0:00:13 > 0:00:16of the Democratic Unionist Party placed their trust in me

0:00:16 > 0:00:18to be their party leader.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20That night, I cited a quote from CS Lewis,

0:00:20 > 0:00:24which can be found on his portrait in Stormont.

0:00:24 > 0:00:29It said, "There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind."

0:00:29 > 0:00:32The Northern Ireland of today is infinitely better than

0:00:32 > 0:00:34the one I grew up in.

0:00:34 > 0:00:38But we're still on a journey to reach our full potential.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41I want to achieve that potential

0:00:41 > 0:00:47and to make Northern Ireland the very best place to live and work and bring up a family.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48At the Assembly elections,

0:00:48 > 0:00:52I set out our five-point plan for Northern Ireland.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55To create more jobs and increase incomes,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57to protect family budgets,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00prioritise spending on health,

0:01:00 > 0:01:04to raise standards in education for everyone

0:01:04 > 0:01:07and to invest in infrastructure for the future.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10The people of Northern Ireland have given us

0:01:10 > 0:01:14a huge mandate and I thank them for it.

0:01:14 > 0:01:19Alongside my DUP colleagues, we are working to deliver for you.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23With ministerial colleagues in education, economy,

0:01:23 > 0:01:27agriculture and communities, we are in the Northern Ireland Executive

0:01:27 > 0:01:30working to deliver that better future for everyone.

0:01:31 > 0:01:36In June, the people of the United Kingdom took the historic decision

0:01:36 > 0:01:38to leave the European Union.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41And the DUP is committed to making a success of Brexit.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45We will be working alongside others to ensure we get

0:01:45 > 0:01:48the best possible deal for the people of Northern Ireland.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51And we want to maximise the opportunities

0:01:51 > 0:01:54whilst addressing the challenges.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58The DUP played a very key role during the EU referendum

0:01:58 > 0:02:03and we continue to ensure that Northern Ireland's voice and interests are heard at Westminster.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05And we have the strong, united team,

0:02:05 > 0:02:09with elected representatives in councils, at Stormont,

0:02:09 > 0:02:14at Westminster and in Brussels, to ensure that Northern Ireland's

0:02:14 > 0:02:18interests, YOUR interests, are advanced at this crucial time.

0:02:18 > 0:02:24With your support, we will continue to be the party for Northern Ireland.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28This weekend is my first party conference as leader.

0:02:28 > 0:02:32I will address a party that is growing and looking forward

0:02:32 > 0:02:36with confidence. The DUP is now the voice of Unionism.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40Many have joined with us over this last 12 months.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43I look forward to many more joining with us,

0:02:43 > 0:02:48as we deliver a stronger and more prosperous Northern Ireland.
