0:00:21 > 0:00:23Good boy.

0:00:23 > 0:00:24OK, up, up.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27We've scoured the country and found eight people who all

0:00:27 > 0:00:32believe they have the ultimate relationship with their canine companions.

0:00:32 > 0:00:36We'd love to win it, to prove to the world how good Douglas is.

0:00:36 > 0:00:40We understand each other. We've been a team since he was seven weeks old,

0:00:40 > 0:00:41and he's now nine.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44Flapjack's beauty and my brains, we should make quite a winning combination.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47This way! This way! This way! Flapjack!

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Over the course of the contest,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52guided by some of the country's top dog trainers...

0:00:52 > 0:00:54That is incredible!

0:00:54 > 0:00:56..and canine scientists...

0:00:56 > 0:00:59What it tells us is that Betty is ambidextrous.

0:00:59 > 0:01:04- Same as me!- ..we'll see them unlock the full potential of their partnership.

0:01:04 > 0:01:05You're ace, you are.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08Go! 'They'll compete in a series of challenges.'

0:01:08 > 0:01:10Let's go, Douglas, go, Doug.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14- And the best duos will win a place in our grand final...- Whoops!

0:01:15 > 0:01:18..where one pair will be crowned ultimate champions.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20Argh!

0:01:22 > 0:01:26If you think you know what your dogs are capable of, think again.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41Go! 'So far in the contest...'

0:01:41 > 0:01:43THEY CHEER

0:01:43 > 0:01:46'..our pairs have taken on a series of challenges...'

0:01:46 > 0:01:49- Good girl!- '..that have put their partnerships to the test.'

0:01:49 > 0:01:50Sausages!

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Keep going, Doug, keep going, bud.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56You respond to his body language and he completely trusted your every command.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00Split into two groups, the Reds and the Yellows,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03last time they faced challenges designed to test their ability

0:02:03 > 0:02:06to see the world from their dog's point of view.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Oh, you found it, good girl!

0:02:08 > 0:02:12The Yellows had to follow their dogs' noses in canine orienteering,

0:02:12 > 0:02:15where Badger and Bodger came out top dogs.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18I'm absolutely amazed that we won, but I'm super chuffed that we did.

0:02:18 > 0:02:23The Reds had to harness their dogs' ability to learn by looking.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25And lead them round an obstacle course,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28where the growing bond between Colin and Mitch triumphed.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30- Good boy!- Well done.

0:02:30 > 0:02:31That was beautiful!

0:02:31 > 0:02:35'Then, in the ultimate test of their immersion in their dogs' world...'

0:02:35 > 0:02:38I want to see you side-by-side, sharing the experience.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41Go! '..our duos faced an open-water swim.'

0:02:41 > 0:02:42Come on, Josh!

0:02:42 > 0:02:44Josh and Douglas came unstuck.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46- They're all tangled up!- Good lad.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48And Mitch retreated to dry land,

0:02:48 > 0:02:52leaving Colin concerned that all of their hard work had come undone.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56I felt as though I almost betrayed him.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58Oh! Am I allowed to hug you?

0:03:10 > 0:03:13We're near the end of the contest,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16and our grand triathlon final is fast approaching.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19We're so chuffed to be doing the triathlon.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22We'd love to win. We'll try our very best.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25I think Bodger and Badger are going to be amazing in it,

0:03:25 > 0:03:29so they'll take some beating, but I'm really, really looking forward to it.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30Good boy!

0:03:30 > 0:03:33I'm still competitive, so I've still got my eyes set on whether we can

0:03:33 > 0:03:36compete in the final.

0:03:36 > 0:03:40After the last set of challenges, the winners in the Yellow team

0:03:40 > 0:03:42were Bodger and Badger and Josh and Doug.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45And they've gone forward to the final.

0:03:45 > 0:03:48Ellie and Benny and Daisy and Zuri are out of the running,

0:03:48 > 0:03:51but they've stayed on to support their team-mates.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55But for the rest of the Reds, with three pairs still in contention,

0:03:55 > 0:03:56it's all to play for.

0:03:57 > 0:04:02Toni and Flapjack and Andrew and Betty share the lead with 17 points each,

0:04:02 > 0:04:05and Colin and Mitch are right behind them with 15.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11Now just one challenge stands between these three pairs

0:04:11 > 0:04:15and the remaining places in the final.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18So far, we've investigated just how strong the bond is

0:04:18 > 0:04:21between our humans and their dogs.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23We've also seen how well they communicate,

0:04:23 > 0:04:27but now it's a question of exploring their intelligence.

0:04:30 > 0:04:35Whether we think our dogs are secretly bright or adorably dim,

0:04:35 > 0:04:38it affects what we expect of them.

0:04:38 > 0:04:40So just how smart are they?

0:04:41 > 0:04:45Welcome, everyone, to the final challenge before we move on to our

0:04:45 > 0:04:48grand canine triathlon final.

0:04:48 > 0:04:53As we know, Josh and Douglas, Badger and Bodger have already gone through.

0:04:53 > 0:04:54So congratulations to you.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57But the Red team, it's all to play for.

0:04:57 > 0:05:01We have probably saved the most difficult challenge till last,

0:05:01 > 0:05:05to try and separate our fine competitors in the Red team.

0:05:05 > 0:05:11Because this one is all about your dog's memory and its ability for

0:05:11 > 0:05:12abstract thought.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14It's going to be tough.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16HE LAUGHS

0:05:16 > 0:05:18No!

0:05:18 > 0:05:24In this canine intelligence test, four toys will be lined up on the jetty.

0:05:24 > 0:05:28The owners will retrieve a photograph of one of the toys from the bottom

0:05:28 > 0:05:30of the lake, and present it to their dog,

0:05:30 > 0:05:36who will then need to pick up or indicate the toy that it represents.

0:05:36 > 0:05:40They will get a point for every toy they get right.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45First, a chance to practise.

0:05:45 > 0:05:49All right, guys, so what we're doing today is starting the process

0:05:49 > 0:05:51of teaching a dog a visual discrimination task.

0:05:51 > 0:05:52Oh, Mitch!

0:05:52 > 0:05:55- Have a play with him, see which ones he likes.- Mitch.

0:05:55 > 0:06:00First, the dogs are given a selection of toys so the owners can note the four

0:06:00 > 0:06:02they show the most interest in.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05Ultimately, what we're aiming for is for dogs to make a simple

0:06:05 > 0:06:09association between a card with an object on it

0:06:09 > 0:06:12- and the actual object itself. - Thank you.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16Then they show them the pictures together with the matching toy.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19Dogs learn through simple repetition.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22It's got to be very meticulous - present the card,

0:06:22 > 0:06:25and a second later, straightaway, present the toy, OK?

0:06:25 > 0:06:27Jack, I need you to concentrate.

0:06:27 > 0:06:31The dogs don't have an abstract concept of snake or ball.

0:06:31 > 0:06:35But by rewarding them or praising them when they respond correctly,

0:06:35 > 0:06:39they can learn associations between two-dimensional pictures and

0:06:39 > 0:06:40three-dimensional objects.

0:06:40 > 0:06:43That's it, and play it again. Give them lots of praise.

0:06:43 > 0:06:46- Good boy!- So, the more higher intonation you use,

0:06:46 > 0:06:49I appreciate that it's easier for the ladies.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51- Sort of, "Ahh!"- Yeah, jazz it up.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53Really good. Make it really nice and interesting.

0:06:53 > 0:06:55SHE LAUGHS

0:06:55 > 0:06:59All dogs have the ability to master what's called associative learning,

0:06:59 > 0:07:01and it's something that any owner can try at home.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04Using the same repetitive training technique,

0:07:04 > 0:07:09dogs also have the ability to learn to associate words with objects.

0:07:09 > 0:07:16Some experts estimate the average pet has the potential to master up to 165 words,

0:07:16 > 0:07:19but some breeds appear to have a greater aptitude for this than others.

0:07:21 > 0:07:22In one study,

0:07:22 > 0:07:24a Border collie called Chaser

0:07:24 > 0:07:28demonstrated recognition of over 1,000 different words.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30Another, called Rico,

0:07:30 > 0:07:33could hear a brand-new word and work out the object

0:07:33 > 0:07:37it referred to by eliminating the ones it already knew.

0:07:37 > 0:07:38Called fast mapping,

0:07:38 > 0:07:43humans develop this ability at around three years old.

0:07:43 > 0:07:44Are you ready, Mitch?

0:07:44 > 0:07:47Our dogs must get to grips with just four pictures

0:07:47 > 0:07:49and just four toys.

0:07:49 > 0:07:50But it's a tall order.

0:07:50 > 0:07:51Good lad!

0:07:53 > 0:07:55No, you don't want any toys, Betty.

0:07:55 > 0:07:58Betty is showing a natural enthusiasm for this exercise.

0:07:58 > 0:07:59As is Andrew.

0:07:59 > 0:08:01What toy do you want, Betty?

0:08:01 > 0:08:04I've been writing down which toys she's most interested in

0:08:04 > 0:08:07and which ones she's least interested in, just to try and...

0:08:07 > 0:08:11I come from quite a scientific background so I like to analyse things.

0:08:11 > 0:08:12Present card.

0:08:12 > 0:08:14Good boy, good boy!

0:08:14 > 0:08:17But Toni's hopes for Flapjack aren't as high.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20This is failing, Alan, this is failing massively.

0:08:20 > 0:08:22I'm not looking...

0:08:22 > 0:08:26For Flapjack, this is the equivalent of trying to climb Everest in five minutes.

0:08:26 > 0:08:30I mean, it's preposterous, it's a completely impossible task.

0:08:30 > 0:08:31Flapjack, for God's sake, no, stop it!

0:08:31 > 0:08:34Given that he's never done anything like this before,

0:08:34 > 0:08:36and he just doesn't understand it.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39And I feel really bad for him because he stands there and he wants to get it right,

0:08:39 > 0:08:42and you can see him going from one object to the other thinking,

0:08:42 > 0:08:44"I don't know what to do."

0:08:44 > 0:08:45Oh, Mitch!

0:08:45 > 0:08:48Currently two points behind the other remaining Red pairs,

0:08:48 > 0:08:51anything less than a win in this task

0:08:51 > 0:08:54and Colin and Mitch won't make the final.

0:08:54 > 0:08:57But working dog Mitch is struggling.

0:08:57 > 0:09:01'It's difficult for Mitch because he's never had any toys at home.'

0:09:01 > 0:09:03Just very alien to him.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05What's that?

0:09:05 > 0:09:08'So toy recognition is not going to be his strong point.'

0:09:08 > 0:09:10Good boy, good boy.

0:09:10 > 0:09:12'Throughout the contest,

0:09:12 > 0:09:15'Mitch's years of obedience-based training as a working dog

0:09:15 > 0:09:18'has made it hard for him to learn new skills.'

0:09:18 > 0:09:20I'm afraid we'd have to take you out.

0:09:20 > 0:09:21Of course I'm disappointed.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24'But as their bond has grown, Mitch has surprised everyone.'

0:09:24 > 0:09:27Yes! 'Especially Colin.'

0:09:27 > 0:09:28I can't believe that!

0:09:28 > 0:09:32He's absolutely startled me in how he's come on

0:09:32 > 0:09:35and how he's had this hidden depth

0:09:35 > 0:09:37that I hadn't realised was kind of there, really.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41I would like to be in the final but it's really difficult,

0:09:41 > 0:09:43it's really difficult at the moment.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45But I've worked hard with him.

0:09:45 > 0:09:48We'll just have to see what happens and see whether it clicks with

0:09:48 > 0:09:50him or not.

0:09:50 > 0:09:51Good boy.

0:09:53 > 0:09:56Practice over, and it's time for the challenge.

0:09:56 > 0:10:00And the last chance to secure a place in our grand final.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02Flapjack. Good boy.

0:10:02 > 0:10:05The four toys are lined up in front of the dogs.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08To minimise other clues - like body language - the owners might give them,

0:10:08 > 0:10:10they will be in the water.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13They'll retrieve a picture and present it,

0:10:13 > 0:10:17and then it's all down to the dog to select the right toy.

0:10:17 > 0:10:22OK, Red team, this challenge is all about your dog's thought processes.

0:10:22 > 0:10:28We're asking the dog to connect a photograph of an object with the object itself.

0:10:28 > 0:10:30Something which is pretty tough.

0:10:30 > 0:10:34Colin, in order to qualify for the canine triathlon final,

0:10:34 > 0:10:36you need to win this event.

0:10:36 > 0:10:37SHE LAUGHS

0:10:37 > 0:10:40Mitch, buck up!

0:10:40 > 0:10:44Try and point out to Mitch the gravity of the situation which is about to unfold.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46He's in the zone, aren't you, Mitch?

0:10:46 > 0:10:50He's a coiled spring, he's like a 100-metre runner before their event.

0:10:50 > 0:10:52He's a coiled sponge, more like.

0:10:52 > 0:10:54SHE LAUGHS

0:10:54 > 0:10:57OK, Andrew and Betty are up first for this one, so get yourselves ready.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59- Oh, here, goggles.- Thanks.

0:10:59 > 0:11:03'Currently joint leaders with Toni and Flapjack on 17 points,

0:11:03 > 0:11:05'over the course of the contest,

0:11:05 > 0:11:08'Andrew and Betty have proved fierce competitors.'

0:11:10 > 0:11:12They've thrived on the physical challenges.

0:11:12 > 0:11:14Good girl.

0:11:14 > 0:11:18- Betty, no, no.- But Andrew's learned that he needs to tune into Betty

0:11:18 > 0:11:21emotionally to get the best out of their bond.

0:11:21 > 0:11:24From where we've gone through these experiences together,

0:11:24 > 0:11:26I think we just are a closer team.

0:11:26 > 0:11:30I didn't think we could be. We understand each other a lot better.

0:11:30 > 0:11:36Now, just one more test stands between the pair and a place in the final.

0:11:36 > 0:11:40'They'll get one point for each correctly identified toy.'

0:11:40 > 0:11:43- Andrew, are you ready?- Yep.- Go.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56- He's got one of the photos.- He's got one, it's the one he wanted.

0:11:59 > 0:12:00Betty!

0:12:02 > 0:12:03Betty!

0:12:03 > 0:12:06- Good girl!- 'One point for Andrew and Betty.'

0:12:07 > 0:12:10- Straight away!- It was the snake, it was definitely the snake toy.

0:12:10 > 0:12:15- Good girl!- So she gets a little game with the toy as a reward for getting

0:12:15 > 0:12:16the right one.

0:12:16 > 0:12:21'The challenge for Andrew is to maintain Betty's focus on the task.

0:12:21 > 0:12:24'Difficult when he's underwater and out of sight.'

0:12:28 > 0:12:29Betty!

0:12:32 > 0:12:35- Oh!- No, she's failed that one.

0:12:35 > 0:12:37- She went to the camper van. - She's failed that one.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40So you take the card and the crocodile out...

0:12:40 > 0:12:42'One out of two, so far.'

0:12:42 > 0:12:45- It's very tense.- It's very tense.

0:12:47 > 0:12:49What's this, Betty? Go on, then. Betty.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51Good girl.

0:12:51 > 0:12:52- Yay!- Good girl!

0:12:55 > 0:12:59Just because there's one toy left, doesn't mean she's going to go to it.

0:13:01 > 0:13:03Betty. Come on, Betty.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05Come on! Good girl!

0:13:05 > 0:13:06BOTH: Aw!

0:13:06 > 0:13:08'That's a tough call.

0:13:08 > 0:13:12'Was she just going towards Andrew or indicating towards the toy?'

0:13:12 > 0:13:14- No!- She went past that.

0:13:14 > 0:13:17- She went past that.- She went past it and he shoved it in her mouth. - He did.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19What do we think?

0:13:19 > 0:13:22'This calls for an action replay.'

0:13:22 > 0:13:23She did.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25She did look at it on the way past.

0:13:25 > 0:13:28Let's see it again, let's see it one more time.

0:13:28 > 0:13:31She went down with her nose, didn't she?

0:13:31 > 0:13:35- What do you think, then?- I think she should get it.- Got to give it to her? OK.

0:13:35 > 0:13:40'Andrew and Betty get three points, taking them to a total of 20.'

0:13:40 > 0:13:42Little superstar.

0:13:42 > 0:13:44Actually did one for your brain.

0:13:44 > 0:13:47She says, "Cos I's clever, Dad, I's very clever."

0:13:47 > 0:13:48Nice and wet.

0:13:50 > 0:13:54'Next to duck for their dog is Toni.'

0:13:54 > 0:13:56- Toys are in position, Toni, are you ready?- I'm ready.

0:13:56 > 0:13:58- Excellent.- Tell me when.- Off you go.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02'Having struggled in the training,

0:14:02 > 0:14:05'will Flapjack understand what Toni wants him to do?'

0:14:05 > 0:14:08- He's got one.- Flapjack, Flapjack.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12Go find. Oh!

0:14:12 > 0:14:14- He went for the tennis ball.- He did go for the tennis ball.

0:14:14 > 0:14:16That was a poor start.

0:14:16 > 0:14:18FLAPJACK WHINES

0:14:18 > 0:14:19Shh, shh, shh!

0:14:20 > 0:14:23Flapjack?

0:14:23 > 0:14:24Good boy. Good boy.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27Tennis ball, and he went for the tennis ball.

0:14:27 > 0:14:28'That's one out of two.'

0:14:34 > 0:14:37Flapjack, Flapjack, Flapjack?

0:14:41 > 0:14:43Flappy, Flappy...

0:14:45 > 0:14:48'Flapjack is eager but still uncertain.'

0:14:49 > 0:14:52- Underwhelming.- You can re-present.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55You can ask him again, he hasn't made a choice yet.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58Oh, OK. Sorry, I was hasty, how unfair.

0:14:58 > 0:14:59He hadn't made a choice, so...

0:14:59 > 0:15:01Flapjack, make a choice.

0:15:01 > 0:15:03Make a choice.

0:15:03 > 0:15:04Come on, Flappy.

0:15:04 > 0:15:06Come on, Flaps!

0:15:06 > 0:15:08Make a choice.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11No, OK, he's moved away.

0:15:11 > 0:15:13- That's fine.- OK.

0:15:13 > 0:15:17'Flapjack has one more chance to score a point.'

0:15:17 > 0:15:18Flapjack!

0:15:19 > 0:15:21- Good boy.- Yeah!

0:15:21 > 0:15:25- Good boy, Flappers. - OK, so he got two.

0:15:25 > 0:15:27We always knew that was going to be difficult.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30- I think you should be very pleased with two out of four.- He just wasn't going to

0:15:30 > 0:15:32make the pig, was he? That was pretty good,

0:15:32 > 0:15:34given the training you've had.

0:15:34 > 0:15:38- Two out of four.- Yes. Two out of four, let's see what our Colin can do.- Yes indeed.

0:15:38 > 0:15:42'Two points to Toni and Flapjack puts them on a total of 19.

0:15:42 > 0:15:43'Currently on 15,

0:15:43 > 0:15:48'Colin and Mitch will need to get all four toys right to tie for second place,

0:15:48 > 0:15:52'which would put all three pairs through to the final.'

0:15:52 > 0:15:53- Colin, are you ready?- I'm ready.

0:15:53 > 0:15:55OK.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57Toys are in place. Go!

0:16:05 > 0:16:07- He's got something. - He's got a card, has he?

0:16:07 > 0:16:09Shh!

0:16:09 > 0:16:12Good lad. Mitch. Mitch.

0:16:15 > 0:16:16Good.

0:16:16 > 0:16:18Yes!

0:16:18 > 0:16:23'Mitch is off to a flying start but he'll need to stay focused on Colin.'

0:16:23 > 0:16:24Now, Colin was really good.

0:16:24 > 0:16:26He made sure that Mitch was focused,

0:16:26 > 0:16:30that he was looking at him before he presented the photo.

0:16:30 > 0:16:32He's got to do the same thing again.

0:16:32 > 0:16:33Mitch.

0:16:33 > 0:16:36Good lad, good lad.

0:16:41 > 0:16:42Mitch.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45- HE WHISTLES - Mitch.- OK, so he's trying to get him focused again.

0:16:45 > 0:16:47But Mitch doesn't want to know now.

0:16:47 > 0:16:50- He's turned away.- Mitch!

0:16:50 > 0:16:52'Colin needs to get Mitch's interest back.'

0:16:52 > 0:16:55Mitch! Mitch!

0:16:56 > 0:16:59Good lad, Mitch.

0:16:59 > 0:17:01- Yes! - Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04Come on, Mitch, come on!

0:17:04 > 0:17:06'That's two out of two.

0:17:06 > 0:17:09'But in order to score enough points to draw level with Toni,

0:17:09 > 0:17:14'and get through to the final, they need to get all four right.'

0:17:16 > 0:17:18Come on, Mitch.

0:17:25 > 0:17:27Good boy! Good boy!

0:17:29 > 0:17:31I'm so pleased!

0:17:31 > 0:17:34OK, one more to go. One more to go.

0:17:34 > 0:17:37Good boy! Good boy.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39Who's a good boy?

0:17:39 > 0:17:42CHEERING

0:17:42 > 0:17:44Who's a good boy?

0:17:44 > 0:17:46LAUGHTER

0:17:50 > 0:17:52CHEERING

0:17:56 > 0:17:57Colin.

0:17:59 > 0:18:01Unbelievable.

0:18:01 > 0:18:02Absolutely unbelievable.

0:18:04 > 0:18:06That was so exciting.

0:18:06 > 0:18:09It was so sweet seeing Mitch get all the toys.

0:18:09 > 0:18:13All of them looked at the card and went, "OK, yeah,

0:18:13 > 0:18:16"I know what I've got to do now," and that's blown me away.

0:18:16 > 0:18:19OK, guys, time to put the scores on the board.

0:18:19 > 0:18:22'With three correctly identified toys and three points,

0:18:22 > 0:18:26'Andrew and Betty top the Reds with 20 points.

0:18:26 > 0:18:30'Two out of four brings Toni and Flapjack up to 19.'

0:18:30 > 0:18:32Colin, you're on 15 points.

0:18:32 > 0:18:37You've got four points for this for winning it, which puts you on 19 points.

0:18:37 > 0:18:41Which means that you are joint second with Toni and you can

0:18:41 > 0:18:44go through to our canine triathlon final.

0:18:44 > 0:18:46- Yes!- Yes indeed.

0:18:46 > 0:18:47Well done, well done.

0:18:47 > 0:18:51Mitch was the underdog, there's no question about that, that was the case,

0:18:51 > 0:18:56- Sian, wasn't it?- Mitch came here with no interest in toys and a very

0:18:56 > 0:18:58different relationship with Colin.

0:18:58 > 0:19:01And to see him in that challenge,

0:19:01 > 0:19:03having a desire to interact with the toys,

0:19:03 > 0:19:07and that desire to work with Colin in a way that is totally different from

0:19:07 > 0:19:09the way that they started,

0:19:09 > 0:19:11this, for me, is one I'm never going to forget.

0:19:11 > 0:19:13Indeed. So we've got a great final coming up.

0:19:13 > 0:19:17Obviously we've got Badger and Bodger going in that as well,

0:19:17 > 0:19:22and Josh and Douglas, but the five of you will be out on the course in that final,

0:19:22 > 0:19:24to see who wins this championship.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26What a day it will be.

0:19:28 > 0:19:35It was just an amazing feeling of a unity between me and Mitch.

0:19:35 > 0:19:37And I'm just bubbling inside.

0:19:37 > 0:19:41I am absolutely so, so pleased to be in the final.

0:19:42 > 0:19:44With Mitch, you knew it was deliberate.

0:19:44 > 0:19:46I think that's what made it so exciting.

0:19:46 > 0:19:48We got two out of four.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50It was as good as I could possibly have expected.

0:19:50 > 0:19:54But I did look at Flapjack's performances and think,

0:19:54 > 0:19:56was that deliberate or was that fluke?

0:20:01 > 0:20:04Come on then, food time!

0:20:04 > 0:20:07Are you starving, my friend, are you starving?

0:20:07 > 0:20:10Toni and Flapjack have secured their place in the final.

0:20:13 > 0:20:16Over the course of the contest, despite disappointments...

0:20:16 > 0:20:19Oh, Jacky, we're last.

0:20:19 > 0:20:23..Toni's been surprised when Flapjack's learned new skills.

0:20:23 > 0:20:25And it's strengthened their bond.

0:20:26 > 0:20:29I think that Flapjack is really quite tuned in to me,

0:20:29 > 0:20:34much more so than I thought he was before I started doing all this.

0:20:34 > 0:20:38But Toni's never attributed much intelligence to her dog.

0:20:38 > 0:20:42'Flapjack is incredibly handsome but fairly thick.'

0:20:42 > 0:20:46And it may be that he's not that thick underneath, it may be that I'm really doing him down.

0:20:46 > 0:20:50But, you see, if you look through there, you can sort of see carpet at the other end.

0:20:50 > 0:20:52There's not much going in-between this ear and that.

0:20:54 > 0:20:57Now Dr Emily Blackwell is going to show her

0:20:57 > 0:21:01he has more between his ears than she gives him credit for.

0:21:01 > 0:21:05She spent 20 minutes teaching Flapjack a new task.

0:21:05 > 0:21:09Emily and I are going to prove to you now, scientifically,

0:21:09 > 0:21:12that Flapjack is not thick.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14- OK.- Isn't that right, Emily?

0:21:14 > 0:21:16Yes, what we've taught him is a bit of self-control.

0:21:16 > 0:21:21So what we started with was teaching him that if he ignored a little treat

0:21:21 > 0:21:23here in my hand, and took his head away from it,

0:21:23 > 0:21:25we'd give him a bigger treat.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30- So he looks at it and then looks back at me.- Yes.

0:21:30 > 0:21:33'For all dogs, food is a strong motivator.

0:21:33 > 0:21:40'So asking him not to eat will take some willpower and intelligence.'

0:21:40 > 0:21:41Yeah, that's amazing.

0:21:41 > 0:21:45'Emily trained him to do this using a positive reinforcement technique,

0:21:45 > 0:21:49'rewarding good behaviour rather than punishing bad.'

0:21:49 > 0:21:50Good boy.

0:21:50 > 0:21:54'It's an effective way for an owner to train or retrain their dog.'

0:21:54 > 0:21:55- Hello, my boy.- Good boy.

0:21:55 > 0:22:00'Flapjack learned that the only way to get the reward was to ignore one offer of food

0:22:00 > 0:22:02'and turn his head away from it.'

0:22:02 > 0:22:05See, he's not even putting his head towards it.

0:22:05 > 0:22:11'Some Labradors have been found to carry a mutant gene that makes them feel constantly hungry.

0:22:11 > 0:22:15'So Flapjack might be resisting a particularly strong impulse to eat.'

0:22:15 > 0:22:20In order to do that, he's got to demonstrate some intelligence.

0:22:20 > 0:22:24Literally, we gave him the hand and he learned to take his head away like that

0:22:24 > 0:22:27within two goes, which is incredibly fast.

0:22:27 > 0:22:30And we do this a lot with puppies and adult dogs,

0:22:30 > 0:22:34and normally it takes several sessions, and at least ten trials,

0:22:34 > 0:22:35whereas he's done it in two.

0:22:35 > 0:22:37So he's really, really quick.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41'Flapjack's demonstrated self-control with small treats,

0:22:41 > 0:22:43'but can he stick to what he's learned

0:22:43 > 0:22:45'when faced with a greater temptation?'

0:22:45 > 0:22:48We've gradually built up to the point that we can have...

0:22:48 > 0:22:51- A gigantic slab of cheese! - ..a huge piece of cheese in the middle of the room,

0:22:51 > 0:22:54so none of us could possibly get to it before he could,

0:22:54 > 0:22:56so if he wanted to have it, he could.

0:22:56 > 0:22:57Just watch Flapjack.

0:23:02 > 0:23:06OK, don't watch him. So that we let him think we haven't noticed the cheese.

0:23:06 > 0:23:10What would happen at home if you put a huge chunk of cheese at

0:23:10 > 0:23:11that level in the house?

0:23:11 > 0:23:13It would have gone now.

0:23:14 > 0:23:16I'm impressed.

0:23:16 > 0:23:19So we're going to make it even more tempting

0:23:19 > 0:23:21by encouraging him over there.

0:23:21 > 0:23:23So we're going to put some treats down.

0:23:24 > 0:23:26See how close he is.

0:23:26 > 0:23:28He knows that cheese is here.

0:23:28 > 0:23:30Here we are, look.

0:23:31 > 0:23:33OK. Look.

0:23:34 > 0:23:35Good boy!

0:23:35 > 0:23:37That was good.

0:23:37 > 0:23:40SHE LAUGHS

0:23:40 > 0:23:42- What about that?- Oh, I'm really impressed by that.

0:23:42 > 0:23:44That's really sweet. I feel really bad now.

0:23:44 > 0:23:48- Good boy.- Not only did he not take the cheese,

0:23:48 > 0:23:53but it took Emily and her team just 20 minutes,

0:23:53 > 0:23:5520 minutes to achieve that.

0:23:55 > 0:23:58And in terms of demonstrating canine intelligence, where does he stand,

0:23:58 > 0:24:00- as it were?- I think he's pretty top of the tree.

0:24:00 > 0:24:03We've found something that really motivates him, which helps.

0:24:03 > 0:24:07There always needs to be a reward when you're trying to teach something new.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10But he learnt it just like that. We were all very impressed.

0:24:10 > 0:24:12- Five stars!- Yeah. Five stars.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15There's actually a brain inside that beautiful, golden head.

0:24:15 > 0:24:17Clever, clever creature.

0:24:18 > 0:24:21As well as exercising self-control,

0:24:21 > 0:24:25dogs can also engage in what looks like deception.

0:24:25 > 0:24:28Studies have shown they're more likely to steal food when they think

0:24:28 > 0:24:30they're not being watched.

0:24:30 > 0:24:32What this says about their intelligence

0:24:32 > 0:24:36is that they have a concept of their owner's visual perspective

0:24:36 > 0:24:38and some scientists suggest they may even have

0:24:38 > 0:24:43a basic theory of mind which means they can attribute mental states

0:24:43 > 0:24:48to others. In simple terms, they deceive to avoid getting told off.

0:24:48 > 0:24:50Good boy, that was good.

0:24:50 > 0:24:54The lesson here is never underestimate your dog.

0:24:54 > 0:24:56Up you come. Good boy.

0:24:56 > 0:25:00I think it's fair to say that when it comes to the science of a dog's

0:25:00 > 0:25:03cognition, how it thinks, what it understands,

0:25:03 > 0:25:04whether it's intelligent or not,

0:25:04 > 0:25:06that science is still in its infancy.

0:25:06 > 0:25:08We've got a tremendous amount to learn.

0:25:08 > 0:25:12But what's exciting is that the humble family pet

0:25:12 > 0:25:15is becoming a popular subject for scientific study.

0:25:17 > 0:25:20These are intelligent animals, so if we can figure out,

0:25:20 > 0:25:24understand, what's going on inside their heads,

0:25:24 > 0:25:27then we can truly expand and strengthen that bond

0:25:27 > 0:25:29that we have with them.

0:25:30 > 0:25:32Tomorrow, our five final pairs face

0:25:32 > 0:25:35their last and biggest challenge yet.

0:25:35 > 0:25:39A human dog triathlon to determine which pair

0:25:39 > 0:25:41will be crowned champions.

0:25:43 > 0:25:46Feeling very excited about the triathlon.

0:25:46 > 0:25:50I think Bodger could win, absolutely no doubt.

0:25:50 > 0:25:54It's me that might hold us back,

0:25:54 > 0:25:57but Bodger could absolutely win and I'd love to win for her.

0:25:58 > 0:26:01I would absolutely love to win it,

0:26:01 > 0:26:03to prove to the world how good Douglas is.

0:26:03 > 0:26:05As soon as he gets the bit between his teeth,

0:26:05 > 0:26:08he really wants to go and I feel like I can gauge him.

0:26:08 > 0:26:11If I do that right and he's in the right frame of mind,

0:26:11 > 0:26:14which he has been, I think we'll be competitive.

0:26:30 > 0:26:32It's the morning of the Grand Final.

0:26:35 > 0:26:37Hi, Bodge. Morning, Bodger.

0:26:39 > 0:26:42The competitors are getting ready to do battle.

0:26:42 > 0:26:43Hey, Boo.

0:26:43 > 0:26:46For Andrew and Betty, that means taking a technical approach

0:26:46 > 0:26:48with meticulous preparation.

0:26:48 > 0:26:50I like to get prepared for things.

0:26:50 > 0:26:53I always panic that I'm going to miss something.

0:26:53 > 0:26:54Doug.

0:26:54 > 0:26:57For Josh and Doug, it's time to talk tactics.

0:26:57 > 0:26:59There will be a team talk, I'm sure, at one point.

0:27:01 > 0:27:02Doug?

0:27:02 > 0:27:04Doug?

0:27:04 > 0:27:08For Colin and Mitch, it's a chance for some last-minute training.

0:27:08 > 0:27:11Final run around the Brathay estate.

0:27:11 > 0:27:12We want to do well,

0:27:12 > 0:27:15we want to prove that we've come forward and I want to

0:27:15 > 0:27:17prove that out there today.

0:27:17 > 0:27:20But Toni and Flapjack favour quiet contemplation.

0:27:21 > 0:27:23This is our limbering up, isn't it, Jack?

0:27:26 > 0:27:28We don't get more energetic than this.

0:27:28 > 0:27:30Stretching the odd leg.

0:27:30 > 0:27:32I'll stretch the odd arm.

0:27:32 > 0:27:34There we go.

0:27:34 > 0:27:36We'll surprise you out in the fields, I'm sure.

0:27:41 > 0:27:44These are our five final pairs.

0:27:56 > 0:27:59They've all made great progress during the contest.

0:27:59 > 0:28:02Taking on challenges that have tested their communication skills...

0:28:02 > 0:28:03Good girl.

0:28:03 > 0:28:05..the trust between them...

0:28:05 > 0:28:06Let's go, Doug, let's go, Doug.

0:28:06 > 0:28:08..how well they can see the world from

0:28:08 > 0:28:12their dog's point of view, and their dog's intelligence.

0:28:12 > 0:28:15CHEERING

0:28:15 > 0:28:19Made up of disciplines they've all attempted earlier in the contest,

0:28:19 > 0:28:22our human-dog triathlon will test them on everything

0:28:22 > 0:28:26they've learned and show just how far they've come.

0:28:28 > 0:28:30This is the ultimate challenge.

0:28:32 > 0:28:35A 2km bike race over rugged terrain.

0:28:37 > 0:28:41A 100 metre swim in chilly Lake Windermere.

0:28:42 > 0:28:45And a 1.5km cross-country run.

0:28:49 > 0:28:50BARKING

0:28:50 > 0:28:52Here to cheer them through the final...

0:28:52 > 0:28:53Hello.

0:28:53 > 0:28:54..their friends and family.

0:28:54 > 0:28:56Look at this.

0:28:59 > 0:29:00Missed you.

0:29:00 > 0:29:03And there's a lot to catch up on.

0:29:03 > 0:29:05It's months, I've been away for months.

0:29:05 > 0:29:08- It feels like it. - Who's that? Who's that, Mitch?

0:29:10 > 0:29:11It's been really fun.

0:29:11 > 0:29:14We've done so much that I want to kind of pick up on and do again.

0:33:03 > 0:33:06That's the way. Go on, Bodger, go, go, go.

0:33:06 > 0:33:08In the earlier bike race,

0:33:08 > 0:33:12Bodger's need for reassurance meant she was reluctant to run in front.

0:33:12 > 0:33:15Just seeing her get a bit, not really distressed,

0:33:15 > 0:33:16but really confused about...

0:33:16 > 0:33:18It was like, "Tell me what I'm supposed to be doing.

0:34:46 > 0:34:48Betty's thrived with someone to chase

0:34:48 > 0:34:52and with no-one in front of her, she's immediately distracted.

0:34:52 > 0:34:55She likes to chase things so if she's not chasing something,

0:34:55 > 0:34:58she just runs at my side and the point is the dog is supposed to be

0:34:58 > 0:35:00pulling you along.

0:35:00 > 0:35:02Come on, Betty. Come on.

0:40:21 > 0:40:24Hold on, everyone. We might have a bit of a problem.

0:40:27 > 0:40:33Just as our pairs prepare for the swim, there's bad news.

0:40:33 > 0:40:36The estate's technical officer and the competition vet

0:40:36 > 0:40:37are forced to intervene.

0:40:37 > 0:40:40The reason I've called you down, guys,

0:40:40 > 0:40:43is while setting out the triathlon course,

0:40:43 > 0:40:46I noticed these scum areas,

0:40:46 > 0:40:49so you never know if it's blue green algae, you just assume it is.

0:40:49 > 0:40:52There are certain varieties of blue green algae

0:40:52 > 0:40:54that can be quite toxic.

0:40:54 > 0:40:56It can be quite serious for the dogs.

0:40:56 > 0:40:58Sometimes there can be fatalities as well.

0:40:58 > 0:41:00- No dogs, no water. - Probably not today.

0:41:00 > 0:41:03Blue green algae are microscopic organisms

0:41:03 > 0:41:05that grow in freshwater lakes.

0:41:05 > 0:41:09Recognisable by their blooms, which form a scum-like layer

0:41:09 > 0:41:11on the surface of the water,

0:41:11 > 0:41:17blue green algae isn't always harmful but it can be fatal to dogs.

0:41:17 > 0:41:20It's simply not worth the risk.

0:41:20 > 0:41:22No-one is going to take a risk with their dog.

0:41:22 > 0:41:23It's that simple.

0:41:23 > 0:41:25- No way.- It's not happening.

0:41:25 > 0:41:29So this swimming event is going to be a human only event.

0:41:29 > 0:41:31- So we're all right? - You're going to be fine.

0:41:31 > 0:41:33I know animals are nearest your hearts.

0:41:33 > 0:41:35They are, they are.

0:41:35 > 0:41:38Now you have quite clearly been relying upon your dogs

0:41:38 > 0:41:41to succeed in some of our challenges,

0:41:41 > 0:41:43there's no doubt about that.

0:41:43 > 0:41:48But on this occasion, your dogs are going to be relying upon you.

0:41:48 > 0:41:50They will be cheering from the back.

0:41:50 > 0:41:55So whatever happens, this is your chance to not let your dogs down.

0:41:58 > 0:42:00Could I interest you in a dog?

0:42:02 > 0:42:04I shall miss Flapjack in the water.

0:42:04 > 0:42:06I feel hugely anxious because I'm worrying

0:42:06 > 0:42:08that I may let him down because he is a faster swimmer than me

0:42:08 > 0:42:11and I do have to kick quite hard to keep up.

0:42:11 > 0:42:12Good luck, guys.

0:42:12 > 0:42:14Good luck, everybody.

0:42:15 > 0:42:17Oh, yes, very graceful!

0:42:19 > 0:42:21While their dogs watch on,

0:42:21 > 0:42:25the five human finalists are deposited on a small island.

0:42:28 > 0:42:31From here, they'll have to swim around two buoys

0:42:31 > 0:42:32and back to the finish line.

0:42:34 > 0:42:38After ten days of spending every waking moment with their dogs,

0:42:38 > 0:42:40this is the first time they face the challenge alone.

0:42:40 > 0:42:42I can hear somebody barking.

0:42:42 > 0:42:43- Is that Bodge?- Probably.

0:42:43 > 0:42:46In the earlier swimming challenge...

0:42:46 > 0:42:48Come on, Bodger!

0:42:48 > 0:42:51..the strength of the bond between Badger and Bodger shone through

0:42:51 > 0:42:53and it was their strongest event.

0:42:53 > 0:42:56Bodger and Badger are coming in really fast.

0:42:56 > 0:42:57It's your little face,

0:42:57 > 0:43:01her little face and it was a moment of togetherness and connectedness.

0:43:01 > 0:43:02Just beautiful.

0:43:02 > 0:43:03Really gutted.

0:43:03 > 0:43:06It was like our favourite thing to swim with Bodger.

0:43:06 > 0:43:08She will be cheering me on.

0:43:08 > 0:43:10Hell, she'll be going crazy.

0:43:10 > 0:43:12She'll be like, "What are you doing out there without me?"

0:43:12 > 0:43:16But for Josh, going solo this time comes as a relief.

0:43:16 > 0:43:17They're in trouble.

0:43:17 > 0:43:21Despite a consistently strong performance throughout the contest,

0:43:21 > 0:43:24the swimming race was their lowest point.

0:43:24 > 0:43:27He just got tangled up. He couldn't swim so...

0:43:28 > 0:43:30..I don't know.

0:43:33 > 0:43:37Now this race will be a simple test of human speed and endurance.

0:43:37 > 0:43:40It is a big game changer but this is going to increase

0:43:40 > 0:43:42my chances of doing well in this section.

0:43:42 > 0:43:44I think with Betty not on my back,

0:43:44 > 0:43:46it might make it a tiny bit easier for me!

0:43:48 > 0:43:50Oh, it's cold!

0:43:50 > 0:43:52It's the moment of truth.

0:43:52 > 0:43:56OK, let's get it going. On your marks,

0:43:56 > 0:43:58get set,

0:43:58 > 0:43:59go!

0:44:03 > 0:44:05- Come on.- Go on, Josh!

0:44:06 > 0:44:08Not very fast.

0:44:08 > 0:44:11They're off. Look, someone's taking a clear lead.

0:44:12 > 0:44:17As they reach the halfway point, there's a clear frontrunner.

0:44:17 > 0:44:19Josh in front, followed by Andrew.

0:44:21 > 0:44:24- Who's that? - DOG WHINES

0:44:26 > 0:44:29- Toni's catching Badger, though. - Badger went a little bit off course.

0:44:32 > 0:44:33Colin bringing up the rear.

0:44:33 > 0:44:36Go on, Colin!

0:44:36 > 0:44:37Come on, Colin!

0:44:37 > 0:44:42In the home straight, it looks like Josh is holding on to his lead.

0:44:42 > 0:44:43Come on, Josh!

0:44:43 > 0:44:45But Andrew is in hot pursuit.

0:44:45 > 0:44:47Come on, Drew!

0:44:47 > 0:44:49Behind them, Toni and Badger are fighting out for third.

0:44:49 > 0:44:52Go, Toni!

0:44:52 > 0:44:54Josh is going to make it first.

0:45:00 > 0:45:02Andrew is not far behind him.

0:45:02 > 0:45:06- Yay.- And then it's Toni, she's come through ahead of Badger.

0:45:06 > 0:45:09- Yeah.- The dogs are cheering them on.

0:45:09 > 0:45:10Big time.

0:45:10 > 0:45:14Colin, make sure you touch the blue finish so we can stop the stopwatch.

0:45:14 > 0:45:15APPLAUSE

0:45:15 > 0:45:17Excellent, excellent.

0:45:20 > 0:45:23Before they can reunite with their dogs,

0:45:23 > 0:45:25the humans must rinse off the algae.

0:45:25 > 0:45:27Is that algae cleaning off?

0:45:27 > 0:45:30Then we want this off and we're going to rinse you down

0:45:30 > 0:45:33one more time, so it's going to be even cooler, all right?

0:45:33 > 0:45:35Oh, flipping heck!

0:45:35 > 0:45:37It was much harder swimming without Bodger.

0:45:37 > 0:45:43I didn't have her encouragement and I think if I had had Bodger with me,

0:45:43 > 0:45:46we might have got a bit higher up the ranks.

0:45:46 > 0:45:51It went fine. I survived, I got out, it was good.

0:45:51 > 0:45:55I mean, I would've liked there to have been a golden dog beside me.

0:45:58 > 0:45:59Wrong leg.

0:46:02 > 0:46:06Josh's strong swim means he and Doug have opened up a lead

0:46:06 > 0:46:08but Andrew and Betty and Badger and Bodger

0:46:08 > 0:46:10are still in strong contention.

0:46:10 > 0:46:13Jackie, Jackie boy.

0:46:13 > 0:46:14Come here. Come here.

0:46:14 > 0:46:16Reunited with their dogs,

0:46:16 > 0:46:18our finalists now face the last event

0:46:18 > 0:46:20with four fresh legs to spur them on.

0:46:20 > 0:46:24Hello, friend, how are you doing? How are you doing, love?

0:46:24 > 0:46:26It's really good to see you.

0:46:27 > 0:46:29Missed you, missed you.

0:46:32 > 0:46:37It all comes down to a one and a half kilometre cross-country run.

0:46:39 > 0:46:43Each dog will be attached to their owner with a special harness.

0:46:43 > 0:46:45Come on, then, Mitch. Come on, then, mate.

0:46:45 > 0:46:48Everything they've learned about trust and communication

0:46:48 > 0:46:50will come into play.

0:46:50 > 0:46:54It will be a final test of their bond as they strive to run as one.

0:46:58 > 0:47:00First, through dense woodland,

0:47:00 > 0:47:04then over open rough ground with a final sprint downhill

0:47:04 > 0:47:09to the finish line where the winning pair with the fastest combined time

0:47:09 > 0:47:13from all three events will be crowned champions.

0:47:14 > 0:47:17What a tremendous series of challenges it's been

0:47:17 > 0:47:21and now it's come down to this final stage.

0:47:21 > 0:47:25I can say that we've looked at the times and it's all to play for,

0:47:25 > 0:47:26so go for it.

0:47:26 > 0:47:28Sian, as ever, it's about teamwork, isn't it?

0:47:28 > 0:47:31It is. You're going to go up there and you're going to think

0:47:31 > 0:47:34about running together. Hopefully they might give you a bit of

0:47:34 > 0:47:36a pull because you're uphill for some of the way.

0:47:36 > 0:47:39This is the last bit of the challenge. Enjoy it.

0:47:39 > 0:47:41In the earlier running challenge,

0:47:41 > 0:47:45Josh and Doug led the pack but faltered on the final ascent

0:47:45 > 0:47:48and Andrew and Betty stormed through to victory.

0:47:48 > 0:47:50Go, girl! Go on, Betty!

0:47:50 > 0:47:52If they can win today,

0:47:52 > 0:47:56Andrew and Betty could still walk away with the title,

0:47:56 > 0:47:59and Badger and Bodger are by no means out of the running.

0:48:00 > 0:48:03I'm going to... I'm backing Douglas to just pull me around, I think.

0:48:03 > 0:48:05If I can keep up with him for even half of it,

0:48:05 > 0:48:09I think we'll do OK but I don't think it's going to be enough.

0:48:09 > 0:48:10Andy is a superstar.

0:48:11 > 0:48:15I'm going to have to push it and push it hard

0:48:15 > 0:48:18but I know Betty struggles to run from the lead

0:48:18 > 0:48:22so it may just be a case of we're following Josh.

0:48:22 > 0:48:24Are you ready to go, mate?

0:48:24 > 0:48:26We've got to run, now. We've got to run, now.

0:48:28 > 0:48:29Good talk.

0:48:30 > 0:48:34But not all the dogs are quite so primed and ready.

0:48:34 > 0:48:37Flapjack clearly thinks he's done enough already.

0:48:37 > 0:48:41Oh, Jack. Oh, Jack.

0:55:45 > 0:55:47Good boy, Doug. Come on, then.

0:55:47 > 0:55:51And if you support your dog physically, mentally

0:55:53 > 0:55:55Good boy, what's this, then?

0:55:55 > 0:55:59And it's that shared endeavour that makes our bond so special.

0:55:59 > 0:56:03What a joy this has been, watching these bonds grow.

0:56:03 > 0:56:06I mean, I'm going to leave with a lot of treasured memories,
