:00:26. > :00:29.have been taken to hospital and an emergency triage centre has been

:00:29. > :00:31.set up at a football field near the plant.

:00:31. > :00:33.Reports from the US say investigators have identified a

:00:33. > :00:36.suspect in the Boston marathon bombings from video footage.

:00:36. > :00:40.However Boston police denied reports that an arrest had been

:00:40. > :00:46.made. Three people died in the twin blasts on Monday, dozens more

:00:46. > :00:49.remain in hospital. The FBI has named a suspect they

:00:49. > :00:56.have arrested in connection to the ricin letters sent to President

:00:56. > :01:00.Obama and a US Senator as Paul Kevin Curtis from Missippi. The

:01:00. > :01:02.letters were intercepted before reaching the White House or Senate.

:01:02. > :01:06.The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has told the BBC

:01:06. > :01:11.that the flow of arms into Syria could alter the balance of power in

:01:11. > :01:21.the Middle East. He also warned Israel has the right to prevent

:01:21. > :01:21.

:01:21. > :01:27.weapons from falling into the wrong hands. That this row that is

:01:27. > :01:34.developing as we are on air. There has been a massive explosion as a

:01:34. > :01:40.fertiliser plant in Texas. The local emergency services are saying

:01:40. > :01:44.there are many fatalities, at this point we have no idea as to what

:01:44. > :01:50.that can constitute. We know that at least 100 people have been taken

:01:50. > :01:55.to hospital. I have been speaking to a local resident. He is a local

:01:55. > :02:05.plumber. He told me what he knew about this fire. It was a massive

:02:05. > :02:08.

:02:08. > :02:15.explosion. I was just in the neighbourhood an hour before that.

:02:15. > :02:20.I was headed home. It was about 8pm. We are expecting some rate

:02:20. > :02:26.determined. I heard a clap of thunder, I thought it was under,

:02:26. > :02:30.after that water here by Winshill. I live five miles east of town. It

:02:30. > :02:37.hadn't started raining get, the firefighters were fighting the fire

:02:37. > :02:46.and a blow up. It blew that water for miles. I live five miles away.

:02:46. > :02:56.I can see the glow from my house. Is there a lot of smoke? The fumes

:02:56. > :02:56.

:02:56. > :03:03.must be quite thick. Toxic fumes. It is like a maze. Several

:03:03. > :03:06.helicopters are helping people out. There is like a war-zone. Do you

:03:06. > :03:11.know how many people were to the facility or how many people may

:03:12. > :03:21.have been caught up in this explosion? It happened around 8pm.

:03:21. > :03:26.They may have been a few people there. They were definitely closed.

:03:26. > :03:32.My friend's house burnt down. He lives across the block. His parents

:03:32. > :03:39.were injured from broken glass. There were children playing

:03:40. > :03:46.basketball and a park across the street. There is an apartment

:03:46. > :03:55.complex with about 50 units. It is around 300 yards. Just about where

:03:55. > :04:05.it is situated. If you go north and the to state there is around 25

:04:05. > :04:07.

:04:07. > :04:14.miles from Dallas. Tell us about the people who live in this

:04:14. > :04:22.community. We're proud about Czech Heritage. We were checks saddlers.

:04:22. > :04:25.We still have a day of mourning when Germans invaded Czechoslovakia.

:04:25. > :04:31.This is the worst and it has happened since then. This is

:04:31. > :04:40.terrible. That was a local plumber talking about a massive explosion

:04:40. > :04:47.as a fertiliser plant just outside of Dallas. Will keep you up-to-date

:04:47. > :04:57.with this developing story. In the meantime, the latest financial news

:05:00. > :05:06.The return of the not-so-smartphone. Can cheap and cheerful handsets

:05:06. > :05:16.help stop the losses at Nokia? Plus - struggling to stay in touch.

:05:16. > :05:19.

:05:19. > :05:29.Can Microsoft's latest offerings make up for a slumping PC market?

:05:29. > :05:31.

:05:31. > :05:35.Welcome to World Business Report. Japan's exports have gone up in

:05:35. > :05:40.March. Were they given a big boost by the weakest yen in a format used

:05:40. > :05:42.king mac It's a very big day for the technology industry - with some

:05:42. > :05:45.of the best-known names reporting results - two in particular who

:05:45. > :05:48.have found themselves on the wrong side of a fast-changing business.

:05:48. > :05:51.We'll talk about Microsoft in just a moment, but first - Nokia. It's

:05:51. > :05:55.expected to reveal another quarter of losses. The once dominant phone

:05:55. > :06:03.maker has seen sales fall over the past couple of years - as it

:06:03. > :06:05.struggles to compete in the highly competitive smartphone. --

:06:05. > :06:08.smartphone market. But for those millions of users reliant on

:06:08. > :06:14.cheaper, simpler handsets - the sturdy Nokia is still king. Alice

:06:14. > :06:19.Baxter reports. In cities like London the smartphone is king. It

:06:19. > :06:23.is a market dominated by Apple and Samsung. For millions around the

:06:23. > :06:30.world, Nokia is the brand of choice. That is because the phones like

:06:30. > :06:34.this. It is simple, and at $20 it is widely affordable. It is the

:06:34. > :06:39.humble mobile phone, rather than the smartphone, that has been

:06:39. > :06:43.keeping the lights on for Nokia. It is hoping his new recently-launched

:06:43. > :06:49.model will help build on its current success in the emerging

:06:49. > :06:53.markets of the Asia-Pacific. Nokia has put a lot of effort into making

:06:53. > :07:02.the phone fit the way people live. It builds and teachers to work with

:07:02. > :07:05.that. Things like a torch so you can see a way of an unlit road. The

:07:05. > :07:10.ability to use it one-handed because you may be ploughing a

:07:10. > :07:16.field for the same time is using the phone. The radio, because for

:07:16. > :07:22.many people that is their music. Two Some cards because people do

:07:22. > :07:26.juggle at different times of the day. It provides as theservices to

:07:27. > :07:33.help people understand where crops reverse, were they can sell for the

:07:33. > :07:37.best prices at markets and so on. Despite the attention to detail,

:07:37. > :07:45.Nokia faces increasing competition from those also wanting a slice of

:07:45. > :07:52.these unconnected world markets. There are others tried to step on

:07:52. > :08:02.its turf. We will see competitive devices from the likes of Samsung

:08:02. > :08:03.

:08:03. > :08:10.try to draw than price points. They are always in for this area were

:08:10. > :08:16.the next a billion people in these emerging markets will become mobile

:08:16. > :08:22.users. While Nokia focuses on making an impact in the highly

:08:22. > :08:27.profitable smartphone markets of North America and Europe... I am

:08:27. > :08:33.excited and proud to introduce you to the Nokia loonier 800. It must

:08:33. > :08:40.also fight to keep its current position among the growing number

:08:41. > :08:44.of uses elsewhere in the world. From Nokia to Microsoft. Tough

:08:44. > :08:46.times for this man - Steve Ballmer, chief executive of Microsoft. The

:08:47. > :08:50.world's biggest software maker is still reliant on the PC for the

:08:50. > :08:52.bulk of its profit - and it's a market that appears to be

:08:52. > :08:58.collapsing. Sales of personal computers plunged 14% in the first

:08:58. > :09:00.three months of this year - the biggest slump since records began.

:09:00. > :09:03.Microsoft's attempts to move with the times, its Windows phones and

:09:03. > :09:08.Surface tablets as well as its latest Windows 8 operating system,

:09:08. > :09:18.have not been a hit. All this is likely to weigh on the company's

:09:18. > :09:19.

:09:19. > :09:23.quarterly results later today. From New York - Samira Hussain reports.

:09:23. > :09:26.Shoppers at this Manhattan electronics store have many choices.

:09:26. > :09:30.As they look the new devices for the million Web surfing,

:09:30. > :09:35.increasingly they are not looking at these - instead they are looking

:09:35. > :09:40.at these. As consumers move away from traditional desktops and

:09:40. > :09:43.laptop computers, in favour of smart phones and tablets, companies

:09:43. > :09:49.that depend on the strength of the personal computing market like

:09:49. > :09:54.Microsoft unmarked struggling in a post computer environment. The

:09:54. > :10:00.trend is worrying for a company whose core business is personal

:10:00. > :10:05.computers. From January to March this year, 73.6 personal computers

:10:05. > :10:15.were shipped worldwide. That is down 40% from the same time last

:10:15. > :10:15.

:10:15. > :10:20.year. -- 14%. Microsoft's answer? Windows eight. By giving the

:10:20. > :10:26.operating system the look and feel of a smartphone, it was hoping to

:10:26. > :10:30.reinvigorate PC sales. It has not done much. It would be wrong to say

:10:30. > :10:40.that the PC is dead. It is still a large number. It is correct to say

:10:40. > :10:41.

:10:41. > :10:48.that it is in decline and that Abbotts Ann smart phones -- tablets

:10:48. > :10:55.and smart phones. The company has not said how will they have sold,

:10:56. > :11:05.but estimates around one million units. Compare that to be 1.5

:11:06. > :11:16.

:11:16. > :11:22.want anything it stays on a desk. I'm a desktop person. I have a

:11:22. > :11:26.laptop and a tablet. It is still far from becoming obsolete. Despite

:11:26. > :11:35.recent stumbles, Microsoft still has time to regroup its offerings

:11:35. > :11:38.in this new touch-screen world. As is almost all from me. A slightly

:11:38. > :11:47.smaller version of the programme during to -- due to the breaking

:11:47. > :11:57.story in Texas. The markets in Asia - we also have earnings from Google

:11:57. > :12:12.

:12:12. > :12:17.The spring snow has led to some good news. Two sheet worth more

:12:17. > :12:23.than 1,000 each have been found alive along a fence were there were

:12:23. > :12:26.covered with six feet of snow. They were lost and now they have been

:12:26. > :12:34.found. The sheep were missing for more than three weeks in the snow.

:12:34. > :12:39.A man walking his dog Spot them. He told the farmer the good news. He

:12:39. > :12:45.could not believe it. Neither could his son. He had taken pictures of

:12:45. > :12:50.the field were the Rams were last seen 23 days previous. We were

:12:50. > :13:00.sitting at the dinner-table, the phone rings, he says he has found

:13:00. > :13:04.

:13:04. > :13:08.the ship. Did you believe it? would have to see it to believe it.

:13:08. > :13:14.For most of the time, the sheep had been completely covered in snow.

:13:14. > :13:24.Only in recent days did it start to thought. Two rams were found alive,

:13:24. > :13:25.

:13:25. > :13:30.another was dead. Had you think she survived? Probably the dyke he

:13:30. > :13:40.created air holes. It took them to survive. At the end of the day, it

:13:40. > :13:50.

:13:50. > :13:53.was a miracle. His survival skills Coming up on Breakfast - Charlie

:13:53. > :13:56.Stayr and Louise Minchin will have all the day's news, business and

:13:56. > :13:59.sport. Breakast's Tim Muffett also speaks to Keith Luxon who ran the

:13:59. > :14:04.marathon in Boston and now says he's determined to compete in

:14:04. > :14:07.London too. The top stories this hour: There's

:14:07. > :14:11.been a massive explosion at a fertilizer plant in the small town

:14:11. > :14:14.of West, north of Waco in Texas. Dozens of people have been taken to

:14:14. > :14:24.hospital and an emergency triage centre has been set up at a

:14:24. > :14:31.

:14:31. > :14:37.football field near the plant. was struck to the explosion. We had

:14:38. > :14:43.the nursing home evacuated. There are at least 100 injured at the

:14:43. > :14:50.hospital that we know of. There will be many fatalities. Right now

:14:50. > :14:53.the fire is still going on. We cannot be seen. We're waiting for

:14:53. > :14:55.rescue team. Reports from the US say

:14:55. > :14:57.investigators have identified a suspect in the Boston marathon

:14:57. > :15:02.bombings from video footage. However Boston police denied

:15:02. > :15:05.reports that an arrest had been made. Three people died in the twin

:15:06. > :15:09.blasts on Monday - dozens more remain in hospital.

:15:09. > :15:12.The FBI has named a suspect they have arrested in connection to the

:15:12. > :15:14.ricin letters sent to President Obama and a US Senator as Paul

:15:14. > :15:24.Kevin Curtis from Missippi. The letters were intercepted before

:15:24. > :15:25.

:15:25. > :15:28.reaching the White House or Senate. The Israeli Prime Minister,

:15:28. > :15:32.Benjamin Netanyahu has told the BBC that the flow of arms into Syria

:15:32. > :15:35.could alter the balance of power in the Middle East. He also warned

:15:36. > :15:45.Israel has the right to prevent weapons from falling into the wrong

:15:46. > :15:52.

:15:52. > :15:55.Now it is time for our newspaper review. What's making headlines

:15:55. > :15:58.around the globe? The Independent follows suit with many of the

:15:58. > :16:01.world's papers by looking at the funeral of former British Prime

:16:01. > :16:03.Minister Margaret Thatcher. El Pais says the Spanish government

:16:03. > :16:05.has acknowledged Venezuelan election results after previously

:16:05. > :16:11.demanding a recount. Greece's poor are struggling to

:16:11. > :16:14.survive with many children going hungry at school. The International

:16:14. > :16:16.Herald Tribune says savings have been used up and the economy is in

:16:16. > :16:20.free fall. The Daily Telegraph's business

:16:20. > :16:30.pages look at how Apple shares have dropped below $400 after one of its

:16:30. > :16:31.

:16:31. > :16:41.suppliers posted disappointing Joining us is Rolake Akinkugbe, the

:16:41. > :16:45.

:16:45. > :16:51.Yesterday, it was a huge national event. To reflect that fact, so

:16:51. > :16:58.many British papers have got what they call souvenir additions. We

:16:58. > :17:06.are looking at the Independent. Very graphic, is said lovely

:17:06. > :17:15.picture. I would say that is an understatement. People were saying

:17:15. > :17:22.it was essentially a state funeral in all but name. Even international

:17:22. > :17:29.observers would associate this as a brat -- grand British event. One of

:17:29. > :17:33.the interesting things is not since 1965 has the Queen attended a

:17:33. > :17:43.funeral of a former Prime Minister. It is quite significant. Very

:17:43. > :17:45.

:17:45. > :17:49.interesting elements. Did you appreciate the circumstance?

:17:49. > :17:53.quintessentially British. St Paul's Cathedral, what else could be more

:17:53. > :17:58.quintessentially British? What else was interesting was the people who

:17:59. > :18:03.attended. 170 countries were represented. However much she think

:18:03. > :18:12.of policies, in her desk, she unified quite a wide spectrum of

:18:12. > :18:22.people. Let's have a look at some other papers. A major broadsheet in

:18:22. > :18:23.

:18:23. > :18:32.Spain. Spain jaws line and devotes lined canvas back with this whaler.

:18:32. > :18:38.-- draws line with the Venice whaler. The interesting thing is

:18:38. > :18:44.that famous whaler has recalled the Spanish ambassador. The problem is

:18:44. > :18:51.Spain has jumped ahead of the EU by endorsing Nicolas Maduro. -- Venice

:18:51. > :18:58.whaler. It was a very tight race. I suspect this were just Fatah out

:18:59. > :19:07.after a couple of weeks. Nigeria -- de think a former colonial power

:19:07. > :19:13.should be intervening in the first place? -- do you think. Venezuela

:19:13. > :19:18.is an important oil producer. That is a factor. A really poignant

:19:18. > :19:23.story about how tough things are in Greece for people. It focuses on

:19:23. > :19:28.Pete -- our children going to school hungry. One little boy is

:19:29. > :19:33.racked with pain he is so hungry. The family admitted they ran out of

:19:34. > :19:38.savings. They were trying to survive. There were living on

:19:38. > :19:48.pastor and automatic -- tomato ketchup. This is there really sad

:19:48. > :19:51.

:19:51. > :19:56.story. -- a very sad story. We were talking about a real poverty. We

:19:56. > :20:03.have seen stories in the past of people queuing for food. This is a

:20:03. > :20:13.reflection on what is going on are a much larger scale. It is really

:20:13. > :20:20.

:20:20. > :20:24.sad that there is -- it is for -- It is a difficult question. You

:20:24. > :20:31.have to strike a real balance. You to think about what you have to

:20:31. > :20:35.give up in order to safe sustainable growth. Then is to be

:20:35. > :20:43.questioning affects to make it easier for the economy to bear the

:20:43. > :20:49.brunt. -- cushioning effect. What is the government to read to

:20:49. > :20:58.support those at the bottom of the ladder? Apple's shares were at a

:20:58. > :21:08.peak a couple of months ago. Yesterday, they dipped under $400.

:21:08. > :21:12.We watch these things like a hawk. This is a case of getting people's

:21:12. > :21:17.appetite. As a technology company, you have to keep innovating. If you

:21:17. > :21:24.are not enervating, at the consumers get worried. --

:21:24. > :21:31.innovating. As a consumer, if he expected a new model of a phone to

:21:31. > :21:38.get out, you would hold of spending and wait for the future. One of the

:21:38. > :21:43.interesting things about the shares is the one of Apple's suppliers

:21:43. > :21:48.they are not getting as much orders. That is an interesting thing. It

:21:48. > :21:54.shows how sensitive how markets are right now. It reflects a broader

:21:54. > :21:58.global economic climate around demand. One of your main stories is

:21:58. > :22:02.not here. This seems to be the problem that has blighted the

:22:02. > :22:07.fortunes of Nokia. They have not kept up with their research and

:22:07. > :22:13.development. I absolutely. It might be an opportunity for others to

:22:13. > :22:17.come in and innovate what Apple is going through this. The only way

:22:17. > :22:23.for Apple to go it is downhill. The most viable company in the world,

:22:23. > :22:31.there is only one direction. A panic taxi drivers are being

:22:31. > :22:36.urged to get training. What are they up to? This is really

:22:36. > :22:43.interesting. I know some parts of the world where taxi drivers get

:22:43. > :22:47.mental tests. This is training courses from a safety point of view.

:22:47. > :22:53.Essentially, in terms of the numbers of cars on do road in urban

:22:53. > :22:57.areas, have be populated areas, it is about time this happens. The

:22:57. > :23:02.taxi union has rejected the idea say it will hinder the driver's

:23:02. > :23:12.work. There needs to be a system to ensure that people on the roads are

:23:12. > :23:19.

:23:19. > :23:23.Very quickly, let's show you some new footage of the massive

:23:23. > :23:30.explosion that we had been telling you about this morning. It has

:23:30. > :23:35.taken place in Texas. It happened in a very small Tehran. This is

:23:35. > :23:41.footage that was taken by passes by. This is a family in their car.

:23:41. > :23:50.They're just passing by. You concede a reflection of somebody

:23:50. > :23:55.with a video camera or a large mobile phone. That is the five. UCD

:23:55. > :24:01.moment of the explosion. -- den at UC. Their talks of hundreds of

:24:01. > :24:05.people being taken to hospital with serious injuries. -- There you see.

:24:05. > :24:11.It looks terribly grim in terms of the number of people have been

:24:11. > :24:17.seriously injured, so far. A nursing home were scented very

:24:17. > :24:24.close by to do us fertiliser plant. There are schools dotted around the

:24:24. > :24:30.area as well. We had been speaking with the emergency services. They
