5:36:10 > 5:36:13Hello. I hope you're well. I really do.

5:36:13 > 5:36:17Because if you're not, then chances are the NHS won't be able to

5:36:17 > 5:36:20look after you as well as it should. And that's wrong.

5:36:20 > 5:36:24Because the Labour Party created the NHS 70 years ago on

5:36:24 > 5:36:29the founding principles of it being comprehensive, universal and free.

5:36:30 > 5:36:35The NHS was created to care for us but now the NHS needs our care.

5:36:37 > 5:36:39Today there are almost four million people

5:36:39 > 5:36:41on waiting lists for treatment.

5:36:41 > 5:36:44One in four of us have to wait a week to see a GP,

5:36:44 > 5:36:48and every day thousands of us have to wait over four hours in A&E.

5:36:49 > 5:36:54Our hospitals are understaffed and the staff who are so utterly

5:36:54 > 5:36:59dedicated to our wellbeing are overworked and woefully underpaid.

5:36:59 > 5:37:05Last year in England alone the NHS was £2.45 billion in deficit,

5:37:05 > 5:37:09while the Tory government wasted £3 billion

5:37:09 > 5:37:12in their top-down reorganisation.

5:37:12 > 5:37:15And that's why when politicians argued about whether we should be

5:37:15 > 5:37:17in the EU or not

5:37:17 > 5:37:20they used something that they knew we all care about.

5:37:20 > 5:37:25They used the NHS, the NHS that is desperately in need of funding.

5:37:25 > 5:37:28So, yeah, they stood in front of their big bus

5:37:28 > 5:37:32and promised £350 million a week.

5:37:32 > 5:37:34Money they said we'd save.

5:37:34 > 5:37:37Money they promised would save our NHS.

5:37:39 > 5:37:40And that's brilliant,

5:37:40 > 5:37:44because we all like promises, but no-one likes it when they're broken.

5:37:44 > 5:37:49Do you really believe a Conservative government will honour that promise?

5:37:49 > 5:37:52It's hard to. Why?

5:37:52 > 5:37:55Because in their last budget there wasn't a penny of extra funding

5:37:55 > 5:37:57for the NHS, or for social care.

5:37:57 > 5:37:59No.

5:37:59 > 5:38:02Not a single penny.

5:38:02 > 5:38:06Still believe the promise of £350 million a week?

5:38:06 > 5:38:07Well, look at it this way.

5:38:07 > 5:38:11Right now the Conservatives are actually planning £22 billion,

5:38:11 > 5:38:14yes, £22 billion worth of what they like to call

5:38:14 > 5:38:19efficiency savings, but the rest of us would call them cuts.

5:38:19 > 5:38:23Cuts to nurse training, cuts and more closures of A&E departments,

5:38:23 > 5:38:28maternity units and other services, and cuts to social care.

5:38:28 > 5:38:29Cuts that will continue to prove

5:38:29 > 5:38:33the Conservatives' reckless neglect of our NHS.

5:38:34 > 5:38:37So now do you believe they'll honour the promise of that £350 million?

5:38:37 > 5:38:40No, neither do I.

5:38:41 > 5:38:46The founding principles of the NHS are being broken, and I believe

5:38:46 > 5:38:51that the promise of £350 million a week to save it will also be broken.

5:38:51 > 5:38:55I wish I could trust a Conservative government to support the NHS,

5:38:55 > 5:38:56but I can't.

5:38:56 > 5:38:59That's why the Labour Party is demanding a commitment,

5:38:59 > 5:39:02a clear and firm commitment from the Conservative government

5:39:02 > 5:39:06that they will stop their constant neglect of the NHS

5:39:06 > 5:39:09and provide the level of funding that it so desperately needs.

5:39:09 > 5:39:13And whether the Conservatives are prepared to or not,

5:39:13 > 5:39:15the Labour Party is.

5:39:15 > 5:39:19Because Labour created the NHS to care for us all,

5:39:19 > 5:39:22and now it's time that we all cared for the NHS.

5:39:22 > 5:39:24The NHS needs extra investment,

5:39:24 > 5:39:27so Labour will make sure that it gets it.

5:39:27 > 5:39:29And, yes, that's a promise.
