:00:00. > :00:00.negotiation position has been made clear. Many people will think that

:00:00. > :00:00.is shocking news for business, large am particularly small, and bad news

:00:00. > :00:16.for families feeling the Brexit squeeze. Thank you.

:00:17. > :00:27.That shop is closed, for example. And this one? Betis the Fish bar.

:00:28. > :00:34.That opens at about 5pm. The owner of the fish bar came to see me and

:00:35. > :00:37.said, I am being put out of business by the fact that people cannot get

:00:38. > :00:40.to my fish bar in the evening because they are having to run the

:00:41. > :00:46.gauntlet with all the kids hanging around. He was very concerned. We

:00:47. > :01:00.did what we could. It is a fundamental issue with the fact...

:01:01. > :01:06.We are being watched. There is not one poop bid for dog disposal. We

:01:07. > :01:09.local businesses, my family own a local business and you always take

:01:10. > :01:14.the risk because the response rate from the police has massively slow

:01:15. > :01:20.down. Local businesses are so important in a city like

:01:21. > :01:24.Southampton, but as a local business owner, so many shops including me

:01:25. > :01:35.are finding it very difficult. We are prepared to spend more money on

:01:36. > :01:41.the police. If you have got more police on the beat in contact with

:01:42. > :01:45.the community, crime rates fall, businesses do better. It is a plus.

:01:46. > :01:50.With every arrest that the police eventually make, it costs a lot of

:01:51. > :01:55.money, potentially you have somebody in a young offenders' Institute or

:01:56. > :01:59.prison, it costs a lot of money every week. Investment in good

:02:00. > :02:05.community policing eventually saves a lot of money and creates a better

:02:06. > :02:08.atmosphere. If someone can't run his business because of kids outside,

:02:09. > :02:13.that is an example. You hear that all over the country where police

:02:14. > :02:23.and others have been cut. The police we have are amazing, we just more of

:02:24. > :02:31.them. Around here, this is a lifeline for the local community. We

:02:32. > :02:39.are a long way away from the big shopping centres and it is just so

:02:40. > :02:45.important. What is the level of car ownership? Relatively low compared

:02:46. > :02:49.to most of Southampton. So without a local shop... Tesco is down the

:02:50. > :02:52.road, but it is quite a way if you are elderly and there is not a

:02:53. > :03:03.direct bus from the estate to get there. This is the story across the

:03:04. > :03:07.whole country. Cut back on police, cutback in bus services, isolation

:03:08. > :03:11.of poorer working class communities, cannot get to the out-of-town

:03:12. > :03:16.shopping centres and so on. We need regeneration of these areas,

:03:17. > :03:27.communities where people live. If they cannot get there, they cannot

:03:28. > :03:38.get their food, they are starving. He has been in here for a long time,

:03:39. > :03:46.this man? I met him before that. These are such youngsters. He was

:03:47. > :03:51.the leader of the council. A Labour council and the Labour MP read good

:03:52. > :03:56.team. That is how it should be. Everybody needs to work together for

:03:57. > :04:01.the community. And you can be honest with each other... Oh, we are. If

:04:02. > :04:04.people think you are going wrong, say something. I realise the

:04:05. > :04:09.problems that the council has because the budget is cut by the

:04:10. > :04:14.Government. That is what people need to understand. They are like, the

:04:15. > :04:19.council cut that. Look further, the Government cup that, the council

:04:20. > :04:25.cannot afford it, what can we do? If you follow the line and see who cut

:04:26. > :04:35.it originally... Are you a counsellor? Not yet. Are you going

:04:36. > :04:36.to be? Would you vote for her? She has voted for Allen for the first

:04:37. > :04:58.time. To you. Thank you for being here

:04:59. > :05:23.today. I expect to see bus stops, bigger car park. Bus seats.

:05:24. > :05:37.Just up there on Kendall Avenue. Has it got worse? We can hear our kids

:05:38. > :05:42.drinking and swearing. It's a question of police, opportunity,

:05:43. > :05:48.things for young people to do. It is a combination of everything. You got

:05:49. > :05:57.some good ideas on this, haven't you? Yes. More police would help. It

:05:58. > :06:06.would do. They don't often come round unless it is really bad. That

:06:07. > :06:14.is not a good sign. You need to see them all the time. And are you going

:06:15. > :06:23.to keep the triple lock? Absolutely. It is wrong it should ever be

:06:24. > :06:29.threatened at all. That's good. I can give you a sneak preview of that

:06:30. > :06:43.line of the manifesto, OK? You heard it first here. Thank you Mr Corbyn.

:06:44. > :06:47.Lovely to see you. Good to see you. Wasn't expecting it. I just came up

:06:48. > :07:02.to get the milk, I heard you were coming and I thought I would stay.

:07:03. > :07:22.Nice to meet you, and I shall be voting for you. Thank you very much.

:07:23. > :07:29.Would just get to go through here. -- we are just going to go through

:07:30. > :08:06.here. Over here. We just want to talk to things as

:08:07. > :08:14.they are today. Mr Corbyn, thank you for joining us. You are going to add

:08:15. > :08:24.10,000 more police officers on the street. How much will it cost? The

:08:25. > :08:29.hundred million. Thine Abbott got a bit confused on the radio earlier.

:08:30. > :08:34.She corrected the figure. It will be paid for by not going ahead with the

:08:35. > :08:43.cuts in capital gains tax. Isn't it embarrassing that she got it wrong?

:08:44. > :08:48.Absolutely not. She corrected the figure and it is absolutely clear.

:08:49. > :08:53.The cuts to capital gains tax that you would reverse, you say it would

:08:54. > :08:59.save ?2.7 billion, so money will be left over for other things as well.

:09:00. > :09:04.You talked about reversing cuts to disability benefits... Can I ask you

:09:05. > :09:08.to hold a little. The manifesto is not published yet. It will be

:09:09. > :09:13.published very soon. You will get all the commotion there. All of our

:09:14. > :09:17.proposals are costed and funded. John McDonnell promised to reverse

:09:18. > :09:24.cuts to disability benefits. I'm sure people will be interested to

:09:25. > :09:32.know if that will happen. It will be costed and funded, including what

:09:33. > :09:37.John McDonnell oppose. Teacher shortages, which you promised to pay

:09:38. > :09:41.for? It is all funded, don't worry about that. It's what we do as a

:09:42. > :09:49.nation. Do we cut police numbers put police back on the street? Do we

:09:50. > :09:53.support the CSOs or do we continue to see them reduce. The stories

:09:54. > :09:57.around here that people have told me is one that you can hear in any

:09:58. > :10:05.suburban every around the country where crime as increase, anti-social

:10:06. > :10:11.behaviour has increased through a combination of a lack of use centres

:10:12. > :10:15.and police only arriving when there is a serious incident. Under the

:10:16. > :10:24.previous Labour government, we have the CSO 's and safer neighbourhoods.

:10:25. > :10:27.Operation and respect for the police grew because they saw the police as

:10:28. > :10:31.a part of the community rather than just arriving when there is a big

:10:32. > :10:37.problem. This is an important development we are putting forward.

:10:38. > :10:44.There are new types of crime. Is this the best use of resources for

:10:45. > :10:49.bobbies on the beat? On the streets we don't want anti-social behaviour.

:10:50. > :10:54.We want people to behave properly and we want young people to have

:10:55. > :11:03.positive things to do. Looking at the number of youth services

:11:04. > :11:10.available, youth workers working for councils are important. Things like

:11:11. > :11:14.cybercrime are important. Here in Southampton, a student town,

:11:15. > :11:18.there are issues surrounding that there are issues surrounding that

:11:19. > :11:25.and the police are stretched. We'd just had the 20th anniversary of new

:11:26. > :11:32.Labour's landslide victory, are you taking up Tony Blair's Mansell of

:11:33. > :11:38.being tough on crime? I would say support for communities and bringing

:11:39. > :11:46.about a sense of involvement. It's not a sound bite like 1997. This is

:11:47. > :11:50.2017. I'm not really into sound bites. I'm much more into a thought

:11:51. > :11:55.process on these matters. That is not a criticism, by the way, in case

:11:56. > :12:01.you want to write a story on that. This is a seat you were hoping to

:12:02. > :12:06.keep, maybe pick-up some more in Southampton. It's quite modest

:12:07. > :12:10.event. Were you hoping for a bigger turnout? No, I came to talk to

:12:11. > :12:16.residents and that's what I've done. Sometimes when you meet a smaller

:12:17. > :12:21.number of people, you learn more. And 300 million is at the final

:12:22. > :12:31.answer as to the cost of extra police officers? Yes, but the third

:12:32. > :12:53.time. You did have two Labour MPs. What is Labour doing... INAUDIBLE.

:12:54. > :12:58.We need more police officers and we are hoping to put 10,000 more

:12:59. > :13:04.officers on the streets, which doesn't cover the cup that the

:13:05. > :13:08.Conservatives made of 20,000. The discussion I've had with residents,

:13:09. > :13:12.it's a combination of things. It's about police Deignan with reported

:13:13. > :13:15.crime and the presence on the street in the community which creates an

:13:16. > :13:24.atmosphere of greater cooperation with the police. Are you confident

:13:25. > :13:29.your message is getting through? You are not doing particularly well. Are

:13:30. > :13:34.you confident you can win the seats, seats like this? Yes, absolutely. I

:13:35. > :13:38.am travelling the whole country, talking to a lot of people. We are

:13:39. > :13:43.out on the streets every day talking to a lot of people. The other thing

:13:44. > :13:49.we are doing is listening to people. They are fed up with this whole

:13:50. > :13:52.process of austerity which cuts local government services, police

:13:53. > :13:57.officers, teacher numbers, creates a greater sense of disengagement with

:13:58. > :14:02.society. We had to reorder our business. We had to invest in

:14:03. > :14:06.people, investor the future. My final question. The Tories are

:14:07. > :14:10.saying your announcement this morning, 10,000 extra officers, that

:14:11. > :14:14.money is already spent elsewhere. What is your answer to Theresa May

:14:15. > :14:19.on that? Look at what we said rather than what you think we said and you

:14:20. > :14:23.will see that the money is there. All the proposals we have made are

:14:24. > :14:28.you. Thank you. If we could just set you. Thank you. If we could just set

:14:29. > :14:40.up shop for regional TV.
