0:00:17 > 0:00:20Northern Ireland is a fabulous place.
0:00:20 > 0:00:23I was brought up here, I studied here,
0:00:23 > 0:00:25I've worked here in other capacities.
0:00:25 > 0:00:29I believe in Northern Ireland and I want it to continue to do well.
0:00:29 > 0:00:32I want to create a strong, safe,
0:00:32 > 0:00:34stable Northern Ireland for the future.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37I love that photograph of Daddy there. It's a great one, isn't it?
0:00:37 > 0:00:38That is a good one.
0:00:38 > 0:00:43'My mum was a housewife and looked after all of us.'
0:00:43 > 0:00:47My father was a full-time police officer, a part-time farmer.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50And, er...we had a very happy childhood,
0:00:50 > 0:00:52living in rural Northern Ireland.
0:00:52 > 0:00:57Um, well, when the bomb actually went off, I just closed my eyes.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59I didn't know what was going on.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01I closed my eyes and when I opened them again,
0:01:01 > 0:01:03there was silence for about two seconds
0:01:03 > 0:01:06and then everybody started to scream.
0:01:06 > 0:01:09And I stood up and I said, "Don't panic, don't panic."
0:01:09 > 0:01:11One morning we had got on the bus.
0:01:11 > 0:01:15We'd travelled a short distance when the bomb exploded.
0:01:15 > 0:01:18I think it's up to the whole bus to change it.
0:01:18 > 0:01:21In fact, it's up to the whole of the young people of Northern Ireland
0:01:21 > 0:01:23to change the way, and what is happening,
0:01:23 > 0:01:26to turn against the men of violence.
0:01:26 > 0:01:29We are in a much better place today than we were at that time,
0:01:29 > 0:01:33and that's something that spurs me on to work for a better future.
0:01:33 > 0:01:35I have lived through the past.
0:01:35 > 0:01:38I know what happened in the '70s and '80s.
0:01:38 > 0:01:40Therefore, I cannot, in all consciousness,
0:01:40 > 0:01:42allow them to rewrite the past.
0:01:45 > 0:01:47I loved primary school.
0:01:47 > 0:01:51I worked hard in secondary school and was able, as a result of that,
0:01:51 > 0:01:56to go on to third-level education at Queen's University in Belfast.
0:01:56 > 0:02:00We want to see every child having the opportunity to do what I did
0:02:00 > 0:02:04and that's to go to school, to work hard and to succeed.
0:02:04 > 0:02:06It really motivates me and inspires me
0:02:06 > 0:02:09when I see the opportunity to bring more jobs to Northern Ireland
0:02:09 > 0:02:12and that's hopefully what we're going to do.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14'One of the proudest things is the fact that we've been able
0:02:14 > 0:02:16'to create all of those new jobs,
0:02:16 > 0:02:20'so that people do not have to leave Northern Ireland.'
0:02:20 > 0:02:23To know that I was going to be appointed as First Minister
0:02:23 > 0:02:26was an incredibly humbling experience.
0:02:26 > 0:02:28- Let me say...- How are you?
0:02:28 > 0:02:31..I'm delighted to see a woman with a bit of sense.
0:02:31 > 0:02:33LAUGHTER
0:02:33 > 0:02:36One of the things that makes me feel most fulfilled
0:02:36 > 0:02:39is the fact that people say that I'm one of them.
0:02:39 > 0:02:43"Arlene, you're one of us," is a phrase I've heard quite frequently
0:02:43 > 0:02:45and I am one of them.
0:02:45 > 0:02:48I'm so proud that I come from Northern Ireland.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52I have a five-point plan for the future.
0:02:52 > 0:02:55It's around better infrastructure for the whole of Northern Ireland,
0:02:55 > 0:02:57it's about creating more and better jobs,
0:02:57 > 0:03:01having a very good health service available for everybody,
0:03:01 > 0:03:03free at the point of need,
0:03:03 > 0:03:06having a strong education system
0:03:06 > 0:03:08across all of the different sectors
0:03:08 > 0:03:11and that no sector is favoured over any other sector.
0:03:11 > 0:03:14We as a party have made sure that household taxes
0:03:14 > 0:03:17have remained low in Northern Ireland
0:03:17 > 0:03:20and we want to ensure that that continues to be the case.
0:03:20 > 0:03:23I can only achieve these goals with your support.
0:03:23 > 0:03:27So if you share my vision, then back my DUP candidates
0:03:27 > 0:03:31across Northern Ireland, so I can make this vision a reality.
