0:00:00 > 0:00:09in a different position.
0:00:16 > 0:00:19Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be
0:00:19 > 0:00:20bringing us tomorrow.
0:00:20 > 0:00:25With me are parliamentary journalist, Tony Grew
0:00:25 > 0:00:26and the entertainment journalist, Caroline Frost.
0:00:26 > 0:00:32Tomorrow's front pages.
0:00:33 > 0:00:37A reshuffle and the Golden Globes. Who would have planned it?
0:00:37 > 0:00:40Alongside a picture of the papers former editor Peter Preston
0:00:40 > 0:00:43the Guardian says the Prime Minister is set to reassert control
0:00:43 > 0:00:45with a cabinet reshuffle next week.
0:00:45 > 0:00:48The Financial Times claims Britain will push to remain under EU
0:00:48 > 0:00:50regulation when it comes to medicines and pharmaceuticals.
0:00:50 > 0:00:52The BBC's former China Editor, Carrie Gracie, is pictured
0:00:52 > 0:00:56on the front page of the Telegraph.
0:00:57 > 0:01:00It reports that the Prime Minister is set to appoint a 'no deal Brexit'
0:01:00 > 0:01:05cabinet minister.
0:01:05 > 0:01:09Carrie Gracie is also on the front of the Times who details why she has
0:01:09 > 0:01:16has stepped down from her post at the BBC in protest
0:01:16 > 0:01:20at what she called an indefensible pay gap between men and women.
0:01:20 > 0:01:22The Prime Minister is on the front of the Metro
0:01:22 > 0:01:25who quote an interview with the journalist Andrew Marr
0:01:25 > 0:01:29who told Theresa May that - when he had a stroke in 2013 -
0:01:29 > 0:01:30NHS delays would have killed him.
0:01:30 > 0:01:34The front page of the I also has a picture from that interview -
0:01:34 > 0:01:37with quotes from Theresa May claiming she has listened
0:01:37 > 0:01:37to the voters.
0:01:37 > 0:01:41The Daily Express says that Britain is in the grip of a killer flu -
0:01:41 > 0:01:43the worst outbreak for 50 years.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46And, the Daily Mail claims that children are being bombarded
0:01:46 > 0:01:52with gambling adverts during televised football matches.
0:01:52 > 0:02:01You are scribbling a lot.And taking it very seriously.Let's look at the
0:02:01 > 0:02:07Guardian. Featuring the reshuffle tomorrow. May fix to assert control
0:02:07 > 0:02:13with the reshuffle. She is not moving that many around necessarily
0:02:13 > 0:02:20-- but it seems some people have things worried about. -- some things
0:02:20 > 0:02:27to be worried about. The Chancellor are rumoured to be sticking. Good
0:02:27 > 0:02:31news for Boris fans. He will continue to be Foreign Secretary.
0:02:31 > 0:02:37Yes, it is all about Brexit and the idea that she will be creating. It
0:02:37 > 0:02:41is a minister without portfolio. A minister thought no deal. It doesn't
0:02:41 > 0:02:46sound like a job but it is clearly a big job, if it comes for that. -- if
0:02:46 > 0:02:51it comes to that. Let's see who would pick up that magic but on.Why
0:02:51 > 0:02:58would she have such a minister? Eurosceptics are concerned
0:02:58 > 0:03:01government won't have the hardest Brexit they might have hoped for.
0:03:01 > 0:03:07The Prime Minister is attempting right -- to reassure the right ring.
0:03:07 > 0:03:14-- right wing. There will be a minister whose job it will be,
0:03:14 > 0:03:20within the Department, to prepare for a no deal. That is the front of
0:03:20 > 0:03:28the Daily Telegraph as well. The Guardian is leading on this. This is
0:03:28 > 0:03:32the biggest in modern history. It has been coming for weeks. We
0:03:32 > 0:03:37shouldn't have been surprised. Not at all. I take issue with the fact
0:03:37 > 0:03:43that the Home Office, the Treasury and the Commonwealth, the defence
0:03:43 > 0:03:47Department is not one of the three of state. Another would say that
0:03:47 > 0:03:51David Davis is the most important person in the Cabinet. And wonder
0:03:51 > 0:03:58how he will feel about having a no deal Brexit minister. In a sense, it
0:03:58 > 0:04:04is a strange position to be in. The UK has already said they will be an
0:04:04 > 0:04:10ideal when it comes to Ireland. The aviation industry said they don't
0:04:10 > 0:04:15want to leave EU regulation. Pharmaceuticals as well. The jobs
0:04:15 > 0:04:20and the expertise it would leave. We keep the regulations will stop it is
0:04:20 > 0:04:24not difficult to understand that if we are living in 2019, we have to
0:04:24 > 0:04:28set up our own medicines agency by then.If we haven't, we need to ask
0:04:28 > 0:04:34the European Union if we can stay under their control.Nobody said it
0:04:34 > 0:04:43was going to be easy. These were supposed to be the easiest
0:04:43 > 0:04:49negotiations in history, we were told. You can be optimistic and many
0:04:49 > 0:04:57find the reality tricky. Speaking of which. The Times. BBC a juiced of
0:04:57 > 0:05:02breaking law. A star quits over pay. This is Carrie Gracie who obviously
0:05:02 > 0:05:06used to be a presenter here on the news channel. We may see her back
0:05:06 > 0:05:10here before long. She has stepped down as the BBC's first China editor
0:05:10 > 0:05:15because she feels the BBC needs to do far more to pay men and women
0:05:15 > 0:05:21equally for doing it will work.Lots of women have spoken out in the same
0:05:21 > 0:05:26inequality ever since the salaries were revealed last summer. Arguably,
0:05:26 > 0:05:30is achieved the first to walk the walk in the sense of saying enough
0:05:30 > 0:05:35is enough? I can't think of the previous person. You may be able to
0:05:35 > 0:05:39say something but certainly it is a very high-profile move to make, to
0:05:39 > 0:05:45say, I have a high profile job. She is one of the top five editors in
0:05:45 > 0:05:49the organisation in foreign fields. To say she won't do it because it's
0:05:49 > 0:05:52not there, to give up a job she clearly loves and is very well
0:05:52 > 0:05:56qualified to do, is a huge statement and something I think the BBC will
0:05:56 > 0:06:00have to take note of, even as they say they have this enquiry pending
0:06:00 > 0:06:06and watch this space. There are lots of reviews of the BBC has done to
0:06:06 > 0:06:09look at aspects of the pay structure. It says there is no
0:06:09 > 0:06:13systemic discrimination. It is interesting they would say that. The
0:06:13 > 0:06:16only reason we're having this conversation is because transparency
0:06:16 > 0:06:20was forced on the BBC and the government intends to force that
0:06:20 > 0:06:24transparency on a of other British companies later on when the
0:06:24 > 0:06:27legislation comes through. I think that will make a difference. The
0:06:27 > 0:06:32stark reality is put in front of us. Who is paid what and what is the
0:06:32 > 0:06:36rationale and explanation for paying some of those women less than men?
0:06:36 > 0:06:39It is not just the BBC. I think the transparency will cause our major
0:06:39 > 0:06:43culture change will stop we have rarely seen is in government
0:06:43 > 0:06:47departments. The Bank of England has a 20% pay cut. They now have to
0:06:47 > 0:06:52justify that, explain it, and eliminate it.The BBC will say there
0:06:52 > 0:06:55are many organisations with the problem is far, far worse than they
0:06:55 > 0:07:00are here.The BBC are a public broadcaster. High standards are
0:07:00 > 0:07:07held. It will be interesting to see if these newspapers will be
0:07:07 > 0:07:11trumpeting their own gender pay cuts.They don't have faces that
0:07:11 > 0:07:15people recognise and it means something as you are saying about
0:07:15 > 0:07:18Andrew Maher's discussion with Theresa May. These things land in
0:07:18 > 0:07:28people's living room. -- Andrew Marr. How many men, how many women,
0:07:28 > 0:07:35et cetera. The FTI trying to tackle this as well. It is difficult to get
0:07:35 > 0:07:39the information that you want because people understandably don't
0:07:39 > 0:07:47want to share what they own. -- the FT are trying. When Jennifer
0:07:47 > 0:07:50Lawrence revealed what they were being paid Ash what she was been
0:07:50 > 0:08:01paid.-- what she was being paid. You need to implement these things.
0:08:01 > 0:08:09Transparency helps.The picture on the Times are of these well-known
0:08:09 > 0:08:19women of Hollywood who are wearing these" times up" T-shirts.
0:08:19 > 0:08:30Protesting against the sexual assault allegations. We had the
0:08:30 > 0:08:35organised response which is the body of very profile -- very high-profile
0:08:35 > 0:08:40women launched on January one. The important thing is that none of
0:08:40 > 0:08:45these women, we hope, and it seems to be, have suffered either
0:08:45 > 0:08:51professionally or personally as we know from Natalie Portman, either
0:08:51 > 0:09:03long coria, these people are a listers. -- Eva Longoria. We hope
0:09:03 > 0:09:06this will transcend the film industry so we can all feel
0:09:06 > 0:09:09supported.The Daily Mail is reporting on how which will affect
0:09:09 > 0:09:15the Golden Globes when we see all of the stars on the red carpet. Reese
0:09:15 > 0:09:20Witherspoon leads in black. That is the dress code this year. That
0:09:20 > 0:09:29sounds like a limp response. If I was these women in Hollywood, I
0:09:29 > 0:09:32would be demanding to work with female directors, I would be
0:09:32 > 0:09:35demanding that men and women were paid equally. If these Hollywood a
0:09:35 > 0:09:40listers really have that much power, wearing back to an award ceremony
0:09:40 > 0:09:44when you are going to do what you always do which is stand there and
0:09:44 > 0:09:47hand out awards to people. It doesn't sound like a powerful
0:09:47 > 0:09:51response.As powerful as they are, though, being the first to speak out
0:09:51 > 0:09:54and not knowing whether everybody is following behind you, is a scary
0:09:54 > 0:10:00place to be.The more you have to lose, the biggest mistakes.
0:10:00 > 0:10:03Arguably, Rose McGowan, brave though she is because she has been so alone
0:10:03 > 0:10:07and so isolated so long in her opposition to Harvey once been
0:10:07 > 0:10:14forced up long before any of this kicked off, I've been thinking from
0:10:14 > 0:10:23her for years. -- Weinstein. Now we see Meryl Streep. Whether they want
0:10:23 > 0:10:27to be seen as being on the right side of history or not, to me it
0:10:27 > 0:10:30doesn't matter because the end result will be some collective clout
0:10:30 > 0:10:34that the men in the industry have to listen to because they want to be
0:10:34 > 0:10:38seen on the right side of history as well.Letter that the Telegraph. The
0:10:38 > 0:10:47Queen reveals her disc front -- her discomfort. -- let's go to the
0:10:47 > 0:10:54Telegraph.The Queen will be talking about the coronation. Very unusual.
0:10:54 > 0:10:59If it is an interview format, it will be the first time ever. She
0:10:59 > 0:11:04will be reminiscing about the events 65 years ago. Classic
0:11:04 > 0:11:12understatement. Her frankly horrible journey in the state coach.
0:11:12 > 0:11:1718th-century modes of transport, they look great from the outside but
0:11:17 > 0:11:24they must be very comfortable on the inside with suspension and so on.
0:11:24 > 0:11:30Let alone with the tiara.Do you remember the poor state of Princess
0:11:30 > 0:11:34Diana's wedding dress. When she entered the coach, she went in
0:11:34 > 0:11:41looking at it better than when she came out.It came out very crumpled.
0:11:41 > 0:11:46Kate Middleton had lace. It wouldn't crumple so much. It draped better
0:11:46 > 0:11:56when she got out. I seem to recall. Well done. The Financial Times. As a
0:11:56 > 0:12:03geography graduate, I have a slight issue with this. I have slight issue
0:12:03 > 0:12:13with this story. Two extremes will stop it is black and white, I'm
0:12:13 > 0:12:22sorry. US freezes as Australia fries. It talks about how places on
0:12:22 > 0:12:25the other side of the world have different weather. We know the point
0:12:25 > 0:12:34they are making. But it is summer in the southern hemisphere and the
0:12:34 > 0:12:40northern hemisphere is in winter. Leigh not many readers of the FT
0:12:40 > 0:12:50would know that.--A lot of readers of the FT may not know that.It is
0:12:50 > 0:12:59-73 with windchill. All they have from Australia is the usual people
0:12:59 > 0:13:08on the beach and why is this man outside if he is so cold? You are
0:13:08 > 0:13:15absolutely right Martine.I thought you were accusing me of pedantry. I
0:13:15 > 0:13:20know the point they are making, these are extremes. I struggle with
0:13:20 > 0:13:27it, though. It is about the only opinion I can fit in. That's it for
0:13:27 > 0:13:31the papers. Tony, Caroline, thank you for joining us. Coming up next
0:13:31 > 0:13:38is the film review.
