:00:15. > :00:17.Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be

:00:18. > :00:24.With me are the former Conservative MP and the Managing Director

:00:25. > :00:26.of Bell Pottinger, Tim Collins, and the Guardian's Deputy

:00:27. > :00:43.The Daily Mirror leads with the anti-Semitism route which has

:00:44. > :00:45.escalated in the Labour Party. Financial Times has a story about a

:00:46. > :00:53.slowing US economic growth. The New Day leads with the woman

:00:54. > :00:56.who gave birth after a car crash which the paper says

:00:57. > :00:58.reversed her menopause. 'Work is key to a longer life'

:00:59. > :01:01.is the Daily Express's headline. It details new research into how

:01:02. > :01:04.working beyond retirement age The Guardian leads with

:01:05. > :01:07.Ken Livingstone's suspension from the Labour Party,

:01:08. > :01:09.including what the papers calls a revolt among MPs about

:01:10. > :01:13.anti-Semitism within the party. The Daily Mail is also leading

:01:14. > :01:24.with the former mayor's suspension - 'Labour's Civil War over

:01:25. > :01:26.anti-Semitism' its headline. 'Throw Livingstone out

:01:27. > :01:28.of Labour, MPs demand' The Daily Telegraph shows an image

:01:29. > :01:33.of Labour MP John Mann who publicly accused Ken Livingstone

:01:34. > :01:49.of being a 'Nazi apologist'. Let's begin. Obviously the

:01:50. > :01:57.Livingston story is dominating. It is interesting the way the story

:01:58. > :02:02.developed. The Daily Telegraph has reported about Ken Livingstone being

:02:03. > :02:04.barked at on a staircase. This all started with Ken Livingstone

:02:05. > :02:13.apparently trying to make things better after having to -- after the

:02:14. > :02:18.Labour Party having to suspend a member yesterday for anti-Semitism.

:02:19. > :02:22.He tried to defend her in a media round, and it just got worse and

:02:23. > :02:27.worse through the morning. This picture on the Daily Telegraph front

:02:28. > :02:33.page indicates the point where Jonathan Mann was haranguing him

:02:34. > :02:40.when Ken Livingstone had been on a radio interview. It is quite

:02:41. > :02:43.extraordinary. It is remarkable that this is happening just one week

:02:44. > :02:48.before critical elections for the Labour Party, and many Labour MPs

:02:49. > :02:56.are saying how angry they are that this can all meet damage Labour's

:02:57. > :03:01.prospects. Extraordinary altogether. Ten Livingstone, an unusual figure,

:03:02. > :03:13.but he seems to have Doug himself into an arm is whole and kept going.

:03:14. > :03:19.-- into a whole and kept going. These headlines are... The Tories

:03:20. > :03:27.have been very quiet, and why shouldn't they be? The headlines are

:03:28. > :03:32.a nightmare, a week from elections. This confrontation here as well.

:03:33. > :03:37.There was one Labour MP who said it was as if Ken Livingstone had gone

:03:38. > :03:44.from studio to studio acting like some sort of political arsonist. It

:03:45. > :03:50.is difficult to... The story is developing at your own paper. You

:03:51. > :03:52.have got the front page that no sign of John Mann and there but

:03:53. > :03:58.absolutely surrounded by eager journalists wanting to, not

:03:59. > :04:05.believing the story is being delivered to them right on camera!

:04:06. > :04:11.It is very difficult. There is a sort of pattern of behaviour. As far

:04:12. > :04:15.as Ken Livingstone is concerned, he is somebody who likes the limelight

:04:16. > :04:23.and reacts viscerally to what he perceives to be a tax on left-wing

:04:24. > :04:29.or minority causes, especially when he considers it to be by the media

:04:30. > :04:33.or some sort of establishment. This is the man he would say that he

:04:34. > :04:38.would like to see the Saudi royal family hung from lamp posts. That is

:04:39. > :04:44.no excuse at all, but I would say there is a pattern of behaviour. It

:04:45. > :04:48.is worth remembering that only a couple of months ago, Jeremy Corbyn

:04:49. > :04:55.appointed Ken Livingstone to be co-chair of Labour's policies Board,

:04:56. > :05:02.and then he goes out to make the sort of remarks again. A short time

:05:03. > :05:06.ago, he was not just a long-term friend of Jeremy Corbyn, but someone

:05:07. > :05:13.that Jeremy Corbyn trusted with this review of this policy in this area,

:05:14. > :05:19.and now he has been suspended, and is facing a number of calls for him

:05:20. > :05:25.to be thrown out of the Labour Party entirely, not just suspended, but

:05:26. > :05:34.actually injected from the party. I have spent long periods of time

:05:35. > :05:38.working with MPs, they aren't tearing their hair out. There are

:05:39. > :05:42.people who are decent and the Labour Party who can understand what is

:05:43. > :05:45.happening to their party and that's people in the far left are doing

:05:46. > :05:50.this to the reputation of Labour at such a critical time. There is no

:05:51. > :05:58.shortage, and all of these front pages, of Labour MPs who are deeply

:05:59. > :06:06.unhappy. I am happy about this but I am happy and away that the party has

:06:07. > :06:12.been led since Jeremy Corbyn... This is a Tory approach to say this is a

:06:13. > :06:22.proxy row for control of the Labour Party. It is not an invention in

:06:23. > :06:26.that sense, but it is a proxy row, is it a proxy row about the future

:06:27. > :06:35.of Jeremy Corbyn and so forth? I don't think so. It will play out

:06:36. > :06:40.over the next couple of days. Ken Livingstone is set the shadow of

:06:41. > :06:46.defence needed psychiatric help previously. And it turns out that

:06:47. > :06:53.Kelvin Jones had spoken out bravely in public about his own mental

:06:54. > :06:57.health problems. Ken Livingstone refused to apologise and apologised

:06:58. > :07:04.by social media the next day. Very eccentric and defensive... Whether

:07:05. > :07:08.it is a metaphor for the Labour Party is another thing. It is not

:07:09. > :07:13.just one person. The whole leadership team, these are people

:07:14. > :07:18.who are out of the Labour Party mainstreamed for the last 25-30

:07:19. > :07:23.years, people who were deliberately kept out, they were not trusted by

:07:24. > :07:27.those people who formed Labour governments. They are now in charge,

:07:28. > :07:31.and although Ken Livingstone has had some extraordinary comments that

:07:32. > :07:36.have revealed some of his thinking, it is just one individual. There is

:07:37. > :07:45.a rail problem with the Labour Party. -- a real problem. You are

:07:46. > :07:49.not saying John McDonald is anti-Semitic? No, I am not saying

:07:50. > :07:54.that at all. Some of the rivalry between John McDonald and as Ken

:07:55. > :08:02.Livingstone is part of what is going on. Let's move forward. We have the

:08:03. > :08:07.MPs who had at least apologised. Ken Livingstone has not apologised. Can

:08:08. > :08:16.you see him being thrown out of the Labour Party? Yes. They clearly

:08:17. > :08:22.will. There has got to be an inquiry, but you would have to say

:08:23. > :08:28.that if this was a self-inflicted wound, nobody else responsible, and

:08:29. > :08:33.if that proves to be fatal, and he has to leave public life and

:08:34. > :08:37.politics, as has been subjected by some, he has no-one else to blame

:08:38. > :08:41.but himself. Let's move onto a completely different story but one

:08:42. > :08:47.that might have more repercussions, I would have thought. The Financial

:08:48. > :08:51.Times front page. Slow down in US growth sparks doubts over economic

:08:52. > :08:55.durability. Financial speak, but a serious issue. Extremely serious and

:08:56. > :09:03.it is forming a pattern of behaviour which is quite worrying. The first

:09:04. > :09:13.quarter is always a sluggish and shows a growth of 0.5%. That is

:09:14. > :09:20.quite a problem. Business investment is down, consumer spending is down.

:09:21. > :09:26.This is starting to follow a pattern of behaviour. Japan might have

:09:27. > :09:29.tumbled back into deflation. We have this Chinese figures showing that

:09:30. > :09:34.Chinese growth is the lowest it has been for seven years. China has been

:09:35. > :09:40.trying to rebalance their economy from trade to domestic consumption.

:09:41. > :09:47.The Chinese figure looks quite good. If you talk about the UK, the UK

:09:48. > :09:51.figure this first quarter is 0.4%. We have got no problems there.

:09:52. > :09:56.George Osborne says our pressure is not necessarily going to come from

:09:57. > :10:00.China or the US, it is going to come from the threat of Brexit. George

:10:01. > :10:09.Osborne is a man we take very seriously. He says that if we have

:10:10. > :10:15.this threat weighing down on our economy... There was eye opening,

:10:16. > :10:20.you start pointing out the Financial Times says there is a slowdown in

:10:21. > :10:28.Japan, a slowdown in the United States, a slowdown in Brazil. These

:10:29. > :10:33.are all because of the Brexit! Businesses in Brazil are not saying,

:10:34. > :10:38.I am really worried about the Brexit for random so I will not invest. But

:10:39. > :10:42.what Paul is saying, because he is right about what George Osborne said

:10:43. > :10:47.about the UK slowdown, we will hear over the next two months that

:10:48. > :10:56.slowdowns, drops in the global stock market, a 10% drop in the stock

:10:57. > :11:01.market globally in January, we will keep being told for the next two

:11:02. > :11:08.months that any setback is because of Brexit. These figures absolutely

:11:09. > :11:12.demonstrate that that is rubbish. The world is slowing down. It will

:11:13. > :11:16.be blamed in the UK on the uncertainty of the referendum and it

:11:17. > :11:21.has nothing to do with it. For people wondering, what has it got to

:11:22. > :11:25.do with me? What would you say? What it means is that we know, Gordon

:11:26. > :11:32.Brown famously said he would abolish boom and bust, no-one can do that.

:11:33. > :11:35.Economy is growing in sharp spurts and they sometimes a slowdown and

:11:36. > :11:41.sometimes drop back. For the next year or two, there will be an

:11:42. > :11:45.economic slowdown, maybe even another recession, maybe not a

:11:46. > :11:49.depression, and we need to be ready for that. We probably need to

:11:50. > :11:55.tighten our belts again. We have heard that one before! If June 23

:11:56. > :12:02.goes well, we will see a bit of a surge. If we do not leave, there

:12:03. > :12:06.will be a surge, you are right. We have got long on this one, work

:12:07. > :12:11.being the key to a longer life. Do you intend to work forever? It is

:12:12. > :12:15.one of those things, a well-founded study from Oregon saying that you

:12:16. > :12:27.increase your life expectancy were cut your risk of dying, which is a

:12:28. > :12:33.different thing, if you carry on working. Only 20% of people in their

:12:34. > :12:36.late 60s carry on working. Express readers will get quite excited about

:12:37. > :12:42.this but the government would have a bit of a problem on their hands. My

:12:43. > :12:48.father-in-law is convinced that he has been right about this. He and

:12:49. > :12:53.his work colleagues all retired from their big job building submarines

:12:54. > :12:59.years ago and he carried on doing other work and he is healthy and

:13:00. > :13:05.well into his 80s. So, it is true. Inside page of the Daily Mail, best

:13:06. > :13:12.headline of the day. Marvellous! It is fantastic. The Royal Mail wrote a

:13:13. > :13:19.letter to the owners of this cat saying they have had a health and

:13:20. > :13:25.safety risk assessment about it and the caps could not be delivered. A

:13:26. > :13:35.very fierce black and white cat! That is it for tonight. -- the cat

:13:36. > :13:39.could not be delivered. Before you go, these

:13:40. > :13:42.front pages have come Don't forget all the front pages

:13:43. > :13:47.are online on the BBC News website where you can read a detailed review

:13:48. > :13:49.of the papers. It's all there for you -

:13:50. > :13:52.seven days a week - and you can see us there too,

:13:53. > :13:54.with each night's edition of The Papers being posted

:13:55. > :13:58.on the page shortly after
