:00:27. > :00:30.Now the Japanese company has unveiled a major revamp,

:00:31. > :00:37.but will it be able to compete with Tesla?

:00:38. > :00:54.Also in the programme, we'll take a look at the recovery

:00:55. > :01:09.It has not seen a recession since 1991. The wonder from down under!

:01:10. > :01:12.In the last few hours, Nissan has released details

:01:13. > :01:15.The previous version was a global best-seller,

:01:16. > :01:19.but now the company is facing tough competition from Tesla which has

:01:20. > :01:21.already started making deliveries of its highly-anticipated Model 3.

:01:22. > :01:26.Let's cross over to Sharanjit Leyl in Singapore.

:01:27. > :01:42.Nice to see you. Tell us about the new Leaf. It made a debut in Tokyo.

:01:43. > :01:48.It is facing a lot of competition, not just from Tesla at from car

:01:49. > :01:58.makers like Volkswagen, BMW, and others. Leaf was the bestselling

:01:59. > :02:05.electric car. The launch shows a longer version of its previous model

:02:06. > :02:12.and it is fighting competition in the car Michael. 100 50 miles on a

:02:13. > :02:21.single charge - 40 miles more than its previous model. But all of this

:02:22. > :02:27.competition in the fast developing green car market is in part fuelled

:02:28. > :02:34.by tightening emission standards around the world. If you want to get

:02:35. > :02:41.a hold of one, from October it is on sale in Japan and made available

:02:42. > :02:45.early next year. A longer range with a 40 kilowatts battery. Analysts say

:02:46. > :02:50.it does not have massively groundbreaking technology but the

:02:51. > :02:57.right new features that may be attractive to driving. Single pedal

:02:58. > :03:08.driving, at the instance. It starts at just under 30,000 US dollars. We

:03:09. > :03:15.know they are having to deal with these rivals. The B, the

:03:16. > :03:20.Volkswagen and that is because electric vehicle technology is

:03:21. > :03:27.starting to advance really rapidly. The range is increasing and we are

:03:28. > :03:35.seeing proliferation of these types of cars. There you have it, the new

:03:36. > :03:38.Leaf has been unveiled. EU authorities are investigating

:03:39. > :03:41.claims the Italian mafia has been driving out farmers

:03:42. > :03:43.from subsidised land. It says organised crime has

:03:44. > :03:45.been pocketing funds - and now some 500 million euros worth

:03:46. > :03:48.of payments are under investigation. In Sicily, there've long been claims

:03:49. > :03:51.the mafia is preying But locals are also fighting back

:03:52. > :04:10.as Manuela Saragosa reports Land and property under attack.

:04:11. > :04:17.Fighting Cicely's role of fear is a risky business. Last year, the

:04:18. > :04:21.market tried to kill this man and now lives under permanent armed

:04:22. > :04:26.guard after he tried to stop the mafia from illegally claiming public

:04:27. > :04:33.land is arraigned in order to get EU funds. TRANSLATION: A new law now

:04:34. > :04:41.ensures anyone applying for farm has to have anti-mafia qualifications.

:04:42. > :04:47.We have taken a toy away from them. We will not let them play with it

:04:48. > :04:53.any more. We have broken it. But it is not just public land that has

:04:54. > :04:59.been targeted by the mafia. We are in the shadow of Mount at, just over

:05:00. > :05:10.there. These six had this belonged to a man. I came to meeting to find

:05:11. > :05:18.out what happened when he refused to hand over land. His house was burnt

:05:19. > :05:23.down. TRANSLATION: The message was clear, they wanted me off my land

:05:24. > :05:30.and I am sorry to say people giving. Sometimes it is what the authorities

:05:31. > :05:40.say. Rural mafia, a protected species, says his T-shirt. Some take

:05:41. > :05:44.matters into their hands. This man says he has spent the past few years

:05:45. > :05:52.stopping mafia but oops from trespassing and damaging his vines

:05:53. > :05:56.-- mafia groups. We were under physical and psychological attack

:05:57. > :06:04.stop they said they make the ball around here and threaten to kill us.

:06:05. > :06:08.They also beat us up. States like these are common sight in the

:06:09. > :06:15.Sicilian countryside. Many say they mark the land the mafia wants to

:06:16. > :06:17.claim. A sign also that the market continues to cast its dark shadow

:06:18. > :06:20.over the island. There's been some good news

:06:21. > :06:22.for Australia which recorded a strong pick-up in growth

:06:23. > :06:25.in the last three months. More than 26 years have now passed

:06:26. > :06:28.since Australia last The economy expanded by 0.8%

:06:29. > :06:36.in the second quarter- this is slightly less than experts

:06:37. > :06:44.had been predicting. But it's still a much

:06:45. > :06:46.stronger number compared to the first quarter,

:06:47. > :06:49.where the economy only grew by 0.3%. Australia has been suffering

:06:50. > :06:52.from the global slump in commodity prices but stronger than expected

:06:53. > :06:54.demand for iron ore helped contribute to a 2.7% increase

:06:55. > :07:01.in exports over the period. With me is Jeremy Cook,

:07:02. > :07:14.Chief Economist at World First. It would seem things are going it

:07:15. > :07:23.better in Australia? No one actually out there is putting out energy, US

:07:24. > :07:32.GDP, UK, Europe, even the euro is not at that percentage. This show

:07:33. > :07:39.grew by .6%. That is an OK number. Is it because the prices of

:07:40. > :07:45.commodities, the stuff Australia gets out of its ground has gone up

:07:46. > :07:50.and China has not seen a massive slow up. Some of the demand from

:07:51. > :07:56.China is starting to slow. He has in the pickup in value of Australian

:07:57. > :08:02.commodity exports slow a little bit. That is a global movement. The

:08:03. > :08:10.average Australian consumer came back into the shops. And they are

:08:11. > :08:20.cutting down on their saving on a month by month way. That could be a

:08:21. > :08:25.problem. They have done a lot of spelling on housing as well. A lot

:08:26. > :08:30.of ill thing in Australia for the past 10- 15 years. The housing

:08:31. > :08:37.market is just starting to roll over a little bit and that will

:08:38. > :08:41.naturally... If you own a house you would like to keep a little bit more

:08:42. > :08:50.back in case there is a recession or a downturn. - bring the GDP lower in

:08:51. > :08:53.the second half of the year. The infrastructure spending has helped

:08:54. > :09:00.but it is by no means the main driver. Thank you very much indeed.

:09:01. > :09:06.Let's have a look at some other news in terms of market and how they are

:09:07. > :09:13.faring in Asia... The Australian market not celebrating the fact stop

:09:14. > :09:22.down by a third of a percent. Those are the European markets, actually.

:09:23. > :09:33.Hong Kong down. Japan also down. The yen is getting stronger and stronger

:09:34. > :09:39.and of course nerves with what is happening with North Korea on the

:09:40. > :09:46.minds of investors.. It never works well for Asia. A Labour Day on

:09:47. > :09:59.Monday so it was the first day of trading. I will see you soon.

:10:00. > :10:06.Just half of dentists in England are accepting new NHS patients,

:10:07. > :10:11.The British Dental Association said the figure was a disgrace
