0:00:01 > 0:00:05in the trenches, hear Mark Kermode 's thoughts on that and the rest of

0:00:05 > 0:00:11the top cinema releases in film review. -- of The Film Review.

0:00:19 > 0:00:23Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be

0:00:23 > 0:00:24bringing us tomorrow.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27With me are economics commentator and author Dharshini David

0:00:27 > 0:00:29and broadcaster and former Fleet Street editor Eve Pollard.

0:00:29 > 0:00:35Many of tomorrow's front pages are already in.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38The Observer leads on comments from a former head of the civil

0:00:38 > 0:00:40service, who makes a scathing comparison between some brexiteers

0:00:41 > 0:00:49and German nationalists between the world wars.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52Theresa May will face a coup from cabinet Brexiteers

0:00:52 > 0:00:55if she persists with plans to remain in the customs union,

0:00:55 > 0:00:56according to the Sunday Times.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59And more Brexit on the Sunday Telegraph which says

0:00:59 > 0:01:01the Prime Minister is being urged to invoke the example

0:01:01 > 0:01:04of Margaret Thatcher and defy her chancellor over brexit.

0:01:04 > 0:01:09-- of Margaret Thatcher and defy her chancellor over Brexit.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11The Express accuses Jeremy Corbyn of environmental

0:01:11 > 0:01:15hypocrisy, claiming he left a diesel car waiting outside his house for 40

0:01:15 > 0:01:23minutes before getting in for a 6 mile trip to Westminster.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Meanwhile, the Mirror has an image of the Health Secretary,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29Jeremy Hunt, taking a nap in a hotel, which the paper claims

0:01:29 > 0:01:31was taken while thousands marched through London calling

0:01:31 > 0:01:43for more NHS support.

0:01:43 > 0:01:48A lot of Brexit but a lot of other stories so let's start today with

0:01:48 > 0:01:52the Sunday Times. This is a story about the doping scandal hitting the

0:01:52 > 0:01:56Winter Olympics which are about to kick off in South Korea, this is a

0:01:56 > 0:02:00story that the Sunday Times have done a lot of these Expose is about

0:02:00 > 0:02:04alleged drugs cheating in sport, this one says secret data has

0:02:04 > 0:02:08exposed the extent of the doping for insurance skiers at the Winter

0:02:08 > 0:02:18Olympics. -- interrupts. -- endurance.This is exactly the kind

0:02:18 > 0:02:23of scrutiny they don't need. It starts on Friday, I believe, the

0:02:23 > 0:02:27opening ceremony, and 10,000 blood test, the Sunday Times is claiming

0:02:27 > 0:02:33it is seen from nearly 2000 Winter Olympians. What they are saying is

0:02:33 > 0:02:38one third of all metals, 99 Golden medals, one in the Olympics and

0:02:38 > 0:02:41World Championships in 2001 by skiers have test results which could

0:02:41 > 0:02:46be deemed to be suspicious. They say some of them in fact there is only a

0:02:46 > 0:02:50one in a million chance that the blood result, as a result of natural

0:02:50 > 0:02:55circumstances.Absolutely. A credible detail saying with some of

0:02:55 > 0:02:58them their blood was so dangerously sick at the skier should have been

0:02:58 > 0:03:03in hospital rather than competing. It's extraordinary. Of course the

0:03:03 > 0:03:07number one country they name is Russia. And of course lots of the

0:03:07 > 0:03:13Russian entrance, they were not going to come in fact, they are not

0:03:13 > 0:03:17going to be able to fly under a Russian flag and it so cheap, you

0:03:17 > 0:03:21remember, there were stories about secret agent swapping shoots and

0:03:21 > 0:03:26blood tests so that they would come out with as many winners as possible

0:03:26 > 0:03:30-- Sochi. It's terribly upsetting, this, because I can remember when

0:03:30 > 0:03:36the doping thing hit and my son was about 13 or 14 and how could you are

0:03:36 > 0:03:40this was at the Olympics, how can you explain that the person who

0:03:40 > 0:03:43actually breaks the wire and gets across first actually is the loser

0:03:43 > 0:03:48because he is taking something that would enhance and I mean, it is out

0:03:48 > 0:03:53of control now. I mean, and it is sad because this is going to be our

0:03:53 > 0:03:58only respite from Brexit is watching people flailing down and it is

0:03:58 > 0:04:02coming to snow here so we can get ready here to prod us. -- slalom

0:04:02 > 0:04:10down. You know that it is fake.It seems to be so prevalent in other

0:04:10 > 0:04:15sports that you begin to question everything that you see. Some

0:04:15 > 0:04:19countries who cared to do you remember those little gymnast from

0:04:19 > 0:04:22Eastern Europe were never allowed to grow up and have periods because

0:04:22 > 0:04:27they had to stay small, tidy and flat.It is extraordinary when you

0:04:27 > 0:04:31talk about the fact they have approached the sponsors of the game,

0:04:31 > 0:04:38Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Visa, to say it -- we're not sure if you're

0:04:38 > 0:04:40responsible about this, they have put their money behind the Olympics

0:04:40 > 0:04:44and it is a risk than knowing what happened last time. They probably

0:04:44 > 0:04:48thought it had been taken care off and obviously it hasn't.Let's have

0:04:48 > 0:04:52another look at the Sunday Times again but this time another story

0:04:52 > 0:04:56about, of course, Brexit. How could a Saturday night go by without a

0:04:56 > 0:05:00discussing it! In view of next week, the Cabinet subcommittee will meet,

0:05:00 > 0:05:04they are apparently going to try to come to some agreement about what

0:05:04 > 0:05:08the future relationship will be. This feels like the moment where

0:05:08 > 0:05:11they are actually trying to bring the two competing sides in the

0:05:11 > 0:05:15Conservative Party together and will have to come up with something but

0:05:15 > 0:05:18depending how you look at it, they are saying a dream team could be

0:05:18 > 0:05:22heading for number ten. Who is in the dream team?It is like fantasy

0:05:22 > 0:05:29football! Somebody has very strange dreams! Boris Johnson, VM,

0:05:29 > 0:05:32apparently, is the plan, Jacob Rees-Mogg, the man who apparently

0:05:32 > 0:05:36thinks that Treasury columnist are all against Brexit and aren't up to

0:05:36 > 0:05:40the job, for chancellor, that could be interesting, and Michael Gove in

0:05:40 > 0:05:48their as Foreign Secretary. -- in there. What could be interesting,

0:05:48 > 0:05:52it'll give them a chance and mock up a wonderful picture. This underlines

0:05:52 > 0:05:56that we should be talking about the fact that the captain has to come

0:05:56 > 0:06:00together on Wednesday and Thursday and come up with a planned but

0:06:00 > 0:06:02instead we are talking about division and the fact that Theresa

0:06:02 > 0:06:06May is facing a hugely distracting challenge at a time when we need to

0:06:06 > 0:06:09be talking about what the future relationship looks like. How will

0:06:09 > 0:06:13she square the circle? It seems impossible. Whatever they come up

0:06:13 > 0:06:17with it will really annoy a large number of people in her party. This

0:06:17 > 0:06:21was always going to happen, there is a group of determined Brexiteers for

0:06:21 > 0:06:26whom Brexit means a complete break. I feel this has all been exacerbated

0:06:26 > 0:06:34by Duff of swear -- Davos where she wasn't involved in business and, I

0:06:34 > 0:06:39mean, Davos is about to be about deals and Trump wandered around

0:06:39 > 0:06:43trying to fix up deals and she had dinner with her aides. It is a scary

0:06:43 > 0:06:48thing. The figures we are getting, first of all, why aren't these open?

0:06:48 > 0:06:54Why have hidden? Why is BuzzFeed leaking some? And of course you and

0:06:54 > 0:06:58I know that the figures you get other once you put in. Nobody is

0:06:58 > 0:07:02perfect. What you have to have involved is business, where, when

0:07:02 > 0:07:06the civil service or the Brexiteers said this is what is going to happen

0:07:06 > 0:07:11to our car industry, you need somebody who is on the shop floor

0:07:11 > 0:07:18saying actually, we sell everything we do to Europe and we will find it

0:07:18 > 0:07:22very hard to sell cars that drive on the other side of the road to other

0:07:22 > 0:07:27countries. I mean, you just need that to be part of the square as

0:07:27 > 0:07:31they seem, I think, to be pushing this at people who are very, very

0:07:31 > 0:07:36pro- Brexit. The Observer as well, sorry, is just talking about Brexit

0:07:36 > 0:07:39and Jacob Rees-Mogg, the Treasury and whether they are deliberately

0:07:39 > 0:07:43coming up with figures that mean we should stay in the customs union all

0:07:43 > 0:07:48the rest of it, they are saying this is an ex- Cabinet Secretary Sam is

0:07:48 > 0:07:52attacks on the civil servants are worthy of 1940s January. -- 1930s

0:07:52 > 0:07:59Germany.In my misspent youth I was a Treasury economist at one point I

0:07:59 > 0:08:04confess and they are complex models and it is like cooking, you do to a

0:08:04 > 0:08:08certain amount getting what you put in. -- get out what you put in. It

0:08:08 > 0:08:12colours the picture somewhat but on the other hand and you know this as

0:08:12 > 0:08:16a public service broadcaster have to be in partial and so the civil

0:08:16 > 0:08:20servants. They are accustomed to it, they understand what is going on and

0:08:20 > 0:08:25I think it is firm language, I'm not sure it is entirely an accurate

0:08:25 > 0:08:29picture of what is going on but ultimately what you were saying, the

0:08:29 > 0:08:32problem really is we have a Prime Minister who doesn't seem to be

0:08:32 > 0:08:35engaging in there for everyone seems to be second guessing and not

0:08:35 > 0:08:41getting in the right way.And the problem is it is all taking a long

0:08:41 > 0:08:44time and 24-hour news business means people are impatient, they want

0:08:44 > 0:08:50stuff now. There has been the sort of gap while the Prime Minister has

0:08:50 > 0:08:54been in China and it is, you know, where I'll be going, what are we

0:08:54 > 0:09:00doing?Reading on, private parole firms failing to hit their targets

0:09:00 > 0:09:05on crime cuts, this is presumably about reoffending?Private companies

0:09:05 > 0:09:09which are apparently checking people by telephone, you know, phoning up

0:09:09 > 0:09:14and saying murdering anyone at the moment? No, I am having a cup of

0:09:14 > 0:09:21tea.This is -- at least it is not by text, though.I imagine that this

0:09:21 > 0:09:25is a big deal to a private company, I don't want to knock a private

0:09:25 > 0:09:29company, the private companies say we can do this with a slightly less

0:09:29 > 0:09:33staff or people live and then you are doing by telephone, I'm in my

0:09:33 > 0:09:37answer probably is if you remember Abu Hamza, so disliked prison in

0:09:37 > 0:09:42America, but he wants to come back. Obviously prison is not as bad as we

0:09:42 > 0:09:46think, they are flying drones in with drugs and television and the

0:09:46 > 0:09:50rest of it. So maybe we have to change the way we regard presence.

0:09:50 > 0:09:54We need to move on quickly because the front page of lots of the papers

0:09:54 > 0:09:57has Uma Thurman who has made

0:09:57 > 0:09:59allegations against Harvey Weinstein, saying that he attacked

0:09:59 > 0:10:03her, he denies this, and in fact are said to be considering legal action

0:10:03 > 0:10:09against her. At yet another accusation in this story.A series

0:10:09 > 0:10:13of accusations, this is and people would remember she came out with a

0:10:13 > 0:10:17lot of Instagram post towards the end of last year hinting that she

0:10:17 > 0:10:21was angry and should when she felt the time was right was going to tell

0:10:21 > 0:10:26and she has. To the New York Times. These allegations against Harvey

0:10:26 > 0:10:30Weinstein but also talking about her experience after that when she went

0:10:30 > 0:10:37to make the Kill Bill films which of course he made.Too?Two. You think

0:10:37 > 0:10:41it is quite telling that she carried on working...If you are a

0:10:41 > 0:10:4520-year-old and you have no money and no reputation than I can see you

0:10:45 > 0:10:49would but she is Uma Thurman, she has made quite a lot of money, been

0:10:49 > 0:10:52married to a film star, the idea that you would then carry on

0:10:52 > 0:10:57working...How do you keep that, have UKIP being at the top of the

0:10:57 > 0:11:00game and getting those starring roles unless you keep going?Lots of

0:11:00 > 0:11:05people happy. What is still to talk about but we are out of time I'm

0:11:05 > 0:11:07afraid, that's it for the papers.

0:11:07 > 0:11:08Thank you, Dharshini and Eve.

0:11:08 > 0:11:09Next it is the Film Review.
