:00:09. > :00:15.We'll be taking a look at tomorrow morning's papers in a moment.

:00:16. > :00:23.Barack Obama's spokesman says President Donald Trump's accusation

:00:24. > :00:30.that his predecessor ordered his phones to be tapped

:00:31. > :00:34.Sinn Fein describe the Stormont Assembly elections as a watershed -

:00:35. > :00:36.after coming within one seat of drawing level

:00:37. > :00:44.Clearly, the unionist majority in the Assembly has been ended

:00:45. > :00:52.and the notion of a permanent or perpetual unionist majority

:00:53. > :00:58.There are fears for the future of Vauxhall plants in Britain

:00:59. > :01:00.after a French car company which produces Peugeot vehicles

:01:01. > :01:11.reportedly reaches a deal to buy General Motors' European operations.

:01:12. > :01:22.Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine in the Marvel blockbuster Logan. We

:01:23. > :01:31.will hear more about that in the film review.

:01:32. > :01:35.Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be

:01:36. > :01:39.With me are the broadcaster Charlie Wolf and the Chief Political

:01:40. > :01:48.Commentator for the Independent, John Rentoul.

:01:49. > :01:54.Welcome back to both of you. Firstly, let us have a look at the

:01:55. > :01:58.front pages. Beginning with the observer who says that the UK's

:01:59. > :02:02.River is the watchdog is launching an enquiry into how the data of

:02:03. > :02:07.voters is being used during political campaigns. In Sunday

:02:08. > :02:09.Telegraph, allegations from President Trump that Barack Obama

:02:10. > :02:15.orchestrated an illegal Watergate style phone tapping operation at

:02:16. > :02:20.Trump Tower. Meanwhile, the Mail on Sunday says that Tony Blair attended

:02:21. > :02:28.a secret meeting at the White House to discuss working for Donald Trump

:02:29. > :02:34.as a Middle East peace convoy -- envoy. The Chancellor will use the

:02:35. > :02:36.budget to build up a war chest of boost Britain's post Brexit

:02:37. > :02:40.resilient. The independent leads with its own poll suggesting the

:02:41. > :02:45.majority of the ukase against government plans to cut corporation

:02:46. > :02:50.tax in favour of the money going towards the NHS. And, finally, the

:02:51. > :02:56.Sunday Express claims that nearly ?150 million from the health budget

:02:57. > :03:00.was spent on overseas aid last year. So, those that were just some of the

:03:01. > :03:07.front pages this morning. We have a selection we will be discussing.

:03:08. > :03:13.John, Charlie, why don't you start us, Charlie, with the front page of

:03:14. > :03:17.the observer? By my standards this is amazing. When I first started in

:03:18. > :03:27.journalism, we used to have scammers in America to Hibberd calls of

:03:28. > :03:31.police departments. And these days, we just get tweets and Twitter. This

:03:32. > :03:36.helps us see what Mrs Donald Trump is coming out with. And this morning

:03:37. > :03:40.it was a doozy. He has launched a verbal assault on Barack Obama

:03:41. > :03:47.accusing him of a wiretap in his office in New York. This is almost

:03:48. > :03:53.unprecedented. I won't say it is totally unprecedented. If you think

:03:54. > :03:59.back to, for instance, Clinton and George W Bush Bush. They made a

:04:00. > :04:07.mess, they trashed it. A couple of days ago, however, Trump said that

:04:08. > :04:12.when he took place over it was a mess. Instead, he is finding stuff

:04:13. > :04:15.that is going on. I guess he had a meeting with one of these people

:04:16. > :04:18.over national security that said we have been bugging you. What

:04:19. > :04:24.happened... That is not what they are saying is that. They say he

:04:25. > :04:31.simply read something, a news article. I'm not sure. We don't

:04:32. > :04:38.fully know this. He is not providing us with evidence. But it is possible

:04:39. > :04:44.that he could have been wiretapped in that the FBI and the CIA... This

:04:45. > :04:48.is something you may have had mentioned after 9/11, when the

:04:49. > :04:56.Patriot Act was being discussed. That would be the way for the CIA if

:04:57. > :05:01.they wanted to investigate suspicions of possible terrorist or

:05:02. > :05:05.something like that. As I understand this, the CIA and FBI went to this

:05:06. > :05:09.man, were rejected and came back. Trump is essentially saying that

:05:10. > :05:13.Barack Obama was behind it and... I guess I would have to surmise,

:05:14. > :05:18.again, this is speculation, if the FBI were to do that because they

:05:19. > :05:24.felt there was a Russian connection of some sort, I would have thought

:05:25. > :05:29.that something of that importance would have to go to the top. I just

:05:30. > :05:32.cannot see... Can you imagine the Home Secretary here? This is a

:05:33. > :05:38.paranoid fantasy of Donald Trump again. Shades of that, yes. But I

:05:39. > :05:42.think there could be more to it. You would imagine, even, most democratic

:05:43. > :05:48.countries you would have to have probable cause before the wiretap

:05:49. > :05:56.was okayed. Absolutely. If the FBI were doing it officially then they

:05:57. > :05:59.would have had to have announced it during the election campaign as they

:06:00. > :06:04.announce their investigation into Hillary. If they did it

:06:05. > :06:09.unofficially, then all sorts of things might be going on but... Did

:06:10. > :06:14.you read that, you know, is such a serious allegation that it has

:06:15. > :06:19.warranted a response from President Obama he... I don't think anybody

:06:20. > :06:24.would suggest that Obama himself would have ordered it. But it is

:06:25. > :06:29.unprecedented, what Donald Trump has said. Then again there are many that

:06:30. > :06:34.think that Barack Obama has been doing things, if not by himself but

:06:35. > :06:42.through his minions are getting things to happen such as, come these

:06:43. > :06:49.meetings the town meetings that senators returned to where they are

:06:50. > :06:54.facing protests. This is unusual. There are probably people there who

:06:55. > :06:57.are Republicans who are mad at senators over healthcare. But there

:06:58. > :07:01.is... One man wrote about, for instance, you go into a town hall,

:07:02. > :07:06.there are only a handful of view. You sit separately and looks at the

:07:07. > :07:16.whole hall is... There are shades that may or may not be true. It is

:07:17. > :07:20.also fair to say that Donald Trump has been hamstrung. He does not have

:07:21. > :07:23.a full cabinet yet and the Democrats have been obstinate. Maybe he is

:07:24. > :07:27.putting two and two together, possibly not getting seven but at

:07:28. > :07:33.least getting six. John. The Mail on Sunday. Tony Blair has been in the

:07:34. > :07:38.Trump White House meeting Jarrod Kushner, the President is's

:07:39. > :07:44.son-in-law to discuss the Middle East and trying to broker some kind

:07:45. > :07:50.of peace settlement which is what Tony Blair was involved with is

:07:51. > :07:55.representative of the quartet for some time until he stood down. An

:07:56. > :08:00.extraordinary story. It does... It's a sort of explain why that

:08:01. > :08:04.remarkable coincidence occurred when Tony Blair was in the same

:08:05. > :08:10.restaurant as Kushner just after Donald Trump's election. The really

:08:11. > :08:14.does seem to be something going on there and it is interesting because

:08:15. > :08:22.Jarrod Kushner and his wife do seem to be the sort of moderate centre of

:08:23. > :08:26.the Donald Trump White House and if you could get some kind of progress

:08:27. > :08:31.in the Middle East and would come from that source. Interesting to

:08:32. > :08:42.know if his side issue here. He will come into contact with Ivanka, who

:08:43. > :08:51.is friends with the former wife of Rupert Murdoch. Eyebrows at the time

:08:52. > :09:00.I believe were raised. Rupert Murdoch read a lot into it. How is

:09:01. > :09:03.Tony Blair regarded? We know about his special relationship with

:09:04. > :09:09.President Bush. How was he regarded amongst the encircle? Again, I

:09:10. > :09:13.think... If Nidal Nigel Farage can be well looked upon, the way the

:09:14. > :09:16.Americans look upon it is that these guys who seem to have knowledge

:09:17. > :09:21.about what they are talking about. Trump likes Nigel because he has the

:09:22. > :09:25.sense of thoughts on Brexit, etc and he likes people who seem to have

:09:26. > :09:32.some subtle level of experience that could help him. Yes. Tony Blair

:09:33. > :09:34.knows a lot about the Middle East. Unquestionably. And, yes, he is

:09:35. > :09:38.extremely well-known and well appreciated in the United that. We

:09:39. > :09:44.will not hang him out to dry as they try to do here. So, Trump thinks

:09:45. > :09:51.that dogmatic black and white level. I can seem very much, you know,

:09:52. > :09:55.taking Tony Blair on. As I said earlier, Donald Trump worth $12

:09:56. > :10:00.billion is probably the only guy who could afford Tony Blair. Let us look

:10:01. > :10:03.at the Sunday Times and the two stories there that caught our

:10:04. > :10:08.attention. The first of which is the picture. Tells the story behind the

:10:09. > :10:14.picture. I stared at this for sometime I first saw it. I'll try to

:10:15. > :10:20.work out why Donald Trump had a slab of wax stuck to his head. It is a

:10:21. > :10:25.map of Palestine. A map of Palestine. It is actually his tie

:10:26. > :10:28.which has blown up in the wind and you can see it as Sellotape on the

:10:29. > :10:33.bottom, which holds it together. What a treat. I need to learn from

:10:34. > :10:37.that because my tie always looks like MSN splits at the bottom. What

:10:38. > :10:46.I obviously need a Sellotape to hold it together. Shops are about to run

:10:47. > :10:52.out of tape. You are stealing all our secrets. In the model world, his

:10:53. > :10:57.wife and daughter would have done just that, they take the back of a

:10:58. > :11:04.jacket to make things fit. Ukip surprisingly, Charlie, with your

:11:05. > :11:11.knowledge of women's undergarment stop they do take down bits. I know

:11:12. > :11:16.that. Let's move on. Sunday Times and the stay with this. The UK story

:11:17. > :11:22.at the Chancellor's ?60 billion Brexit fighting fund. This is the

:11:23. > :11:25.advance spins at a budget from the Chancellor. This is Philip Hammond,

:11:26. > :11:30.the straight no spin Chancellor who is preparing the ground for the

:11:31. > :11:37.budget which is... Fake news! They can use! Is shown to lower the

:11:38. > :11:41.expectations of people because financial forecasts suggest he has

:11:42. > :11:47.more money to play with the new 40 at so he says we cannot risk a

:11:48. > :11:52.spending spree. I take that to mean he can risk a small spending spree.

:11:53. > :11:58.Perhaps he can put money into the NHS and into social care which are

:11:59. > :12:02.the pressure points. He does not want to get people carried away with

:12:03. > :12:06.the idea that he has plenty of money in his back pocket. The question is,

:12:07. > :12:10.of course, when he gets the $60 billion. People say there will be

:12:11. > :12:15.cuts. That exactly the forecast surplus that he may have in 2020 it

:12:16. > :12:25.is not actually real money that he has got yet. That will be a chest

:12:26. > :12:32.mark. OK. -- chestnut. If you asked people what they would do on the

:12:33. > :12:39.money they would tell you... This is, again, not fake news, this is

:12:40. > :12:47.manufactured news with all due respect to this very fine newspaper.

:12:48. > :12:52.They have done one of these opinion surveys, a slow news day, again. An

:12:53. > :12:58.overwhelming majority of the British people want Theresa May to stop cot

:12:59. > :13:06.to corporation tax -- to stop cuts to corporation tax and give the

:13:07. > :13:10.money to the NHS. This is according to an exclusive poll for the

:13:11. > :13:14.Independent. The problem with this again is, yeah, you asked people and

:13:15. > :13:19.they would give you an opinion and it is just that. I do not fault them

:13:20. > :13:22.for that. But sometimes it is not as simple as that. For instance, the

:13:23. > :13:30.cry you normally get from the anti-war people, about how all much

:13:31. > :13:39.the cost is. You can't use our money for other things, does not work that

:13:40. > :13:44.way. Manufactured news is an unkind way to describe opinion polls.

:13:45. > :13:48.Newspapers often do that. This is actually an important story. There

:13:49. > :13:53.is no question that the British people do feel that the NHS is

:13:54. > :13:59.underfunded at the moment. It is in a period of crisis. It had several

:14:00. > :14:03.years of smaller increases than it needs and this is a big test for

:14:04. > :14:07.Philip Hammond in the budget, how much it will give to it. The

:14:08. > :14:13.suggestion in some of the papers are that he will kick the can down the

:14:14. > :14:17.road to use an American phrase, and try and solve the problem in the

:14:18. > :14:29.autumn. I need to bring this to a close. John and Charlie, thank you

:14:30. > :14:34.so much. Do you know what, let's just stop here and head to the Film

:14:35. > :14:52.Review. It is lovely to see both of you.
