:00:13. > :00:18.Conference, as your business convener of five years, welcome to
:00:19. > :00:30.the 82nd national conferencd of the Scottish National Party. And of
:00:31. > :00:35.course, welcome to the wonddrful city of Glasgow. The first thing I
:00:36. > :00:41.would like to do is for you to give a warm welcome to your fant`stic
:00:42. > :00:43.candidates for the deputy ldadership of the party. Please welcomd your
:00:44. > :01:10.candidates. I think we are all agreed that there
:01:11. > :01:16.is a high calibre of candid`tes and the announcement will come shortly.
:01:17. > :01:19.But let's just reflect on the fact that this is our first partx
:01:20. > :01:33.conference since we won the Scottish Parliament elections in May 201 . Of
:01:34. > :01:38.course, where our party leader, Nicola Sturgeon, secured her
:01:39. > :01:49.personal mandate to become First Minister Scotland. The delegates,
:01:50. > :01:55.let me tell you, as your business convener, that this is the biggest
:01:56. > :02:08.ever conference in the history of the SNP. And it's not just the
:02:09. > :02:11.biggest party political conference in Scotland. It is the biggdst party
:02:12. > :02:32.political conference in the UK. 3000 delegates, 500 media, 020
:02:33. > :02:38.fringe events and 35 debates that we will hold over the next few days,
:02:39. > :02:46.and still they come in. And of course, we have embarked on further
:02:47. > :02:54.delegate empowerment with ED ballot -- de e-ballot, because that is the
:02:55. > :03:06.SNP, a Democratic and inclusive party for Scotland, an incltsive and
:03:07. > :03:11.democratic country. And as H look at all the delegates still comhng under
:03:12. > :03:21.various tiers in this auditorium, the capacity of 3000, I think it
:03:22. > :03:25.must have been designed espdcially. But as we fill this hole, I want you
:03:26. > :03:29.to now welcome your national secretary, who will give yot the
:03:30. > :03:43.announcement of the results for the deputy leadership of the party.
:03:44. > :03:47.Please welcome Patrick Gradx, MP. Thank you, conference. I can
:03:48. > :03:52.announce the results of the ballot for deputy leader of the Scottish
:03:53. > :03:57.National Party. I will annotnce the results in percentage terms and then
:03:58. > :04:03.a full breakdown of the votds were republished on the party website
:04:04. > :04:06.later today. In the first round the percentage received by each
:04:07. > :04:22.candidate was as follows. Chris Macca Laney, 3.38%. Alan Smhth,
:04:23. > :04:32.18.6%. Tommy Sheppard, 25.53%. Angus Robertson, 52.5%. I therefore
:04:33. > :04:38.declare that Angus Robertson, MP, has been elected as deputy leader of
:04:39. > :05:03.the Scottish National Party. Well, how many of you turned up to
:05:04. > :05:13.the hustings? Quite a lot of you. Well, thank you to all of you. On
:05:14. > :05:15.the of us, we spent weeks and weeks travelling from tainted Peebles
:05:16. > :05:27.from Aberdeenshire to the south west of the country. Around 30 htstings,
:05:28. > :05:34.packed. Lots of ideas and qtestions. I have been absolutely bowldd over
:05:35. > :05:37.to be elected as the deputy leader of the Scottish National Party, so
:05:38. > :05:41.thank you to all of you who voted for me, and thank you to all of you
:05:42. > :05:47.who voted for the other candidates. I think it is a model electhon
:05:48. > :05:50.process and all of our membdrs should be proud about the
:05:51. > :06:01.constructive way in which wd hold our internal debates. Thank you very
:06:02. > :06:09.much. My campaign themes in this election were about leadership,
:06:10. > :06:13.grassroots and independence. I think it makes perfect sense for the
:06:14. > :06:17.leadership team of the SNP to be made up of our leader in thd
:06:18. > :06:20.Scottish Government and Parliament, Nicola Sturgeon, how First Linister,
:06:21. > :06:28.and the leader of the SNP at Westminster. It makes sense that our
:06:29. > :06:33.leadership team reflects Scotland. Nicola is a fantastic representative
:06:34. > :06:37.of this great city in centr`l Scotland, myself, a parliamdntarian
:06:38. > :06:41.living and working in a part of rural Scotland. We are the Scottish
:06:42. > :06:46.National Party. The clue is in the name. We represent the whold of the
:06:47. > :06:49.country and everybody who lhves here, regardless of where wd come
:06:50. > :07:00.from, and we should never forget that. We are the most effective
:07:01. > :07:06.political party in this country Our strength comes from our members our
:07:07. > :07:09.branches, our local grassroots campaigning and our partnership with
:07:10. > :07:14.councillors and parliamentarians. We need to make sure our organhsation,
:07:15. > :07:18.our policy-making and campahgn techniques keep pace with the rapid
:07:19. > :07:25.growth in membership. We nedd to empower everybody, every ond of our
:07:26. > :07:30.members who wants to play a part. We have big challenges ahead and big
:07:31. > :07:33.opportunities. We are very close to independence, and we must start
:07:34. > :07:45.campaigning right now to persuade people who didn't vote yes hn 2 14.
:07:46. > :07:47.Securing 45% support in the independence referendum was a great
:07:48. > :07:54.achievement, but we must re`ch out to the 55% who voted no in 2014 I
:07:55. > :07:59.believe the SNP deputy leaddr has a big job to make this happen, and I
:08:00. > :08:03.will work with Nicola Sturgdon to make this happen. I will also work
:08:04. > :08:07.with my fellow candidates, who came up with some great ideas. All of us
:08:08. > :08:12.stood on distinctive platforms. I undertook to help deliver on all of
:08:13. > :08:17.the best proposals. To Tommx Sheppard, who focused on thd upgrade
:08:18. > :08:21.that we all want, there is luch that can be delivered. To Alan Slith who
:08:22. > :08:25.wants to protect our place hn Europe, we must work togethdr on
:08:26. > :08:29.that. And to Chris, who highlighted the importance of our counchllors
:08:30. > :08:39.and the forthcoming local government elections, we have to work together
:08:40. > :08:44.to get that right. Last but not least, you cannot run for office
:08:45. > :08:48.like this without the support of some key people, and I would like to
:08:49. > :08:52.make special mention is to Nathan Sparling, Pete Dems and my wife
:08:53. > :08:56.Jennifer, who put many hours, many miles and many social media updates
:08:57. > :09:03.and many hustings behind thdm. Do you, the members of the SNP, thank
:09:04. > :09:09.you for doing me a tremendots honour and electing as deputy leaddr. I
:09:10. > :09:12.look forward to working for you with you and with Nicola Sttrgeon
:09:13. > :09:15.for our country and everybody who lives here to deliver the
:09:16. > :09:23.independence that we all sedk. Thank you very much.
:09:24. > :10:08.Conference, welcome. Welcomd to the dear green place, the great city of
:10:09. > :10:16.Glasgow, a city that said yds in 2014, a city where every single
:10:17. > :10:18.citizen is now represented hn the Scottish parliament by an SNP
:10:19. > :10:32.constituency MSP. Let me begin today by warmlx
:10:33. > :10:43.congratulating our new deputy leader, Angus Robertson. Conference,
:10:44. > :10:49.we had four first-class candidates to choose from. Indeed, we had more
:10:50. > :10:58.quality in our race for deptty leader than Labour managed hn its
:10:59. > :11:03.election for leader. So let me, on your behalf, thank Tommy, Alan and
:11:04. > :11:08.Chris for bringing their talents, their energy and their ideas to the
:11:09. > :11:19.contest. Each of you has a lassive contribution to make to the future
:11:20. > :11:24.of our party. And Angus, yot will be an outstanding deputy leader. I am
:11:25. > :11:29.delighted to have you by my side and I look forward to working whth you
:11:30. > :11:41.as we lead our party and our country to even greater success.
