:00:19. > :00:22.The internet giant owns up to what could be the biggest cyber

:00:23. > :00:26.Plus - take off for India's defence ambitions, as it prepares to sign

:00:27. > :00:53.We'll be speaking to a defence expert about that huge India deal

:00:54. > :01:02.We start in Silicon Valley where there are some very red

:01:03. > :01:08.Internet giant Yahoo has admitted it has been the victim of the biggest

:01:09. > :01:17.It says back in 2014 the personal details of 500 million -

:01:18. > :01:27.that's half a billion - of its users were stolen.

:01:28. > :01:31.one has to ask if there was even half a billion users!

:01:32. > :01:34.If you use - or used Yahoo - how worried should you be?

:01:35. > :01:38.The company says hackers may have stolen users' names,

:01:39. > :01:41.e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, encrypted passwords

:01:42. > :01:47.The good news, according to Yahoo, is that they may not have obtained

:01:48. > :01:49.some of the really important stuff: unprotected passwords,

:01:50. > :01:51.payment card data and bank account information.

:01:52. > :02:00.Still this is hugely embarrassing for Yahoo.

:02:01. > :02:03.And more than a little annoying for US telecoms giant Verizon

:02:04. > :02:06.which agreed to buy the internet company in a multi-billion dollar

:02:07. > :02:10.The big question - why it has taken so long

:02:11. > :02:13.for the company to discover and then own up to

:02:14. > :02:16.From San Francisco - here's our technology reporter

:02:17. > :02:25.Rumours that Yahoo had been hacked have been circulating for a couple

:02:26. > :02:28.of months. It was initially estimated that 200 million users may

:02:29. > :02:34.have been hit but it's turned out to be much worse than that. In terms of

:02:35. > :02:38.size, when we look at the other mega breaches as we know them this year,

:02:39. > :02:44.things like linked in when 100 and million records will stop MySpace

:02:45. > :02:48.was another one. This was bigger than that. It is unprecedented in

:02:49. > :02:53.terms of the number of records impacted. Both Yahoo and the FBI are

:02:54. > :03:00.investigating the source of the attack. Yahoo! Said it was state

:03:01. > :03:04.sponsored. It could have serious ramifications for the future of

:03:05. > :03:12.Yahoo. In July, it was sold to telecom giant Verizon. Ben Lee found

:03:13. > :03:17.out about the hack in the last few days and is now considering its own

:03:18. > :03:23.options. Questions are also being asked about Yahoo boss who has

:03:24. > :03:26.presided over by the decline of the company and the largest online

:03:27. > :03:32.security breach in history. It's another sad chapter for what was

:03:33. > :03:35.once the most popular website on the Internet.

:03:36. > :03:40.We are also talking about this - it's the latest Rafale fighter jet

:03:41. > :03:43.made by Dassault of France - and later this Friday India

:03:44. > :03:46.will sign an agreement with the French to buy 36 of them

:03:47. > :03:48.in a deal that could be worth $9 billion.

:03:49. > :03:52.It is a big moment for India - which is modernising its ageing air

:03:53. > :03:56.It's also a symbol of big changes in the global defence industry.

:03:57. > :03:59.India has become the world's fourth largest spender on defence

:04:00. > :04:02.after China, the US and Saudi Arabia.

:04:03. > :04:06.Low oil prices mean Russia and Saudi have less money to spend on arms,

:04:07. > :04:15.boosting India's importance for the industry.

:04:16. > :04:19.The global trade is predicted to hit a record $69 billion this year -

:04:20. > :04:21.with France set to overtake Russia as the biggest exporter

:04:22. > :04:36.It is a deal that has been years in the making. India desperately needs

:04:37. > :04:40.to modernise its air force and with hundreds of billions of dollars in

:04:41. > :04:48.its war chest, it has the money to pay. With a special invitation to

:04:49. > :04:54.President Francois Hollande, India send a clear message that it wants

:04:55. > :04:59.to buy French. Under the deal, India will get 36 fighter jets ready to go

:05:00. > :05:03.straight into service. The planes will come equipped with

:05:04. > :05:08.state-of-the-art science. They can carry nuclear weapons, to come up by

:05:09. > :05:15.increasing the number of jets in the air force fleet. India hopes to

:05:16. > :05:19.become equipped to combat any threat from China and Pakistan. It is not

:05:20. > :05:26.just another business deal for India. Hoping for strategic

:05:27. > :05:30.long-term relationship with France, they are making sure India is

:05:31. > :05:35.getting as much as it can out of the purchase. Not only did front agree

:05:36. > :05:39.to reduce the price, it is the offset clause. It means almost half

:05:40. > :05:42.the value of the contract will be invested here in India, generating

:05:43. > :05:49.more jobs and creating more business. The deal is part of a $150

:05:50. > :05:57.billion defence overhaul India has launched. Experts say the government

:05:58. > :06:02.needs to make more deals and soon. The government of India has not been

:06:03. > :06:07.able to insure the appropriate modernisation of existing platforms

:06:08. > :06:11.and the induction of new platforms. As a term we often use in the armed

:06:12. > :06:21.forces, obsolescence. With the capital O, with a B. This particular

:06:22. > :06:29.decision is really a case of making up a very, very huge gap in terms of

:06:30. > :06:33.injured -- inventory. They were averagely looking for 126 jets that

:06:34. > :06:37.the number was scaled back last year. The first of the new jets will

:06:38. > :06:42.take at least three years to arrive on Indian soil. After years of

:06:43. > :06:44.bargaining and an already ageing fleet of fighter jets, that delivery

:06:45. > :06:48.can't come soon enough. Howard Wheeldon is an independent

:06:49. > :07:03.defence, aerospace and industry Great to see you. Thanks for coming

:07:04. > :07:08.in at this ungodly hours. Why a French plane? How does it stack up

:07:09. > :07:11.with what else is out there? France has been very active

:07:12. > :07:14.internationally. Their defence Minister has got out and tried to

:07:15. > :07:20.sell this aircraft, salads defence equipment. This is the first time

:07:21. > :07:30.the French have actually been banished to export this. It could be

:07:31. > :07:38.making the plane? Ultimately. The majority of them that we are talking

:07:39. > :07:42.about today, 36, originally 126 was intended. That was announced four

:07:43. > :07:48.years ago. Over the past four years, there was lots of negotiations and

:07:49. > :07:52.lots of struggle because basically, the rest are predominantly the fact

:07:53. > :07:59.that India wants to assemble them in India. It wants to push its industry

:08:00. > :08:03.as it has been doing with Hawkes, they have been assembled in India

:08:04. > :08:09.for very many years. This purchase of the jets is part of the bigger

:08:10. > :08:16.picture, 150 billion is what the war chest holds. I can imagine arms,

:08:17. > :08:22.exporting countries must be lining up a knocking on the door. India is

:08:23. > :08:28.expanding its defence budget by 70% per year. It faces a number of

:08:29. > :08:32.threats. We have seen a rise in tensions with Pakistan over the last

:08:33. > :08:37.ten days and that is just one example. India needs to better

:08:38. > :08:40.defend itself. It has a lot of defence equipment but it's pretty

:08:41. > :08:44.old and it needs to modernise. That is what it is doing. Talking about

:08:45. > :08:49.defending itself and its defence budget is up again but it appears

:08:50. > :08:56.around the world, we are seeing a trend. Countries are spending big.

:08:57. > :09:00.We are seeing an increasing trend. The level of threats against the

:09:01. > :09:05.Western world and Middle East countries is rising. Tensions are

:09:06. > :09:10.rising. We are seeing defence spending budgets rising. The same

:09:11. > :09:13.applies in North America. Britain is expanding its defence budget.

:09:14. > :09:17.Germany and France have been slow but Europe will have to increase

:09:18. > :09:21.spending on defence. It's too low and Nato needs to be further

:09:22. > :09:25.strengthened. We have also heard from Mr Trump. If he becomes

:09:26. > :09:27.president, he will be spending big as well, apparently. So he says.

:09:28. > :09:31.Maersk, the Copenhagen-based shipping giant, is to be split up.

:09:32. > :09:34.The 120 year old Danish conglomerate is the world's biggest shipping line

:09:35. > :09:39.It has been hit hard by sharp falls in container shipping rates

:09:40. > :09:42.and the plunge in crude prices, which has affected its oil division.

:09:43. > :09:48.It will now refocus on its core transport business

:09:49. > :09:51.The World Trade organisation says the EU has failed to comply

:09:52. > :09:54.with rulings that it should cut subsidies to aircraft maker Airbus.

:09:55. > :09:58.Rival Boeing says it could pave the way for the US to seek up

:09:59. > :10:03.to $10bn in annual retaliatory tariffs.

:10:04. > :10:06.It follows years of accusations between the two aerospace giants

:10:07. > :10:11.The WTO is yet to rule on a similar EU complaint that Boeing benefits

:10:12. > :10:22.from billions of dollars in tax breaks.

:10:23. > :10:27.I will be back to the act of newspapers. That look at.

:10:28. > :10:31.Don't forget you can get in touch with me and some of the team

:10:32. > :10:41.More than half of female workers have experienced period pain that

:10:42. > :10:44.affects their ability to do their job, according
