0:00:11 > 0:00:12Hello.

0:00:12 > 0:00:13This is BBC News.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16We'll be taking a look at tomorrow mornings papers in a moment -

0:00:16 > 0:00:17first the headlines.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20There's growing criticism over the actions of two former police

0:00:20 > 0:00:22officers who leaked allegations that pornographic images had been

0:00:22 > 0:00:24found on a work computer of the Cabinet minister,

0:00:24 > 0:00:31Damian Green.

0:00:31 > 0:00:35Mr Green has denied looking at or downloading pornography.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38President Trump has insisted that the actions of his former

0:00:38 > 0:00:40national security adviser, Michael Flynn, were lawful -

0:00:40 > 0:00:42but he had to sack him because he had lied

0:00:42 > 0:00:47to the vice-president and the FBI.

0:00:47 > 0:00:51The family of a 14-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a car

0:00:51 > 0:00:58on the M67 motorway have said they are "completely heartbroken".

0:00:58 > 0:01:02The members of the border of the government's social mobility

0:01:02 > 0:01:09commission have resigned. The day I pray they have cited a lack of

0:01:09 > 0:01:15leadership. -- they have cited a lack of leadership.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18The family of a 14-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a car

0:01:18 > 0:01:21on the M67 motorway have said they are "completely heartbroken".

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Samuel Berkley was found critically injured near junction three at Hyde

0:01:24 > 0:01:25yesterday afternoon.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Barclays Bank says it will no longer offer a Russian anti-virus software

0:01:27 > 0:01:30programme free to customers after warnings it could be

0:01:30 > 0:01:31exploited by the Kremlin.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34Kaspersky Lab denies any links to the Russian government.

0:01:34 > 0:01:49And Meet The Author this week I'm joined by the author Kate Mozley.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Hello, and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be

0:02:00 > 0:02:03bringing us tomorrow.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05With me are the economics commentator and author

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Dharshini David and the US broadcaster and commentator

0:02:07 > 0:02:08Charlie Wolf.

0:02:08 > 0:02:18Tomorrow's front pages.

0:02:19 > 0:02:24The Observer leads with the news that Alan Milburn has resigned in

0:02:24 > 0:02:27protest at the government's policies.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29The Sunday Times goes with the same story,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32reporting that Mr Milburn accused ministers of betraying the people

0:02:32 > 0:02:33who voted for Brexit.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36The Mail on Sunday says a Labour peer has been

0:02:36 > 0:02:38wrongly claiming expenses - the peer says he will pay

0:02:38 > 0:02:39some of the money back.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41The Sunday Telegraph reports on dissent within

0:02:41 > 0:02:43the Conservative Party over the role EU courts will play

0:02:43 > 0:02:45in the UK after Brexit.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48And the Sunday Express claims the upcoming royal wedding will lift

0:02:48 > 0:02:51the economy by half a billion pounds and boost the Uk's diplomatic

0:02:51 > 0:02:58relationship with the United States

0:02:58 > 0:03:04So let's begin.

0:03:04 > 0:03:14Will you start us off, The Observer and this front-page story. Remind

0:03:14 > 0:03:19us, social mobility, what does that mean?It means you start in one

0:03:19 > 0:03:24place and can you end up better off than your beginnings suggest. To be

0:03:24 > 0:03:29honest, this is Alan Milburn, it's not just him. He's saying all three

0:03:29 > 0:03:31of his fellow commissioners are quitting because they feel

0:03:31 > 0:03:37frustrated. Not enough is being done and it is being sidelined because of

0:03:37 > 0:03:41Brexit. Ironically they say the people who they should be focusing

0:03:41 > 0:03:46on the people who aren't seeing social mobility and are

0:03:46 > 0:03:49disproportionately located in areas who voted for Brexit and they are

0:03:49 > 0:03:53missing out. The statistics are pretty bleak. If you look at someone

0:03:53 > 0:03:57born in the 1980s, the first generation who aren't expected to be

0:03:57 > 0:04:02better off than the generation before them. Real earnings are going

0:04:02 > 0:04:07to flat line in the next 20 years. One wonders if this is more because

0:04:07 > 0:04:11they have so many other priorities, they've got Brexit to worry about

0:04:11 > 0:04:16and other economic things and this has been pushed the background, or

0:04:16 > 0:04:22is this a longer term thing?I am surprised they are over occupied

0:04:22 > 0:04:28with Brexit, as much as I am in favour of it. It's harder than they

0:04:28 > 0:04:36thought. I guess the thing for me is, Brexit actually should be

0:04:36 > 0:04:45helping pick a social mobility is based on productivity and... Forgive

0:04:45 > 0:04:50me, my mind has gone... Getting work and progressing and what have you.

0:04:50 > 0:04:57Making progress.And opportunity to make money.That's what's missing. I

0:04:57 > 0:05:00think it's easier solved if you can just get it out of the way and let

0:05:00 > 0:05:07companies grow and expand. We'll be talking about Trump's tax plan. One

0:05:07 > 0:05:12of the things is dropping the tax rates and getting it to where

0:05:12 > 0:05:16businesses can hire. Let businesses be profitable.Dharshini, Alan

0:05:16 > 0:05:26Milburn being quoted the saying setting out a proposition to do

0:05:26 > 0:05:30something about this and then not doing it is almost worse than not

0:05:30 > 0:05:34doing anything about it at. Yellow Theresa May came into office and

0:05:34 > 0:05:38said she was all about creating Britain for everyone.Acknowledging

0:05:38 > 0:05:45some people feel left out of the progress being made. What hearing

0:05:45 > 0:05:50here is we need to hear about Abe Britain that is going to be

0:05:50 > 0:05:53successful in the long and social mobility is part and parcel. On the

0:05:53 > 0:05:57other hand these are people who are well qualified to do the job, why

0:05:57 > 0:06:09resign?Prosperity is a circle, it leads to productivity which leads

0:06:09 > 0:06:15to...And that leads us to what Donald Trump has been doing. The

0:06:15 > 0:06:21Sunday Telegraph says his joy at fight for the biggest tax cut...

0:06:21 > 0:06:31It's not perfect. Anything is a step forward. The tax system in America

0:06:31 > 0:06:36as it is here, I do know how many hundreds of thousands of pages in

0:06:36 > 0:06:43the UK tax code?A huge number of books. No one wants to do a tax

0:06:43 > 0:06:51return in the US.Not at all. It shouldn't be that way...Charlie,

0:06:51 > 0:06:55corporation tax, that's the tax companies pay. It's going to be

0:06:55 > 0:07:00dropped from 35 to 20%. It's incentivising some perhaps but

0:07:00 > 0:07:04that's an enormous cut the business. What about the small man as they

0:07:04 > 0:07:13used to cool it in America, the ordinary people?Companies

0:07:13 > 0:07:18effectively don't pay tax. What happens if tax is figured out by

0:07:18 > 0:07:25your accountants and everything goes into the final cost. Most of it get

0:07:25 > 0:07:31past onto the consumer. So you say you love it so people will pay it?

0:07:31 > 0:07:34You can hire more people be prosperous. The other thing is when

0:07:34 > 0:07:45Trump as a candidate was talking about 6 trillion offshore... This

0:07:45 > 0:07:49isn't people hiding it away, this is money they would like to bring back

0:07:49 > 0:07:52to businesses but it's too expensive.It doesn't serve them to

0:07:52 > 0:07:58keep their businesses based in the US.Dharshini, it says the move past

0:07:58 > 0:08:03pressure on Britain to increase its competitiveness. There could be a

0:08:03 > 0:08:08race to the bottom in tax terms. There always is a race going on. We

0:08:08 > 0:08:13are due to cut our corporation tax rate down to 17% in the next couple

0:08:13 > 0:08:17of years. On the other side the argument is can we really afford

0:08:17 > 0:08:22this? Do we really want to be cutting our tax rates now knowing

0:08:22 > 0:08:27that the coffers are looking threadbare.Going back to the

0:08:27 > 0:08:31situation in America, what about the people. It suggested they will get

0:08:31 > 0:08:35some but they aren't going to be as good as they think they are. In a

0:08:35 > 0:08:38couple of years' time, I was speaking to a professor in Virginia

0:08:38 > 0:08:44earlier on, he said people will realise Mr Trump didn't deliver what

0:08:44 > 0:08:51he said he would. The big story I'm getting is people complaining it

0:08:51 > 0:08:54will increase the debt, I don't think it will because if you look

0:08:54 > 0:09:02back to the Ronald Reagan years, businesses grow so much that you're

0:09:02 > 0:09:10bringing in more revenue at a lower rate.Let's stick with Donald Trump.

0:09:10 > 0:09:14The Sunday Times front page. It's not the main story. It's a reference

0:09:14 > 0:09:18in the cartoon.

0:09:21 > 0:09:25I expect Charlie knows the answer. What is happening on February the

0:09:25 > 0:09:3326th?Working visit, is this what's going on? There's no details on

0:09:33 > 0:09:50this.The working visit being the opening of the new American embassy.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54That is ostensibly what this is all about. There have been rumours for a

0:09:54 > 0:10:02few days and this will be hugely controversial for all the reasons...

0:10:02 > 0:10:07If he coming?I don't find Donald Trump to be someone who's going to

0:10:07 > 0:10:13be scared of a protest or two. It probably protest back at them.

0:10:13 > 0:10:18Knowing Donald Trump you'll say it was the biggest, beautiful protest,

0:10:18 > 0:10:27the biggest protest I've ever had. He went to France of course. On the

0:10:27 > 0:10:31other hand he hasn't been attacking the French the way he has the

0:10:31 > 0:10:35British in the last few days and social media. This has been so

0:10:35 > 0:10:49overplayed and it's such a shame. He's retweeting them...What he's

0:10:49 > 0:10:56retweeted has been from Ann Coulter. I don't expect him to know what

0:10:56 > 0:11:04Britain First is.Why not? He's the president of the United States.We

0:11:04 > 0:11:08seem to be going back over an old story. Surely he could have said I'd

0:11:08 > 0:11:11slightly misunderstood the thought of people they are, nevertheless

0:11:11 > 0:11:16there is a problem. But he went on to insult our Prime Minister. The

0:11:16 > 0:11:19Prime Minister, with all due respect, tweeted to him. I would

0:11:19 > 0:11:25have thought they could have picked up the telephone and said Donald,

0:11:25 > 0:11:29maybe you didn't realise this group is and what you think it is.Maybe

0:11:29 > 0:11:38she won't get through to him.Maybe! We are speculating about

0:11:38 > 0:11:44conversations we don't know much about. The Sunday Telegraph again.

0:11:44 > 0:11:51Charlie, Tories at war over European judges.Theresa May is heading

0:11:51 > 0:11:57towards a rift with some of them because she's trying to make this

0:11:57 > 0:12:04grand compromise, part of which would be to allow European judges on

0:12:04 > 0:12:09the ECJ which is the European Court of Justice, a separate entity from

0:12:09 > 0:12:15the EU, that they would be able to rule on certain immigration...And

0:12:15 > 0:12:24trade disputes.If you are a sovereign nation you are a sovereign

0:12:24 > 0:12:33nation. You don't want to be answering to the European Union at

0:12:33 > 0:12:42the back door. The first paragraph talks about effectively failing to

0:12:42 > 0:12:46withdraw Britain from the European Union, that's a bit of a stretch.It

0:12:46 > 0:12:51is a bit of a stretch.But it is a big issue.It is a huge issue and is

0:12:51 > 0:13:00one of the Iain Duncan Smith.Very much a leading Brexiteer.Said he

0:13:00 > 0:13:04would say that. But it is quite a stark warning when you put it like

0:13:04 > 0:13:08that. That's why it appears there on the front page. Is this just a

0:13:08 > 0:13:14warning shot and another stage in the war of words? Probably. This

0:13:14 > 0:13:20business about the laws that have come in from Europe, it is central

0:13:20 > 0:13:24to Brexit for many people. It really is. When you ask people what they

0:13:24 > 0:13:27voted for when they voted Brexit I'm sure that would come into it.

0:13:27 > 0:13:31There's been all these arguments about what we are going to get

0:13:31 > 0:13:35economically, no one would have known. Even if we lost it all, to me

0:13:35 > 0:13:42the central argument was is that I want to be a sovereign nation. It

0:13:42 > 0:13:48has been a sovereign nation. I don't expect anybody from Europe to be

0:13:48 > 0:13:51ruling on British law, I wouldn't expect anyone from America to be

0:13:51 > 0:13:55ruling on British law. It may seem small but it's an important point

0:13:55 > 0:14:01principal.I guess it depends which side you voted for how you perceive

0:14:01 > 0:14:06this.Let's move on, Dharshini start-ups and this one. This is The

0:14:06 > 0:14:15Observer front-page story about Momentum and observations from Roy

0:14:15 > 0:14:20Hattersley saying it's leading to Labour's worst crisis. Is important

0:14:20 > 0:14:24to say Roy Hattersley very much on the left of his party in his days.

0:14:24 > 0:14:28This is another blast from the past. We had Alan Milburn and now Roy

0:14:28 > 0:14:32Hattersley. Warning that perhaps we have got Momentum trying to

0:14:32 > 0:14:36undermine what's going on in the Labour Party, trying to force up the

0:14:36 > 0:14:40moderates. Not just MPs but councillors as well and therefore

0:14:40 > 0:14:44somehow edged the party further to the left, effectively manoeuvre a

0:14:44 > 0:14:55takeover. This is right next to the story about the social mobility tsar

0:14:55 > 0:15:10quitting. This is about both parties...Momentum ...

0:15:10 > 0:15:13Organisations need diversity. They need a culture that holds them

0:15:13 > 0:15:17together but at the same time they need diversity so you have different

0:15:17 > 0:15:22points of view. The strength of the Labour Party itself, if everyone is

0:15:22 > 0:15:26thinking like a radical Momentum member, first off I don't think

0:15:26 > 0:15:31that's going to garner votes. It wouldn't sway me. Also I did think

0:15:31 > 0:15:36it's going to help a party to grow and be able to challenge itself. If

0:15:36 > 0:15:40you have different wings of a party, at least if you are discussing an

0:15:40 > 0:15:43issue I want to hear from the left-wing side of the Conservative

0:15:43 > 0:15:47Party but they have to say on an issue versus right-wing and be able

0:15:47 > 0:15:53to debate within a party. If Momentum is going to take over...

0:15:53 > 0:16:03Lets end on a cheerful note. If the royal wedding upcoming.Everything

0:16:03 > 0:16:08we just said was the minor stories, this is the bulk of the news! The

0:16:08 > 0:16:15Mail on Sunday says it has Meghan's unseen family photo album. We

0:16:15 > 0:16:23cheerful about this? This is the greatest economic side ever seen.

0:16:23 > 0:16:31Meghan's wedding president will boost the UK economy by £500

0:16:31 > 0:16:35million.It's a lovely feel good story. I find this funny, think of

0:16:35 > 0:16:40the number and put a couple of zeros on the end and that's how much

0:16:40 > 0:16:42better we are feeling. This is something that is going to run and

0:16:42 > 0:16:46run but when you look at the stories across the rest of the pages...The

0:16:46 > 0:16:53Americans will come over for that. The hotels are already booked up in

0:16:53 > 0:16:58Windsor!LAUGHTER Thank you both.

0:16:58 > 0:17:03That's it for The Papers this hour.

0:17:03 > 0:17:05Thank you Dharshini and Charlie, you'll both be back at 11.30

0:17:05 > 0:17:08for another look at the stories making the news tomorrow.

0:17:08 > 0:17:10Coming up next - Meet the Author.
