:00:00. > :00:19.because of rising costs. Those are the latest headlines. Now

:00:20. > :00:32.for the latest financial news. Twitter jitters. Share fears as

:00:33. > :00:36.prices plunge. Plus a legal shakeup could see Customs officers seized

:00:37. > :00:42.and destroyed counterfeit goods purchased online.

:00:43. > :00:53.Welcome. This is World Business Report. In the moment, a tough road

:00:54. > :01:05.ahead for India. But first, it has a stock market value of over $35

:01:06. > :01:10.billion. And yet it has never even made a profit. That has not stopped

:01:11. > :01:16.Twitter becoming the hottest investment properties since it

:01:17. > :01:24.floated back in November. At least until last night. Shares plunged in

:01:25. > :01:32.after-hours trading. There were concerns about it making a loss of

:01:33. > :01:36.$511.5 million. That was a lot more than some analysts were expecting.

:01:37. > :01:47.What has really rung alarm bells was the lack of growth. Only an increase

:01:48. > :01:51.of 3.8% in users. That is the slowest growth ever seen for the

:01:52. > :02:05.company. That sparked a sell-off of shares. They plunged 18%.

:02:06. > :02:12.Since the bell rang on its first trading day, Twitter stock price has

:02:13. > :02:17.more than doubled. The first set of results were a test. The good news

:02:18. > :02:23.is that revenue shot up 116% from a year ago. Most of that thanks to

:02:24. > :02:27.money from mobile advertising. But the key question that investors

:02:28. > :02:34.wanted answered was could the company maintained that rapid

:02:35. > :02:39.growth. Twitter is more of a niche social product than something like

:02:40. > :02:52.Facebook. Here is the craft that casts doubt on that. -- chart. To

:02:53. > :02:57.keep growing, Twitter's chief executive told investors that the

:02:58. > :03:04.company would continue to put money back into its products. We believe

:03:05. > :03:08.that by building features that enhance conversation and messaging,

:03:09. > :03:15.we will help attract more users to the platform. Put simply, it will

:03:16. > :03:21.continue to spend more money than it makes. They will have to continue to

:03:22. > :03:26.commit significant capital towards investment. We think the company is

:03:27. > :03:33.going to be losing money for this entire year. Like the Superbowl just

:03:34. > :03:38.gone, one bright spot is how big a role to place in live events. The

:03:39. > :03:45.company is keen to show investors that the best growth days still are

:03:46. > :03:50.ahead. Trade in counterfeit goods is worth

:03:51. > :03:57.hundreds of billions of dollars. But soon Europeans purchasing fake goods

:03:58. > :04:02.could have them seized and destroyed by Customs. At the moment, they find

:04:03. > :04:06.it difficult to prevent counterfeit goods available on foreign websites

:04:07. > :04:11.being purchased by consumers for personal use. Today a case goes

:04:12. > :04:16.before the European Court of Justice that could change all that. We can

:04:17. > :04:25.speak to an intellectual property lawyer. Talk me through this case

:04:26. > :04:30.and the implications. It is a Court of Justice decision, the highest

:04:31. > :04:36.court in Europe. It relates to a fellow from Denmark who purchased a

:04:37. > :04:40.fake Rolex watch. This was from a Chinese website. He knew that it was

:04:41. > :04:44.fake. The website shipped it into the European Union. The European

:04:45. > :04:53.customs authorities confiscated it on the basis they suspected it was a

:04:54. > :04:56.counterfeit. The case went to the Danish courts. The question from the

:04:57. > :05:03.Danish court to the European Court is, in general terms, was in what

:05:04. > :05:15.circumstances can a Customs agency sees and destroyed suspected

:05:16. > :05:24.counterfeit goods? -- sees the -- sees and destroyed. The context is

:05:25. > :05:32.specifically online. Looking at the circumstances of online trade. The

:05:33. > :05:37.question that the European Court is looking at is whether the online

:05:38. > :05:42.website is actually aiming at European consumers prior to the

:05:43. > :05:49.point of sale or whether it is sufficient that the foreign website

:05:50. > :05:52.is simply knowing that it is sending the goods into Europe and knows it

:05:53. > :05:58.is receiving payment from a European citizen. Where does it go from here?

:05:59. > :06:07.Presumably this covers all counterfeit goods. How is this going

:06:08. > :06:14.to be enforced? Customs, they are the guardians of European goods. As

:06:15. > :06:18.you said, it is quite surprising the raft of counterfeit products out

:06:19. > :06:22.there. It is not just a case of luxury products. It goes into

:06:23. > :06:28.consumer goods. Cigarettes or one of the most common counterfeit

:06:29. > :06:31.products. When you're talking about pharmaceutical counterfeits, it

:06:32. > :06:37.might not be working, it is a serious problem. Customers will be

:06:38. > :06:42.vigilant. They work in tandem with international property right owners.

:06:43. > :06:47.People always look out for suspicious goods that come from

:06:48. > :06:57.countries known to be the source of counterfeit products. All eyes on

:06:58. > :07:03.this court case. Many thanks. Let us move to India. Car sales have

:07:04. > :07:08.fallen for the first time in over a decade. Few see the prospect of a

:07:09. > :07:24.turnaround until national elections. India are hosting one of

:07:25. > :07:30.the biggest auto Expo is in Asia. Nearly 50 new launches, it will be

:07:31. > :07:36.hard to believe that the Indian car industry is going through its worst

:07:37. > :07:39.phase in over a decade. Here at the Indian auto show, you would not feel

:07:40. > :07:44.that carmakers would be worried about the slump in demand. But right

:07:45. > :07:50.now most manufacturers seem to be focused on the long-term potential

:07:51. > :07:56.of the Indian market. Despite the fanfare, India's largest automaker

:07:57. > :08:02.has had a tough year. Increased competition from global

:08:03. > :08:07.manufacturers as hurt sales. But the company says that the good news is

:08:08. > :08:15.in rural India. We have tried to target 100,000 villages and tried to

:08:16. > :08:27.sell the vehicle. Next year we will look at the development. That is

:08:28. > :08:32.matching our vision for the car. The company delivers a car for all

:08:33. > :08:38.Indian people. But not everybody is doing badly. The luxury car market

:08:39. > :08:44.is expanding rapidly. But it is still a small segment of customers.

:08:45. > :08:49.As growth has been going down, most companies expect India to do well.

:08:50. > :08:53.We see the market being relatively flat in the first half of the. But

:08:54. > :09:05.close to elections, we will see growth. -- half of the year. We are

:09:06. > :09:11.looking forward to a great year. Cars can be made at a third of the

:09:12. > :09:17.cost. Relatively low labour costs and higher engineering skills mean

:09:18. > :09:21.that companies are investing. Not just in manufacturing will slow

:09:22. > :09:33.court it, but also components from local lenders. Nobody is leaving

:09:34. > :09:38.India just yet. Asian markets have stabilised after

:09:39. > :09:47.a turbulent couple of days. Singapore. Talk us through the

:09:48. > :09:57.markets. If you look at the numbers, investors are struggling with the

:09:58. > :10:01.weakness of US markets. Japan's stock markets are edging

:10:02. > :10:07.higher as investors get back shares of companies with strong earnings

:10:08. > :10:15.prospects. The country's central bank says it stands ready to

:10:16. > :10:17.increase monetary stimulus further. Hong Kong shares are rising from

:10:18. > :10:27.their lowest level in almost seven months. Singapore is heading for its

:10:28. > :10:36.biggest daily gain in four months, supported by strong manufacturing

:10:37. > :10:40.data. We are also seeing the index performances by heavyweights. If you

:10:41. > :10:47.look at the games, there are quite limited. The market stays cautious.

:10:48. > :10:54.-- games. Many thanks. You have been watching

:10:55. > :11:13.World Business Report. Stay with us, the papers in just a minute.

:11:14. > :11:17.Financial pressures could get in the way of the drive to improve care

:11:18. > :11:23.following the Stafford Hospital scandal, according to experts. A

:11:24. > :11:25.report said that money worries could hamper
