:00:00. > :00:00.brave enough to defy parliaments, you would be considered as bold as

:00:00. > :03:37.brass. Colleagues, friends, brothers and

:03:38. > :03:42.sisters, welcome to Event City here in Manchester, to launch the Labour

:03:43. > :03:46.Party general election 2017 campaign.

:03:47. > :03:50.What a wonderful city! What a wonderful people!

:03:51. > :04:00.APPLAUSE And, I've got to say, I'm terribly

:04:01. > :04:04.excited! About the general election! I'm

:04:05. > :04:14.terribly excited about the policies which Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party

:04:15. > :04:20.are rolling out in 2017! I'm so proud and so privileged. I

:04:21. > :04:27.was a coal miner in the coal mines of the north-east. What a fantastic

:04:28. > :04:31.job at was. Great solidarity, great camaraderie, friendship. And I

:04:32. > :04:37.really privileged to be joined national campaigns coordinator with

:04:38. > :04:41.my good friend Andrew Gwynne, and I'm also very proud to be parted

:04:42. > :04:50.Jeremy CorbynShadow Cabinet! CHEERING

:04:51. > :04:53.These... These, colleagues, are the future of

:04:54. > :04:59.a very bright new dawn with the Labour Party. Listen, this election

:05:00. > :05:07.on aids of June is extremely critical, colleagues. -- on the 8th

:05:08. > :05:13.of June. It isn't complex, it isn't in any way work at science, but it

:05:14. > :05:18.is about serving the many and not the few, as you see on some of the

:05:19. > :05:27.boards. It is about justice, it about equality and fairness across

:05:28. > :05:29.our communities. This election is about transforming our society,

:05:30. > :05:30.making people's lives are better in this country.

:05:31. > :05:45.APPLAUSE Colleagues...

:05:46. > :05:50.Colleagues, we cannot simply continue down the Welch red Tory

:05:51. > :05:57.pass, where a fuel at the very top take the spoils and the rest of the

:05:58. > :06:03.country struggles to cover their way in the world -- we cannot continue

:06:04. > :06:08.down the well-tread Tory path. An election is about the future of the

:06:09. > :06:13.many, not the few. Building a more equal society, a fairer society, a

:06:14. > :06:18.better society for all. You know, I am ashamed at times to see how this

:06:19. > :06:27.country has fallen into the state it actually is. Where it -- we are the

:06:28. > :06:31.sixth richest economy in the world. I want no lectures off anybody

:06:32. > :06:39.telling us we have not got the finances to look after those at the

:06:40. > :06:47.bottom! I don't want anybody kidding me about the wealth of this nation!

:06:48. > :06:54.In the last 12 months, the top 1000 richest people in this country

:06:55. > :07:01.increased their wealth by ?83 billion whilst one million-plus

:07:02. > :07:05.people use food banks simply to exist. No lectures on the wealth of

:07:06. > :07:10.this nation. We have seen the National Health Service brought to

:07:11. > :07:15.its knees with staff are undervalued, with the children left

:07:16. > :07:22.in corridors or, indeed, using chairs for beds. We have all seen

:07:23. > :07:31.that photograph in the Daily Mirror where we had this little baby in a

:07:32. > :07:35.critical condition in hospital lying on two patio chairs pushed together.

:07:36. > :07:41.Colleagues, it's got to change! CHEERING

:07:42. > :07:45.We've seen the schools... We've seen our schools under attack,

:07:46. > :07:52.with the least well off seeing the biggest cuts and the Prime Minister

:07:53. > :07:55.pursuing a wasteful and divisive Academy and grammar School

:07:56. > :08:01.programme. And we will not stand by and allow this to happen. We have

:08:02. > :08:07.seen the world of work change beyond recognition, with a secure job now

:08:08. > :08:13.the stuff of dreams for many people. With 1 million people on zero-hours

:08:14. > :08:21.contracts. Colleagues, we will ban zero our contracts!

:08:22. > :08:28.CHEERING -- we will ban zero-hours contracts!

:08:29. > :08:30.We have seen a rise in poverty across-the-board, with child

:08:31. > :08:39.poverty, with pensioner poverty, with fuel poverty all soaring. We

:08:40. > :08:45.hear harrowing stories about children, kids, babies, at school,

:08:46. > :08:52.putting their arms up and asking to go to the toilet and then visiting

:08:53. > :08:57.the cloakroom to get the sandwiches out of somebody else's packed lunch.

:08:58. > :09:04.We hear the harrowing stories of kids, our future, rating the

:09:05. > :09:16.refrigerators in the schools instead of being fed properly like this

:09:17. > :09:23.party promises. Cannot be allowed to continue, man. It's 2017, and the

:09:24. > :09:30.Labour Party will stand to put up with it no more, colleagues.

:09:31. > :09:37.APPLAUSE It's doesn't have to be this way!

:09:38. > :09:42.Politics is about choices, and this election offers our party a golden

:09:43. > :09:45.opportunity. It offers a chance to offer the British people a programme

:09:46. > :09:50.that will improve their lives and make our country a better place to

:09:51. > :09:56.live. The manifesto is bold, it is imaginative, it is distinct. It is a

:09:57. > :10:02.great Labour Party manifesto. It seeks to excite the young people, it

:10:03. > :10:06.seeks to protect sure start, ensure school funding is maintained, giving

:10:07. > :10:09.everybody a hot nutritious meal at school, restoring the education

:10:10. > :10:14.maintenance allowance and university bursaries. For the Older People, we

:10:15. > :10:21.ensure the pensions triple lock will be maintained, free bus passes and

:10:22. > :10:25.winter fuel will be maintained. Proper funding of the NHS and social

:10:26. > :10:32.care. And what is really important for the Older People is tackling the

:10:33. > :10:39.epidemic of loneliness. These are guarantees from Jeremy Corbyn's

:10:40. > :10:43.Labour Party. You know, we can do pet if -- better for people in work.

:10:44. > :10:49.Giving the workforce arise, a rise in the living wage to its real

:10:50. > :10:53.level, banning zero-hours contracts and insuring workers have the boys.

:10:54. > :10:57.We could do better for public services and ensure the currently

:10:58. > :11:02.undervalued staff, who are overstretched, not only get a pay

:11:03. > :11:08.rise but the resources to do their jobs properly. Whose sole Theresa

:11:09. > :11:15.May on the BBC only last week? I was amazed. She was asked, is it fair

:11:16. > :11:22.that nurses have had a 14% pay cut since 2010? And are having to use

:11:23. > :11:28.food banks? She was bonded by saying the reason nurses are using food

:11:29. > :11:32.banks is extremely compact -- she responded by saying. It's not

:11:33. > :11:35.complex, they have not got enough money to feed themselves and their

:11:36. > :11:45.families. And that must end, comrades.

:11:46. > :11:50.APPLAUSE. You know, when you want to change,

:11:51. > :11:59.when we want to change the political landscape of work, when we are

:12:00. > :12:01.looking to change politics in the best interests of everyone, when we

:12:02. > :12:09.are up against the might of the establishment who'll do whatever it

:12:10. > :12:15.takes to cling on to that unchecked powers, we'll all experience

:12:16. > :12:19.setbacks as individuals and as a party. We get knocked down but we've

:12:20. > :12:25.got to get back up again, dust ourselves down and get back into

:12:26. > :12:30.this fight for Government. We might be down at times. As I say, dust

:12:31. > :12:34.yourselves down, there's a fight to be had. You know, we've got...

:12:35. > :12:40.APPLAUSE. A great political movement. In the

:12:41. > :12:46.movement, the Labour and the Trade Union movement was born in struggle.

:12:47. > :12:52.They don't call it the struggle for nothing. And we understand the

:12:53. > :12:57.challenges here. Never forget the sacrifices that our predecessors

:12:58. > :13:01.made to deliver the institutions and freedoms we now enjoy. And remember,

:13:02. > :13:09.things can be different. It doesn't have to be this way. No-one should

:13:10. > :13:16.be held back and you need no-one behind. Colleagues, we have a duty,

:13:17. > :13:20.we have a moral duty, we have a political obligation, to communicate

:13:21. > :13:31.and articulate our messages, our policies in every town, every city,

:13:32. > :13:39.every village here in the UK we must speak to people door-to-door in

:13:40. > :13:44.whatever capacity we can. Anybody who wants to help can next the

:13:45. > :13:56.number on the screen supposed to be behind me now, see. Colleagues, I'm

:13:57. > :14:00.concluding quite simply by saying, let's mobilise a winning future for

:14:01. > :14:06.all. Let's win the hearts and minds of our people and deliver a fairer,

:14:07. > :14:08.equal Society for The many and not the few. On wards and upwards!

:14:09. > :14:21.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. Thank you. Thank you. Colleagues,

:14:22. > :14:54.thank you. Thank you so much. Colleagues, it gives me great

:14:55. > :14:59.pleasure to introduce the next speaker, Julie Hesmond-Halsh.

:15:00. > :15:00.Best-known for Corrie and more recently broad church and Happy

:15:01. > :15:16.Valley. Julie, the floor's yours. Thank you.

:15:17. > :15:23.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. Thank you. Right, well, follow that.

:15:24. > :15:31.Brilliant. Hello, everyone. Good morning. I feel incredibly humbled

:15:32. > :15:36.and honoured to be here today at the launch of the Labour Party general

:15:37. > :15:45.election campaign in this amazing city with its rich history of

:15:46. > :15:46.culture, of industry of protest, of struggle and resistance.

:15:47. > :16:02.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. When Jeremy Corbyn became leader of

:16:03. > :16:08.the party 18 months ago, I can honestly say that in my adult life I

:16:09. > :16:15.had never felt as excited and exhilarated by Party Politics.

:16:16. > :16:28.APPLAUSE. For me, it felt like a moment. A

:16:29. > :16:33.moment when the Labour Party and its core values and principles would

:16:34. > :16:37.finally be in line with my own deeply held socialist beliefs about

:16:38. > :16:51.equality, justice and peace. APPLAUSE.

:16:52. > :17:00.At the time on the campaign trail, I said I felt like I was part of a

:17:01. > :17:05.new, exciting mass movement of people who gave a toss about stuff.

:17:06. > :17:11.APPLAUSE. Well, this is our moment, this is

:17:12. > :17:20.our chance and from tomorrow we have 30 days. 30 days to be on the right

:17:21. > :17:29.side of history. 30 days to take our message into the homes and the

:17:30. > :17:31.hearts and the minds of people who been long disenfranchised with

:17:32. > :17:38.politics thinking that we are all the same. We emphatically are not.

:17:39. > :17:52.APPLAUSE. We have 30 days to create the

:17:53. > :17:57.opportunity for a fairer, better, more equal society and 30 days to

:17:58. > :18:08.save our NHS. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.

:18:09. > :18:17.Now is the time to put everything else aside, to stand up for what you

:18:18. > :18:23.believe in in your hearts and souls, to get out on to the streets, get

:18:24. > :18:32.this message across loud and clear. Let's turn this mass movement into a

:18:33. > :18:38.Government, a country, a society that truly gives a toss about stuff.

:18:39. > :19:02.Now, everyone please give a warm, riotous welcome to a man who's

:19:03. > :19:05.dedicated his life to giving a toss about other people. Jeremy Corbyn!

:19:06. > :20:16.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

:20:17. > :20:21.Thank you! Thank you, Julie, for that fantastic

:20:22. > :20:25.introduction and to you and Ian for that fantastic welcome here to

:20:26. > :20:35.Manchester today. It's fantastic we are launching our election campaign

:20:36. > :20:41.here in Manchester. Manchester shows the way in many, many things. One,

:20:42. > :20:46.it showed last Thursday, was by electing Andy Burnham as the Mayor

:20:47. > :20:51.of Greater Manchester. APPLAUSE.

:20:52. > :21:04.And can I... Andy! Andy! CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.

:21:05. > :21:13.Well done. Thank you very much. Fantastic. Give them a wave. Thanks,

:21:14. > :21:21.Andy. Andy will be a great Mayor. But just

:21:22. > :21:25.think how much more Andy will be able to achieve if he's working with

:21:26. > :21:33.a Labour Government committed to the many not the few.

:21:34. > :21:35.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. Andy, thanks, congratulations on

:21:36. > :21:40.your election and the people of Manchester are lucky to have you as

:21:41. > :21:46.their Mayor. Well done, Andy. APPLAUSE.

:21:47. > :21:52.We have four weeks, we have four weeks to take our message to the

:21:53. > :21:58.voters, to convince them, Britain can be better. It can be

:21:59. > :22:05.transformed. It doesn't have to be like this. We can transform Britain

:22:06. > :22:10.into a country that instead of being run for the rich, is one where

:22:11. > :22:18.everyone can lead richer lives. APPLAUSE.

:22:19. > :22:29.And I mean richer in every sense. Richer because all of us have

:22:30. > :22:33.potential to fulfil, family to support, interests to pursue, richer

:22:34. > :22:41.when that potential that is there in all of us is not held back. Because

:22:42. > :22:46.there is no doubt this country is being held back. If your children

:22:47. > :22:52.aren't getting the education they deserve, because the class sizes are

:22:53. > :22:58.too high, then your children are being held back. If you're a young

:22:59. > :23:03.couple or anyone trying to get a home and can't make a home because

:23:04. > :23:09.rent and house prices are too high, then you're being held back. If

:23:10. > :23:16.you've worked hard all your life but you can't pursue your dreams of your

:23:17. > :23:21.retirement because you're supporting your family well into their

:23:22. > :23:27.adulthood, then you too are being held back. But Britain is a rich

:23:28. > :23:36.country, the sixth richest country in the world. We caught a glimpse of

:23:37. > :23:43.that wealth only two days ago when Rupert Murdoch's Sunday Times

:23:44. > :23:53.published its rich list. In the last year, Britain's 1,000 richest people

:23:54. > :24:00.have seen their wealth rise by 14% to ?658 billion. That is six times

:24:01. > :24:08.the total budget of our National Health Service. Imagine the outcry

:24:09. > :24:16.if public sector workers decided to put in for a 14% pay rise. Just

:24:17. > :24:22.imagine it. But it's no surprise that the richest have got even

:24:23. > :24:28.richer after the tens of billions the Tories have handed them in tax

:24:29. > :24:35.cuts. That's what we mean when we say the system is rigged for the

:24:36. > :24:39.rich. So thanks for making that clear, Mr Murdoch.

:24:40. > :24:46.APPLAUSE. And so I don't know if Rupert

:24:47. > :24:49.Murdoch plans to give us any other help during the election campaign,

:24:50. > :24:54.but we are grateful for that information.

:24:55. > :25:01.LAUGHTER. In fact, I am more likely expecting

:25:02. > :25:10.hostility. Our challenge to a rigged system is bound to meet hostile

:25:11. > :25:16.till. Change always involves taking on vested interests and there is a

:25:17. > :25:20.real danger that the Tories' scaremongering and spin machine will

:25:21. > :25:26.make some people settle for less than they should, resign themselves

:25:27. > :25:35.to things the way they are. Underestimating just how many more

:25:36. > :25:38.burdens the Tories could impose if an omission to halt the rich getting

:25:39. > :25:42.riching is not halted. The stakes are high. We know from last week's

:25:43. > :25:49.local elections how big the challenge is. We have to convince

:25:50. > :25:56.the sceptical and undecided. They're not sure which way to turn. Who can

:25:57. > :26:03.blame them? People are alienated from politics and politicians.

:26:04. > :26:10.Our Westminster system is broken and our economy is rigged. Both are run

:26:11. > :26:17.in the interests of the few labour is under attack because we are

:26:18. > :26:22.standing up to the elite, who are determined to hijack Brexit and pay

:26:23. > :26:23.even less tax and take even more of the wealth that we all create.

:26:24. > :26:43.APPLAUSE Labour is under attack because we're

:26:44. > :26:46.standing up to the corporate interests plundering our National

:26:47. > :26:54.Health Service. How much more will be privatised if

:26:55. > :27:00.the Tories get another five years? We are drawing a line under decades

:27:01. > :27:01.of privatisation, from energy, to rail, to health, to social care.

:27:02. > :27:22.APPLAUSE That privatisation has made some

:27:23. > :27:26.people very rich indeed, but it has not delivered richer lives for the

:27:27. > :27:30.majority of our people. In the coming days, we will be

:27:31. > :27:36.setting out our plan to transform Britain with an upgraded economy run

:27:37. > :27:47.for the many, not the few. APPLAUSE

:27:48. > :27:54.Theresa May thinks she can dodge the Tory record by claiming she wants to

:27:55. > :27:59.build a fairer Britain, that she cares about working people.

:28:00. > :28:06.Does she think people will forget how the Tories have actually treated

:28:07. > :28:11.working people? It was this Tory leader who sat alongside David

:28:12. > :28:19.Cameron in Government for six years. She was with him when they

:28:20. > :28:27.introduced the bedroom tax. What is Remona Aly fairer about the bedroom

:28:28. > :28:31.tax? What was fair about racking up tuition fees? Or taking benefits

:28:32. > :28:47.away from people with disabilities? APPLAUSE

:28:48. > :28:53.Or about closing the wonderful Labour achievements, our Sure Start

:28:54. > :28:59.centres around the country. Or starving our schools of the cash

:29:00. > :29:05.they need to pay teachers and all those that work in those wonderful

:29:06. > :29:13.teams in our schools? Or opening up the National Health Service to be

:29:14. > :29:18.feasted on by profiteers? Just in case their talk of fairness doesn't

:29:19. > :29:23.wash, they have another card to play, that this election is all

:29:24. > :29:29.about Brexit and who can play at being toughest with Brussels. Labour

:29:30. > :29:32.will not allow the Tories to put their party interests ahead of the

:29:33. > :29:34.real national interests, the interests of the people of this

:29:35. > :29:47.country. APPLAUSE

:29:48. > :29:56.This election is not about Brexit itself, that issue has been settled.

:29:57. > :29:59.The question now is what sort of Brexit do we want, and what sort of

:30:00. > :30:08.country do we want Britain to be after that? Labour wants a job 's

:30:09. > :30:11.first Brexit, a Brexit that safeguards the future of Britain's

:30:12. > :30:22.vital industries. APPLAUSE

:30:23. > :30:29.A Brexit that paves the way to a genuinely fairer society, protecting

:30:30. > :30:35.human rights and an upgraded economy.

:30:36. > :30:40.Labour's plan to transform Britain will mean a big deal to upgrade the

:30:41. > :30:48.economy, new infrastructure to support the industries of the future

:30:49. > :30:54.and an investment in training and skills to equip our workforce to

:30:55. > :30:58.compete globally. It also means rebuilding our National Health

:30:59. > :30:59.Service and social care services with the funding they need.

:31:00. > :31:18.APPLAUSE It means building a million homes to

:31:19. > :31:26.rent and buy. APPLAUSE

:31:27. > :31:36.And it means tackling the scandal of our pollution, which contributes to

:31:37. > :31:37.40,000 deaths per year -- tackling the scandal of ALL: HOWZAT!

:31:38. > :31:49.Pollution. -- the scandal of air pollution. We

:31:50. > :31:51.will not be paying lip service to working people, we will introduce a

:31:52. > :31:57.comprehensive programme to strengthen rights at work. Make sure

:31:58. > :32:06.new jobs are good jobs. APPLAUSE

:32:07. > :32:16.And end the race to the bottom in pay, conditions and job security.

:32:17. > :32:22.Low pay and insecurity have spread like an epidemic under the Tories.

:32:23. > :32:30.Labour will invest in skills, jobs and take action to enforce a floor

:32:31. > :32:34.under employment standards right across-the-board so that all jobs

:32:35. > :32:40.are decent jobs, so that all workers, the true wealth creators in

:32:41. > :32:44.society, can play their part in transforming Britain and benefit

:32:45. > :33:03.fully from it. That is why we are fighting to win

:33:04. > :33:08.this election, so we can transform Britain for the many and not the

:33:09. > :33:09.few. When we win, the British people win.

:33:10. > :33:18.APPLAUSE The nurse... The people win. The

:33:19. > :33:24.nurse, the teacher, the small trader, the carer, the builder, the

:33:25. > :33:29.office worker. They all win. Labour is offering a real choice, a real

:33:30. > :33:33.alternative to the rigged system holding us back, and to the

:33:34. > :33:37.Conservatives, who are running our country down. The economy is still

:33:38. > :33:41.rigged in favour of the rich and powerful. When Labour wins, there

:33:42. > :33:45.will be a reckoning for those who thought they could get away with

:33:46. > :33:50.acid stripping our industry, crushing our economy through their
