:00:06. > :00:16.impose austerity measures. Now for the latest financial news
:00:16. > :00:17.
:00:17. > :00:23.with Sarah. Thank you for joining us on World
:00:23. > :00:26.Business Report. The powerhouse of Europe braces itself for bad news.
:00:26. > :00:28.Germany's all-important business sentiment Indicator looks set for a
:00:28. > :00:38.fall. Apples caused a victory in its
:00:38. > :00:48.patent row with HTC. The Taiwanese firm faces an import ban.
:00:48. > :00:55.
:00:55. > :00:58.HTC may have lost a patent case to Apple is it a win for the firm?
:00:58. > :01:04.We get an important a snapshot of the prospects for Europe's biggest
:01:05. > :01:09.economy today. Germany's survey on business sentiment is released and
:01:09. > :01:13.it is likely to make unsettling reading. Many are expecting the
:01:13. > :01:17.report to show a fall in December just as the world looks to Germany
:01:17. > :01:26.to help we the eurozone out of its crippling debt crisis. How worried
:01:26. > :01:31.should we be? Let's cross to Berlin, where we are joined by a Chief
:01:31. > :01:36.Economist. Thank you for joining us. I mentioned there that we are
:01:36. > :01:40.expecting a fall in at this latest survey, another for I should say,
:01:40. > :01:47.because we have had several months of business sentiment for it. What
:01:47. > :01:52.are your members telling you about how they are feeling? If you ask
:01:52. > :01:56.German enterprises, they give you a different picture. It is separated
:01:56. > :02:03.into it two pass. On the one hand the currency situation is assessed
:02:03. > :02:10.quite well. -- two parts. They give you the prospect for the next year.
:02:10. > :02:15.They become more pessimistic. This is the current situation. We will
:02:15. > :02:20.look forward to what our colleagues will tell us today. So they are
:02:20. > :02:30.feeling more pessimistic about 2012. What kind of assessment are you
:02:30. > :02:30.
:02:30. > :02:35.giving of the economic growth prospects for Germany next year?
:02:35. > :02:39.2011 will be a second boom year. We estimate a gross rate of 3% for
:02:39. > :02:49.this year. We are still optimistic that we can reach 1% in the next
:02:49. > :02:57.year. It is true that the pessimistic signs are growing.
:02:57. > :03:07.There could be one quarter or two quarters of negative gross rate in
:03:07. > :03:07.
:03:07. > :03:13.2012. -- gross rate. Some surveys are suggesting we might not see 1%.
:03:13. > :03:23.We might see 0.5% only. How important will those exports be
:03:23. > :03:30.
:03:30. > :03:37.going forward? In China there has only been an eight or 9% slow --
:03:37. > :03:44.slowing of growth. German companies are still selling goods, equipment
:03:44. > :03:49.and machinery to emerging markets, fast growing markets. This will
:03:49. > :03:58.continue next year. There will be some stimulus. There will be some
:03:58. > :04:02.impact from these markets to our economy. Thank you very much.
:04:02. > :04:06.Today Brussels turns its attention to the growing number of young
:04:06. > :04:10.people in Europe who cannot find work as the financial crisis bites.
:04:10. > :04:15.The EU is gearing up to provide more aid to help member states
:04:15. > :04:18.tackle youth unemployment by helping unqualified levers back
:04:18. > :04:25.into education or vocational training. The commission wants to
:04:25. > :04:30.back workplace training and apprenticeships. This is how young
:04:30. > :04:37.people once learned their trade, on the job as apprentices, keeping the
:04:37. > :04:43.wheels turning. But now it is drying up, especially in the
:04:43. > :04:46.southern European countries like Spain. One model for the future is
:04:47. > :04:56.the German apprenticeship system, where classroom learning is
:04:57. > :04:58.
:04:58. > :05:08.tailored to feed the economy. These students will land long-term jobs.
:05:08. > :05:10.
:05:10. > :05:15.Students do it knowledge they are the lucky ones. We have a lot of
:05:15. > :05:25.schools. We can obtain vocational training and apprenticeships.
:05:25. > :05:28.
:05:29. > :05:34.Germany knows of these comparative advantage. We must have the right
:05:34. > :05:38.skills. Education and training are key to the effort. That is why they
:05:38. > :05:45.have such a prominent role in our strategy to lead Europe out of the
:05:45. > :05:48.crisis and on the path to sustainable growth. With one in
:05:48. > :05:55.five young people now unemployed across Europe, Brussels is trying
:05:55. > :05:58.to rationalise different schemes, many of them administered through
:05:58. > :06:03.the European Social Fund. But the difficulty providing more
:06:03. > :06:09.apprenticeships is that often employers cannot often -- cannot
:06:09. > :06:18.offer jobs at the end. It is only economic growth which will make a
:06:18. > :06:22.big dent in his UN and Symond. -- in young people's UN and Symond.
:06:22. > :06:28.Europe pean countries have agreed to provide 150 billion euros to the
:06:28. > :06:32.IMF. This money could be used to help struggling countries. Germany,
:06:33. > :06:36.Italy and Spain as well as some others offer support but Britain's
:06:37. > :06:40.decision not to take part meant finance ministers failed to reach
:06:40. > :06:47.their target sum of 200 billion euros.
:06:47. > :06:52.AT&T is a banding its bid to buy eight Deutsche Telecom T-Mobile USA.
:06:52. > :06:55.It comes after US authorities moved to block the deal as anti-
:06:55. > :07:00.competitive. AT&T said it would have to take a charge as a result
:07:00. > :07:03.of dropping the offer and is worried about a shortage of air

:07:08. > :07:13.with apple and ordering an import ban on HTC phones that infringe one
:07:13. > :07:19.of its patents. The Trade Commission says the ban will take
:07:19. > :07:28.effect from next April. HTC is a major maker of phones that use
:07:28. > :07:33.Google Android operated a software. Let's stay with that story. Let's
:07:33. > :07:39.join a Rico Hizon who is in Singapore. It is a victory for
:07:39. > :07:47.Apple but it is a narrow victory. HTC is claiming that it is not bad
:07:47. > :07:56.news for them. Absolutely. It may be a setback,
:07:56. > :08:02.but the Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer sees this as a win. In
:08:02. > :08:10.a statement, they said the ruling was a win for the firm and they are
:08:10. > :08:18.pleased with the determination and respects the decision of the ITC.

:09:17. > :09:25.Let me show you what is happening with the markets. You might
