:00:20. > :00:26.Will new handsets be able to turnaround the fortunes of the

:00:26. > :00:29.maker of the Blackberry, RIM? And a group of Nigerian farmers

:00:29. > :00:39.will find out today whether they've won a landmark ruling against oil

:00:44. > :00:47.Welcome to World Business Report. I'm Sally Bundock. It has been a

:00:47. > :00:52.while since Blackberry has generated this much excitement, at

:00:52. > :00:55.least among tech watchers. The Canadian firm unveils the

:00:56. > :00:59.Blackberry 10, its newest operating system, and a new line of handsets

:00:59. > :01:02.to go with it. The manufacturer, Research in Motion, hopes it will

:01:02. > :01:12.help revive the company's fortunes. Michelle Fleury, who is in New York,

:01:12. > :01:25.

:01:25. > :01:30.In response to requests from his employees, he is giving staff the

:01:30. > :01:37.choice between De BlackBerry or smartphone rivals including Apple

:01:37. > :01:42.and Samsung. Most of my direct reports, who are gander Ben me, I

:01:42. > :01:50.have given them the option on whether they won two years the

:01:50. > :01:56.phone mac or at the BlackBerry. -- younger than me. What can it

:01:56. > :01:59.Research in Motion do to win back customers? It is counting on is

:01:59. > :02:03.much delayed Blackberry 10 operating system and new handsets

:02:03. > :02:09.to get consumers excited. In anticipation, it has added

:02:09. > :02:15.thousands of applications. BlackBerry unease this to succeed.

:02:15. > :02:21.If you look at it share price, this is the lower it hit in September.

:02:21. > :02:26.Since then, the share price has climbed even as high as $18 a share.

:02:26. > :02:34.It has been a tough couple of years. It suffered a series of surveys

:02:34. > :02:42.outages. And has seen its dominant position in the market does appear

:02:42. > :02:50.to Apple and Samsung, who have been quicker to adapt. This is the

:02:50. > :02:55.person behind a black beret's -- BlackBerry's comeback. He needs to

:02:55. > :03:02.see consumers have some level of excitement. The bar is reasonably

:03:02. > :03:08.low. We're not looking for it to overtake app or Samsung. If they

:03:08. > :03:12.achieve 5% market share, a home run. A far cry from its of glory days

:03:12. > :03:16.when BlackBerry nearly a cat -- candid for nearly half of all of US

:03:16. > :03:25.phone shipments. And for more on this story, go to

:03:25. > :03:28.A group of Nigerian farmers will hear today whether their case

:03:28. > :03:32.against Dutch oil giant Shell has been successful. They want the

:03:32. > :03:35.judges to force Shell to clean up the mess created by oil leaks in

:03:35. > :03:42.three villages, repair and maintain the defective pipelines, and pay

:03:42. > :03:46.Shell denies responsibility, saying the leaks are caused by sabotage

:03:46. > :03:50.and theft and that they do try to clean up the spills. Liesbet

:03:50. > :04:00.Enneking is from the University of Utrecht and has been studying the

:04:00. > :04:01.

:04:01. > :04:07.Thank you. Who do you think will win this case? It is very difficult

:04:07. > :04:11.to predict fire a number of reasons. First of all, we are not sure what

:04:11. > :04:17.type of bullying be caught will issue today. It maybe the final

:04:17. > :04:23.rolling or it maybe an interloping rolling, asking for a further

:04:23. > :04:27.briefings on -- on certain issues. This is the first case of its type

:04:27. > :04:31.that has been brought in front of a thatched court. We have seen

:04:31. > :04:39.similar cases in other countries. But we have seen very few Rawlings

:04:40. > :04:45.on the merits. What I can say is that the plane trees maybe in a

:04:45. > :04:49.slight disadvantage at this point in time. -- plaintiffs. The court

:04:49. > :04:55.has refused their request for disclosures of certain documents by

:04:55. > :05:01.Nick Royal Dutch Shell. The court may say they have not substantially

:05:01. > :05:07.-- have not proved their claims. But we really do not know at this

:05:07. > :05:13.point. We will have to wait and see. It is being closely watched.

:05:13. > :05:23.Everybody is saying it was set a precedent. Why is it you need?

:05:23. > :05:23.

:05:23. > :05:29.are seeing a worldwide trend to some mad types of cases. -- some LR.

:05:29. > :05:34.-- similar. We have seen many been brought in the US, and in the UK.

:05:34. > :05:43.This is the first case of its type to be have -- to have been brought

:05:43. > :05:47.in front of a court in Holland. Yesterday, Beijing was engulfed by

:05:47. > :05:51.pollution more than 20 times higher than world safety levels. That is

:05:51. > :05:53.the second time in two weeks. The thick smog forced airlines to

:05:53. > :05:58.cancel flights and prompted government warnings for residents

:05:58. > :06:01.to stay indoors. The smog is putting a dampener on the yearly

:06:01. > :06:04.spring rush ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday which officially

:06:04. > :06:14.begins next Saturday. Our China correspondent joins me now from

:06:14. > :06:18.

:06:18. > :06:25.What is it like today? Take a look behind me. This is the view out of

:06:25. > :06:30.a window at the neck. Not good. It is pretty salty. Not quite as bad

:06:30. > :06:38.as yesterday. You cannot see through it. Yesterday, it was even

:06:38. > :06:45.worse. The level of pollution here is one third lower Benn yesterday.

:06:45. > :06:48.The government says the air quality reading is heavily polluted. The

:06:48. > :06:55.American embassy has its own monitoring. It usually comes out

:06:55. > :07:01.higher. They say it is hazarded. Old people, children, they are all

:07:01. > :07:07.advice to stay indoors. Everyone else is told only to go outside but

:07:07. > :07:14.did not exercise. And no-one with any heart condition, respiratory

:07:14. > :07:20.condition, should be done outside either. This is about 15 times the

:07:20. > :07:25.daily exposure levels. A couple of weeks ago, it was 40 times that.

:07:25. > :07:32.This does not feel too bad compared to what it has been. Good job you

:07:32. > :07:40.are indoors. Tower asked the impact this has had. Flights had to be

:07:40. > :07:46.grounded. -- tell us about the impact. The chapel problems

:07:46. > :07:51.yesterday it affected not just Beijing, it affected a huge part of

:07:51. > :07:57.north-east China. The government said an area about twice the size

:07:57. > :08:03.of France was affected by this. No wind conditions. The pollution was

:08:03. > :08:08.building up. This comes from power plants, cold power, industrial

:08:08. > :08:11.emissions, a vehicle emissions. Yesterday, they are were several

:08:11. > :08:18.dozen flights delayed. There are more problems at the airport this

:08:18. > :08:24.morning. In other cities, it was worse. 100 flights were cancelled

:08:24. > :08:28.in another city. This is happening when China is warming up to the

:08:28. > :08:38.spring holiday. It could cause some serious problems, if it continues.

:08:38. > :08:42.Thank you. The world's biggest online retailer has announced a

:08:42. > :08:45.rise in sales. Amazon revenues went up by 22% in the last three months

:08:45. > :08:48.of 2012. Strong sales of more profitable products like e-books

:08:48. > :08:58.and online movies went down well with investors. But net profit

:08:58. > :09:00.

:09:00. > :09:03.On to another taxing issue - this time in the world of fashion. The

:09:03. > :09:11.trial of design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana get's underway

:09:11. > :09:18.in Milan. They are accused of evading more

:09:18. > :09:21.than 400 million euros in tax. The trial coincides with prime

:09:21. > :09:31.minister's Mario Monti's war on tax evasion as he tries to restore

:09:31. > :09:39.
