:00:36. > :00:40.Welsh Show. We have had a fantastic 50th year since the show has been

:00:40. > :00:45.situated here at Llanelwedd and tonight we will renew the highlights

:00:46. > :00:53.of an exciting, fun filled week. On Monday we visited the horticultural

:00:53. > :00:57.museum and saw some fabulous flower displays. For the past 50 Years

:00:57. > :01:01.Llanelwedd has played host to a successful and colourful flower tent

:01:01. > :01:05.and this year is no different. Flower displays are something to be

:01:05. > :01:10.marvelled that. I have no idea that creative minds and fingers have been

:01:10. > :01:16.busy again this year. There are rules to do with size, backdrops and

:01:16. > :01:21.specific themes. This woman is competing in seven different

:01:21. > :01:31.classes. With 20 years experience, having come through the ranks, she

:01:31. > :01:38.

:01:38. > :01:42.is currently the champion. I am going to cover this whole area with

:01:42. > :01:50.wild material, the whole design from top to bottom. It is made of plant

:01:50. > :01:55.material. Little pieces of full, just to interpret the class title. I

:01:55. > :02:05.have been here since midday, I will be here until midnight flower

:02:05. > :02:07.

:02:07. > :02:11.arranging. It is a wonderful place to come and meet and socialise. A

:02:11. > :02:21.lovely atmosphere, we all get on really well. It is a lovely show to

:02:21. > :02:22.

:02:22. > :02:29.compete in. How have you done? Brilliant. Highly commended. Highest

:02:29. > :02:33.number of points, I am very pleased. This is one of your works. It is

:02:33. > :02:38.absolutely beautiful, totally stunning. Tried to do something

:02:38. > :02:43.different from the usual designs I normally do, create something

:02:43. > :02:48.totally innovative with a variety of textures and foliage, colour, form

:02:48. > :02:51.and what you need to create a good overall floral display. I just

:02:52. > :02:57.thought linking the colours, linked in with the Welsh designer Julien

:02:57. > :03:05.MacDonald, and making the handbag and tissue also helps with the

:03:05. > :03:11.interpretation of British fashion week. Also a judge? Yes, I recently

:03:11. > :03:15.judged my first national flower show in Bournemouth, which was quite an

:03:15. > :03:20.achievement. I enjoyed every minute of it, hopefully I will go on to

:03:21. > :03:27.more shows in the future. I enjoy competition work also if you are a,

:03:27. > :03:34.competition work is important. think all that is left to say is

:03:34. > :03:37.congratulations and good luck for the future, as if you needed!

:03:37. > :03:41.Portuguese School of a question I'd is a team of 16 people and 20 horses

:03:41. > :03:46.that have travelled up to four years to get to guest-macro, and although

:03:46. > :03:52.they have performed all over the world, this is their first time in

:03:52. > :03:55.Wales. -- to get to Llanelwedd. You are the team manager of the

:03:55. > :04:04.Portuguese School, how much work goes into preparing these horses for

:04:04. > :04:10.displays? It is a lot of work, all these horses their main arranged in

:04:10. > :04:15.a manner, so it takes a lot of time, about an hour each horse. What is so

:04:15. > :04:24.special about these horses? They have a very nice character and/or

:04:24. > :04:33.easy to teach. They almost seem to perform ballet, they are above the

:04:33. > :04:40.ground. It looks like they are dancing, we use 18th-century music.

:04:40. > :04:50.How long have you been with these horses? Since 33 years. The school

:04:50. > :04:54.

:04:54. > :05:04.was founded in 1979 and I became a rider in 1988. My experiences could!

:05:04. > :05:07.

:05:07. > :05:16.I look forward to seeing you in from the pigs and the further and

:05:16. > :05:23.further, the goats are housed. They vary in size, but this breed caught

:05:23. > :05:27.my eye, the Angora goats. Maybe it is the curly hair! The chief steward

:05:27. > :05:33.moved to Wales in the 27 and now farms in the heart of the mountains

:05:33. > :05:41.in amateur. As well as showing his interesting animals, they have found

:05:41. > :05:47.another use by selling them as mohair. We first started giving

:05:47. > :05:53.dairy goats 40 years ago. There were no Angora goats brought in the

:05:53. > :05:59.country until 1981. We wanted fibre goats, you have to milk them twice a

:05:59. > :06:05.day, not so much work with the Angoras, they are more like sheep. I

:06:05. > :06:11.have a small showroom, I try and have a small amount of the different

:06:11. > :06:18.types of things you can get from the Angora goat. We have the skins, we

:06:18. > :06:25.have the garments, I am an agent for someone who sells stocks which are

:06:25. > :06:32.very good. It is a spin off, really. Diversification. The mohair has gone

:06:32. > :06:35.up in value since we have exported to South Africa, where the main

:06:36. > :06:45.world market for mohair is, we are getting a much better return. It

:06:45. > :06:49.seemed the obvious thing for us to do. Vivian and Douglas, you and the

:06:49. > :06:56.goats have arrived safely from Pembrokeshire. Who is this fine

:06:56. > :07:03.specimen? This is Aberystwyth, he is a senior goat, he has retained all

:07:03. > :07:08.his most fair -- mohair, which is even all the way around. Sometimes

:07:08. > :07:14.they get heavy on the front. many have you brought and how much

:07:14. > :07:19.work is it to show them here? have brought nine, will to keep them

:07:19. > :07:23.as clean as we can for the show, make them presentable. We can't do

:07:23. > :07:33.much in the way of washing them because it will be tracked, it tends

:07:33. > :07:33.

:07:33. > :07:37.to make them go fluffy. Best of luck to you both and to Aberystwyth here.

:07:37. > :07:43.With their growth should -- grandchildren watching, they took

:07:43. > :07:50.top honours in the senior but class, another triumph for Aberystwyth the

:07:50. > :07:58.Angora goat. They described it as the Clash of the Titans! Thank you

:07:58. > :08:08.very much! Wales came out on top! Always good when that happens!

:08:08. > :08:12.

:08:12. > :08:15.Aberystwyth 's winning streak settled here in race macro the

:08:15. > :08:20.further and feather tent was a smaller affair than it is now. Since

:08:20. > :08:29.then it has grown in popularity and attracts a number of dedicated young

:08:29. > :08:32.people who share a love of all things further and further. One of

:08:32. > :08:38.those is Matthew Barrett from Llanrwst who has brought 22 chickens

:08:38. > :08:47.to the show this year to compete. am originally from carbon. I have

:08:47. > :08:56.got about 100 birds where I live now. Mostly they are chicks, growing

:08:56. > :09:00.up but I do love my hobby. It is the main part of my life, the birds. My

:09:00. > :09:06.grandad, my mother 's father, started when they moved to Wales

:09:06. > :09:09.when my mum was seven. When I was born and growing up, I just got

:09:09. > :09:14.interested with grandad in the poultry, when I started showing

:09:14. > :09:18.them, I started of there. I have carried on because I know he would

:09:18. > :09:24.be very proud of what I am achieving still now. It is thanks to him and

:09:24. > :09:29.by mother. To me it is not the winning, it is taking part. It is

:09:30. > :09:38.just to meet new people and getting new juveniles, if they were to hand,

:09:38. > :09:44.you are there to help fund. -- if they want a hand. Here they are. How

:09:44. > :09:50.confident are you feeling? Half and half. It depends on the judge on the

:09:50. > :09:55.day, but the weather, we have put them down because of the hot

:09:56. > :10:02.weather. I have five different breeds today. Which one will clinch

:10:02. > :10:12.the rise? This is my best breed. I have been showing the Germans since

:10:12. > :10:14.

:10:14. > :10:19.1987. A German Lancashire?Yes. He has nice feathers, nice shine to the

:10:19. > :10:25.feathers, and a nice type, when you look at a German you should look at

:10:25. > :10:35.a wine glass shape, the legs should be like a stem. I have never heard

:10:35. > :10:36.

:10:36. > :10:46.of a chick being described as a wine glass! That is the phrase we use.

:10:46. > :10:54.

:10:54. > :11:03.Good luck! We will see how you get got the best Belgian, her sister got

:11:03. > :11:07.third. The white Japanese, we had best of breed. Another first. Second

:11:07. > :11:16.and third with the Belgian males. Over here, best of breed again, and

:11:16. > :11:25.the German Lancashire, the one we saw today, I had best of breed.

:11:25. > :11:30.must be doing something right! flocked to the show here at

:11:30. > :11:34.Llanelwedd, some have even called it the welcoming heart of Wales but,

:11:34. > :11:44.but strange as it may seem there are people who have never had the

:11:44. > :11:52.

:11:52. > :11:55.virginity to walk this hallowed Port Talbot. I am a student at

:11:55. > :12:03.Swansea which a bulletin university, going into my third

:12:03. > :12:09.year. I have got for jobs, for part-time jobs that keep me busy. I

:12:09. > :12:13.am a former Miss Wales. I am Miss Wales 2011 and I am absolutely in

:12:14. > :12:23.love with Wales, everything about it. I am so patriotically and so

:12:24. > :12:29.

:12:29. > :12:35.looking forward to going to the the Royal Welsh, know their role

:12:35. > :12:42.that of animals and I know it is -- I thought it was towards McCants

:12:42. > :12:46.left but apparently not. I hope I don't get lost on the way! I hear

:12:46. > :12:54.there is a lot of nice food, and I'm really good at eating so I think I

:12:54. > :12:58.will enjoy that, tasting BeeGees and cakes and hopefully sweets! --

:12:58. > :13:02.tasting the cheese. There are animals competing, that is kind of

:13:02. > :13:09.like what I do, so it is kind of like the Miss Wales of the animal

:13:09. > :13:15.world! It will be good, it will be exciting, looking forward to it. I

:13:15. > :13:19.would most like to see the animals, because I absolutely love any

:13:19. > :13:26.animal, I'm quite of big animals like cows coming towards me, at

:13:26. > :13:31.quite a fast pace. That will be fun. I have never been in a tractor. It

:13:31. > :13:41.is something I have wanted to do, to try for a while. That will be

:13:41. > :13:44.

:13:44. > :13:48.something else ticked off my list, I to the show! If you would like to

:13:48. > :13:56.find out what she thought of the Royal Welsh, we will be meeting her

:13:57. > :14:06.tomorrow night. On Tuesday, Rachel made sure she saw one of her

:14:07. > :14:14.

:14:14. > :14:17.has to be the chief team of five. Murray, you are a Hereford farmer.

:14:17. > :14:22.And you farm in the Canterbury region of the South Island. So you

:14:22. > :14:27.have had a long trip? What does it mean to you to be judging here at

:14:27. > :14:34.The Royal Welsh. A real honour. When I got the invitation, I couldn't

:14:34. > :14:39.believe it. And, you know, so proud to be here judging this prestigious

:14:39. > :14:49.event. You are a Hereford man but there's not going to be any

:14:49. > :14:51.

:14:51. > :14:55.favouritism today, is there? No. Joining me to enjoy this magnificent

:14:55. > :15:02.spectacle is Bernard. We have 14 teams competing but is it fair to

:15:02. > :15:05.say this is more of a display than a competition? I suppose it is what is

:15:05. > :15:12.known as corporate image, because many come here to show the best of

:15:12. > :15:18.their particular breed. Because it is hard to put one breed against

:15:18. > :15:22.another. A continental and a native, for example. It is one of my pet

:15:22. > :15:26.hates. By hate judging one against the other. But those cattle are

:15:26. > :15:30.doing quite different jobs so you are almost looking for something

:15:30. > :15:34.completely different from one breed to the next. Probably some of the

:15:34. > :15:37.best cattle in the world are in this ring at the very moment. They are

:15:37. > :15:44.not therefore their own gratification, they are there for

:15:44. > :15:54.the gratification of the breed. And that, to me, is what is so special

:15:54. > :16:13.

:16:13. > :16:18.winner on the day... And I have between the cement tower and the

:16:18. > :16:23.Charolais. Two very good breeds. For me, I would agree with him. There

:16:24. > :16:33.was more breed in the winning team. Not an easy thing to do, that

:16:33. > :16:37.balance, in the Charolais. Superb team, excellent cattle. Very well

:16:38. > :16:44.balanced. Well done! Brilliant! You must be thrilled! Absolutely

:16:44. > :16:49.delighted! To come to The Royal Welsh and when, it is what we all

:16:49. > :16:56.strive for. It really is. It's a major achievement. Not only for

:16:56. > :17:01.individuals but for the breed as a whole. It has been a highlight of my

:17:01. > :17:06.judging career, I would say. You did an excellent job. It has been lovely

:17:06. > :17:09.to meet you. I'm about to meet one half of a

:17:09. > :17:14.husband and wife team who both share a love of Welsh horses but their

:17:14. > :17:24.love does not stick to one breed. Sian and David Morris from

:17:24. > :17:24.

:17:24. > :17:31.Aberystwyth both favoured different types of Welsh pony. So, David, what

:17:31. > :17:40.was it about the section Cs that appeal to you? Well, back in the 70s

:17:40. > :17:46.we bought a filly and from then on, we have had to lovely fillies, one

:17:46. > :17:50.that won three times. You are very much a section C and section A

:17:50. > :17:54.family, because right now Sian is showing her section A. And in a

:17:54. > :17:58.minute you will be in the ring with Gucci. It will be a strange

:17:58. > :18:02.experience, in a way, because last year you were judging and this year

:18:03. > :18:08.you are competing. How will it be to be competing against amongst those

:18:08. > :18:15.-- amongst those you place last year? This is the best place in the

:18:15. > :18:21.world. Words cannot describe it. Judging is electrifying. Judging is

:18:21. > :18:25.a huge honour because it is nothing like competing. How do you think you

:18:25. > :18:35.will do? As long as he behaves himself, everything else is a bonus,

:18:35. > :18:36.

:18:36. > :18:45.really. After that, it is the lot of luck. And lock was certainly on

:18:45. > :18:52.Sian's side. She came first with her section A pony, Fire's Still My

:18:52. > :19:02.Sunshine. It seems silly to ask you how you are feeling. You must be

:19:02. > :19:03.

:19:03. > :19:06.elated. Yes!Did you feel confident going in? Not at all!She is

:19:06. > :19:16.obviously a star quality. You must be doing something right. Do you

:19:16. > :19:26.think so? Yes! Let's hope David De John -- does just as well. A

:19:26. > :19:27.

:19:27. > :19:33.fantastic result for you. Thank you. And David's Gucci did match Sian's

:19:33. > :19:39.success, coming first in his class. How did Gucci enjoy himself out

:19:39. > :19:49.there? He enjoyed himself. He did a full show. I'm very, very pleased he

:19:49. > :19:50.

:19:50. > :19:54.did it in his class. He did it as a yearling. It is fantastic. In last

:19:54. > :19:58.night's programme we met a young lady who was very excited to be

:19:58. > :20:05.coming to The Royal Welsh for the very first time. So, the past Miss

:20:05. > :20:12.Wales winner from Port Talbot, Sara Manchipp. Welcome to The Royal

:20:12. > :20:17.Welsh! Thank you! What do you think so far? I love it! So many things to

:20:17. > :20:23.do, so many things to look at. And I'm excited because I've never been

:20:23. > :20:28.so I'd want to waste any time. let's not waste any time! Because

:20:28. > :20:36.you said you wanted to get a tractor. There is one right behind

:20:36. > :20:43.you! What about driving to the corner shop in this bad boy? Do you

:20:43. > :20:49.like shopping, Sara? I do. It is one of my favourite things to do.

:20:49. > :20:59.show you a vintage piece of Welsh fashion. What do you reckon? I like

:20:59. > :20:59.

:20:59. > :21:09.it in pink! Let's see if they have one for you. Let's try a cowboy hat.

:21:09. > :21:24.

:21:24. > :21:33.This would look good in the tractor, feels really nice. It's really

:21:33. > :21:38.therapeutic! Well, Sara, let me introduce you to one of this year's

:21:38. > :21:43.celebrities. You might be won but this is another. He is a Charolais

:21:43. > :21:52.bull. Isn't he enormous? He is the biggest ball I've ever seen in my

:21:52. > :21:58.life! Would it surprise you if I'd told you he was bought for 70,000?

:21:58. > :22:02.Wow! That is a not for a burger, isn't it? He's not going to get

:22:02. > :22:11.eaten today! He is lush! He is definitely my highlight. By love

:22:11. > :22:16.him. What we have to do now is find you a farmer! Yes, I could read my

:22:16. > :22:26.husband! I'm glad you've enjoyed it. You going to come back next year?

:22:26. > :22:27.

:22:27. > :22:32.Definitely. Thank you. Red ribbons, red rosettes, silver

:22:32. > :22:42.cups. You would expect all of that at an agricultural show. But at this

:22:42. > :22:42.

:22:42. > :22:50.show, they are fighting for the experience and the local club here,

:22:50. > :22:56.the judo club, has enjoyed many successes in the past. So, Richard,

:22:56. > :23:02.a judo club. Is it popular? Very popular in mid Wales. We have places

:23:02. > :23:06.from the age of five upwards and we have a young lady representing Great

:23:06. > :23:13.Britain at the World Championships in Rio in August. And she started

:23:13. > :23:19.here. So you have some real success stories already? Yes. We had a man

:23:19. > :23:24.at the Commonwealth Games and we have another lady going to the

:23:24. > :23:30.Commonwealth Games. It fluctuates but we have been going for quite a

:23:30. > :23:36.long time now and one of the oldest clubs. You have been at it quite

:23:36. > :23:42.some time. Was it the 1970s you started? Yes. With straw mats with

:23:42. > :23:49.wood along the edges! And poor facilities. We are very lucky now

:23:49. > :23:54.without sports centre. I've seen you have some young members here today.

:23:54. > :24:02.Any of these guys going to be able to teach me a couple of moves?

:24:02. > :24:11.think we can do that. Let's have a go! I thought you would! Here we go.

:24:11. > :24:18.So, my looking OK? Yes. We will rough you up if we can! So, I'd push

:24:18. > :24:25.you with my elbow... Come and have another go. I think we will get you

:24:25. > :24:31.somebody at a bit more your size. Definitely! Either young lady for

:24:31. > :24:39.you. I'm sure you will do well. Be gentle with him! Are you sure you

:24:39. > :24:49.are ready for this? OK, right! Oh, no! I think I'm going to leave it to

:24:49. > :24:49.

:24:49. > :24:55.the professionals. Levelled! Is he all right? She didn't even check if

:24:55. > :24:59.I was still alive! Did you notice? Thank you.

:24:59. > :25:03.Here at the show, looking after your animals is a big responsibility and

:25:03. > :25:11.a lot of hard work, and the sheep section is no exception. But imagine

:25:11. > :25:16.if you are showing sheep and running a trade stand? Then the going gets

:25:16. > :25:20.really tough. Chris Brooks is showing four sheep at the show this

:25:20. > :25:24.year and competing for the third time but he'll so has his own

:25:24. > :25:30.renewable energy company, and is here with a stand. So he is juggling

:25:30. > :25:36.two jobs at the show. Hello, Chris. Hard at work! How on earth do you

:25:36. > :25:41.juggle showing sheep and being on a stand? It is not a juggle, it is a

:25:41. > :25:46.joy! But you have to run. The cause, you know, I've been down there this

:25:46. > :25:52.morning and we have customers. -- because. We will be back down this

:25:52. > :25:58.afternoon. And, yes, it is great fun. You are about to compete in the

:25:58. > :26:03.theme classes. Why did you go for this Welsh breed? When I've retired

:26:03. > :26:10.from engineering, I spent a lot of time looking at sheep. Now, the one

:26:10. > :26:16.guy was looking at are ugly and much too expensive! Say that quietly,

:26:16. > :26:20.Chris! And there are others where I can't pronounce their names I'd try

:26:20. > :26:26.to find a breed that was up-and-coming. And I love these.

:26:26. > :26:31.what does this show mean to you? is difficult to say because you keep

:26:31. > :26:38.coming back. You wonder why but you do. I've think it is the most unique

:26:38. > :26:41.privilege to be here and I can't tell you. There hasn't been a better

:26:41. > :26:49.show for making friends, the atmosphere, the Ireland, and it is

:26:49. > :26:54.just so much fun. -- the environment. The classes were

:26:54. > :26:59.particularly well attended. No rosettes for Chris this time but it

:26:59. > :27:04.is not all about the winning. show they told me it would take me

:27:04. > :27:09.five years to get a ribbon. Three years down, statistically I'm

:27:09. > :27:14.getting closer! So I've got two more years and I will be there. It is all

:27:14. > :27:19.about trying and coming here. You bring your own stock, you land them,

:27:19. > :27:25.you look after them, you bring them, and I'm proud of them. I

:27:25. > :27:32.really am. And you wouldn't have missed it for anything? No! I

:27:32. > :27:36.wouldn't. I will be here next year. The food hall here is the home to

:27:36. > :27:41.some of the best food and drink in the country. Also some businesses

:27:41. > :27:48.are represented, big and small. One is a bakery with a husband and wife

:27:48. > :27:53.team. Sam and his wife run this small

:27:53. > :27:57.bakery by the side of their house, where they bake various pastries,

:27:57. > :28:04.pies and cakes for their customers. But the story of how they started is

:28:04. > :28:11.quite an interesting one. What a good idea. Shall I'd try a

:28:11. > :28:15.bit? Delicious! Sam, tell me, how did your bakery come about? About

:28:15. > :28:21.six years ago, our son was involved in a cycling accident and was badly

:28:21. > :28:24.hurt. He is a shift by trade. He came home. After a few months we

:28:24. > :28:31.thought it would be best if he got himself a job and it would be a good

:28:31. > :28:36.idea if he could start his own company. How is he now?He is

:28:36. > :28:42.absolutely fine now. Good.We started with the baked goods.

:28:42. > :28:46.Pastis, quiches, sausage rolls. And we thought we would go for something

:28:46. > :28:49.different so we looked around and started to invent our own fillings.

:28:49. > :28:56.So we went for butternut squash and Cheddar, which is one of our

:28:56. > :29:01.vegetarian options. Tell me what you are doing here. You have some

:29:01. > :29:06.different things you have brought to the show. We have brought Spanish

:29:06. > :29:11.chicken, which we see here with new potatoes, which is a mix of chicken

:29:11. > :29:18.breast and chorizo sausage. We have Moroccan lamb with chickpeas, which

:29:18. > :29:23.you see here with Kursk is. And we also have this as well, which has a

:29:23. > :29:28.mix of two cheeses in it. So they are already very simple recipes but

:29:28. > :29:38.very, very tasty. Well, it sounds as though you are both very busy, so

:29:38. > :29:47.

:29:47. > :29:53.good luck. we still had plenty to to-do including catching up with the

:29:53. > :30:01.young farmers. Here in the young farmers section, there is a myriad

:30:01. > :30:05.of competitions available to members aged between ten and 26 including

:30:05. > :30:13.stock judging, even rugby. There is one competition everyone will want

:30:13. > :30:19.to win, the tug-of-war! Training has been constant and hard for months as

:30:19. > :30:28.I found out when I went to the small rural village in Montgomeryshire on

:30:29. > :30:33.Sunday evening. I am a novice, what is this all about? It is quite a

:30:33. > :30:39.competitive sport, it consists of about eight members and coach on

:30:39. > :30:42.each team, it is about who has the most strength and stamina. We train

:30:42. > :30:48.about three times a week, it is safer, because not having the right

:30:48. > :30:53.training, not doing it the right way can cause a lot of injury, back

:30:54. > :31:03.strain, and calls everything. We need to warm up a bit, bit of a joke

:31:03. > :31:05.to get our muscles ready. -- a jogger. You are the team leader,

:31:05. > :31:11.what is the most important thing I should know about the tug-of-war

:31:11. > :31:18.technique? You have to keep your body angle straight all the time,

:31:18. > :31:28.not bend over, keep your heels on the floor and get the maximum grip.

:31:28. > :31:39.

:31:39. > :31:44.As you will see, these boots get a than it looks, I can tell you. I

:31:44. > :31:48.caught up with you two weeks ago, how has the training been going?

:31:48. > :31:54.has been OK, not been the best of whether to be training. This is just

:31:54. > :32:04.to say who is in the team, because for the girls, the maximum weight is

:32:04. > :32:04.

:32:04. > :32:11.580 and for the boys it's 680. you confident? If we come off the

:32:11. > :32:19.right feeling happy, we can't ask for more. Come on! There will be

:32:19. > :32:29.hell to pay if the girls win. not having that! Confident?Hundred

:32:29. > :32:42.

:32:42. > :32:45.because they were the heaviest team to qualify and they were gutted. But

:32:45. > :32:52.great news for the girls, they came in third overall and well over the

:32:52. > :32:58.moon. Third-place? Yes! Better than we thought. The first time we have

:32:59. > :33:06.pulled as well. Congratulations, amazing achievement. You are not

:33:06. > :33:12.going to have a go now? We have seen some fantastic examples of dairy

:33:12. > :33:18.cows over the years that have gone on to begin to did among the best in

:33:18. > :33:24.the world today it is about finding out which will be counted the

:33:24. > :33:30.supreme champion. This year there is a new breed of vying for top

:33:31. > :33:38.honours. The Brown Swiss first came to the UK 40 years ago and that

:33:38. > :33:44.anniversary is being marked with a first appearance at the Royal Welsh.

:33:44. > :33:48.We started about five years ago, we needed something better quality

:33:48. > :33:56.milk, they are very, very calm, quiet and docile animals, lovely to

:33:57. > :34:02.deal with. The breed celebrates 40 years in the UK, had timely!

:34:02. > :34:08.Definitely. The pre-festival at so much over the years, now the breed

:34:08. > :34:13.has developed so much, it is so nice to see them here. You are presenting

:34:13. > :34:23.the breed, you made it through to the final. How does that feel? It is

:34:23. > :34:38.

:34:38. > :34:41.the ship is you when Thomas, a breeder and qualifier. This is the

:34:41. > :34:49.highlight. This is where the cream rises to the top. We have some

:34:49. > :34:59.phenomenal cows in there today. This cow is on 12 o'clock. The Ayrshire

:34:59. > :35:06.

:35:06. > :35:09.cow is a great example. We have a thought there were three fantastic

:35:09. > :35:16.cows and he had a really hard decision to make as to where it

:35:16. > :35:23.went. Congratulations. Not the first time you have one here. No, it has

:35:23. > :35:29.been for five years, but a special occasion, I wanted to win. The jab

:35:29. > :35:34.sugars over, howdy you think the cow did? I think she did really well,

:35:34. > :35:44.she held her own, it is really in to see the breed there. Back again with

:35:44. > :35:47.

:35:47. > :35:51.the Brown Swiss next year? of different breeds of all things

:35:51. > :36:01.furry and feathery, most of which were their own breed society. Up

:36:01. > :36:04.until this year one breed of duck, the Harlequin, didn't have one. The

:36:04. > :36:14.main menu set the Harlequin duck society this year is recently

:36:14. > :36:15.

:36:15. > :36:20.willing. One publicity -- competitor is J. How did you get on? In the

:36:20. > :36:26.Welsh Harlequin class who came first, second and third and our

:36:26. > :36:31.winning Harlequin duck also took the best tale. What level of preparation

:36:31. > :36:36.goes into showing these ducks? ducks are fairly simple to prepare,

:36:36. > :36:41.we give them some clean bathing water and they do it themselves.

:36:41. > :36:48.Just wipe them over, check they aren't muddy when they get here.

:36:48. > :36:55.Tell them the about this breed. is connected with my native county,

:36:55. > :36:59.they were bred in England, by a guy called Captain Barnett, then he

:36:59. > :37:04.moved over to North Wales, he has decided to rename them Welsh

:37:04. > :37:11.harlequins. Then he started selling eggs all over the world, they were

:37:11. > :37:16.exported to America. Lots of people breeding them? They are considered a

:37:16. > :37:21.rare breed. Myself and a colleague established the Welsh Harlequin

:37:21. > :37:28.society and launched the website here in the spring fair, and by now

:37:28. > :37:30.we have about 55 members who have joined. I can see what you set it

:37:30. > :37:40.up, they are fantastic, congratulations, you must be

:37:40. > :37:42.

:37:42. > :37:46.exciting part of the show, the sheep against the clock, the crowd whipped

:37:46. > :37:56.into a frenzy by individuals who definitely have the gift of the gab.

:37:56. > :37:58.

:37:58. > :38:06.and the hum of the machines but we don't often see them. But today we

:38:06. > :38:10.will meet three of them -- two of them, both big characters. You are

:38:10. > :38:16.the best commentators on the show. You really whip the crowd into a

:38:16. > :38:23.frenzy, how do you do that? It is not through preparation as you

:38:23. > :38:28.thought, it is whatever comes into my head at the time it back he is

:38:28. > :38:34.going back to start any day, down the line he goes. You do go quite

:38:34. > :38:38.close to the line! I do get a slap on the wrist every now and again

:38:38. > :38:48.from some members of the committee, but you have got to have a bit of

:38:48. > :38:49.

:38:49. > :38:52.fun. That is sharing, ladies and gentlemen. Everybody here knows

:38:53. > :38:59.about sharing, from my point of view it is all about obtaining that

:38:59. > :39:06.crowd. If I can put the crypt 's -- smile on people 's faces, that is my

:39:06. > :39:12.job done. Look at him go now! Daniel is going to show us magic now.

:39:12. > :39:16.is the secret to really good commentary? You have to inform these

:39:17. > :39:20.shearers, because they have won it to what I am saying. If they are

:39:20. > :39:25.behind they want to know they are so they can get stuck in. That is the

:39:25. > :39:35.way it is. I am then informing the public, try and keep them involved

:39:35. > :39:49.

:39:49. > :39:59.at all! He goes in for his next one! They are really flying! We have got

:39:59. > :40:06.

:40:06. > :40:12.Daniel down there! Who is it going worked almost as hard as these

:40:12. > :40:16.shearers themselves. No, I have the easy job. It is like running a

:40:16. > :40:23.marathon back to do 20 sheep, we have the easy job. What do you think

:40:23. > :40:29.of the crowd? Fantastic, if you can get them lifted, it makes our job

:40:29. > :40:33.easier. Who is going to be the champion shearer in Wales?

:40:33. > :40:40.wouldn't like to say but I would love to be my nephew, obviously! You

:40:40. > :40:50.have got the best in Wales there. wasn't Steve 's and this time, the

:40:50. > :40:52.

:40:52. > :40:58.2013 championship of Wales was took centre stage. I caught up with

:40:58. > :41:04.Andrew Thomas as he was preparing to compete. With brought our

:41:04. > :41:10.six-year-old to come, he won two years ago. They are big part of my

:41:10. > :41:14.life. I live in an industrial area, a mining and steel community, far

:41:14. > :41:18.from farming and agricultural. Although they have not been any

:41:18. > :41:28.immediate whores, I have ever loved them since I was a young child. --

:41:28. > :41:28.

:41:28. > :41:32.immediate horses. I showed them... Thanks a lot. And the result, a

:41:32. > :41:41.creditable third in a strong class. And a first for her fall. The

:41:41. > :41:48.winner, however was owned by Mr and Mrs Hughes of agenda. -- Bridgend.

:41:48. > :41:54.The main ring is alive with anticipation, compared -- competing

:41:54. > :41:58.for the Prince of Wales cup. The grandstand is brimming and the

:41:58. > :42:03.excitement is electrifying. With me now is John Llewellyn James, a

:42:03. > :42:07.family lawyer by profession originally from Haverfordwest and a

:42:07. > :42:12.past winner. You know all about taking part in this. Tell me about

:42:12. > :42:16.the stage is living up to the Prince of Wales cup. It will restart years

:42:17. > :42:23.before you turn up here, you work out what your best stallions and

:42:23. > :42:33.mayors are. We are watching the senior stallions? Which sections of

:42:33. > :42:33.

:42:33. > :42:39.a running? One of the favourites, standing on top. Standing in second

:42:39. > :42:42.is this one, I didn't tip him to be in the first three but he is a

:42:42. > :42:52.pathetic runner, he has caught the public? Eye, they have given him a

:42:52. > :42:53.

:42:53. > :43:00.great cheer and clearly he has done well. She has made her decision, she

:43:00. > :43:08.has gone with this one. You were right! One of the few predictions I

:43:08. > :43:13.have done that has come right. have the junior stallion up against

:43:13. > :43:23.the senior one. I'm sure he's going to beat the junior selling, he's the

:43:23. > :43:25.

:43:25. > :43:32.favourite. Yes!You are right, well done. Next, the George, Prince of

:43:32. > :43:42.Wales cup. Mayor versus stallion. This is a nail-biting moment. Here

:43:42. > :44:06.

:44:06. > :44:13.she is. Her mother has one here and now. Are they standing square? One

:44:13. > :44:23.has moved their leg. Get the leg back! Wow! Black Harry... He has

:44:23. > :44:27.

:44:27. > :44:37.won. Well, OK! Boys rule!Next time, next time! That is a fantastic

:44:37. > :44:40.result. Youths were the board. put it into words. It is emotional.

:44:40. > :44:48.-- I cannot put it. My dad was going to buy this stallion before he

:44:48. > :44:53.passed away. My son had told me the story that he was going to buy the

:44:53. > :44:57.horse and then I bought him, so it is a fairytale. You've come again

:44:57. > :45:07.and swept the boards again. We are so pleased for you. Well done.

:45:07. > :45:15.

:45:15. > :45:22.favourite creatures in the pet section of the further and further

:45:22. > :45:25.pavilion. We are used to seeing all things

:45:25. > :45:35.very on a Thursday here with special emphasis on the guinea pig, so when

:45:35. > :45:38.

:45:38. > :45:44.I've found these are got well all things creepy and Crawley.

:45:44. > :45:50.Couldn't believe my eyes when I came across a royal python, a leopard

:45:50. > :46:00.gecko and a Chilean Rose Chuen chiller. All owned by this man. Why

:46:00. > :46:00.

:46:00. > :46:04.was looking around. This is Pascal. He is only a baby and he has just

:46:04. > :46:10.competed here today in the adult owned of the pet section. He didn't

:46:10. > :46:20.get placed but good news for Sky. The gecko. She won her class. And

:46:20. > :46:20.

:46:20. > :46:24.the tarantula came second. Do you have a favourite? I shouldn't ask!

:46:24. > :46:33.do love Pascal. He likes being handled and he is very inquisitive

:46:33. > :46:36.as well. You have brought guinea pigs with you today? I have. Seven

:46:36. > :46:46.of them! They vary from rough haired, smooth coated and

:46:46. > :46:47.

:46:47. > :46:52.long-haired. You have come in, Mikaela, with a giant African land

:46:52. > :47:01.snails. This is a giant millipede. It looks like one of the Mombasa

:47:01. > :47:06.trains eyesore in Africa. This is a fully grown millipede. It has to be

:47:06. > :47:10.the righty of classes that brings me here because IM into such a wide

:47:10. > :47:20.variety of animals. Coming here to a show like this with such a variety

:47:20. > :47:25.of animals, you can't miss it. did you do overall? The snails came

:47:25. > :47:29.third, my hamster got best hamster, my rabbit won his class and then I

:47:29. > :47:34.have a couple of guinea pigs who came second in their classes.

:47:34. > :47:44.you've had a great day? It's been a lovely day! I'm glad you've enjoyed

:47:44. > :47:48.

:47:48. > :47:52.your visit. You still have a couple Although it is the last morning of

:47:52. > :47:56.the show, there is no chance for our next competitors to start winding

:47:56. > :48:02.down because they are going full force into the Welsh part bred class

:48:02. > :48:11.here in the main ring. Cathy and her family team have been competing for

:48:11. > :48:18.20 years. However, there is one pony lucky to be competing today.

:48:18. > :48:22.We are showing a yearling colt. A yearling part bred. He is called

:48:22. > :48:27.Latif. He was an orphan and we reared him on a bottle. His mum died

:48:27. > :48:32.when he was ten days old. So we reared him on formula milk, if you

:48:32. > :48:36.like. The same as you would give to a baby, only specially made for

:48:36. > :48:42.false. It was hard work. Every hour with a bottle of milk! Night and

:48:42. > :48:47.day! That was for a week. And then extend the period of time between

:48:47. > :48:52.the feeds. But during that time we managed to get another mayor to

:48:52. > :48:55.auntie him, if you like, to keep him in his place. Because of an false

:48:55. > :48:59.that bottle-fed tend to get boisterous and they don't have a

:49:00. > :49:08.mother to tell them what is right or wrong. So rather than keeping

:49:08. > :49:14.isolated and turn him out -- we turned him out with his auntie,

:49:14. > :49:19.Okey-dokey. We're just hoping if he behaves, because he is a tiny bit

:49:19. > :49:25.hormonal at the moment, just like adolescent boy, full of

:49:25. > :49:34.testosterone... If we can control him and he has got a good head on

:49:34. > :49:40.him, we are hopeful he might do Well, it must be nerve wracking for

:49:40. > :49:47.you to be here ringside, watching him perform. How is he doing?

:49:47. > :49:51.Welcomer he is very well-behaved. looks very calm so far. The judges

:49:51. > :49:58.are now judging his confirmation and he will trot away and trot back to

:49:58. > :50:08.make sure he moves straight. What is the worst thing he do? Jump on top

:50:08. > :50:25.

:50:25. > :50:28.of the judge! He is really we are in third place this morning.

:50:28. > :50:38.That is very creditable. We are very happy because he has behaved

:50:38. > :50:39.

:50:39. > :50:47.himself. Yes, family friend Rebecca kept a tight rein on Latty. The

:50:47. > :50:51.winner was owned by a Mrs Edwards. Yesterday we brought you the Welsh

:50:51. > :50:59.Cob Championship but at the same time, I was keeping denied on the

:50:59. > :51:02.Champion of Champions in the sheep ring. -- keeping an eye.

:51:02. > :51:07.When you bring your sheep to The Royal Welsh Show there is only one

:51:07. > :51:11.titled you dream of winning. The Sheep Champion of Champions. The

:51:12. > :51:15.standard of the 45 different breeds being presented in the sheep ring is

:51:15. > :51:22.top class. And one of the few people with experience of winning this

:51:22. > :51:25.prestigious title in the past is Martin. Back in 2009, Martin won the

:51:25. > :51:34.championship with his Hampshire down ram. His winning streak continues

:51:34. > :51:40.because this year, he won the doctor ever at MS -- Evans award. Martyn,

:51:40. > :51:46.when you think it comes from 3,000 sheep just a one, it is such an

:51:46. > :51:51.honour, isn't it? Yes. It really meant the world to us. It is a great

:51:51. > :51:55.shop window when you come to sell your stock afterwards as well.

:51:55. > :52:00.judge has her work cut out for her this afternoon. What are they

:52:00. > :52:07.looking for? They are looking for a powerful sheep but a correct

:52:07. > :52:15.powerful sheep. Good teeth, good legs. Martin, we have our finalists.

:52:15. > :52:25.Yes. They start on the Hill, go to the Continental and then the

:52:25. > :52:30.

:52:30. > :52:40.lowland. If I were a betting man, my money would go on this. Martin, you

:52:40. > :52:40.

:52:40. > :52:49.were bang on. She is a lovely sheep so well-deserved. So the Charolais

:52:49. > :52:57.is Champion of Champions. Congratulations from more than 3,000

:52:57. > :53:06.sheep to one! What does it mean? means everything to us. A great

:53:06. > :53:10.feeling to be the one left standing, so very chuffed. And you have come

:53:10. > :53:14.down from Aberdeenshire? Yes. And we will be back down to do it next

:53:14. > :53:19.year. This is my favourite part of the week. The competitions have come

:53:19. > :53:26.to an end and it is time to crown a winner but who will take it? That is

:53:26. > :53:29.the question. Firstly the winner of the rhythm championship will be

:53:29. > :53:33.chosen and go head-to-head to compete for the supreme title, and

:53:33. > :53:40.judging these competitions will be none other than 2012 Olympic

:53:40. > :53:45.dressage gold medal winner Carl Hester. Carl, a very warm welcome to

:53:45. > :53:49.the Welsh show. It is your first visit? Yes. And I'm going to be

:53:49. > :53:54.really looking forward to judging this. The lucky thing for me is that

:53:54. > :54:04.the waters and ponies coming forward are already champions, so it is just

:54:04. > :54:04.

:54:04. > :54:08.going to be down to my preference. -- the horses. I am joined

:54:08. > :54:18.ringside. You certainly know what you are looking at. We are looking

:54:18. > :54:19.

:54:19. > :54:29.at the cuddy. Which warses have caught your eye? -- horsees?

:54:29. > :54:32.

:54:32. > :54:38.coloured horse Willie does move. The Welsh section, obviously, as you got

:54:38. > :54:42.to be loyal to your country and Diane Welsh. Let's see who makes it.

:54:42. > :54:52.And Carl Hester has made his decision. He's gone for the little

:54:52. > :54:58.

:54:58. > :55:05.Charlie section mayor. -- section C horse. Yes. She is really beautiful.

:55:05. > :55:10.Which of these ponies now stands out for you? Well, the Welsh cob has a

:55:10. > :55:14.fantastic gallop so that will take some beating. Two lead ponies here

:55:14. > :55:24.are stunning. Fantastically turned out. A very strong competition but

:55:24. > :55:32.

:55:32. > :55:41.if had to pick one today so far, it championship. It is Material Girl.

:55:41. > :55:50.She did a fantastic show. And the little dark horse came in reserve.

:55:50. > :55:54.The winner of the in hand cuddy championship, with 15-year-old

:55:54. > :56:04.section mayor, was brought back to compete against Helsing turned

:56:04. > :56:04.

:56:05. > :56:14.Material Girl And Pump Held Buckthorn. And it was the section C

:56:15. > :56:19.

:56:19. > :56:25.mayor. Some Old Lady Lillian. She crowned section champion. She has

:56:25. > :56:30.taken the title for Wales and she deserves it. Yes, I think she

:56:30. > :56:35.probably does. And this is the little was animal who has won the

:56:36. > :56:45.crown today. Kate, you must be very proud. I am very proud but I think

:56:46. > :56:46.

:56:46. > :56:51.he is even more proud over here! What a wonderful story. She is quite

:56:51. > :57:01.small to come to the show because she was only born a short time ago.

:57:01. > :57:17.

:57:17. > :57:20.Well done. Fantastic result. Thank show, in its 50th year, here gave us

:57:20. > :57:25.four fabulous prize-winning days. We hope you have enjoyed it as much as
