:01:31. > :01:38.of the singer Cheryl Fernandez Rossini. Which we will not telling
:01:39. > :01:44.to -- delve into. Let's begin with the Observer and politics. Lucky
:01:45. > :01:50.Matthew is here. He can talk about the internal wranglings of the
:01:51. > :01:57.Labour Party. The top MP quitting is not on the front page. We have to
:01:58. > :02:02.delve to find out who this is. It is Alistair McGovern who is from the
:02:03. > :02:06.north-west. What she highlights in her comments is something that is a
:02:07. > :02:11.cause for concern within the Labour Party at the moment, when we should
:02:12. > :02:16.be having a fundamental debate about policy and the direction we need to
:02:17. > :02:21.go on, we lost the last election and until we have a conversation about
:02:22. > :02:25.that then we are not going to find the way forward. Jeremy Corbyn tries
:02:26. > :02:30.to regain the initiative with the column he has sent we need to focus
:02:31. > :02:33.on Tory failings in health, housing and education and I totally agree
:02:34. > :02:38.with him. The trouble is the reshuffle we had this week totally
:02:39. > :02:44.feels that test that he is setting himself. Instead of focusing on the
:02:45. > :02:48.big issues, for example on Tuesday, attacking the government over Europe
:02:49. > :02:53.and the disarray in the Conservative party on Thursday with George
:02:54. > :02:56.Osborne giving a speech on the economy, we were engaged in this
:02:57. > :02:59.debate about the reshuffle and what would have been more used to the
:03:00. > :03:04.Labour Party would be John McDonnell spending more of Thursday attacking
:03:05. > :03:10.George Osborne, rather than attacking colleagues who had been
:03:11. > :03:15.fired by the leader or inciting spurious conspiracy theories against
:03:16. > :03:21.the BBC. Journalists can't help themselves with a story like this.
:03:22. > :03:25.We are not necessarily reporting how the opposition is defending or
:03:26. > :03:31.attacking government policy, we are concentrating on the machinations of
:03:32. > :03:37.the party itself. Yes and it always has been. The majority of the time
:03:38. > :03:42.that Mr Corbyn has been leader, there have been stories constantly
:03:43. > :03:46.about him. One can and certain people do regularly accuse the
:03:47. > :03:50.media, whether it is television, radio or the written press in the
:03:51. > :03:56.United Kingdom, of being unfair and Mr Corbyn. They remind us daily
:03:57. > :04:00.about the fact that he has that big support of the crew members of the
:04:01. > :04:06.Labour Party. However, what keeps on coming up regularly, apart from a
:04:07. > :04:12.three-day long reshuffle, the fight with the BBC, not there will be
:04:13. > :04:17.another fight with Sunday Politics if, as is true in the Observer,
:04:18. > :04:25.Alistair McGovern from Wirral South resigns live on the BBC tomorrow.
:04:26. > :04:34.The fact of the matter is he is not helping himself because this kind of
:04:35. > :04:39.disunity and this bypassing of Labour MPs who are elected on a
:04:40. > :04:43.particular manifesto, which included the backing of Trident, is cause and
:04:44. > :04:47.not just tensions within the party but confusion up and down the United
:04:48. > :04:54.Kingdom about what the Labour Party currently stands for and what of the
:04:55. > :05:03.shadow can on it. Let's look at the story in the Independent. He is fast
:05:04. > :05:09.tracking the vote on Trident. The NEC could take the decision. That
:05:10. > :05:16.would be quite a move. It seems that the NEC is quite happy to support
:05:17. > :05:21.the disarmament, unilateral disarmament. It has several options.
:05:22. > :05:27.Again, I can back to the point that these are elected Labour MPs,
:05:28. > :05:32.elected on a manifesto in May 2015, where in January 2016, I think the
:05:33. > :05:38.public is entitled, despite the leadership campaign and resort to
:05:39. > :05:41.believe that their MPs can stand on the manifesto pasted on. It doesn't
:05:42. > :05:47.mean they cannot look at other issues that come up. What was the
:05:48. > :05:52.mechanism for how the national executive could take over
:05:53. > :05:56.policy-making? What it would mean was that what Jeremy Corbyn is
:05:57. > :06:01.looking to do here is to create an alternative power base with the
:06:02. > :06:05.national executive committee so he can go into a debate on Trident and
:06:06. > :06:09.say the shadow cabinet brings this but the national executive things
:06:10. > :06:14.that and try to create some balance of equals. The problem is not only
:06:15. > :06:19.is this making decisions in smaller and smaller rooms, it is excluding
:06:20. > :06:23.party members from the process and far more importantly it is excluding
:06:24. > :06:28.the public. What is worrying about the style of politics we are seeing
:06:29. > :06:33.is that it isn't opening up, it is not broadening debate, that really
:06:34. > :06:37.has been no focus on engaging and reaching out to the public and
:06:38. > :06:42.trying to work out how we do something very simple and that is
:06:43. > :06:48.get more people to vote Labour. Let's look at the Observer. Parents
:06:49. > :06:51.should take lessons in how to control children says the Prime
:06:52. > :06:55.Minister. We will get vouchers for classes because we all need guidance
:06:56. > :07:01.says David Cameron. I cannot disagree with him on that. It is how
:07:02. > :07:04.you tell people what they have got to do and different people have
:07:05. > :07:10.different ideas about parenting. They do and this surely shows in the
:07:11. > :07:14.second paragraph where you see the phrase nanny state appearing in
:07:15. > :07:18.speech marks how difficult it is how difficult it is further government
:07:19. > :07:25.to get into this territory. We know the impact that early years have on
:07:26. > :07:30.outcomes. We know the difference if we make some of these international
:07:31. > :07:32.-- intergenerational disadvantages. Parents who didn't have good
:07:33. > :07:36.parenting experiences themselves do need some work to 20. What's
:07:37. > :07:43.interesting is that he is looking to take wider. What he is looking to do
:07:44. > :07:48.is provide confidence for parents who may well be doing the right
:07:49. > :07:53.thing but don't have that person to consult. They need to know they are
:07:54. > :07:59.doing the right thing. Briefly, did the government in France tell
:08:00. > :08:03.families how to parent? I don't believe they do. There are a lot of
:08:04. > :08:07.single parent families and a lot of people up and down the United
:08:08. > :08:11.Kingdom who despite the fact that it is a challenge, bring up their
:08:12. > :08:15.children in a perfectly good way. I think this is rather, they do not
:08:16. > :08:19.think it is a good idea and I don't think there should be any pressure
:08:20. > :08:23.on parents and marking of Terence and you are a bad parent if you
:08:24. > :08:27.don't go to these classes. I think you can reach out to other people,
:08:28. > :08:30.not just your immediate family if you are not lucky to have your
:08:31. > :08:34.immediate family. Let's remember that this will be announced in a
:08:35. > :08:38.speech on Sunday but that also remember that David Cameron has been
:08:39. > :08:44.here before and that ended in tears and in meltdown. But look at the
:08:45. > :08:51.Sunday Telegraph. Strike will hurt patients. Hunt makes it last-minute
:08:52. > :08:56.appeal. We need some time ago that if this strike went ahead and it
:08:57. > :09:00.looks like it will on Tuesday, but a lot of operations would have to be
:09:01. > :09:07.cancelled. Here are Jeremy Hunt is saying that all -- some A
:09:08. > :09:12.departments could close and, therefore, he is having a pop at the
:09:13. > :09:17.BMA and saying, in a sense, but they are irresponsible. He is saying they
:09:18. > :09:21.are irresponsible. This is going to be higher in patients. On the back
:09:22. > :09:26.of the demonstration today in London and in other towns around the United
:09:27. > :09:31.Kingdom, big cities, midwives and nurses coming out because there is a
:09:32. > :09:35.change of them not having bursaries and a more, but needing to take out
:09:36. > :09:43.loans, there is another group who will then be financially strapped
:09:44. > :09:46.and the fact that the midwifery certainly head of the midwifery
:09:47. > :09:50.association is saying that this is bad because it is going to mean that
:09:51. > :09:54.men and women are going to make decisions to knock down this route
:09:55. > :09:59.and become nurses because they do not think they can afford it. This
:10:00. > :10:03.is actually really problematic. I wonder how much public support they
:10:04. > :10:06.will be because in the run-up to have been lots of lots of
:10:07. > :10:09.demonstrations of people on social media appearing to support the
:10:10. > :10:14.junior doctors, I wonder if they will in reality when it bites? The
:10:15. > :10:18.problem is that rhetoric like this from the Secretary of State doesn't
:10:19. > :10:20.help. What the public want to see is Jeremy Hunt is on social media
:10:21. > :10:23.appearing to support the junior doctors, I wonder if they will in
:10:24. > :10:25.reality when it bites? The problem is that rhetoric like this from the
:10:26. > :10:28.Secretary of State doesn't help. What the public want to see is
:10:29. > :10:31.Jeremy Hunt using this weekend to try to resolve this at the last
:10:32. > :10:33.minute rather than use this weekend to get in his argument first with
:10:34. > :10:38.lurid headlines in the Sunday papers. The public would rather see
:10:39. > :10:42.him focusing on sorting it out. EU razor wire blocks Balkans. Macedonia
:10:43. > :10:49.is building a razor wire fence at its border with Greece. This is the
:10:50. > :10:53.ongoing issue coming out of the migration crisis that we have seen,
:10:54. > :11:00.the failure to look at how we can attack of the core issues that are
:11:01. > :11:05.happening in north Africa and Syria and we are seeing real fragmentation
:11:06. > :11:10.of some of the principles, if you like, of the European Union. Angela
:11:11. > :11:16.Merkel, who took a lead on this, is coming under pressure domestically
:11:17. > :11:24.and, again, what we are seeing is a case for where we need more European
:11:25. > :11:29.leadership rather than less. Varied reactions in various parts of Europe
:11:30. > :11:38.to this crisis. Eight splintering in their approach. Very much so. The
:11:39. > :11:42.whole Schengen area, because Greece, and that is the preoccupation and
:11:43. > :11:47.that is why the Brits were fence is being built, modelled on the one
:11:48. > :11:51.built by Hungary before, because there is grave concern that the
:11:52. > :11:55.whole Balkan route has not been closed off and there will be a
:11:56. > :12:06.continued exodus of refugees coming in. As most countries face budget
:12:07. > :12:11.cuts, high unemployment in France, in Greece we know all the problems
:12:12. > :12:15.there, then what we have seen in Germany with these alleged sex
:12:16. > :12:20.attacks that do not seem so legit, they did happen, it is a question of
:12:21. > :12:27.identifying the perpetrators, there is real tension and ratcheting it
:12:28. > :12:36.up. One country is asking for a special summit on this. Slovakia. It
:12:37. > :12:39.does need to be a copper heads of policy and not just trying to build
:12:40. > :12:51.a fence that will be finished in if feud with time.
:12:52. > :13:00.The Sunday Telegraph, let's give Matthew the last word. Man reading
:13:01. > :13:07.the newspaper says... I can come to wine -- I love how he can fit
:13:08. > :13:13.several stories in one. Yet again we see the perils of the government
:13:14. > :13:16.trying to give advice to people about decisions people think they
:13:17. > :13:21.should have control over themselves. How would it go down in France if
:13:22. > :13:26.people were told seven units a week was all they should have? Apart from
:13:27. > :13:32.linking it from driving, I don't think anyone would pay any notice. A
:13:33. > :13:37.little red wine or champagne goes down very well and makes the world a
:13:38. > :13:44.happier place. Other beverages are available. They are and it is not
:13:45. > :13:52.seven units, it is 14 units, but seven classes. There is no parity
:13:53. > :13:57.between men and women. There is. Men are being told to drink the same. We
:13:58. > :14:03.are finally equal. I will decide the matter for myself. That is it pretty
:14:04. > :14:09.papers this hour. We will be back again at half past 11 with another
:14:10. > :14:14.look at the front pages. Coming up next, sorry, stay with us. We'll
:14:15. > :14:17.have more on the arrest made in Ghana of the man suspected of
:14:18. > :14:18.killing the former Eastenders actress Sian Blake and her two
:14:19. > :14:29.children.
