:00:00. > :00:18.Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be
:00:19. > :00:28.With me are James Rampton, features writer for the Independent.
:00:29. > :00:32.And the academic and former government policy adviser,
:00:33. > :00:43.Much fancier, James you could learn a thing or two! We can look at the
:00:44. > :00:45.front pages. The Metro leads with the video
:00:46. > :00:48.released by so-called Islamic State which shows the execution of five
:00:49. > :01:05.individuals who they claim The Guardian newspaper has the same
:01:06. > :01:08.story and also mentions an English-speaking boy in the video.
:01:09. > :01:11.The Telegraph also covers the video by the terrorist group -
:01:12. > :01:13.with an image of the militant pointing a gun towards the camera.
:01:14. > :01:18.The BBC has decided not to show the image.
:01:19. > :01:21.The Independent reports on criticism facing David Cameron for failing
:01:22. > :01:23.to condemn the Saudi Arabian killings yesterday.
:01:24. > :01:31.The i headlines plans by the Government to fast-track
:01:32. > :01:38.The Express is warning of a pensions crisis that could last for 20 years
:01:39. > :01:40.as employers struggle to meet their liabilities and stump
:01:41. > :01:54.And in the Daily Mail... Quite a few papers feature the video said to
:01:55. > :02:03.have been put online by IS. Difficult to independently
:02:04. > :02:13.authenticated it. But here it is. In the Metro. We know the man
:02:14. > :02:23.previously known as Jihadi John was killed a few weeks ago. It seems
:02:24. > :02:33.somebody has stepped into his place. He was able to produce propaganda
:02:34. > :02:37.videos and clearly Daesh has replace this person because videos do get
:02:38. > :02:41.watched. This is about ten minutes long, five men are reported to have
:02:42. > :02:47.been murdered. Potentially they are British, or British spies. The
:02:48. > :02:51.person speaking is said to have an English accent, which is why we
:02:52. > :02:56.stress it might be a new Jihadi John. And also there is a boy is
:02:57. > :03:03.speaking with an English accent. Child soldiers are nothing new in
:03:04. > :03:08.the world, but for terrorism it is perhaps something new, something new
:03:09. > :03:13.for Daesh to be using. We do not know when it happened. People going
:03:14. > :03:16.back to work tomorrow, perhaps reading newspapers for the first
:03:17. > :03:22.time after the holidays, this will perhaps work in their favour. These
:03:23. > :03:27.people are accused of spying for Britain. There is no proof they were
:03:28. > :03:35.British, no proof they were spying. Difficult to authenticate. If that
:03:36. > :03:42.man was killed because of intelligence coming into the group,
:03:43. > :03:50.that might explain why people are being picked out as spies. Mrs
:03:51. > :03:58.Thatcher talked about the oxygen of publicity, demanding IRA members
:03:59. > :04:02.were voiced by actors. But this is a massive story with potentially a
:04:03. > :04:08.connection to this country and a shocking angle of a child making
:04:09. > :04:15.threats to kill nonbelievers. There was footage, not verified, of young
:04:16. > :04:20.boys killing people who were detained. To use a boy with a
:04:21. > :04:27.British accent to issue threats and to call David Cameron an imbecile, a
:04:28. > :04:31.slave of the White House, is a threat to this country, and that is
:04:32. > :04:36.why we have to pay attention and give it credence, even if it is not
:04:37. > :04:40.verified. It is making an impact. In the Guardian newspaper also, there
:04:41. > :05:11.is a picture. Very difficult to to know who is going to this part of
:05:12. > :05:21.the world. How has this child got there, has he been taken by someone
:05:22. > :05:26.else? If these people are British we need to verify that because the
:05:27. > :05:32.Foreign Office news today. There is sophisticated voiced recognition
:05:33. > :05:41.technology and advanced computer programmes to try to trace people,
:05:42. > :05:50.but even so it took months to identify Mohammed Emwazi. And also
:05:51. > :05:57.this is saying David Cameron has been condemned for silence on
:05:58. > :06:03.killings. It is interesting. Paddy Ashdown has hit the nail on the
:06:04. > :06:07.head. The clash between the Sunni and Shia branches of Islam is
:06:08. > :06:14.potentially as he says a greater threat to the west than anything IS
:06:15. > :06:19.can pose. It is a huge issue, a massive issue exacerbated tonight by
:06:20. > :06:23.Iran and Saudi cutting diplomatic relations. It means that the issue
:06:24. > :06:32.will get stronger. And more potent in our lives. You know better than
:06:33. > :06:38.us, having worked in government, what is going on diplomatically we
:06:39. > :06:42.will not get to see? There is often a need for a public statement to be
:06:43. > :06:46.made irrespective of what is going on behind closed doors. This is
:06:47. > :06:54.nothing new. Tensions have been rising since Arab Spring. Bahrain's
:06:55. > :07:02.Shia have been protesting every week on the streets. It will make more
:07:03. > :07:09.sense now to say publicly who it is and in this case why it is Saudi
:07:10. > :07:16.Arabia has done this. It will raise tensions in the world. That said,
:07:17. > :07:21.with the politics of Saudi Arabia, Iran coming back into the fold...
:07:22. > :07:25.This is more significant in the sense of there are British and
:07:26. > :07:31.Allied troops in this part of the world and we need to pay attention
:07:32. > :07:35.because we cannot see more tension rising. I want to move on. The
:07:36. > :07:51.pledge to fast track building of new homes. This is in a bit... Nobody
:07:52. > :07:55.says in a bid in normal life! We have been hearing about this for
:07:56. > :08:01.years. Magical houses that will appear from nowhere. Brown field
:08:02. > :08:07.sites. 30,000 affordable starter homes, putting aside ?1.2 billion
:08:08. > :08:11.for this. It is coming out today where we are getting interested in
:08:12. > :08:16.the news again that the Labour Party saying it is hiding the government's
:08:17. > :08:21.failure in creating new homes. We know those of us in the south-east
:08:22. > :08:25.the pressure on finding homes. I have three children and I am saying,
:08:26. > :08:32.how will they afford to live in London? How am I going to make them
:08:33. > :08:36.leave home? ! Or go to live somewhere more affordable because it
:08:37. > :08:41.is pressurised and there has to be something done about it. Successive
:08:42. > :08:48.governments have not tackled this. It is rich of the Labour Party to
:08:49. > :08:54.say this when they have not. 30,000 new homes when we know we need a
:08:55. > :08:58.quarter of a million new homes. It pales into whatever the reality is.
:08:59. > :09:04.The line is they will be starter homes that are affordable. I do not
:09:05. > :09:09.know who it is affordable for. A couple of stories in the Daily
:09:10. > :09:15.Telegraph with Poland perhaps backing EU benefit curb in return
:09:16. > :09:20.for Nato troops deal. The Polish Foreign Minister saying they might
:09:21. > :09:26.be willing to throw David Cameron a lifeline in exchange for something.
:09:27. > :09:32.In exchange for a Nato base in Poland. That is quite a compromise.
:09:33. > :09:40.I am sure the Prime Minister will be happy but there will be opposition
:09:41. > :09:45.from Germany and France. This is not just for the UK to say, that we can
:09:46. > :09:53.agree that, other Nato powers have to have a say. Nato is a separate
:09:54. > :09:57.organisation. It is bizarre. In this febrile atmosphere, is it wise to be
:09:58. > :10:08.like this saying we will do that? It is not the most passive state, one
:10:09. > :10:14.saying we are happy to see that on our doorstep. It is pie in the sky
:10:15. > :10:19.to think the government can make this almost behind closed doors deal
:10:20. > :10:23.and think no one else will, it. It is not behind closed doors. It is on
:10:24. > :10:30.the front page! But without reference to other countries.
:10:31. > :10:36.Downton Abbey has finished, which is on the other side and we should not
:10:37. > :10:42.talk about that! The BBC has come out fighting with an adaptation of
:10:43. > :10:51.war and peace. Have you read it? No. Now we do not need to. God bless
:10:52. > :10:56.Andrew Davies, responsible for many adaptations, such as Brideshead
:10:57. > :11:01.revisited. Wonderful adaptations. He has distilled a 1400 page novel into
:11:02. > :11:07.six hours of TV. It stars somebody from Downton Abbey. Certain papers
:11:08. > :11:13.complained the licence fee is a waste of money but if you watch the
:11:14. > :11:20.six hours of this drama, and I have been on the set in Lithuania, seeing
:11:21. > :11:29.an incredible re-creation of the Battle of Borodino, a key battle of
:11:30. > :11:34.the Napoleonic wars. 50 horses, singing a Russian liturgy. If you do
:11:35. > :11:38.not think about is worth the licence, you are barking up the
:11:39. > :11:45.wrong tree. An extraordinary piece of work that justifies the licence
:11:46. > :11:50.fee for me. Other TV channels are available, but we do not recommend
:11:51. > :11:59.them! Going back to the Independents. Ben Stokes has come to
:12:00. > :12:04.attention because, it says, Big Ben strikes. Hitting the fastest double
:12:05. > :12:12.century in Tess history. An amazing achievement. A world record for a
:12:13. > :12:18.double century and playing South Africa that cannot be an easy task.
:12:19. > :12:25.We should hold onto him. Normally when they set records, they go to
:12:26. > :12:31.India and join the IPL. He is a great British hero, a cliche, but he
:12:32. > :12:45.had Apache run of form recently but today he exploded. South Africa the
:12:46. > :12:51.number one Tess side. -- Test. He hit 11 sixes, a world record. And he
:12:52. > :12:56.is English. Well done, Ben Stokes. We will talk about that later.
:12:57. > :13:00.Further now, you will have a terrible cup of coffee in the
:13:01. > :13:09.newsroom. We will see you at 11:30pm. Stay with us, at 11 we have
:13:10. > :13:11.the latest on the breakdown on diplomatic relations between Iran
:13:12. > :13:15.and Saudi Arabia.
