:00:31. > :00:32.Plus, AirB'n'Burglary - the home rental giant says it's
:00:33. > :00:34.tightening security after users advertised their homes,
:00:35. > :01:01.We have got that Friday feeling which means it is Good Friday which
:01:02. > :01:05.means you are probably not watching! You are probably in bed! If you are
:01:06. > :01:09.watching, I have an exciting snapshot for all of the news for
:01:10. > :01:11.you, will start in New York with annual auto show opened its doors
:01:12. > :01:13.the public. The car business had a bit
:01:14. > :01:16.of a bumpy ride during the financial crisis but today, it's bigger
:01:17. > :01:21.and more profitable than ever. According to the Swiss bank UBS,
:01:22. > :01:25.the global auto industry That's more than the entire
:01:26. > :01:37.economy of Italy or Brazil. And here's why - last year,
:01:38. > :01:40.more than 88 million new vehicles were sold around the world -
:01:41. > :01:43.an all-time record. But the industry is
:01:44. > :01:45.facing huge changes. Goldman Sachs predicts that by 2025
:01:46. > :01:49.a quarter of all of cars sold will have electric engines,
:01:50. > :01:57.compared to just 5% at the moment. Tesla has seen its stock
:01:58. > :01:59.market value overtake that of General Motors and
:02:00. > :02:08.Ford in recent weeks. That's despite the fact Tesla makes
:02:09. > :02:13.a fraction of the number of cars, But financial markets are sending
:02:14. > :02:25.a clear message about what they see From the New York Auto Show,
:02:26. > :02:39.Michelle Fleury reports. Here at the New York Auto Show there
:02:40. > :02:44.are plenty of the big kind of sports utility vehicles that Americans love
:02:45. > :02:47.so much right now. But the big US automakers have been criticised for
:02:48. > :02:52.falling behind when it comes to cutting-edge technology. Case in
:02:53. > :02:56.point, Tesla is now worth more than General Motors and Ford. I've come
:02:57. > :02:59.here to ask or the executives or does it take to succeed as a global
:03:00. > :03:18.carmaker today? Don't try to grow too fast, don't
:03:19. > :03:22.try to overstretch the market, don't have too much supply, hold on
:03:23. > :03:28.pricing power, get the mix right. If you put those things together you
:03:29. > :03:42.can have success in the market. And now of course comes the all-new
:03:43. > :03:46.navigator. It starts with a kind of a customer first approach of what
:03:47. > :03:50.they want and then how this technology deliver that, so it's
:03:51. > :03:54.really maintaining the focus of creating great products but also
:03:55. > :03:55.more and more as we go forward great services and experiences for
:03:56. > :04:11.customers. We are committed to seeing better
:04:12. > :04:16.fuel economy and lower emissions and this is not a new thing, this has
:04:17. > :04:23.been going for the last decade or so. All around the decade -- world,
:04:24. > :04:26.there is a push to drop emissions and fuel economy to go up until
:04:27. > :04:30.ultimately zero emissions and the technological steps towards it and
:04:31. > :04:38.also started building in overall volume. -- built in. One key to
:04:39. > :04:43.success is doing well in China, the world 's biggest car market. So next
:04:44. > :04:46.week, these automakers turned their attention to the Shanghai auto show.
:04:47. > :04:49.Krish Bhaskar is CEO and Founder of MIRU -
:04:50. > :04:58.the Motor Industry Research Unit in Nice France.
:04:59. > :05:06.Not a bad spot to work in! Think you for coming in at this horrible time
:05:07. > :05:10.of the morning! There has been some criticism, some of the US car
:05:11. > :05:15.makers, and maybe Volkswagen to some extent, that they have all been a
:05:16. > :05:21.bit slow in adopting and adapting to the changing technological world
:05:22. > :05:26.that we are in. That's absolutely right, they have, but on the other
:05:27. > :05:31.hand President Trump has come in and reversed everything, or is about to.
:05:32. > :05:36.2017 regulations are fluid at the moment. We don't know what they will
:05:37. > :05:41.be. And it's quite clear that what Obama thought would happen is going
:05:42. > :05:45.be reversed and may even be rolled back. Let's take that step further
:05:46. > :05:49.because I will explain, Krish and I were talking before we came on air
:05:50. > :05:53.and you think the whole electorate sort of push towards electric cars
:05:54. > :05:57.with now in could be pushed to the site? Not pushed to the side but
:05:58. > :06:02.delayed. Resident Trump won't be there for ever but it is happening
:06:03. > :06:07.in North America at the US particularly, is there is going to
:06:08. > :06:15.be a delay. Now at the moment Paola, muscle cars, huge SUV is, of the
:06:16. > :06:19.showstoppers, are huge engines with 800, 0- 100 miles an hour in less
:06:20. > :06:24.than five seconds, huge seven seater SUV 's. We used to call them the
:06:25. > :06:30.Yank tanks. They are making a comeback? Yes. What you think the
:06:31. > :06:35.showstopper will be this year? Lincoln navigator. It is
:06:36. > :06:40.outstanding. The lucida electric vehicle could have been really great
:06:41. > :06:45.pre- Trump but not post Trump and one of our own vehicles the
:06:46. > :06:52.airspace, Jaguar F pace, is the total winner of the air. It is
:06:53. > :06:56.great. You mentioned lucid, made in California, an electric car maker,
:06:57. > :07:00.but we always talk about Tesla, did it surprise you that Tesla did
:07:01. > :07:04.overtake a company that makes a fraction of the cars has never made
:07:05. > :07:07.a profit at one point it did overtake the value of General Motors
:07:08. > :07:13.and Ford? That's the investors speaking with their wallet, isn't
:07:14. > :07:19.it? That is doing something new. There's a new competitor by G M, the
:07:20. > :07:23.Chevrolet Alt and it looks good, it is cheaper, it works, its extender
:07:24. > :07:28.lead to a vehicle and it is excellent. I have been told I have
:07:29. > :07:33.to wrap it up. I want to ask you very briefly, diesel car sales, are
:07:34. > :07:37.they going to go down do you think? They may come back up depended on
:07:38. > :07:40.the regulations. Everyone at the moment is trying to see what is
:07:41. > :07:47.going to happen. Regulations have been passed, it diesel, the 2017 but
:07:48. > :07:49.a comeback. A great three, always a pleasure, thank you for joining us
:07:50. > :07:52.on this Friday will stop. It is is improving the security
:07:53. > :07:57.of its app and website after a BBC investigation found people's homes
:07:58. > :07:59.had been burgled by scammers The BBC spoke to three
:08:00. > :08:03.people who were robbed after they advertised
:08:04. > :08:18.their properties on So I walked the police into this
:08:19. > :08:22.room which you can see is full of stuff but it was like completely
:08:23. > :08:26.empty. Lack of people Christian Howard letter keys home on AirBnB
:08:27. > :08:29.while he was out of town as a convenient way to make some extra
:08:30. > :08:33.money. It done so for years without a problem but on his birthday his
:08:34. > :08:36.home was burgled. While I was enjoying the hotel and having
:08:37. > :08:41.breakfast and then returning back to the hotel room, just to enjoy the
:08:42. > :08:44.day and relax a little bit, I got a horrible text message saying that
:08:45. > :08:47.somebody is in the flat and it is not me because my account has been
:08:48. > :08:51.compromised. Obviously my birthday was over, said it was my first
:08:52. > :08:57.reaction. Christian body had let at his home a verified profile, or who
:08:58. > :09:00.had shown a B government identification and it had positive
:09:01. > :09:03.reviews from previous bookings that the account had been stolen, the
:09:04. > :09:07.attacker changed the name, photographs and contact details but
:09:08. > :09:12.kept AirBnB's verified badge. And Christian isn't alone. The BBC has
:09:13. > :09:16.spoken to two other people who were robbed this way and three others who
:09:17. > :09:20.have the recount stolen. And AirBnB's Facebook page has dozens of
:09:21. > :09:24.comments from people who have had their accounts compromised. There
:09:25. > :09:27.are many ways attackers could have been hijacking AirBnB accounts, they
:09:28. > :09:31.may have tricked people into handing over their passwords but there are
:09:32. > :09:36.ways AirBnB could have defended against this. Google, Facebook and
:09:37. > :09:40.Twitter is among others all offer to step of occasion. It requires you to
:09:41. > :09:43.enter the code sent to your phone as well is your password to get into
:09:44. > :09:45.your account. We put our security concerns to AirBnB, the company
:09:46. > :10:01.said: those changes include to step of
:10:02. > :10:04.occasion when somebody logs in for a new device, and text message alerts
:10:05. > :10:10.is somebody changes your profile information. But the Christian, the
:10:11. > :10:13.changes come too late. This is the whole experience has left him with a
:10:14. > :10:18.bad feeling and he may not use AirBnB again. Let me leave you with
:10:19. > :10:19.this- Credit Suisse chief executive
:10:20. > :10:22.Tidjane Thiam and the bank's board of directors have offered
