:00:04. > :00:14.Those are the latest headlines. Now for a look at the challenges

:00:14. > :00:16.

:00:16. > :00:21.facing the young and unemployed, here is World Business Report.

:00:21. > :00:26.Welcome to the programme. The headlines: As austerity by us, the

:00:27. > :00:33.jobless rate is expected to rise in the UK. There are fears UK

:00:33. > :00:37.unemployment could top one million. -- youth unemployment.

:00:37. > :00:44.Dell was that the Thailand floods could lead to a shortage of

:00:44. > :00:50.computer parts. Shares of Japan's beleaguered a

:01:01. > :01:06.

:01:06. > :01:13.off the Stock Exchange. Weekend there live now to Canberra,

:01:13. > :01:17.where US President Barack Obama has just arrived. This is his first

:01:17. > :01:21.trip to Australia since he became the US President. He was expecting

:01:21. > :01:26.to come and visit on other occasions but he had to cancel for

:01:26. > :01:30.various reasons. He is about to address the people there who are

:01:30. > :01:35.watching the event. He will also talk to the Australian parliament.

:01:36. > :01:42.As you can see, this is an important time for Australia. He

:01:43. > :01:49.will lay to visit allah' in the knot of the country. -- he will

:01:49. > :01:56.also visit Darwin in the north of the country. More US troops are

:01:56. > :02:06.expected to be sent there to train in Australia. They are currently

:02:06. > :02:13.

:02:13. > :02:23.playing the US national anthem. And he is there for only two days.

:02:23. > :02:25.

:02:25. > :02:29.In a moment, he will enter Parliament House to address those

:02:29. > :02:36.there. This it is significant for the region. He has just come from

:02:36. > :02:44.APEC summit in Honolulu. There, he did address various contentious

:02:44. > :02:51.issues, again talking about time and the Chinese currency. But as

:02:51. > :03:01.RSA, peace -- as I have said, this is something that he will enjoy.

:03:01. > :03:11.

:03:12. > :03:16.Two days in Australia for his visit as President.

:03:16. > :03:24.We will keep you up to date with events in Canberra as and when they

:03:25. > :03:33.take place. Returning now to the business

:03:33. > :03:36.agenda and World Business Report. The number of people out of work in

:03:36. > :03:41.Britain could pass a major milestone today. The latest figures

:03:41. > :03:46.could show that one million young people between the ages of 16 and

:03:46. > :03:50.24 are unemployed. Until now, the UK jobs market has not been as

:03:50. > :03:56.badly affected as the other major economies but that could be about

:03:56. > :04:01.to change. However difficult the current

:04:02. > :04:07.generation of youngsters tried to better its skills, many cannot find

:04:07. > :04:15.full-time work. When the job market contracts, employee his hand on --

:04:15. > :04:21.hang on to their more experienced staff. Most of the time, it makes

:04:21. > :04:25.you feel like you are not good enough. It makes you feel down.

:04:25. > :04:32.Compared to other large economies, the UK unemployment rate does not

:04:32. > :04:37.look that bad. It is currently just over 8%. That compares with 10% in

:04:37. > :04:40.France and 9% in the US. But less than 6% of Germans are out of work

:04:40. > :04:45.and the situation in Britain could get worse.

:04:45. > :04:49.Unemployment will rise globally over the next few years but the UK

:04:49. > :04:54.will be badly affected, partly because the growth prospects in the

:04:54. > :04:59.UK are particularly negative. One other reason why young people

:04:59. > :05:03.are finding it hard to get work is revealed in a survey out today. It

:05:03. > :05:09.says that many jobseekers have the qualifications that they do not

:05:09. > :05:16.have the personal skills to join the workforce.

:05:16. > :05:20.The computer maker Dell reported a profit of $893 million but

:05:20. > :05:24.disappointed Wall Street with its most recent sales less than

:05:24. > :05:29.analysts expected. Part of the reason was economic uncertainty and

:05:29. > :05:38.flooding in Thailand, which disrupted the flow of components.

:05:38. > :05:48.Beyond the human devastation, the floodwaters in Thailand have

:05:48. > :05:49.

:05:49. > :05:56.disrupted, S -- commerce. Dell says its earnings could be affected by

:05:56. > :06:00.the funds in Thailand. The country turns out almost one quarter of the

:06:00. > :06:06.company's supply parts. As we head into 2012, it remains to

:06:06. > :06:11.be seen how prolonged these delays will be. Dell is also struggling

:06:11. > :06:15.with a more basic problem. The personal computer market is

:06:16. > :06:19.grappling with lower demand and increased competition from

:06:19. > :06:25.smartphones and tablet computers. Revenue from PC sales dropped 6%

:06:25. > :06:30.last year. Despite that, the company was able to squeeze more

:06:30. > :06:40.from less and profits rose. bigger picture for Dell is they are

:06:40. > :06:46.emphasising profitability. They are not being as aggressive on their

:06:46. > :06:52.pricing. On the bright side, Dell is increasingly reliant on sales to

:06:52. > :07:02.businesses rather than individuals and they are still spending.

:07:02. > :07:05.

:07:05. > :07:11.Oliver's shares are up nearly 12% today. -- Olympus. This month,

:07:11. > :07:15.executives admitted hiding offers from investors. We have been

:07:15. > :07:21.watching this since the beginning of the story and for a few days,

:07:21. > :07:27.shares and this company have been climbing. What is happening?

:07:27. > :07:32.Shares are up on speculation that a Olympus might be delisted on the

:07:32. > :07:42.Tokyo Stock Exchange. There was speculation that they might also

:07:42. > :07:45.

:07:45. > :07:55.escape the brunt of any punishment. As you say, those shares have been

:07:55. > :07:59.

:07:59. > :08:08.active since the accounting scandal broke last month. -- have been

:08:08. > :08:14.affected. Yesterday, it went untreated. Nonetheless, the company

:08:14. > :08:20.is still the subject of several investigations after it admitted

:08:20. > :08:30.last week that it had he done investment losses for decades. --

:08:30. > :08:40.concealed investment losses. International authorities are

:08:40. > :08:45.probing the company as a result. The world's most valuable Telek --

:08:46. > :08:53.technology company, Apple, has named Arthur Levinson as chairman.

:08:53. > :08:57.It comes after the death of Steve Jobs one month ago.

:08:57. > :09:01.Qantas shares rose to their highest level in three months after the

:09:02. > :09:06.airline said it was hopeful it would reach an agreement with its

:09:06. > :09:11.employees by the end of November. Thousands of passengers were left

:09:11. > :09:15.stranded last month after it grounded all of its aircraft after

:09:15. > :09:21.a labour dispute. Relations began to deteriorate in August after the

:09:22. > :09:27.airline announced plans to move some of its services to Asia.

:09:27. > :09:33.Customers will now have to pay taxes and charges on their Airmiles.

:09:33. > :09:38.The loyalty scheme with 2 million members has been rebranded after 23

:09:38. > :09:43.years in operation. In the Asian markets, there are
