:00:24. > :00:29.Welcome to the third day of this year's Royal Welsh Show 2011. For

:00:29. > :00:34.me, nothing can beat Wednesday's atmosphere amount -- around the

:00:34. > :00:39.main ring in the fight for the ultimate prize, the George Prince

:00:39. > :00:43.of Wales Cup. And in the cattle ring, the Supreme Dairy

:00:43. > :00:51.Championships is the main competition. With my new-found

:00:51. > :00:56.knowledge, I will see if I can see who the judge will Crown King in

:00:56. > :01:00.the sheep section. Breeding and showing animals is

:01:00. > :01:10.part of a family affair for many exhibitors but for some the

:01:10. > :01:26.

:01:26. > :01:32.I am Charlotte, I am The Gulls Auntie. My sister is the girl's mum

:01:32. > :01:35.and she died of cancer two years ago. I stepped in to the role and

:01:35. > :01:41.help to the girls continue with their hobby and act as normal as

:01:41. > :01:51.possible. She was keen on the girls doing well, I stepped in at the

:01:51. > :01:59.role quite well. Mum is still with us wherever we go. We are still

:01:59. > :02:02.altogether. Keep your hands together. They are fun. We do not

:02:03. > :02:12.just concentrate on producing ponies for showing, they are part

:02:13. > :02:13.

:02:13. > :02:23.of life. We mess around with the mostly. Little gallops, ride with

:02:23. > :02:23.

:02:23. > :02:33.saddles and have fun. It would be nice to be in the first two. He was

:02:33. > :02:34.

:02:34. > :02:40.second last year. It is nice to be in the first two. The Royal Welsh

:02:40. > :02:44.is the Royal Welsh. It is lovely to win. It is a big week for us, yes.

:02:44. > :02:54.One of the most important weeks of the year. It is good to get the

:02:54. > :02:58.

:02:58. > :03:02.atmosphere, see your friends, take And on show day, the girls were up

:03:02. > :03:06.at the crack of dawn preparing the ponies under the watchful eye of

:03:06. > :03:14.their art Charlotte. Dad joined me to watch the first performance of

:03:14. > :03:21.the day. Abbey is first up. How is she doing? Not too bad. We would

:03:21. > :03:28.have to wait and see. What is your role? General dogsbody! Ay fetch

:03:28. > :03:35.and carry for them. You must be so proud of your goals. I am. It is

:03:35. > :03:45.something they enjoy doing. Since my wife died, it is given us focus

:03:45. > :03:54.

:03:54. > :04:01.We have had a result and she has moved up the line. Yes, into second,

:04:01. > :04:08.a good result. She will be thrilled. She will. It is Isabel's turn next.

:04:08. > :04:13.It is. As she stepped onto the stage, the boss herself, art

:04:13. > :04:19.Charlotte was watching with me from the sidelines. We have had a result.

:04:19. > :04:25.Really happy, second. The best pony in the country. A beautiful pony,

:04:25. > :04:35.the one that one. It went well. two seconds for two sisters.

:04:35. > :04:37.

:04:38. > :04:43.Congratulations, you did really well. How did it feel? Really good,

:04:43. > :04:49.Polly went really well. You cannot expect more. And Auntie Charlotte

:04:49. > :04:55.was happy. Yes, we were moved up from fourth to second. I was really

:04:55. > :05:05.chuffed. The sky is the limit if you are a climate. I draw the line

:05:05. > :05:11.

:05:11. > :05:15.at this. The climbers were battling Last year's winner was Matt Thomas,

:05:15. > :05:23.he is back to the train -- retain his crown. He has more to prove

:05:23. > :05:25.than ever. Last September he was crowned world pole climbing

:05:25. > :05:35.champion at the 2010 international forestry exhibition in Cannock

:05:35. > :05:40.Chase. There is a lot of honour at stake, but there is added pressure.

:05:40. > :05:46.Yes, I slipped a disc in my neck last week. It is quite hard keeping

:05:46. > :05:53.it under control whilst climbing. Will it hinder your progress?

:05:53. > :05:58.might do, it is strapped up well. Who is your biggest competitor?

:05:58. > :06:02.holds the world record. He is pretty quick. There were 14

:06:02. > :06:07.competitors climbing 80 ft up the pole and with his injury Matt

:06:07. > :06:13.reached the top in an amazing 11 seconds. One of the best times of

:06:13. > :06:17.the day. You are through to the finer, how do you feel? It is good

:06:17. > :06:22.to get through to the final, I had a couple of slips. It was a good

:06:22. > :06:27.time. I am looking forward to defending my title. What are your

:06:27. > :06:37.chances? Pretty good, my neck is holding out. Hopefully I'll get

:06:37. > :06:39.

:06:39. > :06:49.away with it. Best of luck. Thank And in the final, and injured Matt

:06:49. > :07:03.

:07:03. > :07:10.was up against his arch rival. So, it went OK? Yes, third time in

:07:10. > :07:16.a row. It did not Hindi too much? had a couple of slips and felt it

:07:16. > :07:22.pulling. Pleased. So, you're still Welsh champion. Yes. World champion.

:07:22. > :07:27.Yes. Not bad. Current European, we find out on Thursday if I can

:07:27. > :07:33.retainer. And none the worse for wear. Not too bad, I live to fight

:07:33. > :07:39.another day. Congratulations. Well deserved. Thank you. Tens of

:07:39. > :07:44.thousands of people come to the show each day, to compete and watch

:07:44. > :07:47.and enjoy it an amazing display and to catch up with friends. For some,

:07:47. > :07:52.coming to the show has changed their lives completely. Because

:07:52. > :07:57.they found love. # Lovers in the air.

:07:57. > :08:04.Of I came here thinking I would find Mr Darcy coming down the High

:08:04. > :08:10.Street. I was walking up through and spotted her. I got chatted up

:08:10. > :08:16.by a loud mouth pushy young lad. The I bought her a drink. We

:08:16. > :08:26.started chatting. I was not short. We met 21 years ago and have been

:08:26. > :08:27.

:08:27. > :08:31.coming ever since. We met in 2006, five years ago. I was showing

:08:31. > :08:39.cattle -- she was showing cattle with her parents. We are into the

:08:39. > :08:46.same things so it was brilliant. have been engaged for 18 months. We

:08:46. > :08:51.are living on a farm together. It is a great opportunity for young

:08:51. > :08:55.farmers to get together and meet you and -- a new people forced up

:08:55. > :09:04.my chat-up line was would you like to see my sheep? Amazingly, I said

:09:04. > :09:08.yes. I do not remember the proposal. It was alleged the following

:09:08. > :09:13.morning and I remember a big smile on her face so she must have been

:09:13. > :09:21.happy. We had to get married, she would not live with me. He was

:09:21. > :09:31.handsome. She was a farmer's daughter, spoke Welsh, plenty of

:09:31. > :09:39.

:09:39. > :09:46.acres, help the planet type. All Still to come, top honours in the

:09:46. > :09:50.dairy section. The Supreme Champion he is decided and the stallions

:09:50. > :09:57.make an entrance in the ring. Catch up with any programmes on the

:09:57. > :10:01.iPlayer. On Wednesday morning the champions from each of the four

:10:01. > :10:08.Dairy sections, Holstein, Jersey, Shotton and Ayrshire stepped back

:10:08. > :10:13.into the cattle ring to compete for the Supreme Championship. The

:10:13. > :10:16.Harries family are here competing in the short horn section, like all

:10:16. > :10:20.exhibitors the dream is to be representing their breed in the

:10:21. > :10:30.Supreme Dairy Championships. I am with a farm and son as they get

:10:31. > :10:33.

:10:33. > :10:39.ready. What do you bring this year? Three short horns, and there are

:10:39. > :10:47.not many of them in the shows. It is important we needed more to

:10:47. > :10:52.breed. How to divide up the duties between you? Who does what? At the

:10:53. > :10:57.Royal Welsh, it is Dad's holiday. It is his social event of the year.

:10:57. > :11:04.He comes and looks after the cows and me and my mother stays at home.

:11:04. > :11:11.You had a great day yesterday. You go on to compete in the interbreed.

:11:11. > :11:17.That is special. Yes, fantastic. To get there with the other champions

:11:17. > :11:19.of the breed, that is a chance. Especially on the Welsh level. We

:11:19. > :11:29.get to show Great Britain what we have to offer. This is our shop

:11:29. > :11:29.

:11:29. > :11:34.window. No pressure. None at all. It is my holiday! Dad is now

:11:34. > :11:40.parading around the show ring with Peggy. What does it mean to you to

:11:40. > :11:45.be representing your breed? fantastic achievement. To be able

:11:45. > :11:48.to take one of our own animals in and for one day it is your show.

:11:48. > :11:52.know why your loyalties lie but who do you think will take the

:11:52. > :11:58.championship today? Without hesitation it will be the Holstein.

:11:59. > :12:04.We have not seen that sort of quality for many years. It is what

:12:04. > :12:08.the breed needs, so much of jejune comes down to style of animals. No

:12:08. > :12:14.matter whether you keep cows, you can recognise the style. She stands

:12:14. > :12:24.out more than any other cow. looks tremendous. We will see if

:12:24. > :12:35.

:12:35. > :12:42.Owain, you were spot on. The whole stance of the championship. There

:12:42. > :12:48.was no other choice today. The cow stood out. What is it mean to you?

:12:48. > :12:55.A great feeling. I never had this feeling before. We never won the

:12:55. > :13:02.individual before. A marvellous achievement. Bridesmaid so many

:13:02. > :13:09.times but never the bride. Finally our luck has come in. It is a good

:13:10. > :13:14.feeling for friends and family. Congratulations. A great result.

:13:15. > :13:22.One of the other big championships is the supreme peak, the champion

:13:22. > :13:27.of champions. Competing at the show is Barbara Warren from Pontypool.

:13:27. > :13:37.Barbara's Tamworths are traditional pics and her town words are being

:13:37. > :13:41.

:13:41. > :13:46.used in a traditional way. -- her We have them on the farm for 20

:13:46. > :13:52.years, 23 years. We went for them because they are at high altitude

:13:52. > :14:02.very good. They do not suffer from sunburn because they have a gold

:14:02. > :14:03.

:14:03. > :14:09.colour. They get a jolly hairy coat in winter keeping them warm outside.

:14:09. > :14:13.Last year I received a phone call asking me how the pigs would manage

:14:13. > :14:21.on the island. And if they could have some for Bracken clearance and

:14:21. > :14:27.they brought three pigs to clear the bracken. We are on the boat

:14:27. > :14:32.going over. Penarth is behind us. The very excited. Never been before.

:14:32. > :14:36.We are going to see the island and the pigs. I look forward to seeing

:14:36. > :14:43.how they have grown. They should have grown quite enormously with

:14:43. > :14:53.all the food. They have dug over the gardens and so on. That is what

:14:53. > :14:53.

:14:53. > :14:58.they are for, digging. My goodness me! They really have grown well.

:14:58. > :15:05.You are nice and clean. But you have grown as well. You will be

:15:06. > :15:10.absolutely super. They have done a fantastic job. We have done by the

:15:10. > :15:15.lighthouse keeper's garden in the south. They came on at eight weeks

:15:15. > :15:20.and have been learning to plough more and more as they grow up. They

:15:20. > :15:24.have basically done a really good job. We have moved them into the

:15:24. > :15:33.paddock, I was told to be wary of having them on the island but

:15:33. > :15:42.they've been wonderful. Good- They have enjoyed their time. They

:15:42. > :15:49.are very busy pigs, the love working.

:15:49. > :15:54.How many Tamworths have you brought to the shore? I have brought four.

:15:54. > :15:58.How have you got on? We have got second and third. We have not done

:15:58. > :16:04.badly but they have not had any red rosettes this year. So you are not

:16:04. > :16:09.taking part in the Supreme pig? it is a lot of extra work for us.

:16:10. > :16:16.Allows me to do other things today. Like socialise? Yes, that would be

:16:16. > :16:21.nice. Is that something you enjoy doing here? You can talk to people

:16:21. > :16:27.and tell them about how wonderful Tamworths are. We take this

:16:27. > :16:31.wonderful opportunity. This is our only shop window. They are not seen

:16:31. > :16:39.by the public usually. They come here and they all ask questions and

:16:39. > :16:44.they want to know how they can keep them. Barbara, you have had a

:16:44. > :16:51.wonderful time here. Let's see who will clinch the championship.

:16:51. > :16:57.This is that, the supreme championship. They are having the

:16:57. > :17:04.champion female and the reserve champion female. They are also

:17:04. > :17:14.having the champion and reserve champion male. Have we got a

:17:14. > :17:22.

:17:22. > :17:29.result? It looks ASLEF -- he is taking it back to Anglesey. Still

:17:29. > :17:39.to come tonight: The section the stallions perform. In she bring,

:17:39. > :17:43.another Supreme Championship. And the Prince of Wales Cup 2012. --

:17:43. > :17:51.2011. It was a great honour and privilege

:17:51. > :17:56.to be chosen to judge here. Jussi possibly 30 judges judging the

:17:56. > :18:06.Royal Welsh. I am honoured to be on that list. What they will be

:18:06. > :18:07.

:18:07. > :18:10.looking for is a natural style. It will be the best collection of

:18:10. > :18:16.Welsh cobs in the world and I have a great honour and pleasure from

:18:16. > :18:18.choosing from them. I hope I make the right decision on the day.

:18:18. > :18:23.His thoughts on the once-in-a- lifetime privilege of judging the

:18:23. > :18:29.Welsh Cob classes here this week. With the champion being awarded the

:18:29. > :18:34.George Prince of Wales Cup by the end of the Day Today. Late morning,

:18:34. > :18:39.the junior stallions take centre- stage. Then in the afternoon, the

:18:39. > :18:43.senior stallions make their spectacular entrance.

:18:43. > :18:49.I am now here with a group of exhibitors who are trying for

:18:49. > :18:58.success in both classes while keeping it in the family. We have

:18:58. > :19:02.two families acting as a team. We have felt here. His horses taking

:19:02. > :19:08.part in the senior championship. Over here we have Mac senior whose

:19:08. > :19:15.horses taking part in the junior stallion championship. The point is

:19:15. > :19:21.that your horse and your horse are half-brothers. One goes into the

:19:21. > :19:27.junior stallion class. Later in the afternoon, the older brother

:19:27. > :19:37.follows on. Junior does the running for you? Junior does the running

:19:37. > :19:42.

:19:42. > :19:50.for me. Tommy, you are a cousin? Have you got dual nationality?

:19:50. > :20:00.He is an adopted Welshman. Fantastic! What does it mean to you

:20:00. > :20:02.

:20:02. > :20:08.all to win here? We work all year for this particular day. So first

:20:08. > :20:14.up in the stallion class. I cannot begin to imagine how you must be

:20:14. > :20:20.feeling now. To say nervous is an understatement. This is his first

:20:20. > :20:27.time at the Royal Welsh. The one in second place was last year's won

:20:27. > :20:32.her. So much more pressure. Unbelievable at the moment. I do

:20:32. > :20:42.not know what to say to you. I am so nervous. A big chap like you!

:20:42. > :20:47.

:20:47. > :20:57.You are trembling. It is an adrenalin rush.

:20:57. > :21:04.

:21:04. > :21:10.Have we got its! Fantastic! Thank you very much. A great result there

:21:10. > :21:18.for the junior stallion Trevelyan Black Harry. Let's see how his

:21:18. > :21:27.brother does this afternoon. I played my own small part in the

:21:27. > :21:31.siege section this year. -- these it -- sheep section. You have got

:21:31. > :21:37.to be voted top of your class, best inbreed Anerley then will you get

:21:37. > :21:42.the opportunity to compete here at the Royal Welsh. But to win the

:21:42. > :21:47.supreme championship, well, that is the ultimate dream.

:21:47. > :21:55.One young man who started the week with big dreams is James. He has

:21:56. > :22:05.been showing his own flock of sheep this week from his help -- from --

:22:06. > :22:08.

:22:08. > :22:13.with help from his sister. We won 4th with one year. We also had a

:22:13. > :22:21.first. So really good this rate. That is excellent. What are the

:22:21. > :22:25.chances of them going on to the Supreme? Quite good. We will have

:22:25. > :22:35.bigger and better shape next year angle from there. And will flee

:22:35. > :22:42.when it again. You are showing Jacobs. Why? We liked the breed.

:22:42. > :22:47.They are very friendly. They are good natured. I have not as they

:22:47. > :22:52.are good natured. How did you get into this? My grandfather bought

:22:52. > :23:00.them from the local community farm and it went from there. Someone

:23:00. > :23:08.said to me you should show them. I did in our local Sure back in 2000

:23:08. > :23:16.-- back in 2005. They went from there. I bought my three pedigree

:23:16. > :23:21.you is from Berkeley. How do they normally do in the Supreme? I have

:23:21. > :23:27.always known them wants to when the Supreme. They are fine-boned shape

:23:27. > :23:33.than the others. They do take a bit of a hit when they come against

:23:33. > :23:37.those chic. After selecting the best in the upland, Lowland and

:23:37. > :23:43.continental section, it was a head- to-head contest for the ultimate

:23:43. > :23:53.accolade. And the judge from Bristol had obviously found the

:23:53. > :23:56.

:23:56. > :23:59.task quite straightforward. Goodness me, that was quick. Graham

:23:59. > :24:04.has won the Supreme Champion. judge knew what he was looking for.

:24:04. > :24:10.That was about five seconds. It is a good shape so it catches the

:24:10. > :24:20.judge's high. Are you agreeing with him? Yes, it was a really good

:24:20. > :24:36.

:24:37. > :24:44.I can only think you are feeling incredibly proud. I am so excited,

:24:44. > :24:50.I have never felt this way before. This is the senior stallion class.

:24:50. > :24:55.He is going to get a fair chance that it. And extra special because

:24:55. > :25:05.you read him from a baby. Yes. Harry is getting ready for his

:25:05. > :25:09.

:25:09. > :25:14.individual run. It will be all or nothing from now on. Here we go.

:25:14. > :25:21.That is fine. He is doing the job. He is going better now than he did

:25:21. > :25:25.before. After that fantastic performance, Phil was a little

:25:25. > :25:30.disappointed as Mr Harry was called in second. What we thought was the

:25:31. > :25:36.final judgement. But it was not over yet as they judge asked his

:25:36. > :25:46.top two stallions to perform once more before an enraptured crowd and

:25:46. > :25:57.

:25:57. > :26:05.an agonised fill. Come on! Does that mean he has won? Yes.

:26:05. > :26:15.Congratulations! Well done. Tears are going to have all now. That has

:26:15. > :26:19.

:26:19. > :26:29.done it for me. 30 years I have been waiting to win this. This was

:26:29. > :26:29.

:26:29. > :26:35.a story that none of us could have dreamt. It was Black Harry who took

:26:35. > :26:39.the top prize and he went on to the overall male champion. This meant

:26:39. > :26:43.that Matt's young stallion was up for the ultimate prize, the George

:26:43. > :26:53.Prince of Wales Cup against the female champion Abba give any

:26:53. > :26:57.

:26:57. > :27:03.morning Queen. -- Abba give any -- the winning stallion and Mayer, of

:27:03. > :27:07.10 up his brother and sister is incredible. Perhaps not a fairy-

:27:07. > :27:17.tale ending. Still starred us all round as Trevelyan black Carrie was

:27:17. > :27:20.

:27:20. > :27:30.put to the post by the -- his have sister,. Abergavenny Morning Queen

:27:30. > :27:40.did come up trumps. She dead. is a big Mayer and gets up and goes.

:27:40. > :28:02.

:28:02. > :28:07.She loves the crowd. She has turned It has been another terrific day

:28:07. > :28:15.here. If you have missed any Armagh highlights you can catch up on I

:28:15. > :28:19.player. Or you could check out my blog online. It continues on 6am on

:28:19. > :28:23.BBC Radio Wales. Join us again tomorrow night when
