:00:00. > :00:00.Now for the latest financial news with Sally

:00:00. > :00:21.Super Tuesday points to a Trump versus Clinton race to the

:00:22. > :00:23.White House, but to what extent is the economy

:00:24. > :00:32.And, not getting behind the wheel of driverless cars.

:00:33. > :00:45.Theo Legget has been finding out for us at the Geneva Motor Show.

:00:46. > :00:54.A sunny outlook for Australia.

:00:55. > :00:56.Its economy keeps growing, despite the global commodities slump

:00:57. > :01:00.Our team in the region has the latest.

:01:01. > :01:01.It's the morning after Super Tuesday,

:01:02. > :01:05.and the results so far point to a contest between Donald Trump and

:01:06. > :01:08.Hilary Clinton to become the next President of the United States.

:01:09. > :01:11.The election is on November the 8th, so there is still a long road ahead.

:01:12. > :01:14.So, what do we know about the two candidates

:01:15. > :01:27.With me is Jacob Parakilas, Assistant Head of the US and the

:01:28. > :01:41.Good morning. Good morning. Nice to have you on the programme. First of

:01:42. > :01:47.all, your reaction. It is what we expected. Donald Trump was predicted

:01:48. > :01:54.to do well and he did, losing a couple of states to Ted Cruz and 12

:01:55. > :02:03.Marco Rubio. Marco Rubio was supposed to be the choice. -- one

:02:04. > :02:09.to. He only won one. If you cannot do it on March 15 that is the end of

:02:10. > :02:13.a challenge to trump. But Donald Trump is incredibly divisive within

:02:14. > :02:26.the party and may not face a challenge on July. Bets are still

:02:27. > :02:32.off. But it looks like they will become the nominees. If so, what do

:02:33. > :02:44.we know about their thoughts on the US economy? And is that a big issue

:02:45. > :02:46.for voters? There is a divide between Democratic and Republican

:02:47. > :02:57.voters on this. Democratic voters are looking at domestic issues and

:02:58. > :03:01.the Republican are looking at foreign policy. That may change in

:03:02. > :03:15.the General Election. The issues that the two parties debate may

:03:16. > :03:19.change. But it is as I said earlier. Donald Trump has interesting ideas

:03:20. > :03:24.with taxes. Took us through some of the ideas he has floated and some of

:03:25. > :03:29.the numbers that don't add up. Donald Trump in the past has

:03:30. > :03:37.proposed a significant wealth tax, at one point, 40%, on the

:03:38. > :03:46.wealthiest, to settle the national debt. -- 14%. He has backed away

:03:47. > :03:50.from that and is going with the lines of the other nominees. He

:03:51. > :03:55.wants to lower taxes across the board. It is difficult to see how

:03:56. > :04:06.that will be paid for based on the spending plans he has put forward of

:04:07. > :04:11.us. On the -- so far. Bernie Sanders says he is there to give back to the

:04:12. > :04:17.American household. To what extent will Hillary Clinton than that

:04:18. > :04:24.drum? And what about Obamacare? It was so difficult to get. Hillary

:04:25. > :04:35.Clinton wants to build on Obama's term in office, continuing that. The

:04:36. > :04:42.option to pursue major progressive change is fairly limited. She has

:04:43. > :04:46.taken ideas from Bernie Sanders, but a more moderate version, and will

:04:47. > :04:50.run without. It has been great to have you on the show, Jacob

:04:51. > :04:55.Parakilas, I know you will be on here against the -- with that. --

:04:56. > :04:57.again. Australia's economy grew by 3%

:04:58. > :05:00.in the three months to the end of December last year

:05:01. > :05:03.when compared to the year before. This is much better than most

:05:04. > :05:05.economists were expecting and very encouraging, given

:05:06. > :05:07.the headwinds Australia is facing at the moment with lower commodity

:05:08. > :05:10.prices and slowing growth in China. Sharanjit Leyl is in our

:05:11. > :05:30.Asia Business Hub in Singapore. Nice to see you. Yeah. Australia is

:05:31. > :05:35.known as the Lucky country. The latest economic figures confirm

:05:36. > :05:39.that. Those growth figures were better than expected. Surprising

:05:40. > :05:44.when set against the context of Australia being a major commodity

:05:45. > :05:50.producing nation at a time when those commodities are actually worth

:05:51. > :06:00.far less. That is due to the fact that they are aiming to mind their

:06:01. > :06:04.commodities with the context of the falling Australian dollar. -- mine.

:06:05. > :06:06.The price has dropped and the industry in Australia remains

:06:07. > :06:15.competitive compared to other commodity exporting countries like

:06:16. > :06:19.Brazil which is struggling with recession. And we are looking at

:06:20. > :06:26.other figures also better, like tourism, finance, education, they

:06:27. > :06:30.are really parts of Australia's economy and they have benefited from

:06:31. > :06:36.that weak Australian dollar. And the agricultural system as well as

:06:37. > :06:41.demand in Asia increases for Australian meat. Thank you.

:06:42. > :06:43.Interesting news coming from Australia.

:06:44. > :06:47.At the Geneva Motor Show this week, talk of a revolution is in the air.

:06:48. > :06:50.Self-driving car concepts are everywhere, giving us a glimpse

:06:51. > :06:53.of what a driverless environment might actually be like.

:06:54. > :06:58.Theo Leggett has been looking into the future.

:06:59. > :07:05.If the car of the future is going to be driverless who needs a steering

:07:06. > :07:11.wheel? Let's put that away and bring up this high-definition screen. I

:07:12. > :07:18.can use it to play games or to work, maybe look at my e-mails. --

:07:19. > :07:27.do. Let's bring those. A nice sound system. This is the brainchild of a

:07:28. > :07:32.Swiss think tank looking at what the future of a driverless vehicle could

:07:33. > :07:36.be. It doesn't have to look like this but it could be. If I want to

:07:37. > :07:43.go back to old-fashioned driving them the steering wheel comes back

:07:44. > :07:47.out again. -- then. Many people claimed that the passion of driving

:07:48. > :07:59.is being taken away from them. I don't agree. You can push a button

:08:00. > :08:03.to get autopilot switched off. You might think a car like this is a

:08:04. > :08:09.figment of the imagination, after all, it has a droid on the back. But

:08:10. > :08:15.ideas like these are becoming decidedly mainstream. Look at this

:08:16. > :08:21.one. It comes from a mainstream manufacturer. It is from Nissan.

:08:22. > :08:24.Look at the steering wheel. There she goes, tucked away into the

:08:25. > :08:33.dashboard. Outcomes your entertainment. -- out comes. This is

:08:34. > :08:39.just another concept car, obviously, so does it really matter? Nissan

:08:40. > :08:43.says it does. Many of the technologies developed in the

:08:44. > :08:47.prototype will soon find their way into cars like the Qashqai over

:08:48. > :08:56.their which you really can buy. -- there.

:08:57. > :09:00.Oil giant, Shell, is being sued in London

:09:01. > :09:03.for the second time in five years over spills in the Niger Delta.

:09:04. > :09:05.Two communities are claiming compensation and want Shell

:09:06. > :09:10.Shell said it is at an "early stage" in reviewing the claims and that the

:09:11. > :09:14.US chipmaker Qualcomm has agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle

:09:15. > :09:17.allegations it violated bribery laws by hiring younger relatives

:09:18. > :09:19.According to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Qualcomm

:09:20. > :09:22.went to "extraordinary lengths to gain a business advantage".

:09:23. > :09:24.The probe found the firm also provided gifts,

:09:25. > :09:26.travel and entertainment to try and influence officials.

:09:27. > :09:36.Qualcomm did not admit or deny the allegations.

:09:37. > :09:44.The financial markets. An interesting day so far. Very

:09:45. > :09:50.positive, especially for Japan, up 4%. Hong Kong, also strong. The

:09:51. > :09:55.United States, I don't know if we can show you, but the Dow Jones

:09:56. > :10:04.ended up 2%, so did the main markets. That bodes well for a good

:10:05. > :10:10.session in Asia. The yen is cheaper. That is helping shares in Tokyo.

:10:11. > :10:17.That's all from me. I will see you soon when we look at
