01:30. > :01:32.with the Israeli attack on a United Nations school in Gaza, killing at

:01:33. > :01:35.least fifteen people who were taking shelter from the violence. The paper

:01:36. > :01:38.quotes UN officials: 'The World Stands Disgraced'. The Mail says

:01:39. > :01:41.that Eastbourne Pier was an 'icon of the English seaside'. The paper also

:01:42. > :01:44.claims that an NHS hospital was forced to pay a nurse ?1,800 to

:01:45. > :01:48.cover a shift on a Bank Holiday. Another dramatic picture of that

:01:49. > :01:51.pier in flames is on the cover of the Independent. It also claims

:01:52. > :01:57.Germany and Russia have been working on a secret plan to try to end

:01:58. > :02:00.international tensions over Ukraine. And finally, The Times asks: Is it

:02:01. > :02:04.the end of Eastbourne Pier? The paper also says that energy firms

:02:05. > :02:05.are failing to pass on huge falls in the costs of wholesale oil and gas

:02:06. > :02:28.to their customers. The horror of what is going on in

:02:29. > :02:34.Gaza and Israel is beyond words. It leaves you speechless, really. The

:02:35. > :02:38.Guardian has got it right. A picture of a little girl. It is a great

:02:39. > :02:46.picture. It is so poignant, so emotive. A little girl splattered

:02:47. > :02:52.with blood. It could be much more graphic. But the sorrow on this

:02:53. > :02:57.little girl's face, the blood on her dress, it is profoundly moving.

:02:58. > :03:07.Perhaps today has been the worst day of recent weeks. I am just saddened,

:03:08. > :03:14.really. Saddened that Eastbourne Pier has knocked off the front page.

:03:15. > :03:21.The UN are saying that this is a disgrace to the world. A serious

:03:22. > :03:24.violation of international law. We know that terrible things are

:03:25. > :03:28.happening on either side. But the innocents caught in the middle. This

:03:29. > :03:36.view when school is not the first one to be hit. 3300 people, women

:03:37. > :03:41.and children mainly. People who have been told to get out of their houses

:03:42. > :03:46.by the military because the area was going to be hit. They thought they

:03:47. > :03:49.were in a safe haven. 40 of them were sleeping in one classroom when

:03:50. > :03:56.it was hit. Just to make that point, a lot of these papers have a

:03:57. > :04:02.picture of Eastbourne Pier. What does that say? Is that the

:04:03. > :04:07.depressing familiarity of this conflict? We must not let ourselves

:04:08. > :04:13.become too familiar with this. It has got to be on every front page.

:04:14. > :04:17.After such a dreadful day. Not only the attack on the school, but the

:04:18. > :04:22.attack on the market. More people were injured and killed. Credit to

:04:23. > :04:26.television news, it has been carrying pictures of small babies

:04:27. > :04:34.being buried or carried in severe injury. How can small children

:04:35. > :04:41.recover from this kind of bombardment? What kind of hatred are

:04:42. > :04:50.we breeding? That was supposed to be a ceasefire today. People went out

:04:51. > :04:58.shopping. They got hit. I know the rockets are being fired from areas

:04:59. > :05:05.where people are, but it is just terrible. It is all men. I was

:05:06. > :05:14.making this point earlier. We must stop this. That is one of the most

:05:15. > :05:19.depressing things. There is also this talk of a ceasefire, but it

:05:20. > :05:25.seems to be meaningless. They are so entrenched in their positions. I do

:05:26. > :05:31.not know what we can believe and who can we believe. In the Guardian,

:05:32. > :05:39.there is a story deeper in the paper. Apparently they are not close

:05:40. > :05:48.to a ceasefire, despite the mounting pressure. We are getting nowhere.

:05:49. > :05:54.Hamas are not close either. It is going to get worse before it gets

:05:55. > :06:02.better. I am going to move us onto the front page of the Telegraph. It

:06:03. > :06:05.also features Eastbourne Pier. But the Archbishop of Canterbury has

:06:06. > :06:11.been talking about the situation in the Middle East. Justin Welby, a man

:06:12. > :06:17.who I have quite a lot of time for, he has been making a lot of sense to

:06:18. > :06:20.me. We need some wisdom in this situation. He is talking about a

:06:21. > :06:29.rise in anti`Semitic attacks in Britain. There has been a doubling

:06:30. > :06:34.of the incidents. Apparently we are talking about verbal abuse,

:06:35. > :06:38.vandalism, that sort of thing. And actual assaults as well. He is

:06:39. > :06:45.accusing both sides of breaking the rules of war. War does have certain

:06:46. > :06:58.areas that are meant to be sacrosanct. Why don't they just

:06:59. > :07:04.somehow, we have got to get both sides together. We have got to stop

:07:05. > :07:12.this. He is saying there must be hope given to the Palestinians.

:07:13. > :07:16.People who have no hope will be violent. Israel have to understand

:07:17. > :07:23.that they will continue to understand while the Palestinians

:07:24. > :07:30.are without hope. Let us move on to a different story. In the Times,

:07:31. > :07:35.they have the picture of the Black Smoke billowing out of Eastbourne

:07:36. > :07:40.Pier. But they also have the story about energy firms doubling profits.

:07:41. > :07:45.Huge falls in the cost of oil and gas are not being passed on. I

:07:46. > :07:56.switched energy suppliers and we managed to halve our bill. The last

:07:57. > :08:00.lot, we sure it did not sign onto a standard agreement, but that is what

:08:01. > :08:11.we were on. If you are not on some kind of saving, switch. Ask how much

:08:12. > :08:22.different companies will charge if you switch. I finally switched. I

:08:23. > :08:29.went on something that was fixed. It is really complicated. It depends on

:08:30. > :08:37.how long you fetch four. I am benefiting. The energy companies are

:08:38. > :08:47.saying, an election as `` is coming. They are blaming Ed Miliband for

:08:48. > :08:52.this. I can remember in the past, the companies have not passed drops

:08:53. > :08:59.onto us. There are sheltering behind the fact an election is coming. It

:09:00. > :09:03.makes your blood boil. You say you're going to have a freeze, why

:09:04. > :09:10.can't you legislate to, you must pass these cost reductions on. It

:09:11. > :09:20.must be possible. And clear bills as well, please. And we can go on to

:09:21. > :09:27.Eastbourne Pier. Fantastic pictures on nearly every front page. I am not

:09:28. > :09:32.quite sure why it is getting quite such prominence. We have been a

:09:33. > :09:40.starter kit catchment to our peers. `` aid the spellcheck attraction to

:09:41. > :09:48.our piers. They should restore it to its former glory. There was a 900

:09:49. > :09:52.seat music room and ballroom. How much nicer would it be to restore it

:09:53. > :10:04.to that instead of the amusement arcade which it is now? There are no

:10:05. > :10:14.longer economic. Now a lot of the piers I have visited are mainly slot

:10:15. > :10:23.machines. I just wonder if we are being a bit middle`class. A lot of

:10:24. > :10:28.people like these things. There was one in the centre of Richmond. I do

:10:29. > :10:34.not know, I do not play slot machines. You are possibly right. I

:10:35. > :10:44.remember I managed to crack the code for the fruit machine and get at

:10:45. > :10:48.least half a crown. We are running out of time. I want to take you to

:10:49. > :10:56.the Express. There are headline is, millions are set for tax cuts. There

:10:57. > :11:02.is a election coming up. All of these women being put into positions

:11:03. > :11:08.of ministerial power. Now they are talking about struggling families

:11:09. > :11:13.who pay 40% tax and they are going to change the threshold. I am not

:11:14. > :11:21.sure how that helps poor people. They do not pay 40% tax. It is a

:11:22. > :11:27.squeezed middle. It is a squeezed uppermiddle. David Cameron has said

:11:28. > :11:32.he would like to raise the threshold. But he also says he

:11:33. > :11:39.cannot make that promise. Nice headline. In terms of the actual

:11:40. > :11:49.story, when that threshold was introduced, one in 20 were paying

:11:50. > :11:55.the rate. Now it is fired in sex. `` five in the six.

:11:56. > :12:05.When you put up things like VAT, it falls on poor people. If he was

:12:06. > :12:11.interested in being fairer, he would look at the half of the country that

:12:12. > :12:16.are poorer. People may say the economy is recovering, that people

:12:17. > :12:24.say that their living standards have not, but all and they are suffering.

:12:25. > :12:36.`` gone up at all. Thank you so much for coming. Do stay with us. At

:12:37. > :12:44.midnight, we will have much more on the situation in Gaza of the United

:12:45. > :12:53.Nations school came under attack. `` after a. Also coming up is the

:12:54. > :12:55.Commonwealth Games Sportsday. That is why from Glasgow.
