:00:08. > :00:17.Now it's time for World Business Report with Sally.

:00:18. > :00:21.Another Brazilian President on trial for corruption -

:00:22. > :00:24.we tell you what's at stake as Michel Temer faces removal

:00:25. > :00:31.Apple unveils its HomePod - so will this revolutionise your

:00:32. > :00:34.experience in the home or is this a poor attempt to catch up

:00:35. > :00:51.In a minute we'll cross over to our Asia business hub to hear

:00:52. > :00:56.about Toshiba's efforts to sell it's microchip business.

:00:57. > :01:02.It doesn't seem like all that long ago we were talking about Brazil's

:01:03. > :01:09.meteoric rise to economic stardom as one of the so called BRICS.

:01:10. > :01:12.But all that has come crashing down thanks to a string of corruption

:01:13. > :01:14.allegations involving top politicians and companies.

:01:15. > :01:18.And it could all come to a head again later today as Brazil's top

:01:19. > :01:21.electoral court resumes it's trial against the country's former

:01:22. > :01:26.president - Dilma Roussef - and her successor Michel Temer.

:01:27. > :01:30.This is how the economy has fared over the last five years.

:01:31. > :01:36.Since Rousseff was voted into office, there have been two

:01:37. > :01:39.years of recession - ending last week when growth of 1%

:01:40. > :01:46.was reported for the beginning of this year.

:01:47. > :01:48.She was impeached ten months ago and succeeded by Michel Temer

:01:49. > :01:52.who has focused on economic reforms but could now be out

:01:53. > :01:59.Government policy is important because non-financial companies

:02:00. > :02:02.owned by the state account for nearly 18% of the economy.

:02:03. > :02:04.The two biggest are Eletrobras and Petrobras.

:02:05. > :02:08.The latter is the state owned oil giant at the heart of the corruption

:02:09. > :02:18.allegations and was once the biggest company in Latin America.

:02:19. > :02:20.With me is Jimena Blanco, Head of Americas Politics Research

:02:21. > :02:35.Always good to see you. You are just back from Brazil. Just explain where

:02:36. > :02:42.Michel Temer sits in this corruption allegation story. If we take this

:02:43. > :02:54.back to 2014 Wenbo corruption case, -- when it is the first case came

:02:55. > :02:57.about. When Dilma Rousseff and Michel Temer used corruption money

:02:58. > :03:02.to finance their corruption campaign. It began right after the

:03:03. > :03:09.election in 2014 that it is only just now that the court will set to

:03:10. > :03:13.try those allegations. And what's going to happen? Chanters are,

:03:14. > :03:21.everybody is expecting the court to make a radical move -- chances are.

:03:22. > :03:27.It could be that the government and mayor is accused of corruption in

:03:28. > :03:35.low earth jurisdictions. There is an high probability that the court

:03:36. > :03:40.could scrap this. He is also facing other court cases and he is also

:03:41. > :03:47.facing 14 impeachment requests in Congress. And this is seemingly

:03:48. > :03:52.endemic. It is Dilma Rousseff, it is Michel Temer, it is the former

:03:53. > :04:03.president and other politicians and leaders. It would seem the judiciary

:04:04. > :04:10.in Brazil after a clean sweep. They took about this as the World

:04:11. > :04:18.Heritage case. They say this shows our democratic institutions are at

:04:19. > :04:21.work on that they are in pendant and they will continue investigating. --

:04:22. > :04:30.independent. Is out of office because of this, what will happen

:04:31. > :04:34.next? There is no direct election after the turn. They will be an

:04:35. > :04:39.indirect election and Congress will get to choose the interim president

:04:40. > :04:43.until 2018. In the meantime, the economy has just got its head above

:04:44. > :04:48.water in the first time in two years. Economic outlook? Think it is

:04:49. > :04:51.positive because the economy, at this stage, is starting to recover,

:04:52. > :04:58.regardless of what happens politically. Investors are now used

:04:59. > :05:03.to this rollercoaster. The right -- the markets have priced this in and

:05:04. > :05:08.will continue to operate regardless of what happens on the political

:05:09. > :05:16.side. I know we will talk again as this story unfolds.

:05:17. > :05:19.Let's talk about a company that we all know well.

:05:20. > :05:21.Apple has held its annual developers conference in Silicon Valley.

:05:22. > :05:23.The tech giant has announced a voice-activated loudspeaker

:05:24. > :05:25.powered by its virtual assistant Siri.

:05:26. > :05:28.Apple's "HomePod" speaker can respond to questions and control

:05:29. > :05:30.other devices such as lights and central heating.

:05:31. > :05:32.Our North America Technology correspondent Dave Lee

:05:33. > :05:51.This is Apple's a new HomePod. Then use part speaker that they are

:05:52. > :05:55.billing as a music device unlike Amazon's device. They say it has

:05:56. > :06:00.spatial awareness so it can fill the room with sale -- sound. I can't

:06:01. > :06:05.touch it or hear it so I can't you have good it is but it will come out

:06:06. > :06:09.later this year and will cost $349. First released in the US, the UK and

:06:10. > :06:14.Australia. Other countries coming in the New Year. One of the potential

:06:15. > :06:17.downside is that you need an Apple musics of scripture and in order to

:06:18. > :06:21.get the full integration so if you prefer to use spotted by Pandora,

:06:22. > :06:26.not the device review. Apple are pretty confident this will give them

:06:27. > :06:37.a good part of the market in this home space. It speaks to where Apple

:06:38. > :06:43.wants to position this device as a speaker first. It is about music. Is

:06:44. > :06:48.that the fact they are focusing on it being a music device, is it a

:06:49. > :06:52.cover-up for theory not being a very good system compared to a lecture

:06:53. > :06:57.and Google home? I take your point. Yes, there is criticism in terms of

:06:58. > :07:02.our series not as smart as are the things. It is a fair criticism. I

:07:03. > :07:08.think there is a different approach here. It is not driven by necessity

:07:09. > :07:17.but driven by their play in the home. What you think about the home

:07:18. > :07:20.pot? Do you have a virtual reality friend or home assistant? --

:07:21. > :07:24.HomePod. Get in touch on Twitter. Foxconn could receive some backing

:07:25. > :07:27.from Apple and Amazon in its bid for Toshiba's

:07:28. > :07:28.semi-conductor business. Japanese media quoted

:07:29. > :07:30.the chairman of Foxconn- Terry Gou-as saying that the two US

:07:31. > :07:34.tech giants are set to contribute Let's get more on this

:07:35. > :08:01.with Rico Hizon in Singapore. This is my assistance. This piece of

:08:02. > :08:05.paper is my assistance. Big hitters in the technology industry want a

:08:06. > :08:10.piece of this very profitable chip business of Toshiba. He mentioned

:08:11. > :08:16.Apple, Amazon, Taiwan's Foxconn. Western Digital, all very

:08:17. > :08:20.interested. There are reports that Foxconn may be the highest bidder

:08:21. > :08:28.because the pricetag is quite pricey. More than 20 billion US

:08:29. > :08:39.dollars. The talk is then -- they may offer a lot. There have been

:08:40. > :08:44.concerns expressed about Foxconn's bid. Apple and Amazon might join

:08:45. > :08:55.forces with Foxconn for a four this semi- conductor arm of the Japanese

:08:56. > :08:59.conglomerate. The Japanese is a bit to US giants plan to ship in the

:09:00. > :09:06.fund was a bit could be a triumphant effort that could buy the triumphant

:09:07. > :09:09.business of Toshiba. The Japanese industrial group is grappling with

:09:10. > :09:15.huge losses arising from its US nuclear business. The demand for

:09:16. > :09:18.flash memory chips used for long-time datastorage, smartphones

:09:19. > :09:23.and other devices is expected to increase on the back of a boom in

:09:24. > :09:26.data centres or technology companies, Amazon, Google and Apple,

:09:27. > :09:32.in the age of artificial intelligence and the Internet of

:09:33. > :09:36.things. That is what makes Toshiba's chip business indeed very attractive

:09:37. > :09:41.to the big hitters in the industry so we will have to wait and see if a

:09:42. > :09:43.deal will be done by the end of June.

:09:44. > :09:55.A note of caution for most of the main markets. We have had seven

:09:56. > :10:00.weeks in a row for markets having a good time so caution ahead of the

:10:01. > :10:02.Federal reserve meeting next week and a UK election. I will see you
