:00:00. > :00:00.Now for the latest financial news with Sally Bundock

:00:07. > :00:20.Investors await the latest earnings news from Alibaba as the worlds

:00:21. > :00:26.biggest on line retailer gears up for "Singles Day."

:00:27. > :00:32.US coal miners say they won't vote for Hilary Clinton as she pledges

:00:33. > :00:34.to move away from fossil fuels if she becomes President.

:00:35. > :00:47.Also in the programme, we'll cross over to Asia to hear how

:00:48. > :00:58.markets have been reacting to news of a new Prime Minister.

:00:59. > :01:01.A reshuffle of top jobs in South Korea.

:01:02. > :01:05.We start with news of a true titan of the business world,

:01:06. > :01:08.The Chinese firm is one of the biggest e-commerce companies

:01:09. > :01:12.So, when it reports its latest results in a few hours' time,

:01:13. > :01:14.it's going to attract a lot of attention.

:01:15. > :01:17.This gives you a sense of its enormity.

:01:18. > :01:19.Last year, transactions on Alibaba sites totalled some $462 billion.

:01:20. > :01:22.That's more than eBay and Amazon combined.

:01:23. > :01:25.The company became one of the globe's most valuable tech

:01:26. > :01:28.firms after raising $25 billion from its US stock market launch.

:01:29. > :01:31.Investors will be looking for news of its plans for global expansion.

:01:32. > :01:33.It's mobile payment system, Alipay is key to that,

:01:34. > :01:36.with plans for it to be introduced in Europe,

:01:37. > :01:43.Alipay is also important for the company's desire

:01:44. > :01:46.to capitalise on the shift by consumers to shopping

:01:47. > :01:59.Nick Hood is a business risk advisor at Opus Restructuring.

:02:00. > :02:11.Good morning. Good morning. Alibaba will tell us how it is doing soon.

:02:12. > :02:15.It will come out with quarterly earnings of $1 billion according to

:02:16. > :02:22.some analysts, making it four times as profitable as Amazon, despite all

:02:23. > :02:27.sorts of questions about on line profitability. This is one business

:02:28. > :02:33.doing well. It is interesting. It has been doing well, up 77% since

:02:34. > :02:38.being listed in the US. But there is a lot of talk about how short

:02:39. > :02:45.sellers and speculators are shorting the stock. They are playing with the

:02:46. > :02:52.stock, thinking it could be wobbly in 2017. Why is that? The issue

:02:53. > :02:56.facing it is the doubts about where the Chinese economy is going to be

:02:57. > :03:02.there is no doubt that at this stage in its developer and it is heavily

:03:03. > :03:06.linked to the Chinese economy. And depending on how that goes, Alibaba

:03:07. > :03:13.will follow. It is about size and scale. The population of mainland

:03:14. > :03:21.China is enormous and so is Alibaba at the same time. On Singles Day

:03:22. > :03:28.last year they made more than $14 billion in one day. What about

:03:29. > :03:35.Alibaba outside of mainland China? It is certainly gearing up to move

:03:36. > :03:39.offshore, if you like. Outside the behemoth that China is. At the same

:03:40. > :03:45.time, Amazon is attacking it in its own home market, launching Amazon

:03:46. > :03:52.Prime. This is a game played between these two enormous companies, with

:03:53. > :03:58.Alibaba trying to move out of China and vice-versa. Where the youth

:03:59. > :04:07.think buying things outside of mainland China might go to Alibaba

:04:08. > :04:12.first? We are a bit away from that. There is no indication there is a

:04:13. > :04:19.shift. If you look at millennial is in the US at the moment, Amazon is

:04:20. > :04:23.there most trusted brand. It will take an awful lot of time and effort

:04:24. > :04:28.to shake that. Thank you for your time, Nick. That is interesting. We

:04:29. > :04:34.will get the results from Alibaba... It is about 11 o'clock at the UK

:04:35. > :04:37.time. We will hear it it then and update you.

:04:38. > :04:40.With less than a week to go before the US Presidential Election,

:04:41. > :04:43.let's turn our attention to the Republican stronghold of West

:04:44. > :04:45.The Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton has trailed

:04:46. > :04:47.there after comments she made in March.

:04:48. > :04:52."We are going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies

:04:53. > :04:56.It's a reflection of her goal of moving away from fossil fuels

:04:57. > :05:00.But the coal industry is one of the state's biggest employers

:05:01. > :05:02.and her remarks alienated miners, many of whom are already

:05:03. > :05:12.Michelle Fleury reports from Boone County, West Virginia.

:05:13. > :05:22.The mountains of West Virginia, with a thick canopy of trees. It is hard

:05:23. > :05:26.to believe this is the heart of American coal country. In just seven

:05:27. > :05:38.years, coal production in the area has dropped 50%. David lost his job

:05:39. > :05:43.in April. Now he runs a farm stand. I need money. I need to make good

:05:44. > :05:47.wages. It is a little risky but it is good money. I would not support

:05:48. > :05:56.Hillary Clinton because she is against coal. Donald Trump is the

:05:57. > :06:01.best of the two evils. Many here feel left behind and forgotten. Coal

:06:02. > :06:07.jobs has been left behind by tougher environmental rules and cheaper gas.

:06:08. > :06:12.With each bankruptcy and mine closure there has been more jobs

:06:13. > :06:22.left and more pain in communities like this. Pro-coal West Virginia

:06:23. > :06:29.used to be out and out unionised Democrat area, but the Clinton was

:06:30. > :06:32.the last definite democratic candidate liked by them. There is

:06:33. > :06:39.more talk about President Obama's war or on coal. Many like this man

:06:40. > :06:43.blame him for closures of mines. When you have a president that says

:06:44. > :06:47.we will not make it illegal but we will bankrupt those for using coal

:06:48. > :06:55.fired power plants, it is quite personal. When you have a candidate

:06:56. > :06:59.that says we are going to put a lot of coal businesses and miners out of

:07:00. > :07:03.business, that is very personal here. Lot there is no compromise.

:07:04. > :07:06.Many people in the region feel abandoned by politicians, even those

:07:07. > :07:14.fighting against the coal industry, like this activist, Maria. We built

:07:15. > :07:24.this country. We built this country from the coal my dad of the ground.

:07:25. > :07:32.-- mined out. We are owed something back. We are needing something more

:07:33. > :07:36.than the pollution and poverty. Few here expect the coal industry to

:07:37. > :07:40.return to its glory days. But Donald Trump is offering hope to a group

:07:41. > :07:48.who don't feel politicians in Washington speak for them. Michelle

:07:49. > :07:51.Fleury, BBC News, West Virginia. It is all changing in South Korea!

:07:52. > :07:54.In the last few hours, South Korean President Park Geun-hye

:07:55. > :07:56.has named a new Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

:07:57. > :08:00.She's looking to contain the scandal surrounding her and her confidante -

:08:01. > :08:02.a woman alleged to have had an inappropriate influence

:08:03. > :08:20.The plot thickens. Will this help are? It looks like it may or may

:08:21. > :08:27.not. We will find out over the next days and weeks. But this influence

:08:28. > :08:32.scandal is rocking the South Korean government. There was a policy

:08:33. > :08:40.adviser under the former president and he is the new Prime Minister. He

:08:41. > :08:45.will be the fourth to serve under President Park Geun-hye. And another

:08:46. > :08:50.will be taking over the tough financial role. He will be her fifth

:08:51. > :08:54.Finance Minister in four years. The moves are not likely to result in

:08:55. > :08:58.any positive changes according to analysts. But the uncertainty of how

:08:59. > :09:04.much longer she will remain in power is impacting market sentiment. Her

:09:05. > :09:08.approval ratings have sunk to single digits in the wake of these

:09:09. > :09:13.allegations. The markets are continuing to retreat, with one of

:09:14. > :09:20.the worst performances over the past month, falling by another 1.5%. The

:09:21. > :09:25.currency is down by 1% against the US dollar. Certainly, all the

:09:26. > :09:31.changes, the scandal, they are impacting the South Korean market

:09:32. > :09:36.and the government. Sally. Thanks a lot, Rico Hizon. These are the

:09:37. > :09:40.markets. All our trading lower, losing quite a bit of ground. The

:09:41. > :09:46.Nikkei is down. The Swiss franc and the yen and gold are getting

:09:47. > :09:51.stronger. People are getting worried about the outcome of the US

:09:52. > :10:03.election. We in the US as well. We will talk about that more in a few

:10:04. > :10:12.minutes. -- we are seeing declines in the US as well.

:10:13. > :10:16.Politicians and business leaders from both sides of the Irish border
