:00:00. > :00:00.drive-in set to continue for the rest of the week. Lots of warm

:00:00. > :00:00.sunshine coming through. As a consequence, it will turn very warm,

:00:00. > :00:20.in fact, hot for some. Hello and welcome to our lookahead

:00:21. > :00:35.key papers. -- Hello and welcome to our look

:00:36. > :00:39.ahead to what the papers will be With me are Laura Hughes,

:00:40. > :00:42.Political Correspondent at the Daily Telegraph

:00:43. > :00:44.and Jack Blanchard, Political And there's really only

:00:45. > :00:56.one story in town. And The Guardian reports

:00:57. > :00:58.that the security services are urgently seeking to establish

:00:59. > :01:01.if the Manchester suicide bomber, was acting alone or was

:01:02. > :01:10.linked to a wider group. The Mail reports that troops

:01:11. > :01:13.could be deployed on Britain's streets, in the wake

:01:14. > :01:19.of last night's attack. The Times highlights his link

:01:20. > :01:22.to Libya, saying the bomber recently The Daily Telegraph says

:01:23. > :01:25.thousands of soldiers will be deployed on

:01:26. > :01:27.the streets amid fears The Daily Mirror features

:01:28. > :01:32.pictures of two of those killed at the Manchester

:01:33. > :01:35.Arena, including the youngest victim known

:01:36. > :01:37.so far, 8-year-old, While the Metro also carries

:01:38. > :01:41.a picture of Saffie Roussos and reports that

:01:42. > :01:43.Theresa May has raised the UK terror threat

:01:44. > :01:52.level to 'critical'. First, we have the pictures are two

:01:53. > :01:57.of the victims, Saffie and Georgina. Between them, some words, but also

:01:58. > :01:59.the pop singer, Ariana Grande, that they both went to see it that

:02:00. > :02:05.concert. Both excited. Both delighted. Like so many, hundreds of

:02:06. > :02:11.young girls, were to be at that concert. Lots of women have actually

:02:12. > :02:16.written some amazing pieces today about how significant that moment is

:02:17. > :02:21.for a young teenage girl, to go to her first ever concert, maybe with

:02:22. > :02:27.her friends, or parents have taken her for her birthday, or a Christmas

:02:28. > :02:34.present. And it just showers how artfully brutal this attack was. It

:02:35. > :02:41.was targeting young people enjoying a moment, actively going to see

:02:42. > :02:48.enjoyment, and to have this moment that this attack chose to pick that,

:02:49. > :02:52.you know, it was not even just... He will would have known who would have

:02:53. > :02:55.been in a concert hall. And the vision of parents waiting outside

:02:56. > :03:00.for their young daughters to come out, and then suddenly, it hits,

:03:01. > :03:05.that something is going on, where is my daughter? That moment of panic.

:03:06. > :03:11.It is so extraordinary, as Theresa May made the point, like many have,

:03:12. > :03:16.they targeted young girls in this country who were having this

:03:17. > :03:22.cultural moment, really, that a lot of us have. And they have taken out

:03:23. > :03:29.a way. Yes. At the bottom end of the front page, soldiers on the streets.

:03:30. > :03:33.This is the response from Theresa May, and an announcement in the last

:03:34. > :03:44.hour and a half or so, I think it was, or maybe two hours, Operation

:03:45. > :03:45.Tempura, we go to see guys, military personnel, on the streets, with

:03:46. > :03:55.guns, the police? It was an extraordinary statement

:03:56. > :04:01.that the Prime Minister made, to see her come out and say that another

:04:02. > :04:05.attack could be imminent and to tell is that thousands of troops will be

:04:06. > :04:09.on our streets tomorrow. This is something very rare in Britain. The

:04:10. > :04:13.last time this happened I think was 2003 when there was a perceived

:04:14. > :04:17.threat to Heathrow and that was targeted at the airport. The Prime

:04:18. > :04:21.Minister was talking about troops at football matches, the FA Cup finals

:04:22. > :04:27.coming up, presumably we will see the army outside. What we're used to

:04:28. > :04:31.in the country and it shows how concerned they are that this is not

:04:32. > :04:38.the end of this story. I have travelled to enforce between

:04:39. > :04:41.Brussels for work and getting off the Eurostar over there and there

:04:42. > :04:45.are armoured personnel carriers waiting at the station and troops

:04:46. > :04:49.with machine-guns, it is not a pleasant atmosphere to arrive into

:04:50. > :04:53.and you are immediately on guard and worried, when would you feel safe?

:04:54. > :04:57.You hope that that is not the society we move towards, you hope

:04:58. > :05:01.this is a short term measure while they try and figure out who else was

:05:02. > :05:07.involved in the plot. There has been a state of emergency in Paris for

:05:08. > :05:12.over a year? And how long are we going to have these troops? Theresa

:05:13. > :05:17.May said it could be up to 5000. This kind of brigade at I

:05:18. > :05:20.understand, is on standby for occasions like this and that

:05:21. > :05:25.obviously the reason they have done this is that they decided in a COBRA

:05:26. > :05:31.meeting, that meeting is what triggered it, what are they basing

:05:32. > :05:35.this decision on? That is the question. Do they have intelligence

:05:36. > :05:40.that this man was not acting alone and he was part of a larger network

:05:41. > :05:43.could there still be people out there? What prompted them to do

:05:44. > :05:51.this? Or are they concerned that there may be copycat attacks? It is

:05:52. > :05:57.a transformation that we will see right across the country,

:05:58. > :06:02.potentially. Airports, you know, football stadiums, anywhere where

:06:03. > :06:05.many people will gather. But does it... You talk, Jack, about seeing

:06:06. > :06:09.troops on the streets in Brussels, I have seen them there as well and in

:06:10. > :06:14.Paris. Does that make you feel safer? Different people react

:06:15. > :06:19.differently. Some people feel safer, seeing an armed presence. Certainly

:06:20. > :06:23.not everyone. I have spoken to other people who do not feel safer when

:06:24. > :06:27.they see men with guns wandering around on the streets. It seems like

:06:28. > :06:33.a natural reaction to where we are right now, there is much expert

:06:34. > :06:36.analysis of what this guy did last night who are saying that commie

:06:37. > :06:40.now, this does not tend to be something you do on your own. If

:06:41. > :06:43.there is any possibility that there is a bomb maker out that planning

:06:44. > :06:48.further attacks and they need to do what they can to keep people safe

:06:49. > :06:53.and, especially at big events like we saw last night. My point is when

:06:54. > :06:57.I am in Paris and I see these soldiers with their automatic

:06:58. > :07:01.weapons, I think if there is a suicide bomber who wants to blow

:07:02. > :07:06.himself up, he would just run in blow himself up. The soldier will

:07:07. > :07:11.not have time to turn react, shoot the guide and stop this from

:07:12. > :07:14.happening. While we have a public show of security on the street,

:07:15. > :07:19.there has got to be much more invested when the scenes. Get

:07:20. > :07:23.intelligence gathering. Keeping an eye on suspects. That is where the

:07:24. > :07:29.real work has to take place, isn't it? And one hopes that those

:07:30. > :07:33.resources will now be there. And in fairness to our services they have

:07:34. > :07:38.done a brilliant job over the last 15 years. It is amazing how rare

:07:39. > :07:43.this has been and how long it is taken for one to get through, if you

:07:44. > :07:47.like. We have been told over and over that it is a matter of when,

:07:48. > :07:53.not if, and I think they have foiled a dozen or so big plots. We cannot

:07:54. > :07:55.be critical of the in a general sense. Inevitably, I think many

:07:56. > :08:01.people realise that this day is going to come. We have had a

:08:02. > :08:04.statement from the mayor of London following the COBRA meeting and

:08:05. > :08:09.Theresa May announcing that the threat level has been increased, the

:08:10. > :08:12.Mayor of London has put out a statement saying that the National

:08:13. > :08:16.threat level has been raised to critical an advice of the security

:08:17. > :08:20.experts in the aftermath of the barbaric terrorist attack in

:08:21. > :08:25.Manchester. He says that London stands in solidarity with the people

:08:26. > :08:28.of Manchester, those who seek to harm and divide us through barbaric

:08:29. > :08:32.acts of terrorism will never succeed, we will never be cowed by

:08:33. > :08:40.terrorism. That is the latest from the Mayor of London. On to the Mira

:08:41. > :08:44.now. Georgina Callander there on the front as well Saffie. A similar

:08:45. > :08:48.picture to what was on the front page of the Daily Mail. You are

:08:49. > :08:54.pointing this out, Laura, that this... The softest of targets. A

:08:55. > :09:00.rite of passage for many young girls, going with their mothers to

:09:01. > :09:07.their first concert. And killed by evil, that is what the Daily Mirror

:09:08. > :09:11.has on its front page. The scale of how mini people will been affected

:09:12. > :09:17.by this as well, we have seen in an pictures of two young girls but

:09:18. > :09:21.21,000 young people were at that concert. It is one of the biggest

:09:22. > :09:28.venues, possibly the biggest in North England. I spoke to a group

:09:29. > :09:32.from the outskirts of Manchester, people who know people who know

:09:33. > :09:38.people who was there, somebody's cousins or dads friends daughter

:09:39. > :09:42.everybody will have been affected by this in some way. It is that, you

:09:43. > :09:46.know... Especially for the young people, they will have to live with

:09:47. > :09:50.that. And then it is all over the media and it is everywhere. It is

:09:51. > :09:54.difficult to escape. And given the political campaigning has been

:09:55. > :09:57.stopped, we will wake up tomorrow and see the army potentially on the

:09:58. > :10:05.streets, this is not something that will be easy for anyone to even stop

:10:06. > :10:09.thinking about for a bit. And ever present is danger, obviously, but

:10:10. > :10:15.one that you can put at the back of your mind. But if you see troops on

:10:16. > :10:19.the streets... Given how many people were in that concert, each one of

:10:20. > :10:23.those people will have family and... You think how many people are now

:10:24. > :10:29.going to be looking at their weekend plans. Will they go double concert

:10:30. > :10:32.or festival over the summer? Any of sporting event. Friends of mine in

:10:33. > :10:40.Paris no longer go to a crowded place. What appearance meant to tell

:10:41. > :10:44.their children now? On the front page of the times. Libya terror

:10:45. > :10:51.link. This man, they have a name for him, he was born in Manchester.

:10:52. > :10:56.Salman Abedi. From Libyan stock, his parents came here as refugees in the

:10:57. > :11:02.mid- 90s. This suggestion is that this man flu back from Libya quite

:11:03. > :11:06.recently. That is a new kind of angle that has emerged this evening.

:11:07. > :11:11.That he actually may have just only recently returned on Libya. And what

:11:12. > :11:17.was he doing that in Libya? Was he being trained in a camp to do the

:11:18. > :11:22.things that he has come back to do? There will now be a massive effort

:11:23. > :11:25.out there to work out what he was doing, who he had associations with,

:11:26. > :11:31.who did he fly out and fly backwards? Was he on our radar? Did

:11:32. > :11:35.we know about this movement? Were the security services watching?

:11:36. > :11:40.There will be many questions and, again, Libya is a sore point given

:11:41. > :11:44.Britain's role in the country and questions again will be asked about

:11:45. > :11:50.that. The Guardian as well. Young life stolen by terror. Two pictures

:11:51. > :11:55.of the same girls on the front and on the bottom of their people

:11:56. > :12:04.holding pictures, placards saying that they love Manchester. And,

:12:05. > :12:09.indeed, an interesting phrase now. Manchester, United. Red and blue

:12:10. > :12:14.together. Anyone who watched the footage of the vigil tonight would

:12:15. > :12:18.have been deeply moved by it. I know Manchester quite well and I know how

:12:19. > :12:22.proud people are of the city and how much of a sense of the community

:12:23. > :12:25.there is there. It was incredibly powerful to see so many people out

:12:26. > :12:29.there in the late evening sunshine coming together. I don't if you saw,

:12:30. > :12:33.there was a poet who read our pome about Manchester that is incredibly

:12:34. > :12:38.powerful to watch. Everyone should really see that. I think the new

:12:39. > :12:42.Mayor of the city has done a terrific job today. He is only two

:12:43. > :12:46.weeks into the job and he has spoken for the city. Manchester has been

:12:47. > :12:51.through some thing similar to this before, this is not the first time

:12:52. > :12:55.they had been targeted. Nothing as serious as this, obviously, but it

:12:56. > :12:58.is a city that has come back from this before and will come back

:12:59. > :13:04.again. And there were amazing stories, as there always are and we

:13:05. > :13:08.should focus on them. People, heroes that rushed towards the scene. Was

:13:09. > :13:13.London taxi drivers. People offering free lifts, offering their homes,

:13:14. > :13:17.charging phones, food, water, a homeless man who ran straight into

:13:18. > :13:23.the middle of the scene and I saw a scene earlier, someone set up a page

:13:24. > :13:26.to raise money for him so he has somewhere to sleep tonight. There

:13:27. > :13:31.are extraordinary stories and are always up and it is important that

:13:32. > :13:36.we celebrate that. One coward but thousands... Anyone who went away

:13:37. > :13:42.much today or a tribute... There is one of him and far more of us. Looks

:13:43. > :13:47.at the helpers, it is a nice phrase. You always see it in the footage on

:13:48. > :13:49.the photos, there are always people helping everytime full it is an

:13:50. > :13:54.instinctive action of almost everybody. We only have a couple of

:13:55. > :13:58.minutes left. We will end with the Daily Telegraph. Interesting,

:13:59. > :14:04.commentary on the bottom is there from Allison Pearson. There has been

:14:05. > :14:08.a load of debate about how we as a nation or how any Western nation

:14:09. > :14:14.should respond to this kind of attack. There is a sense for some

:14:15. > :14:21.people that the idea that we should just carry on, soldiers through is

:14:22. > :14:29.not enough. People need to get angry and society needs to get angry. Is

:14:30. > :14:35.there a sense that, perhaps, we as a nation, in dealing with these kinds

:14:36. > :14:39.of attack, are not getting angry enough? Certainly in this commentary

:14:40. > :14:43.it has been made clear and she thinks there should be internment

:14:44. > :14:47.camps. It is belittling to tell people how they need to respond to

:14:48. > :14:52.this and to tell them that they are not angry enough. Everyone I spoke

:14:53. > :14:57.to today is gutted by what happened in Manchester but it is about acting

:14:58. > :15:01.on the right way and the response is important. This terror attack is not

:15:02. > :15:09.a sign of strength, a sign of weakness. The most cowardly thing

:15:10. > :15:13.that you can do. And they will not harm institutional democracy, they

:15:14. > :15:16.will only do that if we react in the wrong way to something like this.

:15:17. > :15:21.Shouting at people that they need to get angry and set off internment

:15:22. > :15:25.clamps is the wrong result. That is precisely what terrorists want you

:15:26. > :15:29.to do and that is why we should not do it. We are angry, of course, but

:15:30. > :15:34.we must be rational and think about how we respond to this in a way that

:15:35. > :15:37.keeps our society is strong. We saw the response of Theresa May, that

:15:38. > :15:40.was quite strong. Whatever you think of her, whatever your alignment, she

:15:41. > :15:46.is good at delivering that message of we will not be cowed we will not

:15:47. > :15:51.be defeated. I think that is actually come as a country, what to

:15:52. > :15:55.do. I remember after the bombings in 2007, everyone was on the tube the

:15:56. > :15:59.next day and carried on. That is how we win. The response of Britain to

:16:00. > :16:03.things like this is magnificent and people on the sidelines shouting

:16:04. > :16:07.that we need to get angry and reacting on the wrong way will not

:16:08. > :16:14.help. Many thanks to both of you to look at the only headline, really

:16:15. > :16:19.the outpouring of grief following that atrocity last night in

:16:20. > :16:29.Manchester. Many thanks for that. That is it for us. Thank
