0:00:00 > 0:00:11Author, I am talking about Edward said and his book about King Lear.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21Hello, welcome to a look ahead to what the papers will be bringing

0:00:21 > 0:00:35tomorrow. Withers are Tony Grue and Caroline frost. We will begin with

0:00:35 > 0:00:38the Metro. It leaves with news that the Church of England is advising

0:00:38 > 0:00:415000 schools that children should be able to choose which six they are

0:00:41 > 0:00:49without judgment or derision. -- sex. The Sun says that two-year-olds

0:00:49 > 0:00:55will get lessons from drag queens. The Guardian says Brexiteers Michael

0:00:55 > 0:01:01Gove and Boris Johnson have set the Prime Minister what it describes as

0:01:01 > 0:01:07an Orwellian set of demands ahead of the Withdrawal Bill vote.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09The Telegraph leads with a plea from the husband

0:01:09 > 0:01:11of the British-Iranian woman imprisoned in Iran.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13Richard Ratcliffe says sacking Boris Johnson for his comments

0:01:13 > 0:01:16on his wife's visit to Iran may make the situation worse.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18It also features the Queen at today's remembrance

0:01:18 > 0:01:28service at the Cenotaph.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31And finally The FT leads with news British spy chiefs are worried

0:01:31 > 0:01:33anti-virus software given away by Barclays to 2 million

0:01:33 > 0:01:38of their customers could be used as an intelligence-gathering tool

0:01:38 > 0:01:39by the Russian government. as an intelligence-gathering tool

0:01:39 > 0:01:41It also covers Donald Trump's meeting

0:01:41 > 0:01:42with the Filippino counterpart in Manila yesterday.

0:01:42 > 0:01:48Let's begin with Iran and Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe being held on

0:01:48 > 0:01:53charges of spying. Her family say she was just there on holiday. Here

0:01:53 > 0:01:58it is in the Telegraph. Don't axe Boris over my wife's Iran jail

0:01:58 > 0:02:03shambles. A statement Richard Ratcliffe has made comment part

0:02:03 > 0:02:08about his wife's medical condition? It appears she has undergone medical

0:02:08 > 0:02:12tests and there are concerns that she may have cancer. I think the

0:02:12 > 0:02:15tests are preliminary. I agree, I don't think Boris Johnson should be

0:02:15 > 0:02:20sacked. I think he should have resigned. He sat before a committee

0:02:20 > 0:02:27of Parliament and repeated the lies of the Iranian regime, that she was

0:02:27 > 0:02:30training journalists, not just visiting family. He refused to

0:02:30 > 0:02:35apologise. Michael Gove seems to be casting aspersions as well. I'm not

0:02:35 > 0:02:38sure if that is loose language, but it looks like the Environment

0:02:38 > 0:02:42Secretary is more concerned about defending the Foreign Secretary than

0:02:42 > 0:02:46protecting a British national. I think Foreign Secretary is one of

0:02:46 > 0:02:53the key posts, where they should be careful with their language. Boris

0:02:53 > 0:02:58Johnson has shown he does not do this. She was brought in front of a

0:02:58 > 0:03:01conservative judge and she could be imprisoned for an extra five years.

0:03:01 > 0:03:07Her husband is saying, Boris Johnson might be able to help here.I think

0:03:07 > 0:03:10is probably feeling extremely shaken by the events of the last few days.

0:03:10 > 0:03:16Perhaps thinking stop messing. It does seem like every single time a

0:03:16 > 0:03:18politician speaks out on this it doesn't seem to be helping their

0:03:18 > 0:03:24case. Now he is clearly very concerned about his wife's health.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27Hopefully, I imagine he is thinking behind the scenes the dramatic

0:03:27 > 0:03:32channels might affect more of an improvement in his wife's

0:03:32 > 0:03:35circumstances than anything that a politician is saying up front and

0:03:35 > 0:03:39centre. Michael Gove didn't do anything, perhaps the path of good

0:03:39 > 0:03:42intentions, but it led to him saying I am not sure what she was doing

0:03:42 > 0:03:45there, which has been very clear in the last few days. Her family have

0:03:45 > 0:03:49said exactly what you was doing when she was on holiday. So now we have

0:03:49 > 0:03:53the added convocation. This is a story, as Tony said, it has been

0:03:53 > 0:03:58going on for weeks now behind the scenes. This story seemed to go

0:03:58 > 0:04:03away. Boris Johnson's blooper was overshadowed by Priti Patel and it

0:04:03 > 0:04:06seems to be coming back into the main headlines again. They can put

0:04:06 > 0:04:11it right with some emphatic language, couldn't they? The I am

0:04:11 > 0:04:16not sure they can. By the way, this is Michael Gove. He is going on

0:04:16 > 0:04:21television and saying that criticism of the Foreign Secretary is helping

0:04:21 > 0:04:25the Iranians. That is false equivalence. I see two people more

0:04:25 > 0:04:28interested in their jobs than the national interest and the welfare of

0:04:28 > 0:04:30British citizens and it makes me very sad.

0:04:34 > 0:04:40The, the church saying let kids choose their gender. Being given to

0:04:40 > 0:04:44nearly 5000 schools, this guidance? It seems to be a very progressive

0:04:44 > 0:04:48move by the Church of England, who perhaps want to be seen to be on the

0:04:48 > 0:04:53front foot of history. Often we see that they have defied all sorts of

0:04:53 > 0:04:57battles about women priests, what the view is on same-sex marriages.

0:04:57 > 0:05:01Clearly, this is a Zeitgeist issue that they have decided they will own

0:05:01 > 0:05:07and they are saying that children should be allowed to express their

0:05:07 > 0:05:10gender in a climate that black sphere, where they can experiment

0:05:10 > 0:05:17creatively and go through all of the changes that young children who wish

0:05:17 > 0:05:21to identify and another gender are making trips to clinics, and they

0:05:21 > 0:05:25have jumped on this and seen it as a topic that they can be seen to be

0:05:25 > 0:05:28helped.It is massively controversial, the subject. People

0:05:28 > 0:05:32have strong views. This is really to say that whatever children choose,

0:05:32 > 0:05:36how they choose to describe themselves, they should be bullied

0:05:36 > 0:05:43for it?It is written in church language, the child may choose the

0:05:43 > 0:05:47tutu, the tiara, the fireman's helmet. The Church of England, apart

0:05:47 > 0:05:54from being religious, it is also an education provider. The churches

0:05:54 > 0:05:56issuing guidelines because they're worried they will get sued the

0:05:56 > 0:06:04parents of transgender children. So, it is not a theological issue, it is

0:06:04 > 0:06:09legal. It is the church, as a significant education provider,

0:06:09 > 0:06:12issuing guidelines to schools. Many of them educate children that are

0:06:12 > 0:06:16not from the Church of England. Saying, look, the transgender thing,

0:06:16 > 0:06:19we need to make sure we are not pressing children into gender

0:06:19 > 0:06:25expression. Then evangelical Christians, there is a lady from the

0:06:25 > 0:06:28Christian Law Centre, they are often involved in fighting for what they

0:06:28 > 0:06:33see as the rights of Christians. They say any dissent or a slip of

0:06:33 > 0:06:38the tongue will be labelled hateful. I am not sure why she has taken such

0:06:38 > 0:06:43an extreme position on what seems to be just saying that children should

0:06:43 > 0:06:46be able to express themselves how they want to. There is no mention of

0:06:46 > 0:06:50parents.Not at all.It is just about primary schools, nursery

0:06:50 > 0:06:59schools and teachers, the ways in which schools should approach. There

0:06:59 > 0:07:02appear to be more young people expressing feelings that may be in

0:07:02 > 0:07:10the wrong gender. The fact it is such a big issue means it will make

0:07:10 > 0:07:12the front page of every paper, even though they are just issuing

0:07:12 > 0:07:16guidance that most people would think is reasonable. It comes

0:07:16 > 0:07:19against the background of two days ago in the Daily Mail, jumping on a

0:07:19 > 0:07:24story where a schoolteacher addressed a pupil by the wrong

0:07:24 > 0:07:28gender and allegedly lost his job as a result. Clearly it is a hot brick

0:07:28 > 0:07:34topic.The Guardian, a couple Brexit stories. Can't go very far into the

0:07:34 > 0:07:39paper review without one, can we? Brexit is to send the PM Orwellian

0:07:39 > 0:07:43set of demands. This is a memo that is Mail on Sunday was reporting

0:07:43 > 0:07:46today. How is this anything more than a retread of that? It's not,

0:07:46 > 0:07:54really. The memo was sent some weeks ago. It also shows the impossible

0:07:54 > 0:07:56situation Prime Minister is in. As you are aware, the Withdrawal Bill

0:07:56 > 0:07:59comes back to the House of Commons on Tuesday. The return has been

0:07:59 > 0:08:04delayed, as Mrs May try to get her rebels around the table and do a

0:08:04 > 0:08:09deal. The reason that the part of the Bill's process is critical, it

0:08:09 > 0:08:13is where they can start putting amendments forward, it is the stage

0:08:13 > 0:08:18where they can start changing things. It says the Prime Minister

0:08:18 > 0:08:22is already struggling with the EU Withdrawal Bill, with Labour

0:08:22 > 0:08:24expected to join Tory rebels and inflict a series of defeats. Theresa

0:08:24 > 0:08:28May does not have a majority. She has a confidence and supply

0:08:28 > 0:08:31arrangement with the DUP, but it only takes a small number of her own

0:08:31 > 0:08:35MPs to rebel for her to lose votes and House of Commons. I think we are

0:08:35 > 0:08:38coming up to the stage now where Tory MPs are going to have to ask

0:08:38 > 0:08:44themselves if they are going to be pragmatic and act in the national

0:08:44 > 0:08:47interests, or go for the ideology of the hard Brexit. I have to say,

0:08:47 > 0:08:49there is no consensus in the Conservative Party for either

0:08:49 > 0:08:53approach. I think it will get really messy. That is before it arrives in

0:08:53 > 0:08:55House of Lords, where it will get even messier. The Lords will say

0:08:55 > 0:09:00they are acting in the national interest.Another Brexit story, and

0:09:00 > 0:09:10the Telegraph, which I have put to the back of the pile. Aiming at the

0:09:10 > 0:09:14pets of Britain. They know how to get us. Michel Barnier hints that

0:09:14 > 0:09:19there will be a pet travel ban because the Brexit talks have gone

0:09:19 > 0:09:23to the dogs?It is where everybody stops. It is like the TV adverts

0:09:23 > 0:09:27where the houses for sale, the car is for sale, have you really thought

0:09:27 > 0:09:31about this? This is it. Michel Barnier is threatening that should

0:09:31 > 0:09:36there be no deal, one of the very first effect will be that pet

0:09:36 > 0:09:39passports may be a thing of the past and that we will not be able to take

0:09:39 > 0:09:43our prized pooches across the Channel. That will obviously stop

0:09:43 > 0:09:50anybody who was thinking of Brexiting in their tracks. There is

0:09:50 > 0:09:55an episode of Yes, Prime Minister, the Prime Minister getting a gift

0:09:55 > 0:10:00from the Queen of France, and the issue of quarantine. I imagine them

0:10:00 > 0:10:05sitting in Brussels, what will really wind up the English? Dogs.It

0:10:05 > 0:10:09wasn't that long ago that we couldn't go to and fro across the

0:10:09 > 0:10:14Channel.It was only 2015 where it was brought in. It is part of upping

0:10:14 > 0:10:18the ante. We are going to see more of that. The tension is ratcheting

0:10:18 > 0:10:21up and we are getting to the stage of Michel Barnier issuing demands

0:10:21 > 0:10:26and saying that we have to cough up more money or there will not be

0:10:26 > 0:10:30progress on trade talks. The other end, we have the hard Brexit years

0:10:30 > 0:10:34saying we don't need a trade. Jacob Rees-Mogg...It wouldn't be complete

0:10:34 > 0:10:42without a quote from him.He is basically all for keeping rabid

0:10:42 > 0:10:46Eurocrat out of the UK. He said a fear of rabies was more of a concern

0:10:46 > 0:10:53than UK dogs going to Europe. It was, but we know that these things

0:10:53 > 0:10:57work both ways. Let's go to the Financial Times. The picture story.

0:10:57 > 0:11:01Two chaps enjoying a glass of what looks like it is probably champagne,

0:11:01 > 0:11:06judging by the glasses.

0:11:06 > 0:11:10They have a lot in common, some might argue, with their iconoclastic

0:11:10 > 0:11:19styles.This usually big fans of each other. The whole goodwill tour

0:11:19 > 0:11:22seems to be a stretch across an ice rink, can I just get to the other

0:11:22 > 0:11:26side without cutting anybody's fingers off or falling over? It

0:11:26 > 0:11:31seems to be one of his better days. We have seen some tweets about North

0:11:31 > 0:11:34Korea, we have seen him pretty much dodging what has been going on in

0:11:34 > 0:11:39the States. He does seem to be not upsetting the fish, as he did when

0:11:39 > 0:11:44he visited the previous country. He seems to be finding a like-minded

0:11:44 > 0:11:48soul in Duterte. Both of them swept to power in elections last year on

0:11:48 > 0:11:53the strength of iconoclastic policies.A very controversial pair.

0:11:53 > 0:12:03The little similarity is that they said they would shake things up. In

0:12:03 > 0:12:07Duterte's case, it led to lots of extrajudicial murders. The

0:12:07 > 0:12:12international community condemned him for that, Donald Trump goes and

0:12:12 > 0:12:15rinse with him, he doesn't drink, so I don't know what is in that class.

0:12:15 > 0:12:19Nobody else would be photographed with this man, no otherworldly that.

0:12:19 > 0:12:23But it is part of a trip in which the President of the United States

0:12:23 > 0:12:28says he believes the President of Russia, a former KGB agent, more

0:12:28 > 0:12:33than the entirety of his intelligence and security apparatus.

0:12:33 > 0:12:37We sometimes think he is a bit of a buffoon, this shows you the really

0:12:37 > 0:12:43worrying side of his policies. The coarsening of America's reputation.

0:12:43 > 0:12:52Shall we finish with The Metro? Rita Ora, in a bathrobe with a towel on

0:12:52 > 0:12:58her head? I'm sorry, is this what we are meant to be wearing? You have

0:12:58 > 0:13:02missed the narrative. This is post fashion fashion. This is a

0:13:02 > 0:13:13deconstruction of the preparations involve one A-lister diva to get on

0:13:13 > 0:13:21the red carpet.Multiple costume changes? I have rarely seen anybody

0:13:21 > 0:13:26looking quite so good in a bathrobe. You should see me in the morning! I

0:13:26 > 0:13:31am concerned what she was doing at the European Medicines Agency. We

0:13:31 > 0:13:37will get some clarification. We all need a narrative when we get

0:13:37 > 0:13:41trashed.It is not enough, you have seen some of the things that come to

0:13:41 > 0:13:46the fore at the gala, this is just an extension of that. It is high

0:13:46 > 0:13:54fashion.Very low maintenance.Very white whites. I don't know which

0:13:54 > 0:13:58washing powder she uses, but highly recommended. I don't pretend to

0:13:58 > 0:14:06understand. We will stop. That is it for the papers tonight. On the BBC

0:14:06 > 0:14:08News website, you can read a detailed review of the paper seven

0:14:08 > 0:14:14days a week. We are there as well, each night's edition is posted

0:14:14 > 0:14:19shortly after we finish and it is on iPlayer. Thank you to Tony and

0:14:19 > 0:14:23Caroline. Look at that lovely shot. We are back at 11.30. Now Meet The

0:14:23 > 0:14:30Author.
