0:01:15 > 0:01:28other NGOs. -- engineers. -- endures.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be

0:01:31 > 0:01:32bringing us tomorrow.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35With me are Anne Ashworth, associate editor at the Times,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37and the author, playwright and columnist in the

0:01:37 > 0:01:38New European, Bonnie Greer.

0:01:38 > 0:01:43Tomorrow's front pages.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46The Sunday Times, which reports that the new Justice Secretary

0:01:46 > 0:01:49is preparing to intervene to halt the release of the so-called black

0:01:49 > 0:01:51cab rapist, John Worboys.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54The Sunday Telegraph has an interview with

0:01:54 > 0:01:57the new Conservative party chairman - he tells the paper he wants

0:01:57 > 0:02:02to galvanise the party's digital campaigning.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05The Observer reports claims by Nigel Farage that pro-Europeans

0:02:05 > 0:02:08could overturn the result of the Brexit referendum

0:02:08 > 0:02:13and that the Leave side has stopped fighting.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16And the Sunday Express claims economists are warning the EU that

0:02:16 > 0:02:18failing to reach a Brexit deal with Britain could

0:02:18 > 0:02:23cost it £500 billion.

0:02:23 > 0:02:29So, let's begin.

0:02:29 > 0:02:34We are going to start this evening with the Observer and Nigel Farage

0:02:34 > 0:02:35who has had a couple of things

0:02:35 > 0:02:36with the Observer and Nigel Farage who has had a couple of things this

0:02:36 > 0:02:36with the Observer and Nigel Farage who has had a couple of things this

0:02:36 > 0:02:40week, started off saying he thinks there should be a second referendum

0:02:40 > 0:02:48and it rather bizarrely put him in agreement with Vince Cable. He said

0:02:48 > 0:02:51he thought the league side would winds very well and now he seems to

0:02:51 > 0:02:55be saying the opposite. But two days later, he thinks the Remainers will

0:02:55 > 0:03:00winds the day because he feels the Leave campaign is futile and

0:03:00 > 0:03:07hopeless, they have given up the fight, and that remain points is the

0:03:07 > 0:03:10input watch more strongly. I'm not quite sure where he is getting any

0:03:10 > 0:03:16of the evidence for these views from but I just wonder whether he just

0:03:16 > 0:03:22loves the limelight so much that he cannot bear not to be in it, or that

0:03:22 > 0:03:29he is hoping that the vacancy at the top of the Duke chip will -- of Ukip

0:03:29 > 0:03:33will become clear and he can jump in and save the party. Is barely making

0:03:33 > 0:03:42sense.I think what Anis saying is the hub of it. This guy it didn't

0:03:42 > 0:03:46get where he is without knowing how to manipulate the limelight. There

0:03:46 > 0:03:53is a slight shift, if the question were asked, towards remain. John

0:03:53 > 0:03:59Curtis who has been knighted in the new years Honours list, it is there.

0:03:59 > 0:04:01But ask the question again is ridiculous. And I am a passionate

0:04:01 > 0:04:07Remainer. I think it would be insulting to ask people this

0:04:07 > 0:04:12question again. I think what could be asked, because I fully, the

0:04:12 > 0:04:15referendum is an arc of asking the people how they feel, people could

0:04:15 > 0:04:21be asked about how people feel about that heal, would you rather remain

0:04:21 > 0:04:27do you buy it? And this time, get 16 and 17-year-olds involved because

0:04:27 > 0:04:33this is deftly checked, and go for a supermajority. The wind is very

0:04:33 > 0:04:39tiny, and act truly, Michael Farage did say to the Daily Mirror a couple

0:04:39 > 0:04:46of years ago that it was safe to 48 remain then the question is

0:04:46 > 0:04:52unsettled. So, he is aware through the arc and movement of things but I

0:04:52 > 0:04:59wouldn't trust it.I wonder if he is talking about the shape of the deal

0:04:59 > 0:05:04emerging. Talk of a transition period, for example, where people

0:05:04 > 0:05:08won't notice much of a difference, he worries it is all being watered

0:05:08 > 0:05:13down and their white beard clean break. He wants a divorce in which

0:05:13 > 0:05:19either side doesn't release speak to each other. And we think that might

0:05:19 > 0:05:23not quite how it unfolds. And he's also possibly seeing that the trade

0:05:23 > 0:05:26deals that people were so confident about may not be so readily

0:05:26 > 0:05:31available. However, I do always wonder why so much attention is paid

0:05:31 > 0:05:39to a man who has not how whatsoever. Because he is click bait. He's a

0:05:39 > 0:05:44televisual clown. Vets face it, most politicians are not very

0:05:44 > 0:05:50interesting, I am glad, because it means they are doing their work. But

0:05:50 > 0:05:54this one knows how to grab the limelight. He said it on the

0:05:54 > 0:05:59breakfast show, off the top of his head, and the presenter was going,

0:05:59 > 0:06:07what? What? What?He is credited with changing the political than a

0:06:07 > 0:06:12Mac, changing the discussion. It was because of him and his party that we

0:06:12 > 0:06:16reach the point where we had a referendum. He had one job and he

0:06:16 > 0:06:25did it, which was to ensure two had -- we had a referendum. In the

0:06:25 > 0:06:29United States, he is being touted as the creator of Brexit. There he is

0:06:29 > 0:06:33getting all these roses thrown at him in the United States, most

0:06:33 > 0:06:40Americans don't even know what the Brexit is, and is completely light

0:06:40 > 0:06:44-- right, this is about the limelight. But he hasn't given us

0:06:44 > 0:06:49any idea about what talking about. But that isn't important. The end

0:06:49 > 0:06:55instatement is what is important. He is saying it is a top whistle to his

0:06:55 > 0:07:00face, he is saying, put me in charge, these people are selling out

0:07:00 > 0:07:05and we need to do this.He has come back many times before. It takes us

0:07:05 > 0:07:15daily to the others all the front page of the Observer, Trump row is a

0:07:15 > 0:07:21risk. Donald Trump of Mac deteriorating relationship with

0:07:21 > 0:07:34Britain.A lot of people thought these deals would be easily done but

0:07:34 > 0:07:39they take the case to sort out. It is an extraordinary thing, this

0:07:39 > 0:07:44distaste that Trump has developed for Britain just as a time when we

0:07:44 > 0:07:51meet to be talking more to this man, how about the Paris climate accord

0:07:51 > 0:07:58and other things.I have to say, I'm proud of this come true. No one

0:07:58 > 0:08:00America would think it would be the added kingdom which would either

0:08:00 > 0:08:07first place to live the sense of, we don't want you here. They thought it

0:08:07 > 0:08:11would be France. It is here. It is what is shocking people because to

0:08:11 > 0:08:18the average American, the British are TE and sympathy, so this is

0:08:18 > 0:08:21incredibly shocking to people that wonder does not -- London does not

0:08:21 > 0:08:29want him here.Should our dislike for him overwhelm our relationship

0:08:29 > 0:08:35with him?It is nothing to do with us. This is my argument with the

0:08:35 > 0:08:40person who bought this up. If British diplomacy is the world and

0:08:40 > 0:08:45this man's women, that is something that we should know about, we should

0:08:45 > 0:08:51not know about is the country. And at the same time, that is what

0:08:51 > 0:08:54diplomats are supposed to do. They should go in there and sort this

0:08:54 > 0:08:59out.Still, the state visit invitation has been even, it has

0:08:59 > 0:09:05been accepted, it is still on the table, but there is no weight. If he

0:09:05 > 0:09:17was to come, Her Majesty has invited him, he has accepted, he can come.

0:09:17 > 0:09:22He knows what is coming. Let's move on to the Telegraph, an interview

0:09:22 > 0:09:28with a new chairman of the party. He is saying that the Tories are too

0:09:28 > 0:09:33shy to fight the left online. After the general election which didn't go

0:09:33 > 0:09:36well for the Tories, they lost their majority, it was seen that that call

0:09:36 > 0:09:46banisters were far more deft way came to social media.I don't know

0:09:46 > 0:09:51if it is everything to do with age, I think it is a willingness to

0:09:51 > 0:09:57embrace it.It does have everything to do with age and I say this as

0:09:57 > 0:10:01someone in the demographic of the Tories, that you have to understand

0:10:01 > 0:10:04how it works, you have to get in there and you have to swim with it.

0:10:04 > 0:10:09When you are a younger person, they are adept at knowing how to do that.

0:10:09 > 0:10:13The average age of the Conservative Party would not give any indication

0:10:13 > 0:10:17that they would know how to manoeuvre lives. Brandon Lewis me

0:10:17 > 0:10:20know how to manoeuvre himself personally but the party as a whole

0:10:20 > 0:10:24doesn't know how to make his work and it is obvious because I watched

0:10:24 > 0:10:31the Tories bleed, and they ain't got it.But I think Brandon Lewis is a

0:10:31 > 0:10:33man that has realised it is a problem and that is how elections

0:10:33 > 0:10:37are going to be fought in the chart, and that they need to develop these

0:10:37 > 0:10:45skills.They need to have an offer... Someone said to me after

0:10:45 > 0:10:47the election the problem was the Conservatives came out of that

0:10:47 > 0:10:52inking they are really rubbish at everything and he said, it wasn't

0:10:52 > 0:10:56great election but it wasn't as bad, they mustn't throw everything away,

0:10:56 > 0:11:03they still have a chance of fighting.It is extraordinary that

0:11:03 > 0:11:08people just need to realise that these social media platforms will

0:11:08 > 0:11:14not go away. A lot of people think they would die.The Conservatives

0:11:14 > 0:11:20have no offer for the people who are online and who use it. It is as

0:11:20 > 0:11:26simple as that.Let's stay with the Telegraph, the flu vaccine is being

0:11:26 > 0:11:31shunned by 3 million people deemed most at risk. Clearly a problem.

0:11:31 > 0:11:37There was a flu outbreak the moment. What do people do about this?Well,

0:11:37 > 0:11:42it is extraordinary that people don't the flu will happen to them.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45They somehow think they will escape it working now this is the weekend

0:11:45 > 0:11:50when we suddenly realised that this could be a problem and I bet on

0:11:50 > 0:11:53Monday, people will be going into pharmacies and perhaps not been able

0:11:53 > 0:11:57to find the flu vaccine but at least they will be trying because of the

0:11:57 > 0:12:03number of people having flu.Isn't this getting back into a

0:12:03 > 0:12:07generational conversation. Isn't this a younger demographic? There

0:12:07 > 0:12:09was the whole thing a couple of years ago about not being

0:12:09 > 0:12:16vaccinated. A lot of younger people are not doing it.They do it in

0:12:16 > 0:12:21schools, interestingly.But there is another group of women who aren't

0:12:21 > 0:12:24getting vaccinated anymore so it might be part of that. What I think

0:12:24 > 0:12:29is interesting is usually any discussions about the free vaccine

0:12:29 > 0:12:33is focusing on the elderly but they are talking about young people.

0:12:33 > 0:12:37People I know who have had the flu worst of the younger people, maybe

0:12:37 > 0:12:44they haven't had previous clues.In America, there was a big anti-Vac

0:12:44 > 0:12:52movement.Let's move on to the Sunday Times. The parole board

0:12:52 > 0:12:58deciding that John Worboys should be released after fewer than ten years

0:12:58 > 0:13:04in prison. The new Justice Minister when he took over last week, is now

0:13:04 > 0:13:07suggesting there may be grounds to try and challenge that. He is saying

0:13:07 > 0:13:11he would only do it if there was a reasonable chance of success but it

0:13:11 > 0:13:19is an incredible boring.An extraordinary lawyer. A lawyer in

0:13:19 > 0:13:21this job is immediately asserting himself and thinking, right, we need

0:13:21 > 0:13:27to short -- sort this situation. There was controversy over the

0:13:27 > 0:13:35secrecy and the decision to allow Warboys out. It looks, bowling, he

0:13:35 > 0:13:39is obviously taken the right soundings, and he is going to try

0:13:39 > 0:13:46and fight this decision. If that is the way the parole board makes its

0:13:46 > 0:13:51decisions, that needs to be changed. They are independent though.

0:13:51 > 0:13:55Exactly. That is very important. The good news is with got a lawyer in

0:13:55 > 0:14:00justice. He has obviously seen a loophole, he has obviously seen

0:14:00 > 0:14:05something because you don't go in there as you think you can win it so

0:14:05 > 0:14:09he has seen something and he might be able to save these victims from

0:14:09 > 0:14:15this man and it is possible to.Some people are saying the CPS should

0:14:15 > 0:14:20actually bring in further prosecutions against him.Because he

0:14:20 > 0:14:25is a lawyer, he will see if it is possible to do that.We are reminded

0:14:25 > 0:14:29in this piece about how his victims heard that he would be out and about

0:14:29 > 0:14:34in London and they do not feel safe. Horrible. It is important that we

0:14:34 > 0:14:39have that visitors over the side for the legal profession. We need to

0:14:39 > 0:14:42make sure the law is followed completely and it there is a

0:14:42 > 0:14:46loophole that the Secretary of State can see, because these are lawyer,

0:14:46 > 0:14:50then remind have a good result. Two more quick stories in the Sunday

0:14:50 > 0:15:01Times. Try January all year. People buy like the side -- sign of that.

0:15:01 > 0:15:09And it is going to be Veganuary as well. The government are going to

0:15:09 > 0:15:13try and post calorie caps on fast food restaurants so these massive

0:15:13 > 0:15:18calorie laden dishes that the British will enjoy, there will be a

0:15:18 > 0:15:23big sign on them saying this is 1800 calories, best not to eat it.Not a

0:15:23 > 0:15:30bad idea.Mr Trump may enjoy this dish but perhaps it is not the best

0:15:30 > 0:15:37wing for you.But a bad idea. It is the sort of nanny state thing. If we

0:15:37 > 0:15:43are in a situation where... I live in Soho and I see people in their

0:15:43 > 0:15:4720s eating in McDonald's but when you get to be faulty, it is not a

0:15:47 > 0:15:51good thing and it puts a strain on the HS cos we are in an obesity

0:15:51 > 0:15:58epidemic.These four guys have not been eating. They have been burning

0:15:58 > 0:16:01off a lot of calories, breaking the wreck of four rowing across the

0:16:01 > 0:16:08Atlantic.Extraordinary. The strain on relationships. There are four of

0:16:08 > 0:16:12you, you've really got to get on to keep on rowing across the Atlantic

0:16:12 > 0:16:17so you can't let any kind of thrift or anything arrive in the racial

0:16:17 > 0:16:22ship. And they look like people that, the way the government would

0:16:22 > 0:16:29like us all to look.Their hearts must be in great shape.

0:16:29 > 0:16:30in great shape.

0:16:30 > 0:16:32That's it for the papers this hour.

0:16:32 > 0:16:33Thank you, Bonnie and Anne.

0:16:33 > 0:16:36You'll both be back at 11.30pm for another look at the stories

0:16:36 > 0:16:37making the news tomorrow.

0:16:37 > 0:16:43Coming up next, it is Meet The Author.
