:00:00. > :00:00.Now for the latest financial news with Aaron Heslehurst,

:00:00. > :00:19.Face-to-face and just the start of what President Trump calls

:00:20. > :00:25.Yep - the leaders of the world's two biggest economies finally meet,

:00:26. > :00:33.as the world holds its breath to see if these can avoid a trade war.

:00:34. > :00:37.And a lawsuit that probably runs for more than 140 characters -

:00:38. > :00:40.Twitter is suing the US government after the Trump administration

:00:41. > :00:52.demanded to know the identity of an anti-Trump account.

:00:53. > :01:07.Good morning, Britain - I forgot to say this. A shortened report on what

:01:08. > :01:13.we are seeing in Syria. But we started talking about this

:01:14. > :01:14.yesterday, it is to do a big talk. --2 day.

:01:15. > :01:17.The Chinese President has arrived in the US for a meeting

:01:18. > :01:19.with his counterpart President Donald Trump.

:01:20. > :01:23.Mr Trump is hosting the Xi Jinping at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

:01:24. > :01:26.Their two-day meeting is the first time they are talking in person.

:01:27. > :01:28.Mr Trump has earlier said the summit "will be

:01:29. > :01:36.Last year, he accused China of "raping the US".

:01:37. > :01:38.And during his election campaign, he said massive trade deficits

:01:39. > :01:43.and job losses could no longer be tolerated.

:01:44. > :01:50.So, can these two deal-makers avert a potential trade war?

:01:51. > :01:54.That is the big question. I have the person with the answer.

:01:55. > :01:56.With me is Linda Yueh, Professor of Economics

:01:57. > :02:06.Great to see you as always. Look, boy, how time flies, one minute he

:02:07. > :02:10.accuses China of raping America and the next he says they finally meet

:02:11. > :02:15.and it is the start of a great relationship. I think in many ways

:02:16. > :02:21.we should be relieved! Absolutely! Because I think there is a very real

:02:22. > :02:27.prospect that the United States will order to deter essentially Chinese

:02:28. > :02:30.imports but also they could accept more pressure on American companies

:02:31. > :02:34.to produce more at home, both of these things could be short of a

:02:35. > :02:37.trade war but actually quite damaging the US - China

:02:38. > :02:41.relationships because remember President Trump has just announced

:02:42. > :02:44.an executive order that in 90 days he will review all of the countries

:02:45. > :02:51.that have trade deficits with the United States in goods. Guess who is

:02:52. > :02:56.top of that? It's China. By far. I don't mean to be stupid but for the

:02:57. > :02:59.uninitiated, when we talk about trade deficit means the Americans

:03:00. > :03:05.buy more from China than China buys from America, right? Yes. Indeed. We

:03:06. > :03:10.know the generally speaking that is what the trump administration is

:03:11. > :03:14.trying to change. But how do you change that? Do you force China to

:03:15. > :03:19.buy? Are you put a gun to their head and tell them to buy their goods?

:03:20. > :03:24.You cannot, all you can do is use taxes and also we know, tariffs, but

:03:25. > :03:27.we know that President Trump exert a lot of pressure on American

:03:28. > :03:30.companies in terms of pulling back their supply chains, is one thing

:03:31. > :03:35.that is trade adviser has suggested and by the way it is damaging for

:03:36. > :03:38.American companies and also I think that's probably the extent to which

:03:39. > :03:43.they'll go. The Chinese currency has no longer ceased to become a big

:03:44. > :03:47.issue, it's no longer significantly undervalued, according to the IMF,

:03:48. > :03:53.so it won't make a big impact but what will use what companies choose

:03:54. > :03:57.to do in terms of where they buy because places like Walmart buy from

:03:58. > :04:04.China and sell in the United States. And couple who manufacture in Taiwan

:04:05. > :04:08.as an example. -- and couple. As China have begun, a bit of

:04:09. > :04:14.ammunition, in its back pocket, in the sense that and correct me if I'm

:04:15. > :04:18.wrong, China halt all that US debt. It holds a lot of US currency,

:04:19. > :04:22.basically, and they could influence what China does, it could influence

:04:23. > :04:26.the value of the US dollar? They could but I think they would use it

:04:27. > :04:32.very cautiously. What China probably has more open it to close all is to

:04:33. > :04:36.say we have a vast market and the best way to equalise trade between

:04:37. > :04:39.the two countries is that we are willing to liberalise more of our

:04:40. > :04:43.market if you can play fair and I think that is going to be the key

:04:44. > :04:46.language to watch. They will both say they want a level playing field

:04:47. > :04:49.but they define fairness differently and I think in this meeting we

:04:50. > :04:52.shouldn't expect any big pronouncement on its their first

:04:53. > :04:57.face-to-face meeting, they will get a sense of what each other means.

:04:58. > :05:00.The Chinese want to make is trump a businessman or the campaign on the

:05:01. > :05:04.trial and Trump wants to get a feeling for Xi Jinping, whether he

:05:05. > :05:07.can play fair in an American sense of levelling out the deficit and I

:05:08. > :05:13.suspect the Chinese will give them some carrots but probably also hold

:05:14. > :05:17.a few sticks. Keep a few sticks aside is always good. Short and

:05:18. > :05:17.sweet but we appreciate this. Thank you, Linda.

:05:18. > :05:20.Twitter is suing the US government after the Trump administration

:05:21. > :05:22.demanded the Twitter reveal the identity

:05:23. > :05:26.The user profile - the government was complaining

:05:27. > :05:31.about was an anonymous profile account criticising

:05:32. > :05:32.President Trump's immigration policy.

:05:33. > :05:41.Dave Lee sent us this from San Francisco.

:05:42. > :05:47.In January, when Donald Trump became President Trump, several so-called

:05:48. > :05:52.alternative accounts for US government services began appearing

:05:53. > :05:55.online. Most claim to be authored by current or former employees of those

:05:56. > :06:00.agencies and they offered us criticisms of their new boss. Now

:06:01. > :06:03.it's been revealed that US Customs and border protection filed

:06:04. > :06:07.documents demanding Twitter reveal the identity of at least one of the

:06:08. > :06:12.Twitter is speaking ill of President Trump. The SQL or the government is

:06:13. > :06:16.using is meant to be for finding out more information about the source of

:06:17. > :06:20.imported goods coming into the USA. And not for a masking online

:06:21. > :06:25.identities. Therefore, Twitter has asked a judge to refuse the request,

:06:26. > :06:29.calling it an issue of free speech. Their move has been strongly backed

:06:30. > :06:36.by groups who support strong online privacy. Twitter is protecting its

:06:37. > :06:39.users here, I think it, as a platform, really wants to be a place

:06:40. > :06:44.where people can speak freely. Yes, I think this is important for them

:06:45. > :06:47.to be doing and I think they are doing it a place of actually wanting

:06:48. > :06:52.to protect their uses and protects speech. President Trump famously

:06:53. > :06:56.loved using Twitter because he says the guess in the freedom to say what

:06:57. > :06:59.he wants without having to go by the mainstream media. With this lawsuit,

:07:00. > :07:03.Twitter is saying that freedom should apply to everybody on the

:07:04. > :07:11.network, even if they are anonymous, and even if they are criticising the

:07:12. > :07:15.commander-in-chief. Good on you, Dave. I will be back with James in a

:07:16. > :07:19.little bit to talk more about Syria.
