:00:00. > :00:17.Talking trade - Trumps Vice President is in Brussels meeting

:00:18. > :00:19.with key leaders from the European Union -

:00:20. > :00:21.but will the worlds two most powerful trading blocks

:00:22. > :00:28.The American food giant, Kraft Heinz, walks away

:00:29. > :00:30.from its proposed merger deal with rival Unilever.

:00:31. > :00:40.It would have been the largest merger ever.

:00:41. > :00:45.Also in the programme, a nose for talent.

:00:46. > :00:47.India's perfume industry takes on a unique hiring approach.

:00:48. > :00:54.The US Vice President Mike Pence meets the President

:00:55. > :00:56.of the European Council Donald Tusk in Brussels this morning.

:00:57. > :00:59.They will try to mend fences after throwing rhetorical fire

:01:00. > :01:11.crackers at each other in recent weeks.

:01:12. > :01:14.While Mr Tusk described Trump as a threat to Europe,

:01:15. > :01:17.Mr Trump has praised the UK's decision to leave the Union

:01:18. > :01:19.and angered many nations with his travel ban.

:01:20. > :01:21.Between them the US and the European Union

:01:22. > :01:23.are the world's two biggest trading blocs -

:01:24. > :01:27.figures from 2014 puts the value of all goods and services traded

:01:28. > :01:29.between them worth over one trillion dollars.

:01:30. > :01:32.And that favoured the EU - it sold 91 billion dollars more

:01:33. > :01:34.stuff to the USA then the other way round.

:01:35. > :01:36.Something the Trump administration would like to change.

:01:37. > :01:50.And since 2013 the EU and US have been trying to broker a free

:01:51. > :01:53.and Investment Partnership - TTIP - that would eliminate tariffs

:01:54. > :01:57.But President Trump has said nothing about it since his election

:01:58. > :01:59.- many though expect TTIP to be scrapped.

:02:00. > :02:01.Where differences have emerged its been over currency

:02:02. > :02:03.valuations, car exports and financial regulations.

:02:04. > :02:06.With me is Jag Singh, a political strategist and former

:02:07. > :02:11.Special Advisor to the Democratic National Committee.

:02:12. > :02:22.Good morning. Interesting because we have the outlined the various

:02:23. > :02:33.rhetorically going on between the US and the EU, it's not been

:02:34. > :02:40.particularly a -- amicable. We have to look at Mike Pence's visit to

:02:41. > :02:46.Europe. He is the tolerable face of the administration. We have to view

:02:47. > :02:49.it in the context of one trying to reassure European allies that

:02:50. > :02:55.America is committed to Nato but also that Mike Pence is a safe pair

:02:56. > :03:03.of hands. For all of Trump's rhetoric on the campaign trail about

:03:04. > :03:08.EU and Brexit and Nato, there is the team in place and Mike Pence is part

:03:09. > :03:14.of that team. We have outlined how important the two parts of the world

:03:15. > :03:19.are in terms of trade but today's talks are to do with security and

:03:20. > :03:24.Nato. Numerous American president since the 1970s have railed against

:03:25. > :03:27.what they see as the freeloading of European allies with regards to

:03:28. > :03:35.defence budgets and military spending. It is not illogical to see

:03:36. > :03:39.that it is probably not fair for American and British taxpayers to

:03:40. > :03:43.foot the expense for Nato. There are only four countries within the 28

:03:44. > :03:48.member Nato grouping that actually have committed to spending 2% of

:03:49. > :03:54.their annual budget on defence spending and only four countries are

:03:55. > :04:03.only matching or meeting the self-imposed number. Today, although

:04:04. > :04:06.they will talk about security and Nato, it does lay important

:04:07. > :04:13.foundations for future will relations between the US and Europe.

:04:14. > :04:22.How will that go in terms of trade? We don't know. The US - EU

:04:23. > :04:26.relationship at the moment is marred by uncertainty. Nobody really knows

:04:27. > :04:32.how President Trump will treat any given issue on any given day. The US

:04:33. > :04:42.trade has just gone through the confirmation process. There is a big

:04:43. > :04:48.free trade component. There is called stop optimism with people

:04:49. > :04:58.like Mike Pence who are staunch free-trade believers. -- there is

:04:59. > :05:04.optimism. Uncertainty looms large. We appreciate your analysis, thank

:05:05. > :05:06.you for coming in. We will have more discussions when we have a look at

:05:07. > :05:08.the newspaper. The biggest potential merger deal

:05:09. > :05:11.in corporate history is not happening - after the American food

:05:12. > :05:14.giant Kraft-Heinz said it was dropping its bid

:05:15. > :05:16.to buy rival - Unilever. The Anglo-Dutch company,

:05:17. > :05:18.which makes Marmite, Lipton tea and Dove soap,

:05:19. > :05:21.rejected a $143 billion bid Now Kraft has said it has amicably

:05:22. > :05:34.agreed to scrap the plan. It will not pursue further and come

:05:35. > :05:38.through with another deal. We will talk about that in a bit more

:05:39. > :05:40.detail, as I say, when we reviewed the papers. It's dominating the

:05:41. > :05:42.financial press today. China is stopping all imports

:05:43. > :05:45.of coal from North Korea in a move that effectively cuts the secretive

:05:46. > :05:48.regime's exports in half. The ban will remain in place

:05:49. > :05:52.until the end of the year in a bid to ramp up the pressure on Pyongyang

:05:53. > :05:55.after its missile test last weekend. Last week China rejected a one

:05:56. > :05:58.million dollar shipment of North Korean coal -

:05:59. > :06:00.the country's biggest export. Single malt Scotch whisky topped

:06:01. > :06:03.?1bn worth of exports for the first A New Zealand judge has upheld

:06:04. > :06:09.an earlier court ruling that flamboyant internet entrepreneur

:06:10. > :06:11.Kim Dotcom and three of his colleagues can be

:06:12. > :06:13.extradited to the US Sharanjit Leyl has been

:06:14. > :06:29.following the case from our The decision is coming five years

:06:30. > :06:35.after US authorities shut down Dotcom's website Megaupload and

:06:36. > :06:36.filed charges of conspiracy, fraud, copyright infringement, racketeering

:06:37. > :06:42.and money laundering. Three other and money laundering. Three other

:06:43. > :06:49.people of Megaupload could also be extradited. All four of them have

:06:50. > :06:53.said they will appeal against the decision. Mr Dotcom has long argued

:06:54. > :06:58.he was not responsible for the content that others are shared on

:06:59. > :07:01.his site Megaupload which was shut down in 2012. It essentially allowed

:07:02. > :07:09.millions of people to download movies and songs for free. We know

:07:10. > :07:12.he was born in Germany but he now has a flamboyant lifestyle after

:07:13. > :07:17.changing his name to Kim Dotcom. There was a massive police raid in

:07:18. > :07:21.his mansion. When he got out on bail, he released a music album and

:07:22. > :07:26.he started another Internet filesharing company and launched a

:07:27. > :07:30.political party with a -- which unsuccessfully contended in the 2014

:07:31. > :07:34.election. He has been fighting this extradition since the start and says

:07:35. > :07:37.that today's decision won't be the last. The case is likely to be

:07:38. > :07:40.appealed right up to New Zealand's Supreme Court. All right, Sharanjit

:07:41. > :07:41.Leyl, thank you. India has among the largest number

:07:42. > :07:45.of blind people in the world - more than five million according

:07:46. > :07:47.to government numbers. The country has few employment

:07:48. > :07:49.opportunities for them, but now a private firm is training

:07:50. > :07:53.blind people to work in perfume and fragrance companies,

:07:54. > :08:13.using their sense of smell. This man became blind at the age of

:08:14. > :08:16.three due to a smallpox infection. Last -- like most visually impaired

:08:17. > :08:21.people in India, finding work has always been a struggle. One year

:08:22. > :08:28.ago, he got a job with a company that makes fragrances. His role is

:08:29. > :08:29.to ensure that the aroma is going into that Perkins are pure by

:08:30. > :08:42.selling them. -- Perth Demons. TRANSLATION: People respect me at my

:08:43. > :08:52.workplace, I am now living with dignity. -- perfumes. It is in a

:08:53. > :08:56.course like this that he was trained. It found that people that

:08:57. > :09:01.can't see have a keener sense of smell but the general population. In

:09:02. > :09:04.India, there are laws that mandate that a small percentage of

:09:05. > :09:08.government jobs should be reserved for people with disabilities but

:09:09. > :09:14.they are often difficult to get and there is not enough of them. That is

:09:15. > :09:20.why perhaps the solution lies with the and new opportunities like this

:09:21. > :09:24.one but are being created. Initially, his employer hired people

:09:25. > :09:29.like him for corporate charity but the company now says it also makes

:09:30. > :09:38.good business sense. Still, finding suitable jobs for all of the

:09:39. > :09:43.students have been cast. -- tough. It has been hard. We need to go

:09:44. > :09:47.door-to-door and ask to hire these people. They wonder how they will

:09:48. > :09:51.get to work, what kind of support they need to give, how will the

:09:52. > :09:57.surroundings be like? How will they adjust to other people. Those are

:09:58. > :10:01.all the apprehensions. Ravi has a long commute to work on public

:10:02. > :10:07.transport that is not very easy for him to use. But, the promise of a

:10:08. > :10:15.salary at the end of each month is enough to make him go the distance.

:10:16. > :10:25.In Asia, it is a mixed picture in the markets. A slight gain for

:10:26. > :10:32.Japan. Japan publishing news of its biggest trade deficit since the

:10:33. > :10:37.month of January. It has impacted Japan. That is all from me for now.

:10:38. > :10:44.The UE in a minute when we look through the papers.

:10:45. > :10:47.People who abuse animals should face up to five years in prison -

:10:48. > :10:51.instead of just the current six month maximum in England and Wales.

:10:52. > :10:54.That's according to Battersea Dogs and Cats home -
