:00:15. > :00:17.It's not so much a question of will they -

:00:18. > :00:21.a US rate hike is almost a certainty today.

:00:22. > :00:27.Now the question is when will the next one come/

:00:28. > :00:29.All agree solar panels provide cheap energy,

:00:30. > :00:33.but what do you do if you have nowhere to put them?

:00:34. > :00:46.Also in the program, Carlos Ghosn saved Nissan

:00:47. > :00:56.But can he also fix the troubled carmaker Mitsubishi Motors?

:00:57. > :01:01.The US Federal Reserve is all but certain to raise rates

:01:02. > :01:10.later today for only the second time in nearly a decade.

:01:11. > :01:16.Economists expect the central bank to raise its key

:01:17. > :01:20.rate by a quarter percentage point to between 0.5% and 0.75%

:01:21. > :01:26.from the current range of 0.25% to 0.5%.

:01:27. > :01:31.And with a rate rise assumed, the focus among investors has

:01:32. > :01:34.shifted to how a Trump economy will affect the outlook

:01:35. > :01:54.6000 that is the number of parcels processed in the Bronx New York with

:01:55. > :02:02.Laura Bassett shopping online, business is busier than ever. --

:02:03. > :02:10.with all of us. 355 billion packages. The hum of the conveyor

:02:11. > :02:15.belt of welcome soundtrack. FedEx revenue from ground presentation has

:02:16. > :02:20.nearly doubled in the past five years. It is early in the morning

:02:21. > :02:26.here in the Bronx, packages being prepared to go out on the road and

:02:27. > :02:30.it is not just FedEx delivering the goods, so is the US economy so much

:02:31. > :02:37.so that the Federal Reserve is getting ready to raise interest

:02:38. > :02:40.rates for the first time in a year. The last time policymakers inside

:02:41. > :02:46.here raised rates they indicated there would be four more in 2016 but

:02:47. > :02:55.we as in the economy meant that did not happen. We expect more realistic

:02:56. > :03:02.figures than this time last year. They were dealing with collapse in

:03:03. > :03:07.commodity prices and dangers in the markets all over the world. This man

:03:08. > :03:13.is changing expectations. Economists believe his pledge to cut taxes and

:03:14. > :03:17.spend on infrastructure would boost growth and that will have an impact

:03:18. > :03:29.on the size and pace of future rate rises. We expect to in 2017 and more

:03:30. > :03:33.in 2018. But we'll find out if it is to be more aggressive. Janet Yellen

:03:34. > :03:38.is getting a helping hand from Wall Street. A stronger dollar are ready

:03:39. > :03:41.squeezing the economy, giving her more time to assess policy under a

:03:42. > :03:56.Trump administration. James Foley is a senior foreign

:03:57. > :04:01.exchange strategist. Everybody is agreed we are looking at a quarter

:04:02. > :04:07.of a percent. The question is what is going to happen next year? It is

:04:08. > :04:14.about the tone that is sad and the market as at an interesting phase --

:04:15. > :04:21.sect. We talk about inflation quite a lot and we have Donald Trumps. It

:04:22. > :04:25.is pushing higher on the anticipation that Trump will spend

:04:26. > :04:32.that money and take away regulation and we will have faster growth but

:04:33. > :04:37.not all economists are great. Some are sceptical about the amount of

:04:38. > :04:41.inflation that will come. Lots of effects keeping inflation low in the

:04:42. > :04:48.past couple of years, demographics, workers, and low earnings growth.

:04:49. > :04:53.Without those of effects changing, there may not be too much inflation

:04:54. > :05:01.priced into the market. Something that will possibly change is higher

:05:02. > :05:08.or you'll prices -- oil prices. With the still taking place in the New

:05:09. > :05:17.Year, we could some say Sea oil at $60 a barrel. Immediately it is

:05:18. > :05:25.pushing up energy costs in Europe and the UK, is that the same in the

:05:26. > :05:30.US? Not the same degree but we will see inflation but it is type of

:05:31. > :05:34.inflation - cost push inflation. By the time you go out and spend your

:05:35. > :05:42.money on gas and petrol, you have less money for everything else. Cost

:05:43. > :05:48.inflation is tax. What we really want to see is a demand pulled

:05:49. > :05:56.inflation where we have more money to spend when our earning goes up.

:05:57. > :06:04.There are structural effects keeping a lid on that across the Western

:06:05. > :06:06.world. Thank you very much. We are working so hard and Jane will be

:06:07. > :06:12.back for the paper review. Singapore is one of

:06:13. > :06:15.the sunniest places in Asia. But space is hard to find -

:06:16. > :06:18.and solar energy has been slow Now the world's largest floating

:06:19. > :06:22.solar testbed has been set up doing Charlotte Glennie went

:06:23. > :06:31.to find out more. Right near the equator it is always

:06:32. > :06:36.someone in Singapore yet less than 1% of the city power is generated by

:06:37. > :06:42.the sun. The adoption of solar energy in Asia has been a bit slower

:06:43. > :06:48.than in Europe so the markets over their have been booming over the

:06:49. > :06:52.last 10- 15 years. Most countries in Southeast Asia have to wait until

:06:53. > :06:59.the global market has built up a capacity and learned from economies

:07:00. > :07:04.of scale. Solar energy is cheap now and China has become Asia's leading

:07:05. > :07:09.user of solar power. Japan is also big dog and India is pushing to be.

:07:10. > :07:15.South East Asia is slowly catching up, led like Thailand. Trouble is,

:07:16. > :07:19.in places by Singapore, there is not much land for installing solar

:07:20. > :07:25.panels that so scientists are looking for alternatives. Ten

:07:26. > :07:28.floating panels have been set up provided by companies from all over

:07:29. > :07:35.the world. Each is designed differently. The way they float, to

:07:36. > :07:39.the type and size of the panels used to the way they are a range. The

:07:40. > :07:46.goal is to find out which one works the best. The more direct sunlight

:07:47. > :07:51.solar panel gets, the more it heats up but the more it does so, the less

:07:52. > :07:58.power it produces soap floating systems are being tested to see if

:07:59. > :08:02.they are more efficient stop in the building department in Singapore, a

:08:03. > :08:09.citystate, you have a lot of heat from the buildings. If you go out to

:08:10. > :08:16.waters, that is what we are trying to test. How much is the cooling

:08:17. > :08:21.effect from the water on the solar panels and how much more electricity

:08:22. > :08:26.we can generate compared to system on a rooftop, for examples. Experts

:08:27. > :08:33.say the region 's governments need to stop subsidising conventional

:08:34. > :08:37.electricity and give room for harnessing energy from the sun.

:08:38. > :08:40.It is a big day at scandal-hit Mitsubishi Motors.

:08:41. > :08:43.Shareholders are expected to approve Carlos Ghosn as chairman

:08:44. > :08:46.He currently runs rivals Nissan and Renault.

:08:47. > :08:49.They will also vote on whether to TRIPLE the annual pay

:08:50. > :08:52.packages of Mitsubishi Motors' top executives.

:08:53. > :08:55.Mr Ghosn is taking over the reins at Mitsubishi after Nissan bought

:08:56. > :09:01.a controlling stake earlier this year.

:09:02. > :09:04.US bank Wells Fargo has been hit with restrictions after attempts

:09:05. > :09:07.to fix issues with its bankruptcy plan failed.

:09:08. > :09:11.Banks labelled "too big to fail" must have a so-called "living will"

:09:12. > :09:15.that would allow them to close down without the help of public money.

:09:16. > :09:18.Wells Fargo will be barred from opening international branches

:09:19. > :09:30.and buying non-bank companies until it satisfies the regulators.

:09:31. > :09:45.Looking at the markets... They are treading water. Waiting for the

:09:46. > :09:49.announcement. It is all about comments, what is said following

:09:50. > :09:59.that rate decision about future rate moves. Look at the US, the Dow going

:10:00. > :10:03.up and up, will it hit 20,000 this year? Who knows. I will see you

:10:04. > :10:06.soon.
