0:00:18 > 0:00:21There are so many things that are really great about being a parent,

0:00:21 > 0:00:23there are so many things that are absolutely

0:00:23 > 0:00:24terrifying about being a parent.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27Being with Georgia and spending time with her,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30it's just amazing to see the speed that people learn,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32the speed that people develop.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35I think our older daughter, she's a real extrovert.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38I can see her doing something that is very expressive,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40where she's maybe a little bit in the spotlight.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Katrina definitely wants to be an actress.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45She's very focused on that.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47Alistair, it kind of changes a wee bit.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Loves his Lego. Gran says he's going to be an engineer.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51Being a dad is special.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54I want my kids to get the best chance

0:00:54 > 0:00:56to be all that they can be,

0:00:56 > 0:01:01but, as parents, we need a helping hand to allow our kids to succeed,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03and that's why I want Scotland

0:01:03 > 0:01:07to have the best education system in the world.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Derek and I both work full time so, obviously,

0:01:09 > 0:01:12that brings its challenges in terms of arranging childcare,

0:01:12 > 0:01:13so we're very fortunate -

0:01:13 > 0:01:16we have a very good nursery that both of our children go to.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19I think it's really important that we keep investing in education.

0:01:19 > 0:01:20You hear it as a throwaway line

0:01:20 > 0:01:23but you really are investing in the future and the next generation.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25I think everyone can remember

0:01:25 > 0:01:26at least one great teacher that they had,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28that really opened their eyes in some way,

0:01:28 > 0:01:31and I certainly want that same experience for our kids,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33and if we support teachers across the board,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36I think that becomes much more likely.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38We're giving them charge of our child,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41and they look after our child as we hope we would.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44I think you always have to determine what your priorities are.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Education is one of those priorities

0:01:46 > 0:01:49and I think it, therefore, is appropriate that we should be

0:01:49 > 0:01:51asking people to make an additional contribution.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53The bottom line is,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55if we don't keep improving the standard of education,

0:01:55 > 0:01:56children will suffer.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59We can't expect teachers to do their best

0:01:59 > 0:02:03unless we support education properly.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07We want to invest a penny on income tax for education -

0:02:07 > 0:02:13a small investment for a whopping big return of ?475 million.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16We can invest in a people premium

0:02:16 > 0:02:19to give kids extra support at school.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21We can expand nursery education

0:02:21 > 0:02:25to make sure kids get that vital early education.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29And we can also boost the number of places in colleges

0:02:29 > 0:02:32so that everybody that wants to study can get

0:02:32 > 0:02:33the course that they need.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37That will have a transformational effect on education in Scotland

0:02:37 > 0:02:40and put us right back up there with the best.

0:02:40 > 0:02:47A penny for education would deliver an investment of ?475 million.

0:02:47 > 0:02:53A penny for education will help get Scotland fit for the future.
