:00:15. > :00:17.Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers

:00:18. > :00:20.With me are Caroline Wheeler, Deputy Political Editor

:00:21. > :00:30.and Jack Blanchard, Political Editor at the Daily Mirror.

:00:31. > :00:34.Good evening to you both. Thanks for joining us.

:00:35. > :00:36.Tomorrow's front pages, starting with -

:00:37. > :00:39.The Express leads on the build up of tension between the US

:00:40. > :00:42.and North Korea over its weapons programme, after Pyongyang

:00:43. > :00:48.The Times features a photograph of thousands attended a rally

:00:49. > :00:56.in the North Korean capital in support of Kim Jong-un,

:00:57. > :00:59.The Guardian says that a senior Washington officials spent the day

:01:00. > :01:06.trying to mitigate Donald Trump Jr's The Sun's front page is dominated

:01:07. > :01:17.by the story that police paid a convicted child rapist ?10,000

:01:18. > :01:20.to spy on a Newcastle The Metro alleges

:01:21. > :01:23.the trial of the gang could have fallen apart

:01:24. > :01:26.after the judge disallowed the informant's evidence

:01:27. > :01:28.because of his criminal history. This story also features

:01:29. > :01:31.on the front of the i, which claims the head

:01:32. > :01:33.of a government task force says the investigation

:01:34. > :01:35."went way over the line". The Telegraph claims

:01:36. > :01:38.the EU is facing an expenses scandal after senior officials

:01:39. > :02:01.spent tens of thousands of pounds Some impressive opening pages

:02:02. > :02:10.painting a picture of a worrying world. The fact that the child

:02:11. > :02:15.rapist was paid ?10,000 by the police to be an informant. Quite

:02:16. > :02:22.staggering headline for many people to get their head around tomorrow,

:02:23. > :02:27.isn't it? It is. It's been discussed quite a lot in the last couple of

:02:28. > :02:30.hours. One of the things that is interesting about this story is the

:02:31. > :02:39.sun has focused on the amount of money that this individual was paid,

:02:40. > :02:44.who himself was convicted of drugging and raping a girl and

:02:45. > :02:52.inviting a pal to join in. Somebody with that kind of condition was put

:02:53. > :02:59.amongst very vulnerable girls. I draw upon one of the BBC interviews,

:03:00. > :03:02.with the person who led the prosecutions into the Rochdale

:03:03. > :03:10.grooming gang. The line I seized upon is this idea, he said it was

:03:11. > :03:15.something he would never have sanctioned, putting a predator along

:03:16. > :03:20.with other predators alone with prey and not being in a position to

:03:21. > :03:24.manage the risk to children. Are we speaking without knowing the full

:03:25. > :03:29.details of knowing how the investigation was conducted and

:03:30. > :03:33.knowing the full details. Victims of grooming who probably at some time

:03:34. > :03:37.didn't know they were victims of anything. They thought they were

:03:38. > :03:42.friends of the perpetrators. Put yourself in the shoes of the police

:03:43. > :03:45.officers who know that the girls have been raped and can't do

:03:46. > :03:52.anything about it. They must have felt this was the only option. It

:03:53. > :03:56.can't have been an easy choice. These cases have proved very

:03:57. > :03:59.difficult to secure convictions. Police have known these gangs are

:04:00. > :04:04.operating but the number of convictions is very small and it is

:04:05. > :04:07.only in the last few years we have seen any convictions at all. You

:04:08. > :04:11.have to accept that it is very difficult for police to find

:04:12. > :04:16.evidence of what is happening because a lot of these girls haven't

:04:17. > :04:26.in the past been in a position to give good evidence. They found a guy

:04:27. > :04:30.who was able to act as an informer. They held their nose and paid him to

:04:31. > :04:35.let them know what was going on. They have been very heavily

:04:36. > :04:39.criticised but this was a success. They have secured convictions and

:04:40. > :04:48.stop this happening. However much we don't want people to see that people

:04:49. > :04:55.like this have been paid, the judge said this, but secured convictions.

:04:56. > :05:12.A different angle moving the story forward. Police constable attacks

:05:13. > :05:16.failure to shame grooming gangs. The police chief is saying that there is

:05:17. > :05:21.not enough shame and stigma attached to child sexual exportation in some

:05:22. > :05:25.communities, pointing the finger at the Asian community from which these

:05:26. > :05:29.men came. You have to look at the root causes of why this is

:05:30. > :05:34.happening. There are some graphic details in some of the coverage.

:05:35. > :05:42.Some of the background with the men. Some of the things that they had

:05:43. > :05:45.said previously. Talking about white girls as, you know, white trash that

:05:46. > :05:51.were there to meet their sexual gratification. It's a bit worrying

:05:52. > :05:55.two point finger at an entire community. That's only going to

:05:56. > :06:01.stoke up tensions there. Particularly with the police. To

:06:02. > :06:05.label it as an Asian community, we are speaking about a specific group

:06:06. > :06:11.within that community. Not whole swathes of people in that area. What

:06:12. > :06:16.he's saying is that these communities we are talking about,

:06:17. > :06:19.they can deal with the problem from within as well and stop it from

:06:20. > :06:24.happening in the first place. There is a pattern here, whether we like

:06:25. > :06:29.it or not, whether it is controversial or not. There is a

:06:30. > :06:34.pattern with the people involved in these grooming gangs. It is going

:06:35. > :06:39.pretty far to suggest that people in these communities think it is OK.

:06:40. > :06:44.That is not right at all. There are communities trying to deal with this

:06:45. > :06:47.issue. There is a pattern to it and it needs to be addressed and it

:06:48. > :06:53.needs to be addressed at the grassroots level. Turning our

:06:54. > :07:02.attention to another very worrying story on an international scale. A

:07:03. > :07:05.photo there of tens of thousands of North Koreans attending a rally in

:07:06. > :07:11.Pyongyang. Whether they chose to be there or not is another question.

:07:12. > :07:18.Knowing North Korea. They are there in huge numbers. The headline sums

:07:19. > :07:27.up where we are at. Stop all will destroy you, Washington once Kim.

:07:28. > :07:30.This is a very tense situation. We have seen these flare-ups from time

:07:31. > :07:34.to time but never like this before and it feels like it is coming to a

:07:35. > :07:38.head. The reason is because North Korea are on the verge of being able

:07:39. > :07:45.to attack America in a way that America has never felt threatened

:07:46. > :07:48.before with a small state with nuclear weapons. An American

:07:49. > :07:55.president was going to have to deal with this situation. Unfortunately,

:07:56. > :07:58.... The president whose watch this happens on is the most erratic and

:07:59. > :08:02.unpredictable we have ever seen. It's pretty unfortunate for the

:08:03. > :08:07.world because you genuinely don't know what you're going to work up

:08:08. > :08:09.to. We've had presents before issuing very careful worded

:08:10. > :08:14.statements when it comes to North Korea because of the massive

:08:15. > :08:19.implications of any military action. Here we have a president who just

:08:20. > :08:25.tweets what he thinks. Exactly. That is why we see this escalation

:08:26. > :08:29.because of the language being used. Today talking about the size of the

:08:30. > :08:34.nuclear arsenal that the US possesses and can use against North

:08:35. > :08:40.Korea. Sorry to interrupt. Just looking at the Daily Express front

:08:41. > :08:47.page which carries the story. We can still sleep a night, evidently.

:08:48. > :08:52.Nothing to worry about. The Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has

:08:53. > :09:00.been trying to undo some of the potential inflammatory language that

:09:01. > :09:04.Donald has been using. It is something that when you've got

:09:05. > :09:08.Hawaii on a state of alert and being told about sheltering in concrete

:09:09. > :09:11.buildings in the case of an attack. That shows the level of fear that

:09:12. > :09:18.there really is that this is really escalating now. Part of the problem

:09:19. > :09:21.is these mixed signals coming out of Washington. You've got trump

:09:22. > :09:27.boasting about America's nuclear arsenal and threatening to use it.

:09:28. > :09:30.His Foreign Secretary telling Americans that they can sleep well

:09:31. > :09:35.and that the rhetoric isn't important and nothing serious is

:09:36. > :09:39.going to happen. Who are you supposed to believe? Who is North

:09:40. > :09:43.Korea supposed to believe? And actually it is South Korea who are

:09:44. > :09:51.worrying a bit more to night. They are right next door. The capitalist

:09:52. > :09:55.just a few miles from the body and is always a target. It's a worrying

:09:56. > :10:05.place to be right now. -- from the border. Some really good journalism

:10:06. > :10:10.in the Daily Telegraph. Revealing the EU expenses scandal. Senior

:10:11. > :10:16.officials spending thousands on planes and hotels in figures

:10:17. > :10:20.described as tip of the iceberg. One of those stories that some people

:10:21. > :10:25.think this would have come out sooner but these kind of stories

:10:26. > :10:31.take a lot of work. There's been a battle going on in Europe trying to

:10:32. > :10:34.get this data out. There is some freedom of data campaign that has

:10:35. > :10:41.eventually got it. They've only got a tiny bit of it. A couple of months

:10:42. > :10:47.worth of expenses claims. The Commissioner's line is it is far too

:10:48. > :10:51.much paperwork to make it public. Just looking at a couple of months

:10:52. > :10:55.and you can see that Jean-Claude Juncker the head of the European

:10:56. > :11:00.Commission and its over to Rome in a private jet for 25,000 euros for a

:11:01. > :11:05.night in Rome. Well, that's quite a lot of money to be spending when

:11:06. > :11:09.it's taxpayers money. You can imagine that the Daily Telegraph

:11:10. > :11:13.were rubbing their hands with glee. All their Christmas is at once

:11:14. > :11:18.because it is proof of the massive gravy train. Exactly what they've

:11:19. > :11:24.been warning about. For a lot of people it was the reason for Brexit.

:11:25. > :11:28.Now that proof is here that the money we've been paying in is

:11:29. > :11:33.squandered on these over the top expenses. Showing the bloated

:11:34. > :11:38.inflated European Union. That's the story they have got. It's worth

:11:39. > :11:49.noting that the Daily Telegraph were also the paper that broke the

:11:50. > :11:54.expenses scandal in the UK. That changed a lot of the culture in this

:11:55. > :11:59.country. This is about very senior commission officials. MEP expenses

:12:00. > :12:07.are clouded in secrecy. There is not the trans transparency we have now

:12:08. > :12:13.in the UK. We didn't know about the expenses of MPs and gifts and travel

:12:14. > :12:19.and hospitality. Since that light has shone on it, MPs expenses is now

:12:20. > :12:24.very clean. Let's have a look at what a former Prime Minister does

:12:25. > :12:33.when he hasn't got much to do. Ego surfing. There you go. He's gone

:12:34. > :12:40.back to his usual holiday haunt near Padstow. The wet suit is not a

:12:41. > :12:45.flattering look for Mr Cameron. Too many fish and chips. He won't be

:12:46. > :12:50.delighted to see these pictures in the paper tomorrow. And there's been

:12:51. > :12:57.a number of quite unflattering pictures. One with a cigarette. One

:12:58. > :13:05.at a festival. He keeps popping up everywhere. Why are we so fascinated

:13:06. > :13:10.by what David Cameron is up to? Because the pictures are so

:13:11. > :13:14.hilarious. The ones at the music festival. There is something

:13:15. > :13:19.inherently comedy about Cameron. Thank you very much for taking us

:13:20. > :13:25.through the newspapers and thanks to you for watching. You can watch the

:13:26. > :13:28.newspaper review on the eye player. Full details on the BBC News

:13:29. > :13:29.website. That's it. Thanks for
