0:00:17 > 0:00:20Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be

0:00:20 > 0:00:21bringing us tomorrow.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24With me are Jo Phillips, political commentator and Nigel Nelson,

0:00:24 > 0:00:31Political Editor of Sunday Mirror and Sunday People.

0:00:31 > 0:00:37A chance to cut up each -- to catch up with them because they've had a

0:00:37 > 0:00:38bit of a head start.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Tomorrow's front pages then, starting with...

0:00:40 > 0:00:43The Times says that Paedophiles are using YouTube as a 'shop window'

0:00:43 > 0:00:44to showcase abused children.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46The Telegraph says that police have sparked an increase in shoplifting

0:00:46 > 0:00:48by not investigating thefts under £200.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50The Guardian leads with Tory MPs demanding that

0:00:50 > 0:00:51Chancellor Phillip Hammond reveal the Brexit research papers

0:00:52 > 0:00:53looking at trade outcomes.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55Brexit also fronts The "i" - following comments from

0:00:55 > 0:00:56the Conservative Mayor of the West Midlands

0:00:56 > 0:01:00warning against a Hard Brexit.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02The case of Laura Plummer, the British women jailed

0:01:02 > 0:01:03in Egypt leads The Mirror.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05The Financial Times says that the retail sector

0:01:05 > 0:01:08is disappointed at the drop in footfall for the traditional

0:01:08 > 0:01:09boxing day sales.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11The Sun leads with British Troops being asked to use

0:01:11 > 0:01:13gender neutral words - dubbing it the PC Brigade.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15And The Express says a stroll in the garden

0:01:15 > 0:01:16will help fight dementia.

0:01:16 > 0:01:26So let's begin.

0:01:31 > 0:01:37Good that you have joined us for the rest of the festivities. What else

0:01:37 > 0:01:43would you be doing! Just stuffing yourself with cold turkey!Talking

0:01:43 > 0:01:48about some of these stories seem to have been reheated! Well we end the

0:01:48 > 0:01:55year as we began talking about Brexit. Tell us about, we will talk

0:01:55 > 0:02:03about that in a moment. But first the case of Laura Plummer. Jailed

0:02:03 > 0:02:09for taking drugs into Egypt.So she's 33, she comes from Hull City,

0:02:09 > 0:02:15she went out in October to see her partner and she was arrested on

0:02:15 > 0:02:21suspicion of trafficking drugs at the airport. She was found with 290

0:02:21 > 0:02:25tramadol tablets in her luggage which she claims were for her

0:02:25 > 0:02:30partner who suffers from chronic back pain. Tramadol is a very heavy

0:02:30 > 0:02:34duty pain reliever which you can only get in this country in

0:02:34 > 0:02:39prescription. Her family obviously devastated, she has been in a jail

0:02:39 > 0:02:43in a communal cell since being arrested in October and clearly very

0:02:43 > 0:02:48distressing. But there are I think questions about, if the prescription

0:02:48 > 0:02:55for tramadol was not for her then who was at four. Because you can

0:02:55 > 0:02:57take prescription drugs legally providing you can prove that they

0:02:57 > 0:03:03are for you and you have only the amount you need.So you think if she

0:03:03 > 0:03:08had been able to accept a prescription, present bad, that

0:03:08 > 0:03:13would have helped her case?Exactly and another question about 290

0:03:13 > 0:03:20tablets being quite a lot. I'm sure for her family it is devastating and

0:03:20 > 0:03:28for her as well but there seems to be something not quite right. The

0:03:28 > 0:03:31Guardian straightforward and factual. The mirrored taking a more

0:03:31 > 0:03:35judgmental view. That is right and I think the contrast is interesting.

0:03:35 > 0:03:44The mirror pretty much more on the side of Laura Plummer, our girl will

0:03:44 > 0:03:47die in hellhole jail. Not talking about the rights and wrongs of the

0:03:47 > 0:03:51case are much as more of an appeal for clemency. One of the things that

0:03:51 > 0:03:58comes out from this is that we all need to be aware of what we can take

0:03:58 > 0:04:02into someone else's country and what we cannot. The advice on the Foreign

0:04:02 > 0:04:08Office website. If you are taking drugs in the prescription drugs

0:04:08 > 0:04:12albeit, to find out if they are legal in the country you're going

0:04:12 > 0:04:19to.People might not necessarily think about it.According to an

0:04:19 > 0:04:25interview with her MBE earlier today on Radio 4, Karl Turner, that

0:04:25 > 0:04:28information may only went up on the Foreign Office website since her

0:04:28 > 0:04:36arrest. But you should still be asking the question, you would

0:04:36 > 0:04:39expect to take enough jerks that you would need for your own prescription

0:04:39 > 0:04:43for the length of time you will be there. But 290. Politically this has

0:04:43 > 0:04:52played better for the government than the case of the Iranian woman

0:04:52 > 0:04:56because the Labour MP poured praise on the Foreign Office. This is the

0:04:56 > 0:05:01point I was making about this being a clemency issue, that if she did

0:05:01 > 0:05:06not know and was a bit naive about taking drugs, it may well be we

0:05:06 > 0:05:09could ask for mercy from the Egyptian authorities. But that is

0:05:09 > 0:05:13the kind of thing the Foreign Office could do, and at the moment from

0:05:13 > 0:05:17what we've seen it does not seem to be that that the conviction is

0:05:17 > 0:05:22actually wrong.Moving on to a subject that is no great surprise,

0:05:22 > 0:05:29the Boxing Day sales. Have you picked up any bargains?Have you

0:05:29 > 0:05:38seen the bags in the corridor! Back in the old days when we were young

0:05:38 > 0:05:43reporters, will often dispatched to some department stores where some

0:05:43 > 0:05:48hapless couple would spend their entire Christmas waiting to purchase

0:05:48 > 0:05:52a reduced price suffer and they would get a bargain. Those days have

0:05:52 > 0:05:57gone. But apparently people still do flock to the shops. And judging by

0:05:57 > 0:06:04Oxford Street in London, they still do. But not as good as it looks

0:06:04 > 0:06:09because according to analysis, football is down by 5.2% on last

0:06:09 > 0:06:19year.Retail having a tough time this year. Will it matter if instead

0:06:19 > 0:06:26of footfall in the shops, we just let our fingers do the walking?I'm

0:06:26 > 0:06:30not sure it would, as long as people are buying things it does not make a

0:06:30 > 0:06:33huge difference where they are buying them. It does to the shops

0:06:33 > 0:06:37but not the economy as a whole. Provided you have people doing that.

0:06:37 > 0:06:42But at the moment the online figures have not come through so there is a

0:06:42 > 0:06:46questionable whether inflation has now stopped people buying stuff. We

0:06:46 > 0:06:50will know when we have the full picture. But if you shops go bust,

0:06:50 > 0:06:57and the high street becomes... And also you would imagine most high

0:06:57 > 0:07:02street stores probably pay their fair share of tax. For some on rail

0:07:02 > 0:07:05-- online retailers may not necessarily. Many of them do not as

0:07:05 > 0:07:14we have seen.Well there is a novel take on this story?Again a

0:07:14 > 0:07:22light-coloured rehash, because this is about what came into force with

0:07:22 > 0:07:33the anti-social behaviour act. The police decided that there would be a

0:07:33 > 0:07:39£200 threshold for pursuing criminals for shoplifting and things

0:07:39 > 0:07:44like that. And if caught and prosecuted it would all be done by

0:07:44 > 0:07:49post. So they're looking at limited resources, they are cash-strapped.

0:07:49 > 0:07:54But of course retailers are getting fed up with this. And what is

0:07:54 > 0:07:58apparently anecdotally according to this story coming to light is that

0:07:58 > 0:08:06organised gangs can go into shops and they can steal stuff valued

0:08:06 > 0:08:14under £200. So £199? Or to lots of £100 or whatever, that can still be

0:08:14 > 0:08:20used, it is still good and can be used for other things whether it is

0:08:20 > 0:08:22buying drugs barons or whatever. So they're worried about the

0:08:22 > 0:08:27consequences.And also retailers are still out. And no one would want the

0:08:27 > 0:08:32message to go out that this is what you should be doing. This happens

0:08:32 > 0:08:37with some police forces investigating car theft and suddenly

0:08:37 > 0:08:43there is a spate of car thefts, bound to happen.Well the Sun

0:08:43 > 0:08:48newspaper, again talking about from an Chantrey, always good to find a

0:08:48 > 0:09:02PC story.Underneath a photograph of Rhianna. About the Ministry of

0:09:02 > 0:09:12Defence, allegedly. Allegedly. The PC brigade, very large writing.

0:09:12 > 0:09:18Apparently a notice has gone up in some base. This is one for the new

0:09:18 > 0:09:31Defence Secretary! They do not like army slogans. Anyway what it is

0:09:31 > 0:09:34suggesting is words like mankind, sportsmanship, because they contain

0:09:34 > 0:09:41the word man, they should look for alternatives. I do not mind too much

0:09:41 > 0:09:47humankind, I can just about manage that. Mankind is anthropological. I

0:09:47 > 0:09:58appreciate that. There are certain areas... When it comes to things

0:09:58 > 0:10:06like manhole covers I do not like the idea of human hole covers. And

0:10:06 > 0:10:11also, I think writing nowadays has got more difficult so I quote

0:10:11 > 0:10:26government 's books man, spokes woman, depending on who is providing

0:10:26 > 0:10:36the information. This is going to run and run. We will be back at
