:00:12. > :00:19.Today, we launched our manifesto in Bradford. That manifesto sets out a

:00:20. > :00:26.very clear path for this country. Either we can continue going down

:00:27. > :00:31.the road of low investment, greater inequality, greater poverty, more

:00:32. > :00:34.homeless people, more food banks, more debt, more young people

:00:35. > :00:38.underachieving, more schools where headteachers are told the solution

:00:39. > :00:44.to the problem is to collect from the parents to pay the teachers's

:00:45. > :00:49.salary, or we can do things differently we could instead say,

:00:50. > :00:56.95% of those will not pay any more in tax, VAT or National Insurance,

:00:57. > :00:59.but those with the broadest shoulders, will be asked to pay a

:01:00. > :01:08.little more. CHEERING

:01:09. > :01:12.So that we can establish a national investment bank to ensure a fairness

:01:13. > :01:20.of investment the manufacturing and service industries. An investor

:01:21. > :01:22.transport into structure but all parts of Britain, not just under the

:01:23. > :01:28.selfies. CHEERING

:01:29. > :01:32.I say that as someone who represents a London consistent. Bass macro not

:01:33. > :01:35.just London and the south-east. I understand the unfairness of all of

:01:36. > :01:41.this. Your rail lines need upgrading just like those all over the country

:01:42. > :01:46.do. That is why we will set up a national investment bank regionally

:01:47. > :01:48.based so there is a fairness in the distribution of those funds all over

:01:49. > :01:58.the country. CHEERING

:01:59. > :02:06.Then, you look at all the other things and issues we face,

:02:07. > :02:09.fundamentally are on the society. We are discovering a couple of

:02:10. > :02:14.subjects, in education I'm utterly fed up with the way in which school

:02:15. > :02:20.funding formulas is so unfair. It tends to be the poorer schools in

:02:21. > :02:22.the poorest places with the poorest children achieve the less because

:02:23. > :02:33.they received the least. CHEERING

:02:34. > :02:40.And so we will change that and ensure there was proper funding

:02:41. > :02:45.balls calls. And, -- proper funding for all schools. I want all our

:02:46. > :02:52.children to be properly fed. A child coming into school and we found it

:02:53. > :02:57.hard to concentrate and so is less likely to succeed in primary school.

:02:58. > :03:02.Leaving primary school without all the skills they should be equipped

:03:03. > :03:07.with, less likely to do well in secondary school, less likely to do

:03:08. > :03:13.a levels or any other qualification, less likely to go to college or

:03:14. > :03:19.university. That means a poor child growing up in poverty does not get

:03:20. > :03:24.to be the teacher, the engineer, the doctor, the lawyer or to achieve

:03:25. > :03:28.what they want in their lives. Two people lose because of that, one is

:03:29. > :03:33.that child who has not achieved what they want in life, their ambitions

:03:34. > :03:36.the other people who lose are all of ours.

:03:37. > :03:43.CHEERING Because I'm at that point child...

:03:44. > :03:49.-- that bright child did not get to be the doctor or lawyer or what they

:03:50. > :03:53.wanted to be. They underachieved in life. I'm utterly, utterly

:03:54. > :04:02.determined that we will fund our schools properly, pay our teachers

:04:03. > :04:08.probably. We will not force them to leave with stress levels that are

:04:09. > :04:13.unbearable. And we will make sure that every child gets a good lunch

:04:14. > :04:21.every day during primary school. CHEERING

:04:22. > :04:25.APPLAUSE And, I am sure you will agree with

:04:26. > :04:33.me that we'll share this, learning is about English, maths, science and

:04:34. > :04:39.geography and history. They are all crucial and important

:04:40. > :04:41.subjects, but it is also about unlocking the creativity and

:04:42. > :04:47.imagination that the... CHEERING

:04:48. > :04:51.It is about learning about our communities and our life. It is

:04:52. > :04:58.about being part of a wider community. The great African saying

:04:59. > :05:03.is, it takes a child to bring up... It takes a village to bring up a

:05:04. > :05:06.village. It takes a child educate a village.

:05:07. > :05:10.LAUGHTER That is the philosophy that will be behind it and I'm very proud

:05:11. > :05:17.of what we're doing there. Also, we're going to introduce pupils art

:05:18. > :05:19.premiums of every child in every school can learn a musical

:05:20. > :05:25.instrument. CHEERING

:05:26. > :05:28.APPLAUSE And before some incredible expat

:05:29. > :05:35.writer of one of broadsheet papers tells all this is in the Mee or

:05:36. > :05:40.necessary and excessive I would say this, you do well at music media

:05:41. > :05:43.were maths, you do well at music you do well at maths.

:05:44. > :05:51.They are not that far apart, science, music, arts. Let's bring

:05:52. > :05:59.them together. We also have other challengers, students going into

:06:00. > :06:03.university, those who want be nurses held back because the government has

:06:04. > :06:08.cancelled the nurse bursary. I was talking to a group of nurses and was

:06:09. > :06:13.the last week, they had decided to go into nursing and done other jobs,

:06:14. > :06:16.they wanted to go into nursing, brilliant, because they bring in

:06:17. > :06:21.that life experience into nursing. That is great. But, they told me

:06:22. > :06:26.they could only do it because they had got the nurse bursary to help

:06:27. > :06:30.them through the training. The Tories cancelled it, therefore there

:06:31. > :06:34.will be a shortage of nurses, therefore we will have difficulties

:06:35. > :06:39.in the NHS. A Labour government, and June nine will bring it back.

:06:40. > :06:47.CHEERING -- a Labour government on June nine

:06:48. > :06:50.will bring it back. As one who has been in Parliament and been around

:06:51. > :06:55.long enough to remember the days when going to university was a

:06:56. > :06:57.choice not something you would approach with trepidation because

:06:58. > :07:02.you wondered what would happen in the future, we have looked at it,

:07:03. > :07:06.we've gone through it very carefully and we're utterly determined to get

:07:07. > :07:09.rid of student fees so that everybody can go to university.

:07:10. > :07:18.CHEERING APPLAUSE

:07:19. > :07:22.These are things are all very important, what is also important is

:07:23. > :07:26.the way in which we approach the other issues that are facing so

:07:27. > :07:31.many. I am constantly angry and shocked by

:07:32. > :07:35.the number of people I meet in all our towns and cities who are

:07:36. > :07:39.sleeping rough, who are homeless. Those that have suffered all kinds

:07:40. > :07:45.of problems in their lives and are sleeping rough. What is it with

:07:46. > :07:51.modern Britain, modern Tory Britain, that somehow or other we just

:07:52. > :07:55.condone it, we except it is one of those things? Sorry, it is not, it

:07:56. > :08:00.is not always been like that will stop so, we will have a housing

:08:01. > :08:02.strategy that does support the homeless and make sure that everyone

:08:03. > :08:11.has... APPLAUSE

:08:12. > :08:17.In many ways, those that are both sleeping, homeless, or a symptom of

:08:18. > :08:23.the problem of a country that has not developed enough secure,

:08:24. > :08:28.lifetime tenancy council housing that has not ensured that those who

:08:29. > :08:32.wanted to buy get a chance because the deposits are too high or the

:08:33. > :08:36.income to low, and those that are living in the private rented sector

:08:37. > :08:41.in some parts of the country paid far too much, in all parts of the

:08:42. > :08:47.country are living in an insecure way and an insecure place. Next

:08:48. > :08:52.week, in banning, we will launch our comprehensive housing strategy to

:08:53. > :08:57.support the homeless to give them somewhere to live. -- next week in

:08:58. > :09:04.Birmingham. We will be building homes in five-year 's, half of which

:09:05. > :09:07.will be council housing. We want to ensure that those who want to buy

:09:08. > :09:16.will be able to. CHEERING

:09:17. > :09:19.I do not measure the success of a housing policy by the number of

:09:20. > :09:24.big-time investors that buy luxury homes in London and the south-east

:09:25. > :09:28.and keep them empty while the prices rise and sell them on about them

:09:29. > :09:31.ever being used. There was something offensive about places being kept

:09:32. > :09:40.empty well there are people with no homes. And it will be different, it

:09:41. > :09:47.will be a very different philosophy! And, it is also the world in which

:09:48. > :09:52.we live, our generation are faced with the issues of climate change,

:09:53. > :09:59.environmental destruction and sustainability, I have a very strong

:10:00. > :10:05.you on all of this, I want a government that develops an energy

:10:06. > :10:06.policy where 60% of our power is generated from renewable sources.

:10:07. > :10:10.APPLAUSE CHEERING

:10:11. > :10:16.I want to lead a government that does pay respect to the natural

:10:17. > :10:20.world and our ecosystem and does play its part in understanding and

:10:21. > :10:24.supporting global emission agreements and doing everything we

:10:25. > :10:29.can to protect this planet on which we all live.

:10:30. > :10:34.So, you will find a government that is serious about environmental

:10:35. > :10:38.policies, and politics and serious about sustainability, because we

:10:39. > :10:40.need to leave this plant in a better state for our children and

:10:41. > :10:51.grandchildren... CHEERING

:10:52. > :10:57.All of this is not romantic optimism, what it is is serious

:10:58. > :11:02.about people's lives, about our communities and serious about how we

:11:03. > :11:08.invest in our economy. That is where I started my contribution here

:11:09. > :11:13.today. It is also about what we do to convince people, between now and

:11:14. > :11:18.June the 8th, how they will vote and what's choice they will make. Since

:11:19. > :11:23.this campaign started I have now done 41 events all around the

:11:24. > :11:26.country, the numbers of people coming are enormous and if you look

:11:27. > :11:33.around yourselves at this crowd here today, we're young, where old, with

:11:34. > :11:40.black with white women, women and we are every part of our community. --

:11:41. > :11:48.we are young, we are old, we are black, we are white, we're women, we

:11:49. > :11:51.are men. Some things you can legislate to include health, to

:11:52. > :11:57.improve education, you can spend money to improve housing, you can

:11:58. > :12:03.invest to improve our economy, you can do many of those things, what we

:12:04. > :12:07.can also do is understand the crises that people go through. I'm proud of

:12:08. > :12:11.the section of our manifesto and mental health.

:12:12. > :12:15.CHEERING -- I am proud of the section of our

:12:16. > :12:19.manifesto on mental health. I spoke to a man about his own problems and

:12:20. > :12:24.his own life and what he was turned to do about it and what he was

:12:25. > :12:30.trying to do to help others. Just as much as those people that are living

:12:31. > :12:34.difficult lives, with mental health, waiting months to get support, they

:12:35. > :12:38.need help and we need a mental health service that works for them.

:12:39. > :12:49.CHEERING We also need to recognise that those

:12:50. > :12:53.that rely on pensions in the old age need the security of a triple lock.

:12:54. > :12:59.We will guarantee the triple lock for all pensioners. This is

:13:00. > :13:07.something that the Conservatives and the Liberals are not doing. We also

:13:08. > :13:14.recognise the way in which the women, have been so-so changed by

:13:15. > :13:18.this government. I am determined by the -- I'm determined by the end of

:13:19. > :13:24.the period of the Labour government, this will not be a society ridden by

:13:25. > :13:27.unnecessary poverty and underachievement, but will instead

:13:28. > :13:33.be stronger communities, stronger public service is and more efficient

:13:34. > :13:35.economy that works for all with a real living wage for all of ?10 an

:13:36. > :13:45.hour. CHEERING

:13:46. > :13:50.Nine of this -- none of this will be achieved if you are not registered

:13:51. > :13:53.to vote and don't vote. It will not be achieved if we don't ensure that

:13:54. > :13:59.we are gaining constituencies we don't hold at the moment. This place

:14:00. > :14:03.is historically beyond belief in political terms. The political

:14:04. > :14:07.battles of here go back hundreds years or more. I've read much of the

:14:08. > :14:12.history of it. I've not got time to give you all of that now.

:14:13. > :14:17.LAUGHTER In the steps of those that went before, to gain a victory, the

:14:18. > :14:23.Justice, the social justice, the decent housing, decent health and a

:14:24. > :14:29.decent society, I invite you all to get behind Velma, work with her,

:14:30. > :14:41.knock on those doors. CHEERING

:14:42. > :14:48.On June nine, we will know the good news that this area once again,

:14:49. > :14:49.returns to the Labour filed with the Labour MP to represent you.

:14:50. > :15:12.CHEERING Velma and has a copy of the

:15:13. > :15:16.manifesto, which I will hold up. -- Thelma.

:15:17. > :15:21.APPLAUSE For the many, not the few. That is

:15:22. > :15:31.our slogan, our watchword, our message. That is our inspiration. Go

:15:32. > :15:42.for it! APPLAUSE
